Love Week!

Valentine's Day is just a little over two weeks away so until then we have tons of lovey dovey projects lined up for you to ogle over. This week, we're featuring layouts, cards, and more using AC's new Love line.

Love logoCindy Tobey and Jennifer Gallacher have some oh so fabulous layouts and cards to kick off the week.

Valentine by Cindy TobeySupplies: Blossom Road Paper (35061) - Abode, Adieu Paper (35022) - Letterbox, Falling Paper (35172) - Love, Many Splendored Paper (35180) - Love, Can't Help Falling Paper (35177) - Love, Take A Chance Paper (35182) - Love, City Park (61733) - Mixtape, Love Heartstrings (89384) - Ribbon, Love Tags (85111) - Bits, Love Buttons (85509) - Elements, Gate Journaling (42184) - Remarks, Classics Dedication (82303) – Mementos, Love Tenderness (78034) - Details, Eternal Love (72005) - Delights, Love Dimensional Stickers (42164) - Remarks, Sweet Bermuda (53090) - Thickers

Cindy says, "I'm trying to include more pages of my husband and me in our scrapbooks, so once or twice a year we stage a photo shoot. We set up our camera and take the photos ourselves with our remote. I love this photo of Allan and me, and the Love collection was perfect for showcasing it!"

AC CindyT-Love-card-475Supplies: Love Journaling Cards (64001) - JustWrite, Blossom Road Paper (35061) - Abode, Falling Paper (35172) - Love, Many Splendored Paper (35180) - Love, Can't Help Falling Paper (35177) - Love, City Park (61733) - Mixtape, Love Heartstrings (89384) - Ribbon, Love Tags (85111) - Bits, Love Buttons (85509) - Elements

"I started with a card from the Love JustWrite Journaling Cards and added papers and embellies on top. I put this card together before cleaning up after creating my 'Valentine' layout. Everything that I needed was already out and ready to use. The JustWrite cards are a really fun and easy way to make greeting cards. I love that you have a beautiful pattern on the front and back but the inside is white - making any writing you might want to include easy to read."

Sweetheart by Jennifer Gallacher

Supplies: 12x12 Cardstock Cranberry (71024) - AC Cardstock, 12x12 Cardstock Robin's Egg (71063) - AC Cardstock, 12x12 Cardstock Kraft (71464) - AC Cardstock, Many Splendored Paper (35180) - Love, 4x6 Cards (64001) - JustWrite, One and Only Stamps (59108) - Love, Sweet Tomato (53091) - Thickers, Mini Pearl Brads (85508) - Love, Variety Buttons (85509) - Love, Reinforced Decorative Tags (85511) - Bits, Eternal (72005) - Delights, Irresistable (42166) - Remarks, Ruban (58233) - Ribbon, Other supplies: Sewing machine, twine

For the background I used the doily heart stamp to create a background. I also stamped an upside down heart border at the bottom of the page. I love incorporating stamps in subtle, yet creative ways."

Happy-Valentine's-Day-CardSupplies: 12x12 Cardstock White (71081) - AC Cardstock, 4x6 Cards (64001) - JustWrite, One and Only Stamps (59108) - Love, Reinforced Decorative Tags (85511) - Bits, Irresistable (42166) - Remarks, Ruban (58233) - Ribbon, Mini Pearl Brads (85508) - Love, Eternal (72005) - Delights, Other supplies: Sewing machine, tulle

You're already in the creative zone so why not save yourself some time and energy and make two fabulous projects!"

Supplies: 12x12 Kraft Cardstock (71464) - AC Cardstock, The Classics Bookplates (64007) - JustWrite, The Classics Bookmarks (64006) - JustWrite, The Classics Buttons (85523) - Elements, City Park Duck (89291) - Premium Ribbon, Paperback (53132) - Thickers

"Though my year in review album is still in progress for 2010 (I'm about halfway through), I thought it would be fun to do a quick layout with my top 24 photo picks from the year. Those photos that give me that warm fuzzy feeling each time I look at them... Instead of taking forever to pick, I did a super quick scroll through the photos from each month and grabbed two. Whatever hit me in just opening up the folder. That made this layout come together quickly and easily, and left our boys peering over my shoulder at some of their favorite memories from the year!"

Love Card by Michelle Lanning

Supplies: Mysterious Charlotte Paper (935267) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, 12x12 White Cardstock (71081) - AC Cardstock, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Journaling Tickets (64005) - JustWrite, Hyacinth (78041) - Details, Blackberry (59203) - Clear Stamps, Black (59500) - Pigment Ink

Michelle says, "For the base of this card I used a piece of the Dear Lizzy Enchanted Mysterious Charlotte paper. I then layered the JustWrite Journaling Tickets for dimension. The tickets are really easy to cut up and use as you like, I love that! As a finishing touch I added the butterfly Detail."

