Guest Designer of the Week: Michelle Clement

Guest Designer of the Week2
I'm excited to announce the guest designer of the week (who is actually now on the Design Team for 2011-2012!): Michelle Clement!

MichelleClement_Headshot You'll love her assortment of mini projects!

Campers1_475px Supplies: Stumpy Meadow Paper (35347) - Campy Trails, Big Pine Creek Paper (35369) – Campy Trails, Powder Point Camp Paper (35368) – Campy Trails, Silver Lake Trail Paper (35346) - Campy Trails, Empanada Paper (35429) - Margarita, Deer (77249) – Patchems, Forest Vanilla (53162) - Thickers, Decorative Tags (85534) - Bits

"I wanted to document a really fun hammock-camping trip my husband and I took because I often forget to photograph our camp set-up (with the motorcycle we travel on) in a shot. The ‘you’re such a deer’ Patchems was perfect, because the mister is patient with me and camping - and the Campy Trails colors went with the photos perfectly! I added some circle punched from patterned paper for pops of color and to draw the eye into the photos, and painted the top edge with watered down acrylic paint for balance."

Beauty1_475px Supplies: Havana Paper (35435) - Margarita, Stumpy Meadow Paper (35347) – Campy Trails, Powder Point Camp Paper (35368) - Campy Trails, Silver Lake Trail Paper (35346) - Campy Trails, Decorative Tags (85534) - Bits, Super Swell (42193) - Remarks, Deer (77249) - Patchems

"This card was inspired by the Campy Trails Patchems with the mountains and sky scene on it. I cut the house from a tag and set it on there to see how it would look and then I fell in love with the mini-scene and added a tent, a skunk, a tree – and voila! A cute little dimensional scene that’s full of texture. The all-occasion message also makes it great for everything from ‘I like you’ to ‘that was a great trip!’"

Five1_475pxSupplies: Delight Paper (35399) – Hello Sunshine, Caramel Candie Paper (35337) – Confetti, Good Golly Gee Paper (35375) – Peachy Keen, Merengue Paper (35438) - Margarita, Big Pine Creek Paper (35369) – Campy Trails, Dainty Paper (35404) - Hello Sunshine, Sunset Blush (53182) – Thickers, Cake (78042) – Details, Glitter Chipboard Clubhouse (77247) - House

"This is one of my favorite photos of little me that my mom took at my fifth birthday party – it’s the look of surprise on my face when I opened my favorite elephant stuffed animal ‘Wrinkles’. He followed me around for years so I love that this moment was captured – it deserves a page of its own! I used bright colors to capture the feel of the party and girly details like cupcakes and glitter shapes to add a little dimension to the page. I didn’t journal a lot – just a few key points – because I think the photo says it all and wanted to keep the focus there."

Job1_475px Supplies: Empanada Paper (35429) – Margarita, Betty Bundt Paper (35324) - Confetti, Super Swell  (42193) - Remarks, Forest Vanilla (53162) Thickers, Clubhouse Glitter Chipboard (77247) - House

"I don’t often see a lot of ‘great job!’ cards out there and this notebook sticker inspired one from me. The glitter shape reminded me of the tops of the award ribbons you get in contests so I used stickers to create the bottom of the award as the perfect congratulatory embellishment. I lightly sanded the Thickers and painted them orange so they stood out on the light background paper."

Tree1_475px Supplies: Havana Paper (35435) – Margarita, Calypso Paper (35433) - Margarita, Merengue Paper (35438) - Margarita, Delight Paper (35399) – Hello Sunshine, Peachy Keen Rose Brads (85539) - Elements, Getaway (78050) - Details, Super Swell (42193) – Remarks, Macaw Sunshine (53188) – Thickers, Margartia Decorative Tags (85552) – Bits, 4x6" Journaling Cards (64010) - JustWrite

"I fondly remember our house with the apricot tree in the backyard and the summers we spent there with it. This photo is of my sister and I and our grandparents house (I love that Grandpa is in the tree, too!). The bright colors of the Margarita line matched my nineties bathing suit really well and also captured the happiness of this summer memory for me. I used strips of patterned paper to draw the eye across the page and that lovely felt butterfly helps draw attention to the photo and journaling."Cupcake1_475px Cupcake3_475px Cupcake9_475px Cupcake11_475px Cupcake12_475px Supplies: Macaw Sunshine (53188) - Thickers, Forest Vanilla (53162) - Thickers, Campy Trails Fabric Brads (85535) - Elements, Cake (78042) - Details, Campy Trails Decorative Tags (85534) - Bits, Super Swell (42193) – Remarks, Empanada Paper (35429) – Margarita, Peppy Paper (35405) – Hello Sunshine, Breezy Paper (35406) – Hello Sunshine, Dainty Paper (35404) – Hello Sunshine, Frolic Paper (35403) – Hello Sunshine, Big Pine Creek Paper (35369) – Campy Trails, Bow Tie (89398) – Ribbon, Delight Paper (35399) - Hello Sunshine, Dainty Paper (35404) - Hello Sunshine, Peachy Keen Rose Brads (85539) - Elements

"I’ve been working on learning how to use my new digital camera so I had a ton of close-up photos from around my home – the little things like embroidery projects in progress, what I’m crocheting, the edge of my new glasses – and I thought they were really great little bits of life to document for my future self. I decided to call the album ‘Cupcakes of My Life’ because the photos seemed like really special bits of my life, like cupcakes: they’re tasty, yummy treats that you get on happy occasions. I cut the photos down and stitched bits of patterned paper right onto the sides of them for a little color and texture. I journaled about the photos on the back with a marker (so as not to clutter the eye candy), and added a little stitched mosaic of paper bits to the cover (which was made from a saved paper bag). I bound it with a metal ring and crocheted chains, and put my introduction page to the album and the title on the inside of the cover."

We asked Michelle a few questions to find out more about her and here are her answers:

How did you get started scrapbooking?
I got started in 1997 after taking a beginner’s class with my sister and mom at a local shop (complete with Disney stickers and cutting photos into star shapes!). I scrapped with my family after that and then had an assignment in high school to make a scrapbook for English class which is when I fell in love with it in a whole new way. I started scrapbooking regularly then (in a more artsy fashion) and even worked in my local scrapbook store for awhile. It wasn’t until five years ago that I discovered the wonderful online community of scrapbookers and I’ve since had the chance to work with some awesome companies.

What would you say your scrapbooking “style” is?
My style is very artsy, detailed, and layered. I like to say it looks fairly handmade, too. Maybe even freestyle? I use a lot of paint and scrumple my paper edges and I also include a lot of handmade details like stitching and wooden letter-by-letter stamping.

What is your favorite technique?
My favorite technique is painting – actually, any wet medium! Paint, dye, ink, and mist top my list – it’s hard for me to do a page without them!

When do you find time to scrap?
I usually scrapbook at night, after work – though I do sometimes pull out my supplies on the weekend (it’s so nice to scrapbook with sun streaming in my windows!). Often, I’m burning the midnight oil.

