Screen Shot 2011-07-29 at 2.10.48 PM We'll start having giveaways with our newest releases soon! Thanks for your participation!

To wrap up Families week, Maggie Holmes and Mahlin Wiggur have each created a card and a layout:

Maggie Supplies: Cool Cat Paper (35389)  - Peachy Keen, Mother Always Says Paper (35388) - Peachy Keen, Baby Doll Paper (35384) - Peachy Keen, Thing of Beauty Paper (35370) - Peachy Keen, No Sweat Paper (35378) - Peachy Keen, Jitter Paper (35373) - Peachy Keen, Good Golly Gee Paper (35375) - Peachy Keen, Honey Fellow (53174) - Thickers, Dear Borders (53176) - Thickers, Plastic Rose Brads (85539) - Elements, Reinforced Decorative Tags (85543) - Bits, Bow Tie (89398) - Ribbon, Gee Golly (42192) - Remarks, Charcoal (6113) - Memory Markers, Love Set Cards & Envelopes (64001) - Just Write

_DSC8950 Maggie says, "Since I am a new mother again - we just had our 5th baby at the end of May - I have been feeling especially grateful for our little (well it's actually quite big now) family. Even though it is a lot to manage at times and there are definitely challenges, I do feel incredibly blessed each and every day to be a mother. I've had these photos since last fall and thought it would be perfect to create a layout with them to document these sentiments. The card came together quickly and easily using the scraps that were still out on my desk. I punched various size circles and wrapped them over the top folded part of the card, then stitched them in place. It's a fun way to use up those scraps!"

Mahlin Mahlinjulylodetail Supplies: 12x12 White Cardstock (71081) - AC Cardstock, The Classics Bookplates (64007) - Just Write, Enchanted 4x6 Journaling Tickets (64005) - Just Write, Samba Paper (35442) – Margarita, Gossamer Paper (35409) - Hello Sunshine, Lakeside Park Paper (35224) - City Park, Tamale Paper (35434) - Margarita, Mojito Paper (35423) - Margarita, Dandy Paper (35397) – Hello Sunshine, Skyline Park Paper (35235) - City Park,  Havana Paper (35435) - Margarita, Hyacinth (78041) - Details, Peachy Keen Borders (53176) – Thickers, Shoebox White (42882) - Thickers

Mahlin shares, "It's a touchy subject for me, family, since I recently separated from my DH, so this is a layout about how family always is family, even if it's a bit different than before... I found a new love amongst the Just Write cards. They're so usable in many ways, the super cute tickets and the journaling spots which can be used as frames!"
Mahlinjulycard Supplies: 12x12 White Cardstock (71081) - AC Cardstock, City Park Journaling Cards (64003) – Just Write, Sunshine (72012) - Delights, Made in the Shade Paper (35379) - Peachy Keen, Fancy Free Paper (35377) - Peachy Keen

"This card is meant for a newborn and his/her family. My thought is to use Thickers and spell the new little family member's name in the speech bubble!"

We hope you've enjoyed Families week and get to spend time with yours this weekend! Ta-ta for now!

Amy Tangerine Videos and GIVEAWAY!

This afternoon, we wanted to share a few of the best CHA videos and posts we’ve found of the new Amy Tangerine line from around the web.

First, let’s talk videos.

If you didn’t see this last week, make sure you take a look. It’s cute, fun and gives a close-up of one of the most popular products at CHA—the Amy Tangerine Mini Book.

In this video, Amy shows her line to Jamie Sorenson of Two Peas in a Bucket.

Kraftin Kate gives you an exclusive close-up look at the papers and some embellishments in the collection here.

On Scraptime, Amy talks about her adhesive-backed fabric paper and shows how she used it to line the inside of a suitcase.

And last, but not least, Amy shares the Mini Book she created during CHA with Blue Moon Scrapbooking here.

Want to see more? We know you do!

Shimelle posted some great pictures of the Amy Tangerine collection here.

And Scrapbook & Cards Today is giving away the Amy Tangerine collection PLUS an autographed Amy Tangerine tote! They posted a few sneak peeks of our other collections, too.

Guest Designer of the Week: Mandy Koeppen

Guest Designer of the Week
I'm excited to introduce our Guest Designer of the Week: Mandy Koeppen!

MandyKoeppen Her family-themed layouts, cards, and projects are going to leave you with a smile on your face and have you rushing to your scrapspace to get working!

AC2pager Supplies: White (71081) - Cardstock, Good Golly (70068) - Flair, Frisbee (78038) - Details, Journaling Cards (64010) - JustWrite, Brilliance Paper (35415) - Hello Sunshine, Iguana Melon (53193) - Thickers, Empanada Paper (35429) - Margarita, Long Variety Tags (85530) - Bits

"I love all those bright colors and fun patterns of the Margarita line so what better way to use those products then to document all my family's sweet summer time happenings that we will miss when the snow starts flying here in Michigan in just a few short months again."

ACsistersloveSupplies: White (71081) - Cardstock, Easy Peasy Paper (35382) - Peachy Keen, Gee Whiz Paper (35383) - Peachy Keen, Bliss Paper (35395) - Hello Sunshine, Fluttery Paper (35417) - Hello Sunshine, Good Golly (70068) - Flair, Forest Vanilla (53162) - Thickers

"My silly girls are always bickering back and forth but all that gets set aside if something happens or someone else messes with one of them the other is always there. It's crazy how they can bicker one minute then be so loving and besties the next. The title says it all - it truly is a love of a sister."

ACGUESTLAYOUT3 Supplies: Good Golly (70068) - Flair, Forest Vanilla (53162) - Thickers, Easy Peasy Paper (35382) - Peachy Keen, Neat-O Paper (35392) - Peachy Keen, Jitter Paper (35373) - Peachy Keen, Stumpy Meadow Paper (35347) - Campy Trails, Snake River Paper (35352) - Campy Trails, Oak Point Paper (35364) - Campy Trails, Gossamer Paper (35409) - Hello Sunshine, Dusk Paper (58673) - Hello Sunshine, Fluttery Paper (35417) - Hello Sunshine, Empanda Paper (35429) - Margarita, Frisbee (78038) - Details, Super Swell (42193) - Remarks

"This layout came together super quick and easy. I decided to use the 2 in the together rather than changing the title all together after running out of t's. I really like creating layouts using little bits and scraps that I have leftover after completing projects and this is one of those layouts. I didn't realize 'til my husband read the journaling then looked at the layout again that the bumps down in the bottom and the hot air balloon at the top actually go great with the journaling about life's journey and its ups and downs."
ACbirthdaycards Supplies: White (71081) - Cardstock, Suzie Strawberry Paper (35330) - Confetti, Holly Hazelnut Paper (35323) - Confetti, Peppermint Penny Paper (35343) - Confetti, Brilliance Paper (35415) - Hello Sunshine, Sunnyside (72010) - Delights, Sunrise Geranium (53178) - Thickers, Iguana Melon (53193) - Thickers

"One look at the Confetti line it screams birthday cupcakes and that’s how the idea of these cards came about. The cute Delights used with the strips at the bottom of the pattern paper remind me of sparkling candles. Simple easy and fun!"