"For this layout I wanted to use the Journaling Bookplates and Bookmarks as the base of my layout.  I arranged the pieces on cardstock until I was pleased with their placement and then put a little adhesive to keep them in place.  I then sewed the perimeter of the layout as well as most of the bookplates and bookmarks."

JustWrite Journaling Cards by Maggie

If you're looking for bright, happy, fun, and easy cards to make, look no further! Maggie Holmes has created a pair of cards that will knock your socks off:

Cards by Maggie HolmesSupplies: Secret Garden Paper (35294) - The Classics, Oliver Twist Paper (35296) - The Classics, Plastic Rose Brads (85522) - Elements, Metal Rose Brads (85513) - Elements, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Assorted Brads (85521) - Elements, Love Plastic Buttons (85509) - Elements, City Park Plastic Buttons (85518) - Elements, Love Decorative Tags (85111) - Bits, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Journaling Tickets (64005) - JustWrite, Love Journaling Cards (64001) - JustWrite, The Classics Journaling Cards (64006) - JustWrite, Eternal (72005) - Delights, Mini Jewel Brads (85280) - Elements, Soft Black (6113) - Memory Marker

Maggie shares, "It seems like I am always in need of a generic card to use for a birthday, thank you, or just to tell a friend I am thinking of them. And as a scrapbooker you would think that I would always use handmade cards... But sadly I admit that I typically end up using the store bought ones because I tend to not plan ahead in this area. Oops! So I decided that the best solution would be to plan ahead and start trying to make cards in advance, when I have the time. They are quick and easy to make and they are also a great way to use up your scraps after you have created a layout and all of your supplies are still out. I made both of these cards generic with a basic color scheme. I also left a spot on the front of both of them blank so that I could write in whatever message I need when it comes time to use the card. Now I am excited to say that the next two cards I send will be handmade and full of love! :)"

That's a great idea to make cards ahead of time and then add the sentiment later! Thanks for the tip Maggie - lovely cards!

"I love the JustWrite Journaling Cards. You can use them as is for a quick note or you can dress them up a bit with different embellishments. For this card, I used one journaling card for the base and another one as a frame. Since the blue frame was bigger than the card, I pleated the sides. I finished it by adding a metal butterfly Memento and rub on sentiment."

Waleska- web picHere are some fun facts you may not have known about Waleska:

How did you get started scrapbooking?
My hubby accidentally got me started. After we got married and moved all the way across the country (away from family and friends) he was trying to help me find some friends. He knew a girl at work who did scrapbooking and asked me if I liked it. At the moment, I had no idea what it was so I did a google search and loved what I found. I was immediately hooked!

What would you say your scrapbooking “style” is?
Simple and colorful.

What is your favorite technique?
Stamping and punching and lately I'm loving my die cut machine for fun backgrounds and titles.

When do you find time to scrap?
In between chores, work, and taking care of the kids. I'm lucky to have my own scrappy place where I have all my things easily accessible. I do a little bit here and there whenever I have a few minutes to myself.

On average, how long does it take you to complete a project?
Truth be told, I'm very slow. I usually don't finish a project in one sitting so it can take a whole day (or more!) to finish one layout.

What is your favorite thing about American Crafts?
I've always been a big AC fan (I have proof :). My favorite thing is the variety of products - all you can possibly need for scrapbooking and crafting and how versatile they all are. The usual bright and fun colors are so very me!

Three cheers for Waleska!

Valentine's Day Decor Tutorial by Kelly Purkey

Today Kelly Purkey shows us how to make cute'n'easy Valentine's Day decor:

Hearts1

Supplies: Classics Bookmarks (64006) - JustWrite

1. Gather your supplies. I used the new Bookmarks JustWrite Journaling Cards from The Classics line, heart punches, and some white sewing string.

2. Cut the patterned papers into strips for easier punching.

Hearts3

3. Punch out lots of hearts from the patterned paper strips.

Hearts4

4. Line up rows of hearts then tape a piece of white sewing string to the back of each row of hearts.

Hearts5Hearts6

5. Hang them where you want them and enjoy!

Hearts2

Kelly says, "With Valentine's Day on the horizon, I used the gorgeous patterns from The Classics line to create a fun and easy window decoration. I strung together some punched hearts to spruce up my bedroom window. The JustWrite Journaling Cards were perfect for this project because they're thicker weighted paper and have white on the backside, so that way the patterns could still be bold and visible with the light coming in behind them. I put a variety of number of hearts on each string so there could be different lengths hanging in the window. It was a simple way to decorate my plain white window for the holiday!"