On average, how long does it take you to complete a project?
I’m a pretty slow scrapbooker – I like to take my time, push things around, sew, wait for paint to dry – lol. I usually average 2-3 hours per page, but I work on multiple pages at the same time.

What is your favorite thing about American Crafts?
My favorite things about American Crafts are the bright patterned papers (with such cute, eye-pleasing patterns!) that are so versatile they work with every page ‘occasion’! I’m also an embellishment junkie and really love the Patchems, Flair, and glitter Thickers.

Michelle has a really great blog so make sure you stop by and leave some love!

Mini Birthday Calendar Tutorial

Do you have a hard time remembering birthdays? Worry no more! With this easy step-by-step photo tutorial featuring a mini birthday calendar by Michelle Lanning, you'll never forget a birthday again!

MichelleSupplies: Havana Paper (35435) - Margarita, Mariachi Paper (35440) - Margarita, Tamale Paper (35434) - Margarita, Guacamole Paper (35437) - Margarita, Printed Variety Tags (85521) - Bits, Printed Long Variety Tags (85553) - Bits,  Macaw Taffy (53189) - Thickers, Retreat (42200) - Remarks, Getaway (78050) - Details

Hello there! Popping in to share with you a little mini that I definitely need. I can remember almost anything and everything about what I did 10 years ago, but I have this big blank when it comes to birthdays. Odd right? Well I have hopefully solved my problem! I created a fun mini calendar that can sit right on top of my desk so that I can take a peak at what important birthdays are coming up.

1) I first started by choosing four patterned papers out of the Margarita line. I printed out some blank calendars that I put together which you can download and print right here
ACT12) I cut all the calendar pieces and left a small white border.
ACT2 3) Next, I cut the patterned paper pieces to 3.5x4.5".
ACT4
4) Then I adhered the calendar piece towards the bottom half of the patterned paper.
ACT5ACT3 ACT6 5) I wanted to add a little tab at the top of the calendar pieces so I used some of the Bits variety tags and stapled them to the back of the patterned paper.
ACT7 ACT8 6) To finish up, I added some glitter Thickers that match the corresponding month.
ACT9 7) Here they are all finished!
ACT10You could bind these with a jump ring, or sew them together, but I found something that fits them just perfectly. It is a box from Starbucks that holds those yummy cake pops. I only used the bottom portion. It fit the cards perfectly! I just added a few embellishments to finish it off.
ACT11 Genius idea - thanks for thinking of it and sharing it with us Michelle!

We have another guest designer tomorrow so make sure you come back then!

Mini Week!

Mini Mini albums. Mini cards. Mini layouts. Mini everything! This week we're shrinking things down and showing you how fun and super cute tiny creations can be! Mahlin Wiggur and Pooi both created a mini layout and card to kick off this miniature week:

MahlinSupplies: Ash (71078) - Cardstock, Right-O Paper (35371) - Peachy Keen, Gossamer Paper (35409) - Hello Sunshine, No Sweat Paper (35378) - Peachy Keen, My Darling Paper (35390) – Peachy Keen, Spree Paper (35400) - Hello Sunshine, Fancy Free Paper (35377) - Peachy Keen, Peachy Keen Metal Rimmed Decorative Tags (85542) – Bits, Lovely Lady (78047) - Details, Bow Tie (89398) - Ribbon, Dear Lizzy Enchanted Mini Pearl Brads (85519) – Elements, Hello Sunshine Pearl Brads (85545) - Elements, Sunshine (72012) - Delights, Heart White (53092) - Thickers

Mahlin says, "I made an 8x8" layout and I am so happy I got a whole bunch of 3x2" photos, cause scrapping this small is no walk in the park! If you are like me and like to embellish alot, you really got to think ahead, what to use and where to put it. But I like the outcome and I realize that 8x8" is a beautiful size for making artwork of your layouts."
Augminicard Supplies: Ash (71078) - Cardstock, Heartstrings (89384) - Ribbon, Song (89387) – Ribbon, Pond (89392) - Ribbon, Duchess (89389) - Ribbon, Bootiful (89385) - Ribbon, Lovely Lady (78047) - Details

"My card is 3x3". I wanted to use several papers and some stamps, but it wouldn't fit as I wanted. Then I got the idea to use ribbon, a lot of ribbon! American Crafts has such a wide range of just stunning ribbons so this was perfect for my little little card."
PooiSupplies: White (71081) – Cardstock, Cedar River Trail Paper (35359) – Campy Trails, Sunset Point Paper (35356) – Campy Trails, Silver Lake Trail Paper (35346) – Campy Trails, Campy Trails Medium Brads (85537) – Elements, Campy Trails Large Brads (85124) – Elements, Hot Dog (89397) – Ribbon, Hike (42190) – Remarks, River (78044) – Details

“This mini layout is 8x8” and I had so much fun scrapping this using all supplies from the Campy Trails line. My little boy went for a nature walk, hopping around and breathing the fresh air in the nature. That’s simply life and he enjoyed himself very much. I put this mini layout on an easel to be displayed at his desk."
Goodness gracious card Supplies: White (71081) – Cardstock, Sunset Point Paper (35356) – Campy Trails, Appleton Cove Paper (35348) – Campy Trails, Big Pine Creek Paper (35369) – Campy Trails, Gee Golly (42192) – Remarks, Hot Dog (89397) – Ribbon, Bow Tie (89398) – Ribbon, Primaries Medium Eyelets (85465) – Elements

“I was invited to a crop party and I intended to bring a gift to the host. Therefore I made this mini little card with special note to thank the host for the friendship. Cheers! I like the gold ribbon very much. Do try to make this 3x3” mini quick little card and it’s useful to tag along to our food or beverages goodies.”

A tutorial you'll turn to time and time again will appear tomorrow!

Combined with some crazy photos of me and my bestie, what could be better? The title of this layout makes me giggle even now and has turned into one of my very favorite layouts.

Pooi shares, “The Peachy Keen collection is one of my favourite lines which features soft pastel colours. The line's vintage flair appeals to everybody and is just so lovely. I used white cardstock as the base of these cards and simply matched with the scraps of my Peachy Keen papers that I’ve kept aside. Next I added little touches such as the Remarks stickers, Details embelishments, decorative brads, or ribbons. VIOLA, all three were done in less than an hour! These simple and easy to make cards are all ready to be sent out anytime to loved ones and friends."

Sarah says, "One of my favorite American Craft lines is Peachy Keen. I love the soft palette of colors portrayed in the papers. Every time I look at the color scheme of these papers, I think 'gentle' and 'free-spirited'. As a matter of fact, it reminds me of a sweet, afternoon wedding! I also like that it's slightly vintage with a twist of modernism. It's versatile, and you can use it for all occasions. For instance, I created three everyday cards using this collection."

My Favorites week wraps up tomorrow as well as the announcement of the winner of their favorite line!

Guest Designer of the Week: Sarah Webb

Guest Designer of the Week
This week we're showcasing the wonderful talent of Sarah Webb!