ACthankyoucard Supplies: Samba Paper (35442) - Margarita, Ned (43130) - Minimarks

"Love this paper - it screams fussy cut and layer up to me. Add a rub on from my stash and you have a really quick card to put a smile on someone's face."

ACbrushhyourteeth2 Supplies: White (71081) - Cardstock, Antonio (42196) - Remarks, Stumpy Meadow Paper (35347) - Campy Trails, Havana Paper (35435) - Margarita

"'Brush your teeth!' I don't know about you, but in my house I repeat that phrase every day at least 2-3 times. I'm pretty sure my kids think summer break means a break from all things, even brushing your teeth. So to remind them I made this cute little wall art with the awesome Antonio Remarks. I love the bright colors and they work great in a bathroom that belongs to two little girls. Now every time they are in the bathroom they are reminded to scrub their pearly whites."

ACtagframe Supplies: Decorative Tags (85553) - Bits, Margarita Diamond Brads (85549) - Elements

"Framed tag art is a simple way to add some fun and bright colors to our sitting room this summer."

Here's a little questionnaire to get to know Mandy even better:

How did you get started scrapbooking?
I was given a pad of 12x12 paper at my first child's baby shower. I made a little mini album filled with Teagan's first photos and that was it. I picked scrapbooking up again after Mav was born but with two children under two I was way too busy so I gave it up again. Then in 2006 within months of Avery's birth Mav was diagnosed with Autism and I needed something for me, something to get those emotions out and be able to deal with all the things I was going through - a sort of therapy without having to go lay on some couch to talk to a total stranger. So I turned to scrapbooking again, this time a whole new spark was lit in me. Since then I have had this passion for documenting our lives and stories in this fun and creative way called scrapbooking!

What would you say your scrapbooking “style” is?
My style? This a question I always stumble with because I'm a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants kinda gal. When I create I just go with the flow. If it comes to mind and I can make it work I'm good with that. I always focus on my photos and add paper and bits that fit so today I'm going to say I'm a 'Modern Paper Piecing Mix'. No there is no definition for that in the dictionary and google probably can't find it out there on the web either but if you could find it I'm pretty sure you'd say, "Yep, that's totally her style".

What is your favorite technique?
To be honest I don't consider myself super techniquey. I wish I were but I'm not. I'm not sure this is really a technique but I love to use a mix of photo sizes on my layouts as you can see in my work posted here.

When do you find time to scrap?
Ha this one made me giggle a bit because scrap time varies especially during the summer with all three kiddos home. I always seem to find time whether it's during the kid's movie time, when my hubs gets home, on the weekends, or when my night owl habits kick in I always find some time to scrap. Sometimes the kiddos come create with me or they watch a movie on the laptop while I create.

On average, how long does it take you to complete a project?
I usually can get a layout done in 30 minutes to an hour. After an hour if it's just not working I move on. Altered stuff and mini albums usually take 30 minutes to a few hours. I usually have something in mind when I go to create. Most of the time that is never how it comes out but it's a good place to start.

What is your favorite thing about American Crafts?
I must admit I have loved American Crafts for awhile and have a nice stash of AC items. I love the products, patterns, colors, and quality AC products have year after year. As for a favorite product American Crafts I have so many so I'll narrow it down to my top three: Precision Pens (the best), Flair (so cool), and Thickers are AWESOME I absolutely love love love the Lullaby thickers it's my number #1 fav font!

Embossed Handprints Wall Hanging Tutorial

Jen Jockisch is always creating fun projects to share with you and today is no exception! We're going to learn how to make this embossed handprints wall hanging with step-by-step photos:

JenSupplies: 12x12 Cardstock White (71081) - AC Cardstock, Aqua Opaque Finish (27143) - Zing!, Grapefruit Opaque Finish (27135) - Zing!, Hardcover Aqautic (53138) - Thickers, Sunshine (72012) - Delights

Jen says, "I created a fun and simple project you can easily recreate and I love that you can make it with your kids. I will warn you that if you have a baby, it's a little more difficult to get a good image, but our 4 year old Ayla had a blast making this and it's something that I will treasure for years to come."

What you need:
Foil (to catch messes made by kiddos who think embossing powder is fun to play in!)
American Crafts cardstock
Embossing Ink Pad
American Crafts Zing!
Wet wipes (for cleaning messy hands)
Heat tool
Thickers
American Crafts Delights
Frame with or without glass

Step 1 - Set some foil down and place a sheet of 12x12 cardstock on top. Have your inkpad and Zing close by.
Julyblog1 Step 2 - Ink your kiddos hands. My 4 year old Ayla wanted to do hers herself, but I helped and made sure her hand was really well covered in ink.
Julyblog2Step 3 - Place hand on cardstock. I pressed down on top to make sure we got a really good image.
Julyblog3Step 4 - Sprinkle on Zing! embossing powder and shake off the excess back into the jar.

Step 5 - Emboss with a heat tool.

Step 6 - Cut the cardstock to fit your frame (alternately, you can start with the correct size cardstock).

Step 7 - Add Thickers with the names and ages of the participants.
Julyblog4Step 8 - Add a Delights dimensional sticker to the bottom right corner.

Step 9 - Place the cardstock in the frame and adhere with tape to the matboard. I took the glass out because of the dimension of the Delights embellishment.
Julyblog5 Now your children's handprints will be preserved forever in a cute and adorable frame!

Thanks for stopping by! The weekly giveaway is coming up in a few hours - see you then!

Families Week!

Families logo What do you scrapbook about? Daily adventures? Place you've been? Your favorite things? Your family? This week we're going to focus on that last topic - families! What better way to remember the times (good and bad - we tell it all!) you've had with those you love most than with the hobby known as scrapbooking? Leslie Ashe and Melanie Louette, both moms to darling kids, kick off the week with a pair of layouts and cards:

LeslieSupplies: 12x12 Cardstock Vanilla Damask (71159) – AC Cardstock, 12x12 Cardstock Vanilla (71502) – AC Cardstock, Stumpy Meadow Paper (35347) – Campy Trails, Caribou Creek Paper (35351) – Campy Trails, Cherry Chip Paper (35336) – Confetti, Glee Paper (35402) – Hello Sunshine, Many Splendored Paper (35180) – Love, Aquatic Hardcover (53138) – Thickers, Chestnut Poolside (53075) – Thickers, Aquatic Paperback (53132) – Thickers, The Classics Medium Brads (85525) – Elements, Confetti Assorted Buttons (85530) – Elements, Love Buttons (85509) – Elements, Just Dandy (82304) – Mementos, Peachy Keen Reinforced Tags (85543) – Bits, Hyacinth (78041) – Details, Caramel (58510) – Ribbon, Black (62600) – Stamp Marker

Leslie remarks, "Clustering is one of my favorite things to do when it comes to embellishments. By mixing different elements, I think it gives a playful, fun and youthful effect. I used bright and colorful clusters that remind me of my sweet kids."

