Soho Garden Guest Designer: Cathy Pascual
A big round of applause for the winner of the Soho Garden line, Kelly Oblak (please email me at acstudioblog@gmail.com to claim your prize!):
The Guest Designer for Soho Garden Week is Cathy Pascual!
Short bio: Cathy, designer and owner of Catshy Crafts, is a crafter at heart, memory keeper for life, and lover of handmade and DIY. Through her hand-crafted goods, photography, and paper and digital scrapbooking, she loves to celebrate the everyday and the special days of her life. She lives in a 1959 red rambler in the rainy Pacific Northwest with her indie game developer husband, two darling daughters, and calico cat.
How did you get started scrapbooking? I have always held on to bits of paper and ephemera, torn out magazine pages, and journaled from a young age. But it wasn't until I got married that I started taking photos more seriously. When I had kids, I became a full-blown scrapbooker, buying my first supplies from Lisa Bearnson on QVC!
What is your favorite American Crafts product? I love the patterned paper from American Crafts! It is graphic and colorful and so versatile.
ZARA LOVES ART by Cathy Pascual
I created my pinwheel flowers using a scoring tool and the centers of each flower were made by layering scalloped shapes I punched from the AC textured cardstock and then hand-sewed with a button. To keep the photos grouped and anchored together, I added two ribbons across the bottom as well as added bits of color around the edges.
Supplies: Greenwich Village Paper (35838) - Soho Garden, West Broadway Paper (35839) - Soho Garden, High Line Park Paper (35831) - Soho Garden, Lafayette Paper (35833) - Soho Garden, Soho Garden Stickers (42273) - Remarks, Soho Garden Alpha Stickers Red (42269) - Remarks, Soho Garden Alpha Stickers Teal (42270) - Remarks, Soho Garden Ribbon Card (84929) - Ribbon
HELLO TINY DANVER by Cathy Pascual
I loved the black and white floral paper and wanted to use it as my background paper so I tried to bring the flowers to life by layering with the dimensional flowers and sticker. I also used this space on my page to add atitle so all the focus is in the center of the layout along with the photos. To anchor my photos I used photo corners and fabric strips.
Supplies: High Line Park Paper (35831) - Soho Garden, Lafayette Paper (35833) - Soho Garden , Tribeca Paper (35836) - Soho Garden, Soho Garden Cardstock Stickers (42273) - Remarks, Soho Garden Alpha Stickers Teal (42270) - Remarks, Gramercy Park Paper (35829) - Soho Garden, Grande Street Paper (35830) - Soho Garden, Bellerose (85609) - Flower Shoppe Molded Paper Flowers, Soho Garden Fabric Stickers Bleeker Street (42272) - Remarks, Soho Garden Layered Embellishments (85606) - Details, Soho Garden Layered Chipboard Stickers (42271) - Remarks
YOU ARE TEA-RIFIC by Cathy Pascual
I loved the packaging that the ribbon came in so I decided to make a card by layering the back with cardstock and adding another teacup dimensional sticker on top. I then layered on green cardstock which opens up as well so there is lots of room to write inside.
Supplies: Orchard Street Paper (35828) - Soho Garden, High Line Park Paper (35831) - Soho Garden, Greenwich Village Paper (35838) - Soho Garden, Soho Garden Cardstock Stickers (42273) - Remarks, Soho Garden Alpha Stickers Green (42270) - Remarks, Soho Garden Alpha Stickers Red (42269) - Remarks, Soho Garden Layered Embellishments (85606) - Details, Soho Garden Ribbon Card (84929) - Ribbon
YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE by Cathy Pascual
I wanted most of the focus to be on the enlarged photo so I followed the natural line of my daughter's line of sight and made a beautiful bouquet of flowers in the corner to house my title and journaling. I noticed that my daughter had a "bow" motif going on - on her shirt, in her hair, even a bow/ribbon on her balloon so I repeated that motif in my embellishments - the grosgrain ribbon and the embellishment on the top reminds me of a bow.