Bio-pic From favorite design elements and subjects to techniques and product, Sarah gives you a glimpse of her favorites with the following layouts, cards, and fun unique project!

AC-layout1 Supplies: White (71081) - Cardstock, Easy as Pie Paper (35393) - Peachy Keen, My Darling Paper (35390) - Peachy Keen, Dear Borders (53176) - Thickers, Doll Black (53168) - Thickers, Reinforced Decorative Tags (85543) - Bits, Super Swell (42193) - Remarks, Confetti Patterned Buttons (85530) - Elements, Strip Glue Runner (61712) - This to That, Dimensional Dots (61709) - This to That

"One of my favorite design elements is grids. There are so many different ways to use or add a grid to a page. I decided that I would use triangles for my grid and would  build the page once I had my grid down. I like the grid off to one side, it gives the design element a different spin. This also happens to be one of my most recent favorite pictures of our daughter. Suddenly so grown up!"
AC-card1 Supplies: Cedar River Trails Paper (35359) - Campy Trails, Spree Paper (35400) - Hello Sunshine, Holy Moly Paper (35391) - Peachy Keen, Peanut Butter Benny Paper (35322) - Confetti, Cake (78042) - Details, Strip Glue Runner (61712) - This to That

"I really enjoy felt embellishments for making cards because they provide a quick and easy focal point. I simply used the colors in the cupcake as cues to build the card." AC-layout2 Supplies: Apricot (71031) - Cardstock, White (71081) - Cardstock, Empanada Paper (35429) - Margarita, Merengue Paper (35438) - Margarita, Guacamole Paper (35437) - Margarita, Havana Paper (35435) - Margarita, Journaling Cards (64010) - JustWrite, Iguana Azure (53192) - Thickers, Confetti Patterned Buttons (85530) - Elements, Super Swell (42193) - Remarks,Strip Glue Runner (61712) - This to That, Dimensional Dots (61709) - This to That

"These are favorite pictures of our little guy. The color of the pictures was terrible, no computer program was going to save these shots, but converting them to black and white did. As soon as I saw the bright orange (little man's favorite color), I knew that these black and white photos would suit the bright colors of the Margarita line, perfectly!"
AC -layout3 Supplies: Kraft (71464) - Cardstock, Vanilla (71041) - Cardstock, Gossamer Paper (35409) - Hello Sunshine, Spree Paper (35400) - Hello Sunshine, Cedar River Trails Paper (35359) - Campy Trails, Caribou Creek Paper (35351) - Campy Trails, Havana Paper (35435) - Margarita, Chestnut Serenade (53153) - Thickers, Iguana Azure (53192) - Thickers, Reinforced Decorative Tags (85534) - Bits, Campy Trails Fabric Brads (85535) - Elements, Strip Glue Runner (61712) - This to That, Dimensional Dots (61709) - This to That

"Another favorite design of mine is stacking three pictures. I love a series of pictures that really captures a moment or an experience. Our little guy could not resist the little pond on the deck at a friend's house. The Campy Trails Bits tags were perfect to add some color and visual interest."

AC-card2 Supplies: Raspberry (71019) - Cardstock, Vanilla (71041) - Cardstock, Merengue Paper (35438) - Margarita, Empanada Paper (35429) - Margarita, Guacamole Paper (35437) - Margarita, Margarits Printed Variety Tags (85552) - Bits, Strip Glue Runner (61712) - This to That, Dimensional Dots (61709) - This to That

"I think that it is always fun to receive a brightly colored card in the mail. The Margarita line was perfect for creating a simple, general card. I used the bits tag as my focal point for building this card."
ACaltered item -Doll1 ACaltered item -Doll2 Supplies: Neat-O Paper (35392) - Peachy Keen, Holy Moly Paper (35391) - Peachy Keen, Made in the Shade Paper (35379) - Peachy Keen, Bow Tie (89398) - Ribbon, Peachy Keen Plastic Rose Brads (85539) - Elements, Dawn (58620) - Ribbon, Cedar River Trails Paper (35359) - Campy Trails, Strip Glue Runner (61712) - This to That, Dimensional Dots (61709) - This to That

"My Mom is super creative. Growing up, my favorite creations to watch her make were dolls. I thought I would try my hand at a doll. The head is a Styrofoam ball, with strips of paper hot-glued to it. The hardest part was figuring out the arms. I rolled paper and trimmed it to look like sleeves (it took four tries to get it right!)."

Here's a little bit about Sarah to get to know her even better:

How did you get started scrapbooking?
I started in 2005, after our daughter was born. I needed a new creative outlet (quilting was too long and involved) and I wanted to be able to preserve some of those everyday moments. I discovered the online scrapping world in 2008 and have been hooked ever since!

What would you say your scrapbooking “style” is?
That's always a tough question to answer. I would describe my style as simple with artsy touches. I love white space and pops of bright color. I tend towards multiphoto layouts.

What is your favorite technique?
Right now I am loving twine, mist, and stitching. I mostly enjoy techniques that add little details and finishing touches.

When do you find time to scrap?
I work full time so I scrap in the evening after the kids go to bed or on the weekends. We gave up TV so that we would have time for other things, so instead of watching TV, I am on the computer at scrappy spots or I am creating.

On average, how long does it take you to complete a project?
It can take me around an hour and a half and sometimes two hours to finish a layout. I don't often finish anything in one sitting as I am often interrupted ;) It also depends on how well I have developed the ideas in my head.

What is your favorite thing about American Crafts?
I love the 3D foam dots and of course, Thickers. I also love the Flair badges!

Stop on by Sarah's blog for a whole bunch of scrappy goodness!

My Favorite Mini Paper Flower Bouquet Tutorial

Leslie Ashe created this adorable "Favorite Mini Paper Flower Bouquet" step-by-step photo tutorial especially for you today!

LeslieSupplies: Dainty Paper (35404) – Hello Sunshine, Brilliance Paper (35415) – Hello Sunshine, Radiant Paper (35396) – Hello Sunshine, Frolic Paper (35403) – Hello Sunshine, Glimmer Paper (35407) – Hello Sunshine, Delight Paper (35399) – Hello Sunshine, Leaf (71052) – Cardstock, Smores (89396) – Ribbon, 1 1/2” Rose - Peony (58241) – Ribbon, Pina Colada (72013) – Delights, Dear Lizzy Plastic Rose Brads (85522) – Elements, The Classics Large Fabric Brads (85500) – Elements, City Park Buttons (85518) – Elements; Other: tiny watering can (measures:  2” high, 4” wide from handle to spout), popsicle sticks, styrofoam (cut in small pieces to hold popsicle sticks in place

Leslie remarks, "I love all things 'mini.' Be it cards, presents (yes!), or just little greetings, like this mini flower bouquet. It was so fun to re-create one of my favorite techniques of making flowers from scallop circle punches (from an earlier layout) into this bouquet. I even used one of my very favorite American Crafts lines: Hello Sunshine. I hope you enjoy re-creating this tiny bouquet for yourselves... it’s so easy!