Homecard2Supplies: 12x12 Cardstock Banana (71502) – AC Cardstock, 12x12 Cardstock Kraft (71464) – AC Cardstock, Gee Whiz Paper (35283) – Peachy Keen, Hamlet Paper (35302) – The Classics, Chestnut Nutmeg (43045) – Thickers, The Classics Buttons (85523) – Elements, Love Buttons (85509) – Elements, Hello Sunshine Fabric Brads (85544) – Elements, Caramel (58510) – Ribbon, Heartstrings (89384) – Ribbon, Black (62600) – Stamp Marker, Charcoal (62601) – Stamp Marker

"This card is very simple to re-create. I simply made a house by punching two 1 inch squares and trimming a triangle from one of the squares for my house. I added several punched hearts along a border and added ribbon with a tiny knotted bow for a dimensional effect. I also added twine to the buttons before placing them on the hearts. This card represents a family of love."
Melanie Supplies: 8 1/2 x 11 White (71273) - AC Cardstock, Hardcover Aquatic (53138) - Thickers, A Wrinkle in Time Paper(35301) - The Classics, The Classics Large Pearl Brads (85527) - Elements, Foreward (43389) - Minimarks, 4x6 Cards (64006) - Just Write, .03 Black (62311) - Precision Pen

Melanie shares, "Since I got my iPhone I don't carry my 'big' camera around nearly as much. I snapped these photos of my son with his grandfather on my phone last week and was inspired to scrap them because I have never done a page about him. He is 81 years young and a wonderful Grandpa. I used The Classics line of paper for this page since I wanted to give my layout a timeless feel. I kept it simple (once again!) because of the funky photo treatment and added only a few small red accents as my embellishments."
Life is beautiful ac (1 of 1) Supplies: Bookmarks (64006) - Just Write, Bookplates (64007) - Just Write, Hardcover Aquatic (53138) - Thickers, The Classics Large Pearl Brads (85527) - Elements, Foreward(43389) - Minimarks, Brown Fine (62006) - Slick Writer, Bow Tie( 89398) - Ribbon

"I really like the blank 4x6 Just Write cards, they're perfect for a quick card that you can dress up for any occasion. I made this one with my husband in mind, as our 16th wedding anniversary is coming up this month. I took two identical cards, scored one of them at the top and folded it, and then joined them together at the fold with the AC tape. I placed the rub on title in the middle and then embellished the rest of the card from there."

Stay tuned for even more family-themed projects tomorrow plus our weekly giveaway!

Sarah Supplies: No Sweat Paper (35378) - Peachy Keen, Dandelion (71037) - AC Cardstock, Parfait (71499) - AC Cardstock, Pool (71069) - AC Cardstock, Subway White (42918) - Thickers, Mini Brads White (8472) - Elements, Black Fine (62001) - Slick Writers, Dimensional Dots (61709) - This to That

Sarah remarks, "I wanted to do a layout that focused on type and using Thickers is the easiest way to do that. I also wanted to add a little more interest to the Thickers so I put colors behind the centers of the letters."

"I love the Peachy Keen line, especially the Thickers. So, I just used a song lyric and emphasized a few of the important words using Thickers and hand wrote the rest!"

Leah Supplies: Appleton Cove Paper (35348) - Campy Trails, Elk Creek Trail Paper (35354) - Campy Trails, Kale Forest (53161) - Thickers, Popcorn Meadow (53166) - Thickers, Smores (89396) - Ribbon, Hot Dog (89397) - Ribbon, Path (42189) - Remarks, Hike (42190) - Remarks, Reinforced Decorative Tags (85534) - Bits, River (78044) - Details, Brown Fine (62006) - Slick Writer

I know the timing is different for every kid, so I didn't take this lightly. Fantasy fiction is one of my very favorite genres of literature - so needless to say, I'm enjoying our nightly reading times just as much {maybe even more!} than he is. There's something about sharing our personal loves with our children and passing them on to see their own wonder as they discover them..."
Leahf_iheartyou Supplies: Fox Park Forest Paper (35353) - Campy Trails, Salmon Cove Paper (35366) - Campy Trails, Dainty Paper (35404) - Hello Sunshine, Delicate Paper (35413) - Hello Sunshine, Sunrise Borders (53185) - Thickers, Brown Sugar Hardcover (53137) - Thickers, Aquatic Hardcover (53138) - Thickers, Natural Sunrise (53180) - Thickers, Aqua (59504) - Pigment Ink, Clear (27170) - Zing!,  Dimensional Tabs (61710) - This to That; Other supplies: Extra thick foam core board

"I recently came across something similar while browsing (or, should I say, running down the aisles with the kids?) at Target, and thought it was really, really clever! I couldn't find any samples, and since I didn't grab a pic, I opened up photoshop to plan out this little piece. Once I played around on the computer, putting it together was really quick!"

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your sweet comments every day! See you back here again on Monday!

Thickers Cards

PostmarkedMichelle Lanning made three happy cards featuring Thickers - check 'em out now:

Michelle Supplies: Frankie Fudge Paper (35342) - Confetti, Coconut Cody Paper (35328) - Confetti, Sadie Spice Cake Paper (35333) - Confetti, White (71081) - Cardstock, Pin The Tail (42186) - Remarks, Delight Robin's Egg (53073) - Thickers

Michelle explains, "For this card I was inspired by birthday donkey. I wanted to draw focus to it so I kept it at the center of the card. I created a fringe border to go along with the birthday theme (I was thinking pinata here). I finished it off with my favorite sized Thickers! This is such a fun card to give a child for their birthday."

ACbirthday2 Supplies: Sadie Spice Cake Paper (35333) - Confetti, Darbie Devil's Food Paper (35339) - Confetti,Frankie Fudge Paper (35342) - Confetti, Bows (87648) - Ribbon, Frankie Fudge Paper (35342) - Confetti, Pin The Tail (42186) - Remarks, Subway White (42918) - Thickers

"I love the colors in this line so much. I decided to make a non-birthday card to have in my stash, just in case. I kept it pretty simple, letting the greeting take up most of the design of the card. I think this makes it nice and friendly :)"

ACbirthday3 Supplies: White (71081) - Cardstock, Neopolitan Nellie Paper (35327) - Confetti, Peppermint Penny Paper (35343) - Confetti, Cheer Banana (53156) - Thickers, Serenade Strawberry (53151) - Thickers, Hooray (70064) - Flair, Cheer Accents (53157) - Thickers

"With this card I really wanted to play up the glitter Thickers. They are so fun and I have not used them enough. To make them fit I used them vertically. I cut strips of patterned paper to make a ribbon-like border on the left."

Tomorrow I'll announce the winner of the plethora of Thickers and showcase a few more Thickers projects!

ACguestdesign 031 copy Supplies: Nifty Paper (35386 - Peachy Keen, Good Golly Gee Paper (35375) - Peachy Keen, Radiant Paper (35396 - Hello Sunshine, Easy Peasy Paper (35382) - Peachy Keen, Lovely Lady (78047) - Details, Iguana Azure (53192) - Thickers, Fellow Fog (53175) - Thickers, Meadow Popcorn (53166) - Thickers, Sunrise Geranium (53178) - Thickers, Macaw White (53186) - Thickers

"My new favorite source of inspiration is Pinterest! I could spend hours on Pinterest finding countless numbers of inspirational pieces (and then bookmarking them!)  Recently I saw a wall art piece floating around Pinterest with all the sayings in this layout.  I love the meaning behind it and thought it would make for a fabulous scrapbook layout with a picture of my family. I used seven different Thickers styles to highlight the different phrases. I love the typography feel the various Thickers add to the layout!"