Supplies: Orchard Street Paper (35828) - Soho Garden, Soho Garden Cardstock Stickers (42273) - Remarks, Soho Garden Alpha Stickers Green (42270) - Remarks, Bellerose (85609) - Flower Shoppe Molded Paper Flowers, Soho Garden Fabric Stickers Bleeker Street (42272) - Remarks, Soho Garden Layered Embellishments (85606) - Details, Soho Garden Layered Chipboard Stickers (42271) - Remarks, Soho Garden Ribbon Card (84929) - Ribbon, Garden District (59164) - Stamps, Greenwich Village Paper (35838) - Soho Garden, Black (62600) - Stamp Marker
Repeating the flower motif, I used lots of different types of flowers: pinwheel flower, floral paper, stamped paper, and the flower tag.
Supplies: Gramercy Park Paper (35829) - Soho Garden, Orchard Street Paper (35828) - Soho Garden, Greenwich Village Paper (35838) - Soho Garden, Soho Garden Decorative Layered Tags (85607) - Bits, Soho Garden Ribbon Card (84929) - Ribbon
EMBROIDERY HOOP ART & FLOWERS by Cathy Pascual
For my Etsy shop, Catshy Crafts, I make embroidery hoop art using felt and linen. When I recently saw a tutorial on how to use paper in an embroidery hoop I knew I had to try it! These embroidery hoops are not only decorative (they are meant to be displayed as a grouping along with the flowers) but can be functional as well. The ribbon is not totally glued down to the paper so that the photo may be taken out and a new one put in. I could also put a sweet note or journaling card in the "note to self" hoop art.
Supplies: Orchard Street Paper (35828) - Soho Garden, Nolita Paper (35835) - Soho Garden, Greenwich Village Paper (35838) - Soho Garden, Canal Street Paper (35837) - Soho Garden, Soho Garden Cardstock Stickers (42273) - Remarks, Soho Garden Ribbon Card (84929) - Ribbon, Soho Garden Flower Shoppe Molded Paper Flowers (85609) - Bellerose, Soho Garden Layered Chipboard Stickers (42271) - Remarks

3. Adhere the papers to the box.
4. Tie ribbon around the lid of the box and make a bow.
5. Decorate the box using different die cuts, buttons, string, and glitter accents from the Thickers pack. Adhere some of the die cuts using pop dots.
6. Fill the box with trinkets and gifts then display it on a shelf or give it to a friend in need!

A big congrats to the winner of the Ready Set Go collection, Cassandra Darwin, (please email us atacstudioblog@gmail.com to claim your prize!):
The talented Nicole Nowosad is the Guest Designer for Ready Set Go week!
Short bio: I am a 30-something, proud Canadian living in Winnipeg, Manitoba. When I am not working full time for the Canadian government, you can find me cheering from the sidelines at my two boys' (10 & 7) soccer games or playing dress up with our 3 year old princess. If I had to describe my scrapping style, I would say it is eclectic. My favorite go-to supply is patterned paper – I love to cut it up, punch it out, and try new things/different ways to work it! I love lots of colour and a little sparkle can’t hurt either!
How did you get started scrapbooking? I started scrapbooking after a home party many, many moons ago! I didn’t get serious about it until I found the internet and then I could not be stopped - I was completely hooked and haven’t looked back since.
What is your favorite American Crafts product? Just one? Hmm, I can’t choose just one so, patterned paper and Thickers!
Designer note: Create a whimsical page border with scraps of patterned paper by running your scissors along the edge of the paper and zipping it along quickly. This creates a fun, wavelike effect perfect to add when you don’t have a border punch handy.

Ready Set Go Tag Tutorial by Leah Farquharson
Leah Farquharson is going to show us how to create these amazing, one-of-a-kind tags:
ALTERED TAGS by Leah Farquharson
Supplies: Think Good Thoughts Paper (35766) - Ready Set Go, Black (71082) - Cardstock, Denim (59502) - Pigment Ink, Ready Set Go Value Ribbon Pack (89428) - Premium Ribbon, Kringle & Co Value Ribbon Pack (89430) - Premium Ribbon, Neutrals Medium Brads (85396) - Elements, Field House Paper Leaves (85592) - House, Stitched Vellum (85593) - Details, Hey There (59224) - Stamps, Baxter Brown/Blue Letter Stickers (42254) - Remarks, Cute Overload (42253) - Remarks, Sure Thing (42255) - Remarks, Delighted Accents & Phrases (42252) - Remarks, Ready Set Go Printed Cardstock Shapes (85589) - Bits; Craft supplies: manila tags, watercolors, sewing machine, thread
For the chevron painted background, start by creating the zig zags in green.