Before we get started with making our flowers – measure, cut, and place styrofoam inside your watering can the exact way you want it. This will depend on the size popsicle sticks you use (mine were mini, so my styrofoam is right at the top of the can)

1) Using two different sized scallop circle punches, punch enough circles to make (3) three layered flowers (so six medium circles, three small circles).
AC-12) Using either your trimmer or scissors, cut some small strips of green cardstock (this will be your grass). The cut doesn’t have to be perfect.
AC - 23) Crinkle your small strips of cardstock.
AC - 3 4) Place the crinkled strips inside the watering can as grass. You can use glue if you want to make sure it will stay in place.
AC - 4 5) Crinkle up your flowers - this will give them a fun dimensional effect.
AC -5 6) Using 3D adhesive, adhere your flowers from smallest to largest in a layer of three. AC - 6 7) Attach a button, brad, or jewel in center of your flowers then adhere them to the sticks. Tie ribbons around the handle.  AC - 78) Adhere a flower to the spout of your watering can.  AC - 89) Enjoy your creation!  AC - 9 flowers This little bouquet would look so cute displayed on a shelf or mantle or given as a gift to a special friend or teacher!

Another spectacular guest designer makes her debut tomorrow!

Melanie states, "Amy Tangerine’s new Silhouette shapes are adorable and I decided to use them with the Pow! glitter paper to make these cards. It cuts like a charm in the Silhouette, and I love how graphic and simple they look. The camera card is a new fave of mine. :)"
Relax card (1 of 1) Supplies: 8 1/2x11 White (71273) - Cardstock, Tango Paper (35422) - Margarita, Sunkissed (43391) - Minimarks, Paradise (42198) - Minimarks

"I have been meaning to make a mini album of our trip from last fall for some time and when I first saw the Campy Trails line, I knew it was perfect! I used an acrylic and chipboard calendar kit with a stand for this album. I painted the edges of the acrylic covers with a mossy green paint and then inked with a brown ink. I really wanted the photo of the brightly colored tree over the water to stand out, so I used it behind the acrylic. The inside pages have a fairly simple format: each open set of pages is covered with patterned paper and I used a contrasting paper for a border on the left side, which I punched. On some of the pages I used a chipboard border instead. In between each set of pages I added a tag where I did my journaling on the back. The tabs on the bottom of each page were covered with some of the barcode patterned paper strips."

AC-Aloha Supplies: Vanilla (71041) - Cardstock, Flamenco Paper (35419) - Margarita, Cha-Cha Paper (35428) - Margarita, Mojito Paper (35423) - Margarita, San Juan Paper (35439) - Margarita, Wolf Creek Paper (35362) - Campy Trails

"When I saw the Cha-Cha paper, it reminded me of umbrellas at the beach. I wanted to make them a bit 3-D, so I scored them and folded them to make them pleat and stand off the card a little. I misted the sand and sky with spray inks, and used some toothpicks for the umbrella poles! The beach towels are one of the barcode patterned paper strips."

AC-Wish-You-Were-Here Supplies: Vanilla (71041) - Cardstock, Elk Creek Trail Paper (35354) - Campy Trails, Silver Lake Trail Paper (35346) - Campy Trails, Pine Borders (53167) - Thickers, Postcards (64009) - JustWrite

"The Campy Trails JustWrite journaling cards have some great phrases on them! I used two of the same JustWrite card and cut out the mountains on the 2nd one and popped them on top of the first card to give it dimension. The chipboard tree border is also popped off a bit. I hand cut the little stars and added some glitter glue here and there for some sparkle."

Luggage-tags Supplies: Cozumel Paper (35420), Flamenco Paper (35419), Mambo Paper (35424), Guacamole Paper (35437) - Margarita, Printed Long Variety Tags (85553) - Bits, Retreat (42200) - Remarks, Hammock (89399) - Ribbon

"When I think of the Margarita collection and the Campy Trails collection, I think of vacation! So I decided to make some simple, fun luggage tags that would be durable enough to withstand travel conditions. I started with an 8x8” page protector, folded it in half and creased it. Then I machine stitched on both sides of the crease, along the bottom, and up the side, leaving the top open as a pocket. I then cut the page protector down the crease to create two 4x8” pockets (which I ended up trimming down) to about 4x5” pockets). I simply cut some patterned paper to fit inside the pocket and decorated one side with paper and phrases. I did not add anything bulky because I wanted it to be flat.  On the back side of the paper I added a sticker where I can write my contact information. I punched some holes in the page protector and threaded ribbon through to tie it to the bag. Wouldn’t this make a great, simple project to do with kids right before you go on vacation? Or maybe you could customize a tag and give it as a gift to surprise someone with a trip!"

How-we-spent-our-sumer-staySupplies: Kraft (71464) - Cardstock, Mambo Paper (35424) - Margarita, Havana Paper (35435) - Margarita, Guava Paper (35427) - Margarita, Paradise (62198) - Remarks, Retreat (42200) - Remarks, Hammock (89399) - Ribbon, Macaw White (53186) - Thickers

"We were expecting baby #2 in late July or early August (he was born on July 19th!), so this really limited our travel plans for the summer. We had to find some creative, yet cool things to do to beat the Houston heat! So this page is about our summer 'staycation.' We go to The Little Gym and library weekly and it helps that we have a pool in our backyard to help us stay cool!"

Ahh...soak-up-the-sunSupplies: Horchata Paper (35432) - Margarita, Cha-Cha Paper (35428) - Margarita, Cedar River Trail Paper (35359) - Campy Trails, Margarita Diamond Brads (85549) - Elements, Printed Long Variety Tags (85553) - Bits, Retreat (42200) - Remarks, Paradise (62198) - Remarks, Cabana (78051) - Details, Pina Colada (72013) - Delights, Iguana Azure (53192) - Thickers

"This photo was taken on the dock of my parent's cottage in central New York. The wood of the deck inspired me to use the woodgrain paper as my background. I wanted to mimic the feel of small drops of water splashing from the waves, so I used bits of white paint on the background. There are also tiny sequins scattered on the page from the Delights. I hand cut out the waves and added a 2nd layer that was popped up on top of the first."

Summer-11Supplies: White (71081) - Cardstock, Stumpy Meadow Paper (35347) - Campy Trails, Cozumel Paper (35420) - Margarita, Empanada Paper (35429) - Margarita, Flamenco Paper (35419) - Magarita, Pina Colada (72013) - Delights, Campy Trails Large Brads (85124) - Elements, Macaw White (53186) - Thickers

"Every summer we travel back home to central New York to enjoy the Finger Lakes and the St. Lawrence River. I always do a page about our summer trip (which we took very early this year). I printed a few small photos of some highlights of the trip and used them on this page. I wanted to keep the design a bit more simple since the photos were smaller and had a lot of detail. The Macaw Thickers were actually white, but I wanted a bit more color, so I sprayed them with some mist."