Jenny says, "I am very smitten with the Dear Lizzy Enchanted line! The JustWrite Journaling Tickets are a versatile embellishment and compliment this line so perfectly. On the layout I used the 4x6 size ticket to create the back drop for my photo. I then trimmed down another ticket to tuck behind it. On the card I used another 4x6 ticket to create the entire card. I backed it with cardstock to create the base. The JustWrites are so detailed you won't need much more!"

Find You Be You by Robyn Werlich

Supplies: Dear Lizzy Enchanted Journaling Tickets (64005) - JustWrite, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Small Blackberry (59203) - Clear Stamps, Silver Medium Glitter Brads (85355) - Elements, Silver Mini Brads (8473) - Elements, 12x12 White Cardstock (71259) - AC Cardstock, 12x12 Storm Cardstock (71472) - AC Cardstock, Sparkling Silver (53102) - Thickers, Charming Collin Paper (35263) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Wonderful Alice Paper (35247) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Cricket (59509) - Pigment Ink, Leaf Embossing Powder Opaque Finish (2714) - Zing!, Other: Sewing machine and white thread

Robyn says, "When I first saw these JustWrite Journaling Cards and tickets, my heart fluttered a bit! I love the graphic feel of them, the colors... everything was just spot on for me! My sweet neice, Brooklyn, is in that awkward pre-teen stage and I wanted to make her a card about being okay with who she really is. As I sat down to work on this card, the saying 'Find You, Be You' on the Blackberry stamp set totally stood out to me. It was the perfect sentiment for this card. I simply pulled three of the tickets from the JustWrite pack and embellished them on the side of the card with die cut flowers and brads, the stamped saying, and a glitter 'b' monogram. I also stamped the flower from the same stamp set and embossed it with Leaf embossing powder to add something more in that empty space! Kind of a modge-podge of things and sewing - but I hope that she'll like it! :)"

I'm sure she will! Great start to the week - thanks Jenny and Robyn!

American Crafts’ four new AC Trimmers feature spring-action tracks and premium blades that guarantee smooth cuts, accuracy and precision. Here’s more information about each one:

90703_AC_Trimmer_12xCombo

- The 12” Rotary Trimmer is portable, lightweight, and sturdy. You get smooth, straight cuts every time. It’s perfect for a scrap room, but sports a handle so you can take it anywhere. It includes two replaceable straight-edge blades.

Our new Knock Outs Border Punches create crisp and detailed patterned borders and save you money! The less expensive, interchangeable punches and coordinating snap-in wing guides allow for reusability and compact storage of the punch base.

The brilliant sparkle of Pow! Micro Glitter Paper never rubs off the sheet. We’re talking zero mess. The thin nature of the paper allows it to be easily manipulated and smoothly run through die-cutting machines.

Guest Designer of the Week: Kinsey Wilson

Guest Designer of the Week

Kinsey Wilson has some major talent up her sleeve! She created a couple of cards, a handful of layouts, and a sketchbook - all featuring Mementos:

Butterfly card 01

Butterfly card supplies: 12x12 Cardstock Rocky Road (71466) - AC Cardstock, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Duchess (89389) - Ribbon, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Prince (82302) - Mementos, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Hyacinth (78041) - Details; Other supplies: DMC embroidery floss, Fiskars corner rounder

"Butterflies of some sort almost always make their way into my projects so cards are no exception… I wanted to keep this one pretty simple so I opted to use three items only (which is sooo hard for me to do). I just stitched the ribbon down, removed the brad from the butterfly, and adhered it into place and then added the memento key and added a few stitches to that as well."

Hi card 01

Hi card supplies: 12x12 Cardstock Mustard (71036) - AC Cardstock, Woodland Park Paper (35237) - City Park, Skyline Park Paper (35235) - City Park, Emma Paper (35300) - The Classics, Fancy Black (53114) - Thickers, Festive (82300) - Mementos, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Piccolo (42178) - Remarks, City Park Decorative Tags (77244) - Bits, City Park Plastic Buttons (85518) - Elements; Other supplies: DMC embroidery floss, Martha Stewart seal paper punch

"I added some dimension to this one by ‘deconstructing’ a couple of the Dear Lizzy Remarks (I used the base of one and the butterfly from another) and I ‘repurposed’ one of the Festive Mementos (it had a holiday sentiment on it) by using a paper punched seal to cover it. I love when you can take something themed and make it work for anything!"

Sketchbook 05Sketchbook 03Sketchbook 04

Sketchbook supplies: Woodland Park Paper (35237) - City Park, Emma Paper (35300) - The Classics, Dedication (82303) - Mementos, Piccolo (42178) - Remarks, Hyacinth (78041) - Details; Other supplies: copy paper, chipboard sheet, Bind-It-All machine and wire

"My little one is constantly asking me if she can have a sheet of printer paper to draw pictures on… What she means is 30 sheets, lol. So, I made her a mini sketch book full of copy paper to doodle, jot, and draw to her heart’s content. I just cut the papers in half so the book measures 5.5 x 8.5 inches and fits perfectly in her backpack."

