Christmas Cards Guest Designer: Courtney Kelley

Guest Designer
Our Christmas Cards Guest Designer is the fabulously talented card maker, Courtney Kelley!

Courtney Kelley headshot bwShort bio: My name is Courtney Kelley and card making has been my go-to hobby for the past 9 years. I spend most of my evenings in one of three places - in my craft room working on cards or scrapbooking, in my sewing room learning how to quilt, or finishing up a cross stitch project while watching a bit of TV.

How did you get started cardmaking? Way back in 2000 I inherited a bunch of photos. I wanted to record some of the memories that went with them, and living in Utah at the time, making a scrapbook seemed like the logical project choice. Four years later, and four years of grad school behind me, I decided it was a good time to reacquaint myself with a hobby or two - so I picked up a paper crafting magazine and began my card making adventure.

What is your favorite American Crafts product? Just about everything by Amy Tangerine - especially the 6x6 paper pads and stamp sets!

December Daily Album with Allison Waken - Part 2

Hi everyone! I'm back again today with my December Album organization. For me to be successful with this project I need to have everything on hand and ready to go. Since I'm doing a spread a day I'd like to finish one spread a day. This seems do-able until you get into the craziness of the holidays. Having everything on hand and ready helps speed up the process!

I have my supplies on a tray with cigar boxes and ceramic containers for dividers. Some things to make sure you have with your supplies are adhesive, scissors, stapler, trimmers, and ink.

I am using some divided pages in my album so I cut some patterned paper into 4x6 and 3x4 pieces so they are ready to go.

Supplies: Merry Mail Room Paper (35858) - Kringle and Co, Reindeer Training Paper (35853) - Kringle and Co, Peppermint Parlor Paper (35863) - Kringle and Co, Poinsettia Greenhouse Paper (35850) - Kringle and Co, Coal Mine Paper (35856) - Kringle and Co, Accounting Paper (35869) - Kringle and Co, Woodshop Paper (35865) - Kringle and Co, Lighting Department Paper, (35855) - Kringle and Co, Autumn Stickers (42296) - Remarks, Sugarflake Dimensional Stickers (42278) - Remarks, Holiberry Die Cut Cardstock Shapes (85611) - Bits, Iceplum Dimensional Stickers (42276) - Remarks, Snowtoes Matte Puffy Stickers (42275) - Remarks, Nippynose Decorative Tags (85610) - Bits, Hollymint Accent and Phrase Stickers (42274) - Remarks, Mistlebow (59167) - Acrylic Stamps, Kringle and Co Printed Ribbon (89430) - Premium Ribbon, Foam Dots (61709) - This to That

Next week I'll share how I will prepare some pages ahead of time and how I plan to print/prepare my photos! Are you ready to start December?

Kringle and Co Guest Designer: Tina Walker

Guest Designer of the Week2

I'm elated to introduce the Kringle and Co Guest Designer: Tina Walker!

IMG_0311ab_edited-1a
Short bio: Hi! My name is Tina Walker and I am completely obsessed with this art, just like you. :) I am a working mom, working outside the home. My children are grown, so much of my crafty inspiration comes from my two French bulldogs, Moose & Flikka. They are getting quite the reputation in the scrapbook world. :) I live in sunny (and sometimes snowy) Salt Lake City, UT, but am a Mid West girl at heart. (I'm originally from Ohio). I created by first scrapbook over 15 years ago, but my latest obsession with scrapbooking started about three years ago and I haven't stopped since. I often get asked what my scrapbook style is. I would define it as a 'scrapbook chameleon'. I like to try new techniques and styles, so I often mix it up. Scrapbooking also allows me to share my other obsession, photography. They go hand-in-hand with each other. My phone (with a camera) is always with me and I take a picture almost every day.

How did you get started scrapbooking? I started scrapbooking over 15 years ago when I saw a 'sound scrapbook' on QVC. (Yes, I have spend my share of TV hours watching hosts sell you stuff!). I thought the sound scrapbook was pretty cool, so I ordered one. It was at the time of my parents 40th wedding anniversary, so I thought it would be a nice way to share highlights of their younger days and marriage. The rest they say 'is history'. :)

What is your favorite American Crafts product? Thickers, Thickers, and more Thickers. I can't get enough.

1ST CHRISTMAS A.M. by Tina Walker

I’m a sucker for vintage photos. I really love to scan/print them for use on new layouts. This photo is me, age 11 months, during my first Christmas. This photo paired with the bright, fun colors of Kringle and Co really makes the photo stand out.