Audrey filled out some questions about her scrapbooking background and here are her responses:

How did you get started scrapbooking?
I started scrapbooking in 2005 after I had a fantastic Halloween costume party at my house. I had so many photos that I wanted to make an album to showcase them all. After my trip to the scrapbooking aisle of my local craft store, I was hooked!

What would you say your scrapbooking “style” is?
I think my style tends to be “trendy”. I like to use the latest and greatest products and try new techniques. Although I like to try new things all the time, there are some elements that you can see on almost all my pages: machine or hand stitching, a strong “rule of threes”, and a thin black pen that I use for outlining photos and handwriting my journaling. I tend to scrap by manufacturer, using coordinating lines.

When do you find time to scrap?
I “think” about scrapping every day! I actually get to spend a little bit of time each night scrapping after the little one goes to bed. I am a complete night owl and am up most nights until 1 or 2 am! I try to keep a notebook with all kinds of lists and ideas which helps me get things done when I need to.

On average, how long does it take you to complete a project?
I would say that my average layout takes me about 2-3 hours. That includes editing and printing my photos, which I do at home.

What is your favorite thing about American Crafts?
My favorite thing about American Crafts is the diversity of products there are to use… chipboard, stickers, papers, Details… not to mention things like punches, cardstock, and adhesives! But I am a paper hoarder, and the first thing I look at are all the different patterns. Each AC line has so many different pattern, and it’s not hard to find a whole bunch that I love!

Audrey always has tons of fabulous projects on her blog so make sure to stop by for a visit!

Travel Journal Tutorial

Who wants to learn how to make this super cute mini travel journal? Well you're in luck because Cindy Tobey has created a step-by-step photo tutorial to show you how!

Cindy Supplies: 12x12 Cardstock Vanilla (71041) - AC Cardstock, 12x12 Cardstock Apricot (71031) - AC Cardstock, 12x12 Cardstock Rocky Road (71466) - AC Cardstock, 12x12 Cardstock Dandelion (71037) - AC Cardstock, Powder Point Camp Paper (35368) - Campy Trails, Appleton Cove Paper (35348) - Campy Trails, Campy Trails Journaling Cards (64009) - JustWrite, Squirrel (77250) - Patchems, Campy Trails Decorative Tags (85534) - Bits, Hot Dog (89397) - Ribbon, Campy Trails Assorted Brads (85535) - Elements, Campy Trails Buttons (85536) - Elements

"It always takes me quite a while to scrapbook my photos after a vacation and sometimes when I finally do scrapbook them I've forgotten many of the details. The solution is of course to write down those details while on vacation. Rather than just bring a notebook along I thought it would be fun to create a little album of journaling cards. I can write my thoughts on them during my trip and when it comes time to scrapbook my vacation the journaling is not only done, but already on journaling cards that I can put right on my layouts! Another plus is that this little book is reusable. Once I remove the journaling cards for my layouts I can refill the book so it’s ready for my next trip! Here's how you can make your own journaling book:"

1) Trim four sheets of earth-toned cardstock to 6 x 12", stack them together and fold them in half, open the papers then stitch or staple them together down the center. Trim the pages to 6 x 4 1/4".

Travel-Journal-Steps-Pic-1 2) Trim a piece of wool felt, leather, or upholstery fabric (something that will be sturdy) to 6 1/4 x 11 1/4". Trace a shaped journaling card along the edge of the felt and trim.

Travel-Journal-Steps-Pic-2 3) Machine or hand-stitch – to add detail to your cover – 1/4 inch from the edge, all the way around the felt. Cut a button hole and add a button to the felt. Secure the pages to the cover by tying with twine as shown.

Travel-Journal-Steps-Pic-4 4) Add journaling cards with removable adhesive (so they are easy to remove later) to the pages. Add some small tags with twine and staples for smaller amounts of journaling.

Travel-Journal-Steps-Pic-5 5) Add some mini paper bags and pockets for ephemera collected on your vacation. I created some library style pockets with cardstock. You can easily make these in any size you want. For mini paper bags, if you don't have any premade ones, you could make your own from larger paper bags.
Travel-Journal-Steps-Pic-66) Decorate the cover as desired, I chose ribbons and a cute Patchem.

Travel-Journal That's it! Your little journaling book is ready to take on your next getaway!

Round Week Wrap Up!

To wrap up Round Week, Jennifer Gallacher and Jenny Chesnick have each created a layout and card that will dazzle you!Jennifer Supplies: Charcoal (71077) - Cardstock, White (71081) - Cardstock, Kraft (71464) - Cardstock, Banana (71502) - Cardstock, Big Pine Creek Paper (35369) – Campy Trails, You’re a Peach Paper (35381) – Peachy Keen, Jitter Paper (35373) – Peachy Keen, Peachy KeenCorduroy Brads (85538) – Elements, Twist (72008) – Delights, Gee Golly (42192) – Remarks, Audrey (42191) – Remarks, Grosgrain (58462) - Ribbon

Jennifer shares, "I like creating 8 ½ x 11” layouts so to fit inside my scrapbooks I created a circular layout that is about 8” wide. To create the scalloped edge around the layout, I punched out enough 1 3/8” circles to cover the back of the paper. This is a quick and easy way to create scalloped circles. For the card I die cut two pinked circles. I folded the top of one of them about ¼” from the top and then attached the other pinked circle to this folded edge. This creates a front and back of the card. I added the 'Oh So Dandy' sticker with adhesive foam squares so that it would stick out just a little."

Jenny Supplies: Santo Domingo Paper (35430) - Margarita, Pico De Gallo Paper (35426) - Margarita, Salsa Paper (35421) - Margarita, Mojito Paper (35426) - Margarita, Cabana (78051) - Details, Daylight (78048) - Details, Refreshing (42199) - Remarks, Sapphire (74074) - Cardstock, White (71081) - Cardstock, Brown .05 (62326) - Precision Pen; Other supplies: Silhouette SD

Chesnick-august-circles-cardSupplies: Calypso Paper (35433) - Margarita, Refreshing (42199) - Remarks, White (71081) - Cardstock, Sapphire (74074) - Cardstock, Margarita Flower Brads (85550) - Elements, Bows (87648) - Ribbon; Other supplies: Silhouette SD

Jenny confesses, "When I scrapbook, I rarely ever use a circle believe it or not! So I tried to come up with a more clever way to do so. Using my Silhouette I cut out rectangle shapes to create a sort of sun spray of color for my layout. For the card I created a beach ball! I decided to go with non-traditional colors because that just makes it much more fun. Margarita is so bright and bold I just love how the colors blend together to make some fabulous projects!"

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your lovely comments! Have a great weekend and see you back here again for a fresh new week of fun on Monday!

Guest Designer of the Week: Julie Bonner

Guest Designer of the Week2
Our next fabulous guest designer is Julie Bonner!

Me She created three layouts, two cards, and one ultra cute frame, and on each of them you'll find a round element to go along with the theme of the week!