Found 01

Found layout supplies: 12x12 Cardstock Kraft (71464) - AC Cardstock, 12x12 Cardstock Aqua (71058) - AC Cardstock, Courtland Gardens Paper (35232) - City Park, Skyline Park Paper (35235) - City Park, Whimsy Wolf Paper (35270) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Fashionable Peony Paper (35266) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Little Women Paper (35303) - The Classics, Treasure Island Paper (35312) - The Classics, Festive (82300) - Mementos, Sweet Aqua (53090) - Thickers; Other supplies: 5/8 inch circle punch, DMC embroidery floss

"I love doing monochromatic layouts, especially when black and white photos are involved. Since I used a basketball photo here, I thought circles would be fitting. I used my circle punch and cut several circles from each paper, adhered them in rows in random order, and then stitched them down with a darker thread color."

Joy in color 01Joy in color 02

She Takes Joy in Every Color layout supplies: 12x12 Cardstock White (71801) - AC Cardstock, Courtland Gardens Paper (35232) - City Park, Whimsy Wolf Paper (35270) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Treasure Island Paper (35312) - The Classics, Secret Garden Paper (35294) - The Classics, Fancy Black (53114) - Thickers, Festive (82300) - Mementos, Piccolo (42178) - Remarks, City Park Plastic Buttons (85518) - Elements; Other supplies: DMC embroidery floss, Martha Stewart 3 in 1 butterfly punch

"This is one of my all-time favorite pics of my little girl doing her favorite thing: painting on canvas. I love that the colors in the papers I used are pretty darn close to the colors that she chose for her paint palate and the flowers look so similar to her painted sun… perfection. I used one of the flowers to make my own sewing template for this one by tracing the flower onto a transparency and then pierced the holes and stitched away."

Sweet face 01

This Sweet Face layout supplies: 12x12 Cardstock Kraft (71464) - AC Cardstock, Little Women Paper (35303) - The Classics, Secret Garden Paper (35294) - The Classics, Treasure Island Paper (35312) - The Classics, Emma Paper (35300) - The Classics, Graceful Swan Paper (35248) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Fashionable Peony Paper (35266) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Charming (82301) - Mementos, Dedication (82303) - Mementos, Prince (82302) - Mementos, Delight White (43058) - Thickers, Memory Marker Brown Sugar (6123) - Pen; Other supplies: DMC embroidery floss

"I love this photo of Aspen (my cute little niece). She’s so sweet natured and a little shy so I really wanted the colors to mimic that and be quiet and soft. I used the Mementos frames as well as handcut pieces of patterned paper to create an outer frame for the photo."

Stellar work Kinsey! Let's find out a little bit more about this awesome scrapper:

Headshot kinsey

How did you get started scrapbooking?
When I was a kiddo, I remember loving my baby book, reading about what I did, seeing photos of me in my mom’s belly, seeing her handwritten answers to all the questions in that old tattered book. So when I found out I was preggo with my little one, it was just something I knew I needed to do. I started out clueless about ‘dedicated scrapbooking supplies’ and used construction paper, tons of super cheesy fonts, and handcut bits and pieces. And then I found out about scrapbooking stores and it was on… bigtime.

What would you say your scrapbooking “style” is?
I’d say my style is clean, structured, and graphic with some small details thrown in the mix.

What is your favorite technique?
Handstitching. I love it. Lots of people think I’m crazy pants for putting so much time into it but it’s therapeutic for me. I love the texture that it adds without being super bulky and in your face. It's subtle. Love that.

When do you find time to scrap?
I usually do the majority of my scrapbooking while the girl is at school and hubby is at work. I love that my kiddo is really creative too so there are several times per week (after school) when we create together and give Sam (my hubby) a break from the girlies so he can watch his guy shows, hehehe. The balance thing can be hard at times but we make it work :)

On average, how long does it take you to complete a project?
Hmmm, I’d say average 4 hours. I do a lot of handstitching and it takes time. I break it up though and work on it when I have little windows of time.

What is your favorite thing about American Crafts?
I have so many favorite things about AC! I love the color combos and fonts/graphics the most. I love that AC’s collections are so easy to mix and match with others and the patterns are always on point. And don’t even get me started on Thickers! I’m obsessed with Thickers :)

Make sure to check out Kinsey's blog for tons more creative inspiration!

Mementos Necklace Tutorial by Cindy Tobey

Cindy Tobey has come up with such a unique project using Mementos!