ACguestdesign 019 copy Supplies: Stumpy Meadow Paper (35347) - Campy Trails, Fox Park Forest Paper (35353) - Campy Trails, Zippy Paper (35411) - Hello Sunshine, Hot Dog (89397) - Ribbon, Hike (42190) - Remarks, Meadow Popcorn (53166) - Thickers, Margaria Diamond Brads (85549) - Lovely Lady (78047) - Details, 12x12 Sand (71043) - Cardstock, 12x12 Melon (71033) - Cardstock, 12x12 White (71081) - Cardstock
"I created this layout after a recent visit with family at a State Park. Naturally the Campy Trails line was a perfect match for this theme and the colors in my photos. (I may or may not have dressed my son in an orange shirt that day to match this specific line!) I took SO many photos and knew this would be a multi-photo layout. I created a photo grid with eight wallet sized photos and included various American Crafts embellishments, trims, and brads behind the photo grids. For the title I mounted Thickers onto orange American Crafts paper and outlined them with a pen. After trimming, I mounted the Thickers on white American Crafts cardstock and trimmed. This really made the title pop against the photo backdrop!"
ACguestdesign 058 copy Supplies: Meadow Popcorn (53166) - Thickers, Sunrise Geranium (53178) - Thickers, Macaw Sunshine (53188) - Thickers, Iguana Melon (53193) - Thickers, Iguana Azure (53192) - Thickers, Fantastic Salmon (53108) - Thickers, Forest Kale (53161) - Thickers, Sunset Blush (53182) - Thickers, Nutmeg Black (43042) - Thickers, Charming Chap (78046) - Details, 12x12 White (71081) - Cardstock, .03 Black (62311) - Precision Pen

"I made this quick and easy card using the adorable typewriter Details sticker and some odds and ends in my Thickers stash! I always seem to have a few loose letters leftover in a pack and this is a great way to use them up!" ACguestdesign 004 copy Supplies: Iguana Azure (53192) - Thickers, Fellow Fog (53175) - Thickers, Margarita Journaling Cards (64010) - JustWrite, Flamenco Paper (35419) - Margarita, Decorative Tags (85553) - Bits, Sangria Paper (35441) - Margarita

"This photo cracks me up and I couldn't wait to put it in a layout. My two kids and I had spent some time running through the sprinkler and setting the timer to get some fun action shots. I kept checking the view finder to see what the images looked like and that's when I turned to see my daughter doing the same thing on her play camera (checking a pretend viewfinder!) It was so funny and thankfully my camera was already in my hands so I could capture the moment! It really made me laugh and was a great reminder those little eyes are always watching me!! I made a grid with the Just Write Journaling Cards and added a border title with the Thickers. I added a second border around the photo - it was just the right touch to finish the layout."
ACguestdesign 093 copy Supplies: Easy Peasy Paper (35382) - Peachy Keen, Nifty Paper (35386) - Peachy Keen, Peppermint Penny Paper (35343) - Confetti, Bow Tie (89398) - Ribbon, Fantastic Salmon (53108) - Thickers, Serenade Spearmint (53152) - Thickers

"For this card I hand drew a heart and covered it in teal Thickers, then I layered the word "love" on top. It's a neat/different way to add dimension and a pattern to a project! And, once again, a great way to use leftover Thickers in a packet!"

"Right now, it's VBS (Vacation Bible School) week for my kids and I thought it would be perfect to create a little mini album for them highlighting the Creation Week (as found in Genesis 1) to compliment with what they are learning at VBS. I had SO much fun putting this together and it was so fun to use the American Crafts products in a creative way in order to coordinate with each day of Creation's theme. I used many different kinds of Thickers for each day's title and description. My kids LOVE this and they are learning at the same time!"

We asked Jenni some questions to get to know her a little bit better and here are her responses:

How did you get started scrapbooking?
I was first introduced to the hobby by my mom when I was in high school. She surprised me with three huge scrapbooks of my birth until high school at my high school open house. It was SO neat to look through the books at my life-time memories. It wasn't until I had my first child five years ago that I began to scrapbook. When he was born he had some unexpected complications and spent 12 days in the NICU (everything turned out fine). Once we were home safe and sound, I was left with so many thoughts and stories I wanted to document and share, so I began to scrapbook. In a sense, scrapbooking was my therapy as I process those 12 days.  I have been scrapbooking ever since.

What would you say your scrapbooking “style” is?
Describing my style is so hard for me to do - I feel like it's always changing. But, at the moment I would say I am really into textures, details, grids, and layering. You will usually find staples somewhere on my layouts and always handwritten journaling.

What is your favorite technique?
Like my style, I feel like my favorite techniques are always changing - right now I am really enjoying misting - there is so much you can do with a bottle of mist! I also LOVE punches and my circle punch. I probably use it too much, but there is a special place in my heart for circle punch grids.

When do you find time to scrap?
I stay at home with our 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter so I usually scrap either in the evening or while my daughter is napping (while my son is at school), but the summertime is a whole new ball game and is a little trickier!

On average, how long does it take you to complete a project?
A project can take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours! Much of it depends on how inspired I am for the particular projects. I have had times where the layout just falls into place easily and there are times where I feel like I am pushing paper around and nothing looks right. Usually when that happens I step away from my craft desk and do something different. After a little break I usually come back refreshed with ideas and inspiration.

What is your favorite thing about American Crafts?
Do I have to pick just one?? There are so many things I love about American Crafts, but if I had to choose one I would have to say the Thickers!! I have a CRAZY amount of Thickers in my stash - yet I always seem to need (want) more.

Make sure you stop by Jenni's blog to see all kinds of wonderful creations and inspiration - you'll be glad you did!

New Amy Tangerine Mini Book

Today, we wanted to give you a closer look at one of the awesome new products in our Amy Tangerine collection — the Mini Book!

At_minibook Each time Amy Tan prepares to leave for a trip, she puts together a book that’s similar to the one above (it’s made from an eclectic mix of multi-shaped papers that are stitched down the center). The book allows her to quickly add mementos or photos of the places she’s visiting. It’s a fun, non-traditional way of preserving memories.

This stop-motion video shows how Amy Tan scrapbooks with her Mini Book. The video features the song “Art” by Tanya Davis (buy it on iTunes) and is directed by Byrne Owens and edited by Mike Manning.

So, what do you think? Tweet it, share it, blog it!

Thickers Inspiration Chalkboard Tutorial

In-House Scrapbooker Ann-Marie Morris is going to show us how to make this fun inspiration chalkboard featuring Thickers with a step-by-step photo tutorial - I can't wait!

Ann-Marie Supplies: 12x12 Kraft Cardstock (71464) - AC Cardstock, 3 Black FMB (62063) - Slick Writer Packs, Blush Sunset (53182) - Thickers, Dawn (58620) -Ribbon, Blue Skies Pearl Brads (85267) - Elements; Other supplies: Circle cutter, scissors, hole punch

IMG_2031a Ann-Marie says, "I love design in all forms, so combining scrapbooking, decorating, and typography all in one project sounded like fun! I enjoy having an inspiring reminder on my chalkboard so I can see it every time I walk by. Plus, it's a great way to play with less frequently-used Thickers, such as "x" and "z." Try it for yourself!"