Ac1Supplies: White (71081) - Cardstock, Stumpy Meadow Paper (35347) - Campy Trails, Big Pine Creek Paper (35369) - Campy Trails, Powder Point Camp Paper (35368) - Campy Trails, Twin Lakes Paper (35360) - Campy Trails, Gossamer Paper (35409) - Hello Sunshine, Notecards (64009) - Justwrite, Super Swell (42193) - Remarks, Hike (42190) - Remarks, Good Morning (42194) - Remarks, Peachy Keen Buttons (85541) - Elements, Pine Borders (53167) - Thickers, River (78044) - Details, Rootbeer Float Brown (42734) - Thickers, Forest Kale (53161) - Thickers, Meadow Mediterranean (53165) - Thickers, Tangerine Medium Brads (85083) - Elements, Carrot Mini Brads (8479) - Elements

"I LOVE title work and the mix of fonts and colors that Thickers come in always offers so many fun possibilities. Here I used three different Thickers and separated them with little rows of colored brads. This is a great way to add a little structure to title work positioned in white space on your page. Also, you might notice the fun decorative frame around the picture. I loved the look of the postcard-edged journaling card in the JustWrite Journaling Cards, but it wasn't large enough to frame my picture. So I decided to overlap two cards and adhere the photo on top. Then I went back amd embellished a bit where the two cards met."

Ac6Supplies: White (71081) - Cardstock, Thing of Beauty Paper (35370) - Peach Keen, Cool Cat Paper (35389) - Peachy Keen, Jitter Paper (35373) - Peachy Keen, Peachy Keen Decorative Tags (85543) - Bits, Super Swell(42193) - Remarks, Lovely Lady (78047) - Details

"I fully admit to not being the most experienced card maker, however using the American Crafts Details embellishments was a super easy way to add some serious 'pizzazz' to my card with little work on my own part. The flowers layered upon each other, along with a tag and sticker sentiment, created a fun cluster of eye candy on this simple circle card."

Ac2Supplies: White (71081) - Cardstock, Nifty Paper (35386) - Peachy Keen, Holy Moly Paper (35391) - Peachy Keen, No Sweat Paper (38378) - Peachy Keen, Sweet On You Paper (35374) - Peachy Keen, Easy Peasy Paper (35382) - Peachy Keen, Lovely Lady (78047) - Details, Charming Chap (78046) - Details, Peachy Keen Buttons (85541) - Elements, Good Afternoon (42195) - Remarks, Good Morning (42194) - Remarks, Super Swell (42193) - Remarks, Peachy Keen Decorative Tags (85543) - Bits, Peachy Keen Corduroy Brads (85538) - Elements, Text Ash (42982) - Thickers, Sunrise Geranium (53178) - Thickers, Meadow Popcorn (53166) - Thickers

"I seldom get pics of myself with my children because like many other scrapbookers out there, I seem to be the one behind the camera all the time :) Recently I have made a better attempt at using the timer on my camera and was able to get some cute pics of my son and I. I had fun with this layout, adding bits and pieces of embellishments here and there, and also a few pops of pink to brighten up the yellow and grey color scheme. You may notice my faux stitched border around the circle. While I love sewing on layouts, sometimes a hand-drawn border can be just as effective. To create this circle border, I drew a circle with breaks in it every few inches. Then I went back and drew in some zigzags. This is an easy way to add the look of a bit of stitching, without actually having to break out that sewing machine or your needle :)"

Ac5Supplies: White (71081) - Cardstock, Buttercream Bobby Paper (35338) - Confetti, Holly Hazelnut Paper (35323) - Confetti, Frankie Fudge Paper (35342) - Confetti, Red Velvet Richie (35340) - Confetti, Cake (78042) - Details, Pinata (42187) - Remarks

"I couldn't resist using one of the American Crafts felt cupcakes on a card!!! I used the cupcake as my focal point and mounted it on a scalloped circle backing. The first scalloped circle is a punch, but to create the second I simply adhered my pink circle to brown paper. Then I used my old school decorative scissors (from my early days of scrapbooking) to cut around the pink circle. This gave me a nice thin scalloped circle border around the pink circle. So if you have any of these in your stash, be sure to break them out - they are great for adding some small decorative touches here and there!"

Ac3Supplies: White (71081) - Cardstock, Cool Cat Paper (35389) - Peachy Keen, Timberline Resort Paper (35357) - Campy Trails, Glimmer Paper (35407) - Hello Sunshine, Good Afternoon (42195) - Remarks, Good Morning (42194) - Remarks, Super Swell (42193) - Remarks, Sunbeam (72011) - Delights, Just Dandy (82304) - Mementos, Hello Sunshine Decorative Tags (85547) - Bits, Sunrise Limeade (53179) - Thickers, Peachy Keen Buttons (85541) - Elements, Peachy Keen Corduroy Brads (85538) - Elements, Hello Sunshine Pearl Brads (85545) - Elements

"This picture of my son and my husband just melts my heart. I knew I wanted to showcase it on a layout with papers and embellishments that felt soft and airy - yet still masculine. I chose a mix of greens, blues, and greys for the papers and added in a few embellishments that coordinated. I had a bit of fun with the large circle in this layout - I made the frame a bit offset, becoming thinner towards the picture. Also, I used some brown paper and my decorative scissors to add some scalloped edging around parts of the circle."

Ac4Supplies: Dreamy Paper (35385) - Peachy Keen, Mother Always Says Paper (35388) - Peachy Keen, Fancy Free Paper (35377) - Peachy Keen, Nifty Paper (35386) - Peachy Keen, Easy Peasy Paper (35382) - Peachy Keen, Good Golly Gee Paper (35375) - Peachy Keen, Peachy Keen Buttons (85541) - Elements, Lullaby Charcoal (42597) - Thickers

"I am a HUGE collector of quotes and poems. I think it all stems back to my mother who loves them as well, and has always seemed to find just the right one for me when I have needed it. Over the years we have shared many with one another and one of my favorite things to do is to display them in frames. Although this project was simple, I love how easily it showcases one of my favorite quotes. The sun was created with a circle, handcut rays, and a few buttons. Then I typed up the quote and added in some of the gorgeous Lullabye Thickers for the final word."

Here's a little questionairre Julie filled out for us for you!

How did you get started scrapbooking?
I've always been one to collect photos, ticket stubs, articles, postcards, etc. and store them in albums - but it wasn't until after my wedding that I actually created a scrapbook as we know them today. Armed with just a few simple supplies, I created three scrapbooks of our wedding for ourselves and our parents. When our first son was born a few years later, I became totally addicted to the hobby and just threw myself into creating on a regular basis :)

What would you say your scrapbooking “style” is?
I think overall my style is simple and structured. I do like to add a bit of layered embellishing here and there, but I think my layouts always possess a balance to the overall design. Before I create a layout I always sketch out my layout idea on paper or in my head. I piece together the entire layout, tweaking things a bit. Then, if everything seems to flow right, I adhere everything down.

What is your favorite technique?

I love to try new techniques and am constantly changing what my current favorite is. Right now I LOVE the look of stitching on my layouts, whether I hand-stitch, machine-stitch, or simply do a bit of faux stitching.