CindyT-Mementos-7

Supplies: Classics Accents & Phrases (43389) – MiniMarks, Dedication (82303) – Mementos, Hardcover (53137) – Thickers; Other supplies:  Super Glue, Thick Acrylic Sheet or Transparency, Clear Gloss Medium, Jump Ring, Beads, Necklace Chain

Cindy says, "When I received The Classics Mementos I was immediately drawn to the oval frame and knew I wanted to turn it into a pendant for a necklace. It took me awhile to narrow down what I wanted to put in the frame – there are just so many possibilities! Once settling on what I wanted inside the frame the project went fairly quickly."

Step 1 - Drill a small hole into the top of the frame.

CindyT-Mementos-1

Step 2 - Lay clear acrylic over the frame and trace the shape to cut out. Make sure it is bigger than the frame opening since you will need to glue it to the back of the frame.

CindyT-Mementos-2

Step 3 - Cut out the shape and if the edges are rough, file them smooth.

CindyT-Mementos-3

Step 4 - Add a rub on to the clear sheet.

CindyT-Mementos-4

Step 5 - Adhere the clear sheet to the back of the frame with super glue or other strong adhesive.

CindyT-Mementos-5

Step 6 - Cover the top of the clear sheet with clear gloss medium. Add a chipboard letter to the wet medium and let dry. Drying may take a while – I let mine dry overnight.

CindyT-Mementos-6

Step 7 - Add a jump ring and some beads to the frame and then add the frame to a matching chain.

CindyT-Mementos-7

Your necklace is ready to wear!

Mementos Week!

What's another one of my favorite new American Crafts embellishments? Mementos!

261

Mementos
Mementos are self-adhesive metal embellishments that add glamour to any project without over-the-top flash. The design team seriously rocked these embellishments and every day is going to be a treat! Starting with Caroline Ikeji and Poki Nobeno.

The Best Test by Caroline Ikeji
Supplies: Secret Garden Paper (35294) - The Classics, Three Musketeers Paper (35295) - The Classics, Monte Cristo Paper (35305) - The Classics, Dorian Gray Paper (35306) - The Classics, Charlotte's Web Paper (35307) - The Classics, Wonderland Paper (35310) - The Classics, Hardcover Brown Sugar (53137) - Thickers, The Classics Buttons (85523) - Elements, Foreword (43389) - Minimarks Sheets, Reinforced Decorative Tags (77246) - Bits, Dedication (82303) - Mementos, The Classics Medium Brads (85526) - Elements, Hyacinth (78041) - Details, Piccolo (42178) - Remarks Dimensional, Enchanted Fabric Brads (85520) - Elements, Enchanted Plastic Rose Brads (85522) - Elements, Swing (72003) - Delights

Caroline says, "I loved these frame Mementos from The Classics collection and I knew I wanted to use some of them to 'frame' my favorite patterns from the collection - sort of like pieces of art framed up on a wall! I cut and framed three bits of paper then added my photos to the opposite sides of the frame. I added embellishments to slightly overlap the frames."

Makeawish
Supplies: Sophisticated Jack Paper (35260) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Fashionable Peony Paper (35266) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Elated Iris Paper (35257) - Dear Lizzy Enchanted, Journaling Tickets (64005) - Just Write, Fantastic Limeade (53109) - Thickers, Prince (82303) - Mementos, Heartstrings (89384) - Premium Ribbon

"I thought of wishes and dreams when I saw these Mementos keys, so I went with that theme for the sentiment of my card. I cut two JustWrite tickets and half and put them back together on the middle of the card, with the key separating them, to write out my sentiment. I tied a tiny piece of ribbon onto the key to add a little bit of flair."

It's a Happy Kind of Day by Poki Nobemo
Supplies: Festival (82300) - Mementos, Mountain Park Paper (35231) - City Park, Waterfront Park Paper (35229) - City Park, Balboa Park Paper (35236) - City Park, Golden Gate Park Paper (35244) - City Park, High Line Park Paper (35230) - City Park, Greenbelt Gardens Paper (35241) - City Park, Caramel (58510) - Ribbon, Fantastic White (53110) - Thickers, Sunny Banana (53121) - Thickers, Frisbee (78038) - Details, City Park Rimmed Tags (77244) - Bits, Mixed Assortment Dear Lizzy Enchanted (85521) - Elements, Slide (72004) - Delight, Rose Brads Dear Lizzy Christmas (85513) - Elements, City Park Duck (89391) - Ribbon, Stream (61733) - Mixtape, Gazebo (42176) - Remarks Dimensional Stickers

Poki mixed her Mementos with the City Park line and created a happy and weightless feel with bright colors and lots of embellishments and photos. Perfection!