1. Decide on a phrase you want to spell over four circles to be made into a banner. Starting with your first letter, begin to place Thickers in a circle shape on kraft cardstock, covering at least 4x4" of space.
IMG_2023a2. Trace around each letter with a fine point Slick Writer. Color in your chosen letter with a medium point Slick Writer.
IMG_2025a3. Cut out a 4" circle using a circle cutter or punch.
IMG_2028a4. Attach each circle to each other with a pearl brad. IMG_2029a
5. Tie ribbon to the ends of the banner for it to be able to hang.
IMG_2030a6. Drape over a chalkboard and enjoy your creation!

IMG_2036a This is definitely a great combination of scrapbooking, decorating, and typography!

Come back in a few hours for a really cool stop-motion video featuring Amy Tan and her new line!

Thickers Week!

Thickers logo Big and beautiful - they've embraced their thickness, and they're here to stay. Add dimension and sophistication to your projects with Thickers letter and accent sitckers. Thickers are made of archival-quality materials and feature a variety of cool new fonts, colors and accents. This week we'll be featuring this all time and long time favorite of many scrapbookers alike. Today Jenny Chesnick and Shannon Zickel kick off Thickers week:

Jenny Supplies: Jitter Paper (35373) - Peachy Keen, Charming Chap (78046) - Details, Flat Black (53017) - Thickers; Other supplies: 11x14 frame plus mat

DSC_0152 Spiffy Paper (35380) - Peachy Keen, Twist (72008) - Delights, Sunrise Geranium (53178) - Thickers; Other supplies: 11x14 frame plus mat

Jenny shares, "When I was assigned to use Thickers I thought well isn't this going to be easy! Who doesn't have a monster stash of Thickers? So I went in search of some inspiration on Pinterest and found a couple of my 'pinned' prints. I used paper and Thickers to create my own frames to hang in my craft room."

Shannon Supplies: Charocoal (71077) - Cardstock, Pool (71069) - Cardstock, No Sweat Paper (35378) - Peachy Keen, Big Pine Creek Paper (35369) - Campy Trails, Campy Trails Buttons (85536) - Elements, Peachy Keen Variety Buttons (85541) - Elements, Li'l Tyke (42538) - Remarks, Fellow Fog (53175) - Thickers, Flat Robin's Egg (53018) - Thickers, Flat Black (53017) - Thickers, Lullaby White (43031) - Thickers, Jewelry Box White (43025) - Thickers, Nutmeg Black (43042) - Thickers, Shoe Box White (42882) - Thickers, Black Precision Pen .03 (62311) - Pens & Markers

Shannon says, "I find that I typically like to go in two directions when it comes to using Thickers -  choose just one font/color or go with a totally random approach. For this layout I went totally random. It's a great way to use a bunch of left over number Thickers and it didn't matter the number that I used so I was just able to pick what I had left over from 7 - yes 7! - different sets of Thickers!  What a great way to spice up a simple page!"

An in-house designer has a fun tutorial for us tomorrow! And come back later today for our weekly giveaway - think mountains of Thickers!

Jen Hello-card Supplies: Crimson (71029) - 12x12 Cardstock, Mustard (71036) - 12x12 Cardstock, Carrot (71032) - 12x12 Cardstock, White (71081) - 12x12 Cardstock, Wave (71070) - 12x12 Cardstock, Pico de Gallo Paper (35426) - Margarita, Mariachi Paper (35440) - Margarita, 4x6" cards (64010) - Margarita, Horchata Paper (35432) - Margarita, Pina Colada Paper (72013) - Margarita, Maria (59146) - Clear Stamps, Margarita Flower Brads (85550) - Elements, Mustard (27137) - Zing!, Paradise (42198) - Remarks

Jennifer confesses, "I have a brad addiction. No. It's true! I love adding brads to my projects. And I typically look for ways to add subtle interest to patterned paper or the background or to enhance and draw the eye to a portion of my page. For the layout I added a yellow brad to the center of the sun. I love the way it adds texture to the stickers. Then I added two brads on the yellow strip to hold my twine in place. I often wrap the twine around the brads several times to give them added interest. For the card I poked a hole through two of the flowers on the journaling card and then added more textured brads. Love the way a brad can dress up any project!"

Tomorrow come back for the Guest Designer of the Week which will wrap up Decorative Brads Week!

Guest Designer of the Week: Amy Parker

Guest Designer of the Week2
This week's talented guest designer is Amy Parker! She made THREE layouts, TWO cards, and ONE fabulous project all featuring decorative brads for your enjoyment and inspiration:

Amy Parker 3 mo American Crafts Supplies: Good Golly Gee Paper (35375) - Peachy Keen, Baby Doll Paper (35384) - Peachy Keen, Gee Whiz Paper (35383) - Peachy Keen, Easy Peasy Paper (35382) - Peachy Keen, Peppy Paper (35405) - Hello Sunshine, Delight Paper (35399) - Hello Sunshine, Li'l Tykes (42538) - Remarks, Super Swell (42193) - Remarks, Marquise Rose (53026) - Thickers, Peachy Keen Corduroy Brads (85538) - Elements, Dear Lizzy Crocheted Flowers (77237) - House, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Pearl Brads (85519) - Elements

"I am working on trying to play catch up on my daughter's monthly layouts and I thought the colors of these papers just went beautifully with these pictures! This layout is pretty simple in that it is just layers of papers (cut with punches and decorative scissors) that are just stacked one on top of another and then sewed down! This creates a lot of texture on what is actually a pretty flat page. A few brad clusters and a bow and it is done!"

Amy Parker Pink Baby Card American Crafts GDT Supplies: Delight Paper (35399) - Hello Sunshine, Leafy (89289) - Ribbon, Nighty Night (70016) - Flair, Lullaby Sunflower (42959) - Thickers, Li'l Tykes (42538) - Remarks
Amy Parker Blue Baby card American Crafts GDT Supplies: Snake River Paper (35352) - Campy Trails, Thing of Beauty Paper (35370) - Peachy Keen, Gee Whiz Paper (35383) - Peachy Keen, Easy Peasy Paper (35382) - Peachy Keen, Good Golly Gee Paper (35375) - Peachy Keen, Gossamer Paper (35409) - Hello Sunshine, Peppy Paper (35405) - Hello Sunshine, Aruba Paper (35425) - Margarita, Hello Sunshine Metal Rimmed Tags (85546) - Bits, Nighty Night (70016) - Flair, Hardcover Aquatic (53138) - Thickers

"I am like the worst card maker in the world so these two cards took me a long time to make!! Laugh! They are extremely simple and easy to do once you step back and look them over. The Blue Baby card is just a bunch of coordinating patterned papers punched with various sized circle punches and then all sewed down, with a simple title and a fun Flair pin for depth! The Pink Baby card is a little more complicated in that it has ribbon flowers. I had never made these kinds of flowers before so it was a new thing for me but turned out to be really easy! (The trick is to use a long stick pin while you roll it so that your whole thing doesn't come undone!)"