When do you find time to scrap?
I am definitely a late night scrapper and can easily work until the wee hours if I am really enjoying a project. With two kiddos under the age of five, very little gets done during the day except being mommy :) I love the little "me time" at the end of the evening when I can work in my scrap room and enjoy a bit of creative freedom.

On average, how long does it take you to complete a project?
Definitely a whole evening at least, which for me is probably 4 to 5 hours. Although my layouts aren't overwhelmingly detailed, I do spend quite a bit of time exploring the design of the page and playing around with all the elements on the page.

What is your favorite thing about American Crafts?
Hmm... that's easy - THICKERS!!! I have two HUGE drawers of them - one full of colored Thickers and the other full of neutrals. I am a HUGE fan of fonts and typography!!!

Stop by Julie's blog to say hello and check out her awesome designs!

"Give" Embroidery Hoop Tutorial by Amy Tan

Amy Tan (of the new American Crafts + Amy Tangerine line!) is here today to show you how to create this cute "GIVE" embroidery hoop with a step-by-step photo turorial!

AmyAmerican Craft Supplies: Live & Love (77257) - Patchems, Dot Glue Runner (61713) - This to That, Audrey Font (42192) - Remarks

Lately the trend towards framing with embroidery hoops has been all over design blogs. Here's a simple way to create something in under 10 minutes that you can display on the wall.

1) Gather your materials. I used muslin, which is a very versatile (and inexpensive) fabric that can easily be altered

Give1 2) Cut a piece of the fabric that is at least 2 inches bigger than the hoop.
Give2 3) Put paper towels or a mat underneath your fabric and begin inking the middle area.
Give3 4) Once you get the coverage you desire, let it dry in the sunshine or by using a blow dryer.
Give4 5) Once dry, adhere your Patchem to the center of the inked space.
Give6 6) Then add your letter stickers.
Give7 Give8 7) Secure the fabric in to the hoop centering around the embellished area.
Give9 8) Turn the hoop over and trim the excess fabric.
Give9a 9) All done and ready for hanging to cuten up your scrap space or give to a friend!
Give9b The perfect gift created in under 10 minutes - now there's a project I can jump on board with!

Becky says, "In the past I'd heard nothing but good things about Nutella, the yummy hazelnut chocolate spread, but hadn't tried it yet. Once I tasted it though I was hooked and it became an almost-daily obsession. I couldn't help but scrapbook about this fun little detail in my life. To create the base of this layout I simply used a die cut scalloped circle for my template, cut it out, and then added some white doodling around the edge."

Roundcardbecky Supplies: Suzie Strawberry Paper (35330) - Confetti, Cherry Chip Paper (35336) - Confetti, Surprise (42185) - Remarks, Confetti Decorative Tags (85533) - Bits, Presents (78043) - Details, Musical Chairs (42188) - Remarks, 3D Foam Tabs (61710) - This to That, Meadow Black (53163) - Thickers

"For this card I used a die cut circle as a template, making sure that part of the circle overlapped the fold of the paper, and then cut a circle slightly smaller for the front of the card."
JenSupplies: 12x12 Cardstock White (71081) - AC Cardstock, 12x12 Cardstock Apricot (71031) - AC Cardstock, 12x12 Cardstock Carrot (71032) - AC Cardstock, Baby Doll Paper (35384) - Peachy Keen, Flamenco Paper (35419) - Margarita, My Darling Paper (35390) - Peachy Keen, Cheer Parrot (53154) - Thickers, Piñata (42187) - Remarks, Dimensional Dots Adhesive (61709) - This to That, Confetti Patterned Buttons (85530) - Elements, Pastels Round Buttons (85436) - Elements, Decorative Tape (61734) - Mixtape, Specialty Ribbon Spool (58232) - AC Ribbon, Black .01 Precision Pen (62301) - AC Pens and Markers

Jen fills us in, "My assignment this month was to create a round card and a round layout. I made this card for a bridal shower my daughter was attending for her preschool teacher. We added the tag and then just tied it to the handles of a gift bag, it looked really cute! The layout was a little bit trickier. I knew I wanted a scalloped edge, but I didn't have any pre made scalloped circle bases, so I cut a piece of cardstock using a bowl as a template, and then punched a bunch of 1 inch circles, cut them in half, and adhered them to the back to create my own scalloped edge."

Great tips and techniques from Becky and Jen! The fun continues tomorrow!

5+ Photos Wrap Up!

Weekly Wrap-Up Congratulations to the randomly selected winner of their favorite new line, Erica Hettwer:

Summer 2011 Logos Screen Shot 2011-08-05 at 8.05.26 AM We enjoyed hearing what your favorite new line is and are overwhelmed by your love for the new Amy Tangerine line!

To wrap up 5+ Photos week, Michelle Lanning and Amy Tan have created a couple more 5+ photos layouts:

Michelle Supplies: Dandy Paper (35397) - Hello Sunshine, Dainty Paper (35404) - Hello Sunshine, Peppy Paper (35405) - Hello Sunshine, Kraft (71464) - Cardstock, Sunbeam (72011) - Delights, Good Morning (42194) - Remarks, Merry Spinach (53100) - Thickers, Subway Powder (42920) - Thickers

Michelle tells, "For this layout I kept the patterned paper to a minimum and used it instead as embellishments to my layout. I made sure to ground my layout by using the patterned paper across the length of the layout."
AmySupplies: Here and There Paper (35562) - Amy Tangerine, Rose Ave Paper (35551) - Amy Tangerine, Scatter Sunshine Paper (35554) - Amy Tangerine, Lovely Straw (53243) - Thickers, Amy Tangerine Shaped Paper Clips (85566) - Elements, Amy Tangerine Fabric Brads (85567) - Elements, Die Cut Cardstock Shapes (77259) - Bits, Amy (42242) - Remarks, Good Times (42213) - Remarks

Amy advises, "There are lots of software and app options that make it easier to get multiple photos onto a page. I used Snapfish to store and print my photos. They have a neat photo collage option where you can choose as many photos as you want (up to 20) and the size you want the print to be, and they arrange it for you. It's so easy and cost effective."

We've gathered a bunch of tips and tricks from our featured designers this week for working with 5+ photos:

Marcy Penner
says, "I struggle with using more than one or two photos on a page. I really like to have some white space on my pages. (And 2-pagers are even harder for me!) When I have a lot of photos I want to use I find that printing them in a smaller size allows me to have the best of both worlds. A series of photos and room to tell the story and embellish."
 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Cindy Tobey says, "Place your photos in a grid design. Create a flip book of photos and attach to your page. Add a pocket to your page to place extra photos into."

Michelle Lanning says, "Something that helps me when creating a 2 page layout is to use similar sized photos. All that I printed at 4x6 and it made it much easier to place in the two page layout."

Céline Navarro says, "When you want to make a multi photo layout, I encourage you to print your photos rather small (1x2" is perfect) so that you can use as many photos as you want! Think of fun themes: a day at the beach, your everyday life, the best of your last trip. Make a photo mosaic on Photoshop or any other program that you have on your computer!