What I Love Most About You by Melanie Louette

Supplies: 8 ½ x 11 Cardstock White (71259) - AC Cardstock, Love Reinforced Decorative Tags (85511) - Bits, Can’t Get Enough Paper (35181) - Love, True (43381) - Minimarks, Heartstrings (89384) - Ribbon, Tomato Sweet (53091) - Thickers, Strip Glue Runner (61712) - This to That, Dimensional Dots (61709) - This to That, Black Fine (62001) - Slick Writer, Black .03 (62311) - Precision Pen; Other: hemp twine, Tia Bennett ‘Joined at the Hip’ digital stitching

Melanie says, "I couldn’t help but want to dig into this gorgeous Valentine’s line a bit early, so I decided to do a layout about my oldest son. He’s changing so fast these days and especially hates having his photo taken, so this rare shot of him smiling (pre-braces) was begging to be scrapped. I’ve been having a love affair with tags lately, and decided to use the ‘Bits’ tags as a frame for my photo and then in turn, use them as spaces for my journaling. I pop dotted the tag that says ‘My heart is bursting at the seams’ and added the plaid ribbon to highlight it and make it stand out from the others.

I punched a tiny hole on either side of the larger reinforced hole to string the ribbon through and create the banner."

"The Love Bits were perfect to create a Valentine's Day coupon card for my girls. I used MiniMarks rub ons and Thickers to create tags that they can trade in, like reading a book, playing a game, or my favorite: hugs! I created a small pocket where these fit in perfectly and I think they'll love it! I will probably make one for my husband too!"

"I wanted to use the Dear Lizzy Christmas Bits as more of a winter theme rather than holiday theme. I cut three of them in half to use as strips behind the title of the card. Then I took two complete tags and adhered them together to make one large tag for the sentiment. The fabric brad was perfect for an "O".  I'm not normally a card maker, but this one might actually get sent out to someone this winter!"

"I have been hanging onto so many photos from our amazing trip to Cost Rica last spring and when I received the City Park papers and tags I knew just how to use them! They coordinate perfectly with a city theme, but also a vacation/beach theme too. My downfall of taking so many photos on a vacation is what to do with said photos from the vacation and I'm so happy I have them (most of them anyway!) in a mini album now!"

Here are some fun facts about Christa:

How did you get started scrapbooking?
Way back in 1998 I was a newlywed and new to military life too. I was invited to a Creative Memories party and really enjoyed getting those photos and memories down. I started scrapping more after my two girls were born and the hundreds of pictures poured in! I got more serious about four years ago and am loving every bit of it.

What would you say your scrapbooking “style” is?
This is always so hard for me to answer and I never know how to describe it! I like clean, simple designs and I normally add a bit of layering and whimsy with some butterflies, jewels, and chipboard.

What is your favorite technique?
Oh, I’m also one of the most un-technique-y people I know too! If it’s considered a technique, I love, love, love border punches. I think they add great layering, texture, and great finishing touches too. I love using chipboard in lots of different places: for titles, for embellishment, and even journaling.

When do you find time to scrap?
I love my children, but so happy to have some “free” time during the week now that my youngest is in kindergarten. I have two days off from work each week and I spend a little time doing projects then since I’m by myself. I also do lots of scrapping at night after they’re in bed. My husband and I watch tv and I scrap!

On average, how long does it take you to complete a project?
Oh gosh, much more than I care to admit! My projects look so simple and I’m amazed sometimes at how long it takes. Probably 1-2 hours on average for each project. I’m always so excited when something actually comes together in no time!

What is your favorite thing about American Crafts?
Um, everything?!  My first love is hands down Thickers. I love them all, hoard them all, and use them everywhere! I also love the chipboard too. So many different designs, colors, and shapes!

Here's a link to Christa's blog so you can find out more about her and see her sweet inspiration!

Bits Cupcake Topper Tutorial with Jennifer Gallacher

Who doesn't love a yummy cupcake? Especially when they're topped with fun homemade creations! Jennifer Gallacher has a great tutorial for using Bits to make festive cupcake toppers - check it out:

Cupake-topper-5
Jennifer says, "I love the Bits embellishments. There are so many uses for these cute tags! I decided to create cupcake toppers for mini cupcakes. You can easily do this with the circular metal-rimmed tags, but I wanted to use the images in the Bits. By punching out the images from the tags, I created a darling flower center for my food picks. These came together quickly and easily!"

Cupcake-topper-1
Supplies: Grosgrain (58106) – Ribbon, City Park Reinforced Decorative Tags (77244) – Bits, Swing (72003) – Delights; Other supplies: toothpicks, 1” circle punch, tape, cupcakes

And here's how you make 'em:

1. Use a 1” circle punch to punch out your favorite parts of the Bits tags.Cupcake-topper-2

2. Tape a toothpick to the back of some Delights.

Cupcake-topper-3

3. Adhere the punched circles on the buttons of each Delight. This will give the punched circles a raised look. Add a knot of ribbon to each toothpick.