Amy Parker Ranunculus and Poppies American Crafts GDT Supplies: Thing of Beauty Paper (35370) - Peachy Keen, Gee Whiz Paper (35383) - Peachy Keen, Easy Peasy Paper (35382) - Peachy Keen, Gossamer Paper (35409) - Hello Sunshine, Peppy Paper (35405) - Hello Sunshine, Splendor Paper (35401) - Hello Sunshine, Frankie Fudge Paper (35342) - Confetti, Hot Dog (89397) - Ribbon, Leafy (89289) - Ribbon, Peachy Keen Corduroy Brads (85538) - Elements, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Rose brads (85522) - Elements, Doll Waterfall (53169) - Thickers, Serenade Strawberry (53151) - Thickers, Regards Black (53004) - Thickers

"For this layout I challenged myself to use more pictures and to do a two pager. These are two very crazy things for me, cause the most pictures I will put on a layout is three cause I just simply run out of room otherwise! So because of that the logical thing was to do a two pager, but that is also something that is not that common with me! I had a blast with this layout though. It is a lot more simple I normally do, but I wanted to keep it that way in order to keep the focus on the beautiful flowers! But to get little hints of color and texture, I used tiny little strips of paper that are all peeking from behind the flower pictures. Just there enough to accent the pictures, but hidden enough to not take your eyes away from the flowers."

Amy Parker Tues and Thurs American Crafts GDT Aruba Paper (35425) - Margarita, Havana Paper (35435) - Margarita, Merengue Paper (35438) - Margarita,
Gee Whiz Paper (35383) - Peachy Keen, Good Golly Gee Paper (35375) - Peachy Keen, Glee Paper (35402) - Hello Sunshine, Paradise (42197) - Remarks, Summertime (42198) - Remarks, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Brads (85521) - Elements, Margarita Tags (85553) - Bits, Serenade Strawberry (53151) - Thickers, Marquise Rose (53026) - Thickers

"This is a very special layout to me because it documents something very meaningful in my daughter's life. My daughter has to have speech therapy to help improve her speech (a year ago she barely spoke more than two words together at anytime, and they were extremely difficult to understand cause her pronunciation just wasn't there). And this is the wonderful speech therapist that helped our Creedence get to the place she is now. My daughter has developed so much vocabulary and the sounds are all there! I can't describe how much it means to be to be able to hear my daughter communicate exactly what she wants to say!"
Amy Parker Barrettes American Crafts GDT Amy Parker Barrettes upper American Crafts Supplies: Dear Lizzy Crocheted Flowers (77237) - House, Peachy Keen Corduroy Brads (85538) - Elements, Pearl Brads Love (85508) - Elements, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Rose Brads (85522) - Elements,
Leafy (89289) - Ribbon, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Brads (85521) - Elements, Margarita Diamond Brads (85549) - Elements

"These little things are pretty straight forward! I desperately needed some cute things for my daughter's hair after she took the scissors to them just recently and gave herself some bangs. Laugh! I created these with some Field House felt pieces, and some pieces I cut out of some scrap felt, and pinned them together with some gorgeous brads. After that you fix them to some little hair clips, and you have some easy to make little pretties for your hair! Or even your sweaters (which is where I clip mine most of the time!)"

Here is a little interview Amy filled out for us:

How did you get started scrapbooking?
I got started in the spring of 2008, a little after my eldest daugher Creedence was born. Like many other scrapbookers out there, I really wanted to start documenting all the memories and photos from her first days. I went to the local craft store (I don't actually have a scrapbooking store around here!), and got some basics and just kind of played around for a while. Nothing actually got glued down for a good long while! Laugh! I started really getting serious a little bit before my first blog post in May 2008, and I have not stopped since then!

What would you say your scrapbooking “style” is?
This one is extremely difficult for me to pinpoint because I have no clue what my style is!! It changes so very much from layout to layout that I don't think I can really say. There are a few things about my "style" that are almost always present on my layouts though: I LOVE to cluster embellish, layer on my papers, and use my sewing machine.

What is your favorite technique?
Eeeps! This is another hard one, cause I don't really consider much of what I do super techniquey. I am really into paint splattering right now, so I will go with that!

When do you find time to scrap?
Laugh! My family freaks out about this a little bit, but my crafting time is from about 10:30pm to 3 am! It is extremely rare anymore for me to be able to do any crafting during the day, or even any scrappy related stuff online! I am always either holding the baby or running around with the Munchkin!

On average, how long does it take you to complete a project?
It truly can depend on the project, because I have been able to on a rare occasion do a layout in one day, or take up to a week to finish another. I really prefer when they go together super fast and easy, but let's face it - that doesn't happen a whole lot!

What is your favorite thing about American Crafts?
My first love of American Crafts is Thickers!!! I LOVE me some Thickers! I have a ton! Laugh! But I also really really love that American Crafts produces so many embellishments to go along with their paper collections. Even though I tend to mix most collections together, I really do like to be able to scrap all one collection at times. And having a huge selection of embellishments is essential!

Make sure to visit Amy's blog for tons of creative ideas!

CHA Reveal 6: Glitter and Tinsel Ribbon, Pow! Glitter Paper, AC Cardstock and Patterned Post Bound Albums

Are you ready for this? We are super excited to expand some of our product categories with excellent new products. Read on!

We’re introducing a bunch of Glitter and Tinsel Ribbons to our premium ribbon selection. These ribbons are super sparkly and available in our most popular colors.

Glitter_Ribbon_Assortment

Remember our Pow! Glitter Paper? It provides all the brilliance of glitter but none of the mess. It DOES NOT rub off the sheet! Well, we happen to be adding 42 new colors and patterns to the lineup — pretty exciting, if we do say so ourselves. Here are a few of the colors and patterns you can expect to see:

Christmas Patterns

71623_winter_denimflakes

Everyday Patterns

71603_Flowers_Apricot

71606_patterns_jadeargyle

71607_patterns_taffydots

We’re also adding 15 colors to our AC Cardstock — the best cardstock for die-cutting machines (and everything else). The colors perfectly complement some of the collections you saw last week.

And, last but certainly not least, we are introducing 8 new patterned Post Bound Albums. Here are a few of the new patterns:

76201_Patterned_Album_Black_Polka

Well, that’s a wrap! Which of these new products are you the most excited about? Leave a comment on this post and we’ll choose one random winner (to be announced on Friday, July 15th) to receive a patterned album of their choice plus one 25-sheet pack of each of the new cardstock colors. Decorative Brads Tote Bag Tutorial

Today we're going to learn how to make this uber cute tote bag with a step-by-step photo tutorial by Sarah de Guzman:

Sarah Supplies: Plastic Rose Brads (85539) - Elements, Galaxy Black (62121) - Markers; Other supplies: Canvas bag, spray mists

Sarah shares, "Brads don't always have to be used for scrapbooking and cardmaking. Feel free to use them in all sorts of crafts. I embellished a simple canvas bag with brads, and it added a whole new look!"

Step 1 - Gather your supplies then pick where you want to design on your bag.
Acproject1 Step 2 - Place letters on your bag to create a mask for your mists. I used leftover patterned paper on my Cricut to cut out the word "create".
Acproject2 Step 3 - Use a couple of misting sprays to add color to your bag.

Acproject3 Step 4 - Once the mists are dry, peel back the letters to see the imprint that was left behind on the bag.