Alternate several other colors in between.
Splatter a few specks of black.
After the watercolors dry, stamp hearts using the Hey There stamps set and some denim colored ink. Cut five strips of ribbon and attach them in the middle of the tag. Mount the die cut piece on top with foam dots, and embellish.
For the Hello tag, dab some light green watercolor on the right side of the tag in the middle. Splatter with red paint.
Allow the paint to dry a bit and stamp the Hello word from the Hey There stamp
set. Cut out a word bubble from the Think Good Thoughts paper and stamp part
of the Hello word on the edge. Mount on dimensional adhesive and attach to tag,
layering the color wheel die cut, heart, ribbon, and ampersand. Attach the
man/woman to the corner and the real life sticker to the top.
For the Autumn tag, create a "sunset" look on the background of the tag by blending two different colors of orange and yellow paint. Allow to dry.
Stitch the blue banner sticker on the left side and attach transparent letter stickers on the bottom. Layer a tree that you've die cut from cardstock along with ribbon, leaves, hearts, and a camera sticker.
Quick, easy, fun, unique, and beautiful tags made in a snap!

5th & Frolic Guest Designer: Cassandra Cyr
Congrats to the winner of the 5th & Frolic line, Lindsay Lord Doucet:
I'm excited to introduce the 5th & Frolic Guest Designer, Cassandra Cyr:

Short bio: Hi, my name is Cassandra Cyr and I'm thrilled to be guest designing for American Crafts! I live in CT with my 2 year old son, Charlie, and my husband, Robb. I work full time as a Scientist and my husband is a Photographer, which coincides beautifully with my love of scrapbooking! When I'm not papercrafting I like to cook and catch up on TV shows (I love Breaking Bad, the Big Bang Theory, and Dexter!).
How did you get started scrapbooking? I first started scrapbooking 5 years ago when my husband and I were engaged; I wanted a way to document our relationship together that incorporated all of our funny stories and scrapbooking fit the bill!
What is your favorite American Crafts product? Thickers, of course!
SIMPLY ENCHANTING by Cassandra Cyr
I loved the green, aqua, and khaki colors in this collection, they worked perfectly with this photo of my son in the garden. I chose to sew strips of these colors together as the background for my title and photo.
Supplies: Lark Lane Paper (35811) - 5th & Frolic, Laughter Lane Paper (35821) - 5th & Frolic, 6th and Maple Paper (35809) - 5th & Frolic, Little Moments Lane Paper (35808) - 5th & Frolic, Stitched Ruffle Strips (85604) - Embellishments, -5th & Frolic Chipboard Shapes (85601) - Embellishments, 5th & Frolic Sticker Book (42266) - Remarks, 5th & Frolic Buttons (85598) - Elements, 5th & Frolic Tags (85599) - Bits, Schmutz Letter Stickers (42267) - Remarks, Fox River Rock (53416) - Thickers, Fox White (53415) - Thickers
Here's a simple card that's jazzed up a bit by some sewing detail and adding little flower embellishments directly to a die cut piece. Add a stamped sentiment to the bottom and you're done - quick and easy!
Supplies: Decorative Flowers (77292) - Embellishments, 5th & Frolic Stamps (59163) - Clear Stamps, 5th & Frolic Die Cut Shapes (85600) - Bits, Cartwheel Court Paper (35806) - 5th & Frolic, Playtime Plaza Paper (35803) - 5th & Frolic, Autumn Ave Paper (35815) - 5th & Frolic, Simplicity Circle Paper (35801) - 5th & Frolic
LOVE THAT BOW TIE by Cassandra Cyr
These burlap bows are adorable as a feminine embellishment but they also work perfectly as little bow ties! To add emphasis to the bow tie photo I created a starbust that points to the main photo as well as added a few triangle arrows to the left of the photograph pointing to my son's bow tie.