Sarah de Guzman says, "When trying to add more photos, cropping them helps out a lot! You can definitely fit more with wallet-sized photos. Use a 1-2" circle punch. Make sure you're punching out the main focus of each of your photos. You'll be able to fit a handful of photos onto one page."
 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Amy Tan says, "Especially for events, it's nice to have a variety of photos. From close up shots to the entire scene and people, it's fun to experiment with different small sizes to really tell the story."

We hope you've enjoyed seeing how you can incorporate lots of photos on your layouts to showcase your speical memories! A brand new week of fun and inspiration continues right here again on Monday!

Even More 5+ Photos Layouts

Suzy Plantamura and Poki Nobeno each have a layout with 5+ photos today:

Suzy Supplies: Splendor Paper (35401) - Hello Sunshine, Delicate Paper (35413) - Hello Sunshine, Jitter Paper (35373) - Peachy Keen, Serenade Strawberry (53151) - Thickers, Daylight (78048) - Details, Love Mini Pearl Brads (85508) - Elements, Damsel (43387) - Minimarks

Suzy shares, "I love putting a lot of photos on my layouts so I usually make all my layouts two pages so I can really cover an event. I wanted to make a one page layout of these photos I just took of Sophie because I thought it would be fun to hang in a frame in her room. I sized my favorite photo to be 5x7 and the other four to be wallet sized (2.5 x 3.8). This allowed me to get five photos on the one page layout, so I was very happy! I cut several circles out of yellow paper and arranged them to frame the photos, tucking some underneath them. I kept the embellishments simple so the focus stayed on the photos. The Splendor paper was just perfect for the background of this layout because the pattern is similar to the pattern on the garage door!"

PokiSupplies: Dandy Paper (35397) - Hello Sunshine, Frolic Paper (35403) - Hello Sunshine, Glow Paper (35408) - Hello Sunshine, Zippy Paper (35411) - Hello Sunshine, Dreamy Paper (35385) - Peachy Keen, Easy As Pie Paper (35393) - Peachy Keen, Good Golly (70068) - Flair, Slide (72004) - Delights, Love Buttons (85509) - Elements, Just Dandy (82304) - Mementos, Hello Sunshine Pearl Brads (85545) - Elements, Hello Sunshine Metal Rimmed Tags (85546) - Bits, Sunbeam (72011) - Delights, Macaw White (53186) - Thickers, Kraft (71464) - Cardstock

Poki says, "I made this to use a lot of photos in one layout. I cut all pieces of paper and photos into 3 inch squares and pasted them on 12 inch layout. To keep a neat figure, I pasted various expressions of my son's photos regularly. I recommend all of you to make this kind of layout because the process of it is very simple. Just decide the size to cut out the paper and the photos. Embellishments of American Crafts are so great,if you use them, trust me, your layout will be great looking!"

A couple more final 5+ photos layouts are in the works for tomorrow - plus the winner of their favorite new line will be announced!

He stopped to organize some leaves and spelt out 'Love Mom'. A little snuggling and he was back to normal. Tried as I might I couldn't get 'leaves' to work on this page so I added a woodgrain print mat to the photo instead. "I love banners. But I love using them in little pieces. I trimmed off the chipboard banner and used just a portion of it to underline my focal photo."

Marcy fills us in on a little bit more about her:

How did you get started scrapbooking?
I started scrapbooking shortly after my daughter was born (way back in 1999) but not with conventional supplies... just with little stickers, handdrawn titles, and four shades of solid colored copy paper! In 2002 I opened up my own scrapbook store and delved into all the fun products I could find. I really found my groove and style in 2008 and have gone at it hard-core ever since.

What would you say your scrapbooking “style” is?

Simple with a touch of whimsy and a bit of layering.

What is your favorite technique?
Sewing and using drops of mist (though that's not complicated enough to call a technique!)

When do you find time to scrap?
During the afternoons when the kids play or in the evenings. My kids are starting to go to bed later and later (and I'm getting older and older) so it's usually not too late into the night.

On average, how long does it take you to complete a project?
By looking at my pages you'd think they'd come together quite quickly, but they don't. Usually 1.5-2 hours per page probably.

What is your favorite thing about American Crafts?
I've loved American Crafts for a long time! I hoard the fabric Thickers like no one's business. I'm also hopelessly addicted to their papers and Flair!

Marcy's blog
is eye-catching and inspirational - make sure you stop by and say hi!

I knew that this paper was going to be perfect for a recent beach trip, so I made sure to snap a lot of photos. By using a variety of different sized photos, I was able to use five of my photos on one 12x12 layout. For my title, I cut out an image from the Just Write Journaling cards. Although it was intended for journaling, I used it as a title."

5+ Photos Week!

Screen Shot 2011-07-31 at 12.10.16 PM This week our talented design team is going to show you how to fit at least five pictures on a layout! Afterall, scrapbooking is about preserving memories, so why not try to fit as many photos of the event you're showcasing as possible?! First up: Céline Navarro and Cindy Tobey share their layouts with 5+ photos:

Ce´line Supplies: White (71081) - Cardstock, Salsa Paper (35421) - Margarita, Mariachi Paper (35440) - Margarita,
Sunrise Borders (53185) - Thickers, Paradise (42197) - Remarks, Refreshing (42199) - Remarks, Decorative Tags (85553) - Bits, Powder Subway (42920) - Thickers

Céline shares, "I love playing with Adobe Photoshop! After I chose 5 photos for my layout, I simply made a collage on an 8.5x11" document, put my photos at the bottom and printed them. After that, all the fun began! I played with the Margarita line as the colors were perfect for my colorful photos from San Francisco. I just left some white space in order not to overwhelm the eye too much."
Cindy Supplies: 12x12 Cardstock Marine (71071) - AC Cardstock, 12x12 Cardstock White (71081) - AC Cardstock, Empanada Paper (35429) - Margarita, Mambo Paper  (35424) - Margarita, Aruba Paper (35425) - Margarita, City Park (61733) - Mixtape, Sun Kissed (43391) - MiniMarks, Cabana (78051) - Details, Sadie (42174) - Remarks, Niki Riki Sunflower (53041) - Thickers, Denim (58210) - Ribbon, Sapphire (58209) - Ribbon, Beach Bound (70070) - Flair, Confetti Patterned Buttons (85530) - Elements, City Park Assorted Buttons (85518) - Elements, City Park Assorted Brads (85517) - Elements, Enchanted Assorted Brads (85521) - Elements, Margarita Flower Brads (85550) - Elements

In Cindy's words, “While it's fun to create a one photo layout, I really am more of a multi-photo scrapper. I love using several photos to tell my story. For this page I selected five successive shots showing my son running and jumping into our kiddy pool. I used patterned papers from the Margarita collection to create my hand-cut layered wave. After adding the wave to my page I simply tucked my photos behind the various layers.”

Stay tuned for our weekly giveaway plus even more ways to show off 5+ photos tomorrow!