Acproject4 Step 5 - Add brads to your bag to dress it up. With canvas material, brads are able to poke right through. Note that sometimes the brad backings will snag items on the inside. To avoid this from happening, simply cut the metal prongs off the back and use strong permanent adhesive on the brad.

Acproject5 Ta-da! Simple and easy canvas tote bag!

Acproject6 Your embellished bag is sure to make a statement at your next crop or shopping adventure!

The final CHA reveal is coming up in a few hours!

CHA Reveal 5: Nightfall

Hope you had a good weekend! We know you’ve been anticipating this reveal all weekend, so we’ll jump right in.

Nightfall
Nightfall celebrates the best parts of autumn and Halloween — falling leaves, hayrides, and trick-or-treating. With its warm harvest color pallet and texture-heavy patterns, this cute “Fall-oween” line is ideal for seasonal decorations and regular project needs.

Nightfall is unique because half of the papers and embellishments feature Halloween-esque elements and half feature autumn elements, yet the whole collection works perfectly together. Take a peek:

Decorative brads add that extra color, texture, or accent to your project. ???From jewel and diamond, fabric and corduroy, pearl and glitter, to metal and plastic rose brads, American Crafts has a type, size, and color of brad that will fit every occasion! To start out this week of decorative brads, design team member Pooi and in-house scrapbooker Lindsey Hansen have each created a card and layout:?

Pooi Supplies:  12x12 Cardstock White (71081) – AC Cardstock,  12x12 Cardstock Black (71260) - AC Cardstock, Right-O Paper (35371) – Peachy Keen, Fancy Free Paper (35377) – Peachy Keen,  Made in the Shade Paper (35379) - Peachy Keen, Tamale Paper (35434) – Margarita, Retreat (42198) – Remarks, Candles (87649) – Ribbon, Audrey (42191) – Remarks, Charming Chap (780446) – Details, Primaries (85465) – Medium Eyelets, Iguana Black (53190) – Thickers, Plastic Rose Brads (85539) – Elements, Medium Brads (85537) – Elements, Flower Brads (85550) - Elements, Medium Jewel Brads Metallic (85289) - Elements, Fabric Brads (85535) – Elements

Pooi shares, “I always love to see the rainbow, it’s a sign of hopes and dreams all over again. This rainbow came smiling through my last night in Kauai, Hawaii before returning back to Singapore. I was overjoyed and too excited. And I just want to scrap this with all my feelings and to remember that special moments are ‘somewhere out there…’ The rows of different types of brads on the left are the bullet points for my journaling. American Crafts has the most variety of decorative brads that add so much fun elements to my layouts”

Thanks for listening card Supplies : 12x12 Cardstock Black (71260) - AC Cardstock, Diamond Brads (85549) - Elements, Charming Chap (780446) – Details

“I made this simple card to thank a good friend for being a listening ear. I like how the large diamond brads added some bling to the card. It’s so easy and simple to use brads to decorate the card, just the way I like it!"
Lindsey Supplies: Charcoal (71077) - AC Cardstock, Kraft (71464) - AC Cardstock, White (71081) - AC Cardstock, Zippy Paper (35411) - Hello Sunshine, No Sweat Paper (35378) - Peachy Keen, Sunrise Natural (53180) -Thickers, Delight Robin's Egg (53073) - Thickers, Bow Tie (89398) - Ribbon, Maria (59146) - Stamps, Black .03 (62311) - Precision Pen, Black (59500) - Pigment Ink, Peachy Keen Decorative Tags (85543) - Bits, Tropicals Large Brads (85407) - Elements, Tropicals Medium Brads (85392) - Elements, Tropicals Mini Brads (85377) - Elements, Baby Boy Large Brads (85413) - Elements, Baby Boy Medium Brads (85398) - Elements, Tropicals Buttons (85437) - Elements

Lindsey says, "I had pictures of my nephew that I have been wanting to scrapbook and thought elements would be a fun touch to this layout. As I was looking for inspiration I thought it would be a great idea to cut out a shape using the Silhouette and what a better match to use a circle shape to fit the elements in! I didn't want the layout to be too distracting so I made a limited color palette. If you know me, I am in love with yellow and gray right now. I thought I would add a little teal to help it pop. The card was fun as well. I'm all about bright colors and trying to make things cheerful."

Another CHA line makes its debut in a few hours! Can't wait!

I cut out lots of triangles from lots of different papers and made little pennant banners with them. This is a fun way of using the banner trend and getting the banner to look exactly how you want. I love the fact that you can coordinate items across the different AC lines and use them on one page, like I’ve done here."

Pennant banner Supplies: Fruit Punch Frannie Paper (35325) – Confetti, Coconut Cody Paper (35328) – Confetti, Archie Angel Food Paper (35329) – Confetti, Santo Domingo Paper (35430) – Margarita, Zippy Paper (35411) – Hello Sunshine, Gleam Paper (35414) – Hello Sunshine, Fancy Free Paper (35377) – Peachy Keen, Right-O Paper (35371) – Peachy Keen, Lovely Lady (78047) – Details, Shout (72009) – Delights, Bow Tie (89398) – Ribbon

Pennant banner-3"Shop-bought party decorations are great and very handy, but I wanted to create something special for my sister’s 18th birthday. I decorated our front door with a pennant banner that I made by cutting triangles from different patterned papers, sewing ribbon across the top, and decorating it with Peachy Keen Delights and Details. Super cute and super fun!"

How did you get started scrapbooking?
I got a job in a scrapbook store one summer about 6 years ago and started researching scrapbooking on the internet. A whole new world opened up before me! It took me a few years to get into it as I went away to university shortly after working there and it wasn’t really practical both in terms of time and money. But I always kept my eye on scrapbooking galleries and magazines because I knew it was something I wanted to get into properly when I could. It’s only been in the last year or two that I feel I’ve got into it in a big way and have started to define a bit of a style.

What would you say your scrapbooking “style” is?
Colourful, clean, fun, and feminine.

What is your favorite technique?
I don’t do a lot of really difficult technique things, but I do love to mix and match patterned papers on my pages to make sure they are always fun and colourful.

When do you find time to scrap?
Usually in the evenings after dinner or at the weekends. Lazy Sunday afternoons spent scrapbooking are the best!

On average, how long does it take you to complete a project?
It really varies from page to page. Sometimes I sit down at my desk and have such a clear idea in my mind about what I want a layout to look like, down to already knowing what products I’m going to use, which means that I can get a page done very quickly. Other times I sit down because I fancy making something and then faff around for hours choosing products and playing around with things... adding bits and pieces and then taking them away and swapping them for something else. On average, though, I’d say about two hours.

What is your favorite thing about American Crafts?
Thickers. I’m not ashamed to admit I am actually obsessed with them. I use them on EVERY SINGLE LAYOUT. No word of a lie!

Be sure to stop by Stephanie's blog and leave some love then come back here again in a few hours for another fabulous sneak peek of a new Summer CHA 2011 line!

Banner Frame Tutorial

The talent behind today's banner-themed tutorial is Cindy Tobey!