4. Place the toothpicks in cupcakes and serve.

Easy as pie - or rather - cupcakes :)

What's one of my favorite new embellishments from American Crafts? BITS!

They're decorative tags, some are metal-rimmed, some have decorative edges, some are short, some are long, and all are super cute.

This week our talented design team is going to show you how to take your Bits to the next level! Starting with Amy Tan and Shannon Zickel:

Just Because by Amy Tan
Supplies: The Classics Decorative Tags (77246) - Bits, A Wrinkle in Time Paper (35301) - The Classics, Dorian Gray Paper (35306) - The Classics, Neutrals Cardstock Pack (71288) - AC Cardstock, Foreword (43389) - MiniMarks

Amy says, "I just love the colors and print of the Dorian Gray paper and had to use it. I found some random happy photos that seemed to compliment the paper along with the Bits. Bits are versatile to use and fun to punch and add rub ons to for added detail!"

Thanks for the Bits tips Amy - definitely gonna have to try that out! Next up, here's Shannon's layout and card:

Swing by Shannon Zickel
Supplies: 12x12 Cardstock White (71050) – AC Cardstock, Shoe Box Natural (42765) – Thickers, Piccolo (42178) – Remarks Dimensional Stickers,  City Park Decorative Tags (77244) – Bits, Grosgrain 3/8" (58049) – Ribbon, City Park Trail (42183) – Remarks, Precision Pen .03, Black (62311) – Pens, Solid Glue Runner (61711) - This to That

Shannon says, "The City Park Collection is one of my all-time favorites and was just perfect for these pictures of Eli on the swing. The City Park Bits made this layout come together in a matter of minutes.  Don't be afraid to cut your Bits as I did on the text one - it was originally designed with the tag on the top, but it was too large for what I needed and blocked parts of the photo I didn't want it to, but with a simple swipe of the paper cutter it became the perfect final touch to the page!"
Love Card
Supplies: Love 4x6" Cards & Envelopes (64001) – JustWrite, Love Heartstrings (89384) – Ribbon, Endless (42164) – Remarks Dimensional Stickers,  Love Decorative Tags (85511) – Bits, Solid Glue Runner (61711) - This to That

Shannon shares, "Are you ready for a confession? I really don't like making cards... I know, not something you expect to hear from a paper junkie! So when I make a card I want it to be quick and easy and with Bits you can achieve just that! Did you know two Bits tied together with a bow are almost the exact width of one of the JustWrite Journaling Cards?! Choose one Bit with a sentiment on it and then add a dimensional sticker to the other Bit and voila - a perfect card in seconds flat!"
We've got more Bits inspiration tomorrow - plus a giveaway! See ya then!

This mini will keep our memories fresh through the long Colorado winter!"

Let's get to know Nancy a little better shall we?

069
How did you get started scrapbooking?
The summer before I got married, I made a scrapbook with real scraps — movie tickets, dried flowers, etc. Then as a wedding gift my cousin Linda gave me a huge box of scrapbook supplies. When I saw the stickers and paper, I was like, “There’s STUFF for scrapbooking? Sign me up!”

What would you say your scrapbooking “style” is?
I’m shooting for colorful, organic, and composed. I love bright colors and honest journaling.

What is your favorite technique?
Machine sewing, no contest! I can’t make a layout without it!

When do you find time to scrap?
I’m lucky enough to have scrapbooking as my day job, but I love it so much I’ve been known to sneak it in on evenings and weekends, too. :)

On average, how long does it take you to complete a project?
I used to need 4-5 hours per page, and it was driving me nuts! Now I plan my pages out completely before I start cutting or gluing and I’ve gotten a lot faster. I’d say I can make one page in an hour, depending on how crazy I get with the sewing machine or paint.

What is your favorite thing about American Crafts?
I love how clean and graphic the designs are from American Crafts. The style is crisp and fresh and you can always tell that there’s a lot of thought put into each product, like clever names and cute packaging.

Make sure to check out Nancy's blog - she's always got fun and crafty inspiration!

Joyful Layout and Bliss Card by Pooi (Plus a Giveaway!)