Supplies: Fox River Rock (53416) - Thickers, Fox Gold (53414) - Thickers, Lark Lane Paper (35811) - 5th & Frolic, Autumn Ave Paper (35815) - 5th & Frolic, 24th and Sparrow Paper (35817) - 5th & Frolic, Dreamy Drive Paper (35820) - 5th & Frolic, Laughter Lane Paper (35821) - 5th & Frolic, Cartwheel Court Paper (35806) - 5th & Frolic, Simplicity Circle Paper (35801) - 5th & Frolic, Cozy Court Paper (35814) - 5th & Frolic, 5th & Frolic Stickers (42266) - Remarks, Pink Ruffle Paper (35823) - 5th & Frolic, Shipping Tags (85599) - Bits, Burlap Bows (85602) - Embellishments, 5th & Frolic Die Cut Shapes (85600) - Bits, 5th & Frolic Fabric & Epoxy Brads (85597) - Elements
2 PEAS(E) IN A POD by Cassandra Cyr
I love the "Little Moments Lane" paper, each polaroid frame is a perfect home to a little embellishment cluster! In case you are wondering about the title of this layout, my son's Great Grandpa's last name is Pease, so I thought the play on words for the title was just perfect :)
Supplies: Shipping Tags (85599) - Bits, Fox Gold (53414) - Thickers, 5th & Frolic Chipboard Shapes (85601) - Embellishments, 5th & Frolic Sticker Book (42266) - Remarks, 5th & Frolic Buttons (85598) - Elements, 5th & Frolic Die Cut Shapes (85600) - Embellishments, 5th & Frolic Fabric & Epoxy Brads (85597) - Elements, 5th & Frolic Printed Chipboard Shapes (85601) - Embellishments, Feather (85605) - Embellishments, 5th & Frolic Fabric Stickers (42268) - Remarks, Simplicity Circle Paper (35801) - 5th & Frolic, Aspen Place Paper (35813) - 5th & Frolic, Little Moments Lane Paper (35808) - 5th & Frolic
BUTTERFLY WREATH by Cassandra Cyr
I wanted to do an ombre wreath but to add an extra layer of dimension I also wanted gradations of size as well as colors. There are so many fantastic shades of pink in the 5th and Frolic collection that this wreath came together in no time at all!

Supplies: Memory Lane Paper (35802) – 5th & Frolic, Pretty Parkway Paper (35800) – 5th & Frolic, Simplicity Circle Paper (35801) – 5th & Frolic, Laughter Lane Paper (35801) – 5th & Frolic, Cozy Court Paper (35814) – 5th & Frolic, Foxy Fairview Paper (35805) – 5th & Frolic,
7th & Sunshine Paper (35810) – 5th & Frolic, Aspen Place Paper (35813) – 5th & Frolic, 2nd & Oak Paper (35812) – 5th & Frolic, Blossom Blvd Paper (35844) – 5th & Frolic, Black (71082) – Cardstock, White (71081) – Cardstock, Kale (71564) – Cardstock,
Turf (71567) – Cardstock, Surf (71508) – Cardstock, Canary (71463) – Cardstock, Foam Adhesive Squares (61710) – This To That, Neapolitan Clothespins (86200) – Embellishments, 5th & Frolic Accents & Phrases (42266) – Remarks Books,
5th & Frolic Fabric Stickers (42268) – Remarks, 5th & Frolic Die Cut Shapes (85600) – Embellishments, 5th & Frolic Scallop (93628) – Flutterbys, Phrase Garland (85603) - Garlands
1) Gather all your supplies and let’s get started!
2) Fold a 12 x 12” sheet of cardstock in half and hand cut a heart; this will be your base.
3) Trim several different papers (I used 10 for my heart) at 1/2”, 3/4”, and 1” wide. Then trim in both short and long pieces.
4) Start adding the paper strips to your heart. It’s just like a puzzle - they can either fit or overlap. You have to play with them to get the look you want.
5) Now turn your heart over and trim excess pieces off the edge very slowly for a clean, smooth heart.
6) Add the “dream” phrase banner to the center – cut the tiny bow off of the right side and set it aside to use in a later step.
7) While on the back side, adhere the scallop Flutterbys to the edge of your heart.
8) Add the “keep it simple” clipboard die cut to the right side using dimensional adhesive.
9) Place two heart stickers and the little bow you cut over the clipboard then add a mini green flower sticker to the center of the tiny bows on the left and right.
10) Set two word stickers anywhere on your heart, along with a couple of heart stickers
11) Add black cardstock to a piece of pre-cut 12” foam board, adhere a 12” square piece of chicken wire to the cardstock and board by simply twisting the edges of the wire around the backside of your board. It will make it flush and smooth (no need to glue, this will not move). Add wire to top to hang or use an easel to display.
That's all there is to it! Thanks for stopping by!