Cindy Supplies: Hello Sunshine Decorative Tags (85547) – Bits, Peachy Keen Decorative Tags (85543) – Bits, Peachy Keen Metal Rimmed Tags (85542) – Bits, City Park Decorative Tags (77244) – Bits, The Classics Decorative Tags (77246) – Bits, No Sweat Paper (35378) – Peachy Keen, Nifty Paper (35386) – Peachy Keen, My Darling Paper (35390) – Peachy Keen, Sunny Banana (53121) – Thickers; Other supplies: frame, twine, staples

Cindy declares, "I really love the banner trend that is just about everywhere right now and thought it would be fun to make a banner style 'welcome' décor piece to hang in my entryway."

Step 1. Gather your supplies. Select several tags to make into pennants for your banner. Trim the sides and bottom as shown to create your first tag pennant. Use this first pennant to trace onto the back of all your other tags and cut along your traced lines.

Welcome-Frame-Step1and2-CindyT Step 2. Trim several 1” x 3” paper strips. Fold them each in half and adhere closed. Cut each of these into triangular pennants.

Welcome-Frame-Step3-CindyT Step 3. Add small staples to pennants and a few round tags as shown to thread twine through.

Welcome-Frame-Step4-CindyT Step 4. Add your banners to an empty frame by simply tying the twine right to the sides of the frame.

Welcome-Frame-Detail-CindyT Step 5. Add “welcome” with foam Thickers to your pennants and that’s it! Your frame is ready to put on display!

I'm off to make one of these right now - join me in the fun?

Come back in a few hours for the first of many CHA Summer 2011 reveals!

Today Poki Nobeno and Céline Navarro have each created a layout and card featuring banners:

IMG_2468 Supplies: Fruit Punch Frannie Paper (35325) - Confetti, Grape Paper (71513) - POW!, Jitter Paper (35373) - Peachy Keen, Holy Moly Paper (35391) - Peachy Keen, My Oh My Paper (35376) - Peachy Keen, Margarita Diamond Brads (85549) – Elements, Swing (72003) - Delights, Pinata (42187) – Remarks, Confetti Clubhouse (77247) - House

Poki shares, "The photos on the layout show my son trying to eat strawberries. I used several different lines. The banner which is placed under the title and is made of patterned paper. I chose white cardstock as a base. I cut out circles from the white cardstock base and I inlaid them with another paper. Then I sewed around the circles by machine. I punched out a butterfly from Pow paper - that paper is thin so it's easy to punch and it glitters so lovely! The work is clean and neat using vivid tones of colors with a white background. Any color looks beautiful on the white paper, that why I love using a white paper very much."

Ce´line Navarro Supplies: 12x12 Cardstock White (71081) - AC Cardstock, Brilliance Paper (35415) - Hello Sunshine, Merengue Paper (35438) - Margarita, Elk Creek Trail Paper (35354) - Campy Trails, Letter Antonio (42196) - Remarks, Powder Subway (42920) - Thickers, Summertime (42197) - Remarks, Margarita Decorative Tags (85553) - Bits, Postcard (59145) - Stamps, Neon Amber (27169) - Zing!, Wave (27145) - Zing!, Mustard (27137) - Zing!, Cricket (27142) - Zing!, Rouge (27123) - Zing!

Ce´line remarks, "I had been looking forward to scrapping some of my photos from our trip to Greece. The Margarita line has been one of my favorites because of its bold and vibrant colors and I thought it would be perfect as those colors are everywhere in Greece! The little banners I glued on my layout were simply made with one of the stamps from the Margarita Postcard set. I used watermark ink to stamp on a piece of scrap paper, stamped 5 times the same stamp and embossed each print with 5 different embossing powders! Have you ever tried the Zing! embossing powders? Oh my! YOU HAVE TO! They are perfect!"
IMG_4186 IMG_4190Supplies: 12x12 Cardstock White (71081) - AC Cardstock, Margarita Decorative Tags (85553) - Bits, Summertime (42197) - Remarks, Margarita Postcard (59145) - Stamps, Bow Tie (89398) - Ribbon

"A little card sent to a close friend usually makes them happy :) For this one, I used ribbons, cut them like banners and glue them to the string in front of my card! Any ribbons you never use? Try this fun trick!"

Tomorrow will be great for two reasons: we have an awesome step-by-step tutorial in the morning and then in the afternoon CHA summer 2011 sneaks begin! See you then!

Summer Layouts and Cards

A big congratulations to the randomly selected winner of the entire Margarita line, Leigh Ann Baird:

6a00d8357de06869e2015432a189a1970c Hope you all enjoy your plans for the upcoming 4th of July holiday!

Today, In-House Scrapbooker Ann-Marie Morris and Design Team member Wendy McKee have each made a summer-themed layout and card to wrap up this festive week!

Ann-MarieSupplies: Guacamole Paper (35437) - Margarita, Merengue Paper (35438) - Margarita, Cha-Cha Paper (35428) - Margarita, Zippy Paper (35411) - Hello Sunshine, Good Afternoon (42195) - Remarks, Fantastic White (53110) - Thickers, Sunset Limeade (53184) - Thickers, Decorative Tags (85546) - Bits, Medium Glitter Brads (85532) - Elements, Gold Mini Jewel Brads (85284) - Elements, .01 Black (62301) - Precision Pen, Dimensional Dots (61709) - This to That, Solid Glue Runner (61711) - This to That

Ann-Marie shares, "One of my favorite things to do is to create a seasonal 'to-do' list of places I want to go and experiences I want to have over the next few months. It's always fun to scrap things like this because they're so much fun to look back on at a later date. For my layout, I used pieces from both Margarita and Hello Sunshine since I love how the two color palettes work so nicely together. I journaled around the perimeter of the page, separating each item of my list with a mini jewel brad (have I mentioned how much I love those things?). This not only allows me to include extra journaling but it also acts as a visual border for the layout. Bring on Summer 2011!"

AC_CS_6x_Greetings_HiSupplies: Havana Paper (35435) - Margarita, Cozumel Paper (35420) - Margarita, Cha-Cha Paper (35428) - Margarita, Brilliance Paper (35415) - Hello Sunshine, Macaw White (53186) - Thickers, Decorative Tags (85553) - Bits, Getaway (78050) - Details, Large Diamond Brads (85549) - Elements

"Even though Margarita has a Latin vacation vibe, it can also be used for sentiments other than travel. Using the 'Greetings' Detail as a jumping-off point, I created a card that I would give to a friend just to say hi."  Wendy Supplies: Pico de Gallo Paper (35426), Rumba Paper (35436), Calypso Paper (35433), Empanada Paper (35429), Havana Paper (35435), Guacamole Paper (35437), Mojito Paper (35423) - Margarita, Macaw White (53186) - Thickers, Summertime (42192) - Remarks

Photo 5 Supplies: Pico de Gallo Paper (35426), Rumba Paper (35436), Calypso Paper (35433), Empanada Paper (35429), Havana Paper (35435) - Margarita, Summertime (42192) - Remarks, Getaway (78050) - Details, White (71081) - Cardstock

Wendy says, "I made the heart with strips from the bottoms of the paper. To make sure that you can see the seperate parts of the paper I inked all the edges to give them more definition. To make the heart stand out from the photos I used a pair of scissors to rough up the edges to add more texture. I used a white background to make the colours pop out more on the page."

Who's in the mood to create some summer projects after this week?! I know I definitely am! Have a great weekend, pop by tomorrow to see the latest and greatest Design Team gallery, and see you back here on Monday!