Chin Pooi created a fabulous layout and card showcasing Details:

Joyful Layout and Blissful Card by Chin Pooi
Joyful Layout Supplies: Rock Creek Gardens Paper (35225) – City Park,  Riverfront Park Paper (35233) – City Park, Courtland Gardens Paper (35232) – City Park, Madame O. Ghoul Paper (35192) – Boo!,  City Park Plastic Buttons (85528) – Elements,  Dear Lizzy Enchanted Decorative Tape (61734) – Mixtape, Berry Marigold (53036) - Thickers, Tenderness (78034) – Details, Lace (78025) – Details, Frisbee (78038) - This to That 3D Foam Tabs (61710) - Adhesives

Pooi says, “The multiple photos of my son, Sean having his 5th birthday party, were full of colourful cupcakes and balloons. I was inspired by the balloons to use lots and lots of circles as the overall design on the stripes background. The cut-out circles from the patterned paper and also the bright multi-coloured plastic buttons added a lot of vibrancy to the layout. Mixtape was used to enhance a border around the layout. I really love the embellishments – Details that added the texture, the dimensions and height for this layout. The Details are absolutely stunning and I also used one of the felt flowers to replace the letter ‘O’ for my title. Seriously feeling so cheerful and joyful looking at this layout!”

Blissful Card Supplies: Rock Creek Gardens Paper (35225) – City Park, Courtland Gardens Paper (35232) – City Park, Sir Charlie Paper (35256) – Dear Lizzy Enchanted,  City Park Plastic Buttons (85528) – Elements, Pounce Phrases (43378) – MiniMarks, Frisbee (78038) – Details, This to That 3D Foam Tabs (61710) - Adhesives

Pooi says, “I enjoyed playing with the circles and arranged them in rows of rainbow colours to make a blissful card. Some circles were popped up by the 3D foam tabs and looked pretty stunning especially with the big felt sun Detail as the main attraction. Next time maybe you can also try using circles and all those details in your layout or cards. They’re so much fun!”

And now for the giveaway! For a chance to win one of each of our current Details (not all are pictured here), leave one comment by Saturday January 8th at 10am PST and I'll randomly choose one person to win them shortly thereafter:

Frame with Details Tutorial by Suzy

Suzy Plantamura has a great tutorial with a unique way to use Details to share with you today. Check this out:  Altered Frame by Suzy Plantamura

Supplies: City Park Decorative Tape (61733) - Mixtape, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Decorative Tape (61734) - Mixtape, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Piccolo (42178) - Remarks Dimensional Stickers, Love Tenderness (78034) - Details, Dear Lizzy Christmas Glitter Buttons (85515) - Elements; Other Supplies: Wood Frame, White Paint, White Glitter, Sealant (PPA), Glue Dots

This is Suzy Plantamura and I hope you are all having a very happy New Year! I made this frame for my daughter’s eleven year old birthday picture. I wanted it to be colorful so it matched her room which is all bright pink, green and turquoise. I was so happy with how it turned out and it only took about an hour to make. Here are the step by step instructions:

Step 1: Paint a wood frame with two coats of white paint (don’t worry if it is covered completely as most of the white will not show).

Details step one_1
Step 2: After it is dry, attach a strip of Mixtape along the left vertical side of the frame and then overlap it with a strip of a different color of Mixtape horizontally along the bottom edge; leave enough Mixtape to wrap around the backside of the frame on all ends.

Details step two_1
Step 3: Continue to add more pieces of Mixtape along both edges overlapping horizontally and vertically as you go with different colors.

Details step three_1
Step 4: To add a thinner strip of Mixtape, lay a piece along your cutter and use an x-acto knife in the groove of your cutter to cut it into two pieces; it is tacky, so it easily comes off the cutter once it is cut.

Details step four_1
Step 5: After all the pieces of Mixtape are in place, wrap the ends around the frame so they don’t show and adhere with tape on the backside.

Details step five_1
Step 6: Mix a sealant (I used Perfect Paper Adhesive in Matte) with some white glitter.

Details step six_1
Step 7: Apply a thick coat to the frame to seal and add a nice shimmer effect; let dry.  Details step seven_1
Step 8: Take apart two pink felt flowers from the Details Tenderness set; separate each piece and remove all glue residue and pop dots.Details step eight_1
Step 9: Attach each flower piece to the top edge of the frame overlapping pieces so the petals stand up. Attach buttons to the center of each flower.Details step nine_1
Step 10: Add some butterflies punched from patterned paper and then you're all done!

Details frame for january blog post small_1 This frame would look so cute in a little girl's room or in your own scrap space. Happy crafting!

Leslie shares,"Details are some of my FAVORITE of American Crafts embellishments. What I love most about them is the ability to mix & match them for a different look. I also love how they are so easy to use, not to mention an ADORABLE addition to any project you are working on. They make the PERFECT finishing touch on any layout, card or project. I simply added them to the front of my card for the perfect “hi” embellishment and to my layout to enhance this favorite photo of my kiddos."

Cute Details, cute layout and card, cute subjects in the photo :)