Supplies: Merry Mail Room Paper (35858) - Kringle and Co, Sweet's Bakery Paper (35848) - Kringle and Co, Accounting Paper (35869) - Kringle and Co, Beard Barber Shop Paper (35847) - Kringle and Co, Jingle Glitter (53439) - Thickers, Snowtoes (42275) - Remarks, Sugarflake (42278) - Remarks

IMG_2442
A FESTIVE CELEBRATION CARD by Tina Walker

The Kringle and Co die cut collection is amazing! I love the traditional colors of the collection and the fun, festive designs. For this card, I wanted to use plain kraft paper, but I didn’t have any in my stash, so I used the backside of one of the kraft patterned papers (what a perfect way to stretch your product!). I embossed it for a subtle effect and then layered several die cuts and stickers on the card, attaching them with twine and brads.

Supplies: Snowflake Factory Paper (35864) - Kringle and Co, Fabric Stickers (42277) - Remarks, Holliberry (85611) - Bits, Kringle and Co Ribbon (89430) - Premium Ribbon, Hollymint (42274) - Remarks, Pearl Brads (85324) - Elemets, Mini Jewel Brads (85211) - Elements

IMG_2368
22 by Tina Walker

Christmas collections aren’t just for Christmas projects. By using Kringle and Co patterned paper in small amounts, the holiday theme is not visible. I punched several sized circles and layered them on top of each other, clustering them around my two photos. Also, by using black cardstock for the background, the photos really stand out.

Supplies: Accounting Paper (35869) - Kringle and Co, Kringle Garden Paper (35846) - Kringle and Co, Wreath Factory Paper (35852) - Kringle and Co, Kringle and Co Ribbon (89430) - Premium Ribbon

IMG_2441
MERRY CHRISTMAS FRAME by Tina Walker

I love creating fast and easy home décor items. Using stickers (backed with cardstock) and die cuts, I created this home décor piece super quick! I added a piece of patterned paper where the photo would normally go in the frame. I placed a smaller sticker tree over a large tree die cut, using foam squares for dimension, directly on the glass. I then added several packages, popped at different heights for more dimension. I finished the frame with a sticker sentiment and date, placed directly on the frame, added some twine, and viola! Done.

Supplies: Kringle Garden Paper (35846) - Kringle and Co, Snowflake Factory Paper (35864) - Kringle and Co, Hollyming Border (42274) - Remarks, Snowtoes (42275) - Bits, Kringle and Co Ribbon (89430) - Premium Ribbon; Frame: IKEA

IMG_2375
OVER THE RIVER by Tina Walker

Here is another vintage photo, this one of my Grandmother’s house, circa 1960. I kept the layout fairly simple, layering several pieces of patterned paper behind the photos and adhering several sticker embellishments around the photos. In addition, I fussy cut several poinsettias and placed them in a visual triangle across my page. My favorite element on my layout is the large title, using a lyric from a popular holiday song.

Sophie

Hi dear American Crafts fans! Today I would like you to come over to my house! We can have a cup of tea, listen to Diana Krall singing “Winter Wonderland,” and prepare for December by making an advent calendar banner. When I received the new Kringle and Co line I was immediately drawn to these tags:

IMG_1099
and the idea of a banner came to my mind! Here are the simple steps to follow:

1. Get your supplies ready! I played with Remarks and Bits from the line, patterned papers, and the amazing glitter ribbons.

IMG_1110

2. Create the cards and embellishments you will insert in the tags.
• Bits embellishments are fabulous because they fit perfectly in the tags. I chose some to put inside the tags without even embellishing them or I just added a piece of ribbon.

IMG_1117 (800x533)

• For other tags I used confetti punched from patterned paper; just spread glue on the tag where you want your confetti and sprinkle!

IMG_1107 (800x533)

• Use your punches: I punched a heart and layered it on ribbon using 3D Adhesive.

IMG_1105 (800x533)

• I also used 3D adhesive to create layers. The tag in the center is made out of a sticker on which I added three puffy stickers to create a dimensional Christmas tree.
• I made 3 tags with the same design: I layered the gorgeous dimensional banners on top of pieces of matching ribbon and paper:

IMG_1102 (800x533)

Here are my 25 tags:

IMG_1100 (800x503)

3. I wrote prompts on some of them such as: Go to the Christmas market, make cookies, watch a Christmas movie, read a Christmas story, decorate the tree, go and buy the tree, etc. Here is what it looks like when I put the inside the tags:

IMG_1122 (800x404)
IMG_1120 (533x800)

4. Then machine stitch the tags together, adding some Bits from time to time. All you have to do is prepare the tags in the order you want them and let the machine run between tags. Make sure to keep the tags quite close to each other. I made two banners, one with 10 tags and one with 15 tags.

IMG_1125 (800x533)

5. Then all you have to do is hang it on your wall, or under your shelves, mantelpiece, etc. My girl loves it! Washi tape is great to hang it up without damaging your wall paint!!

Well, now, the tea is hot! Let’s enjoy a little cup while you admire your so-easy-to-make, great looking advent calendar!

Kringle and Co Week

Kringle and CoGather friends and family for a good, old-fashioned holiday celebration. Soft teal blues and a creamy neutrals add a pleasing twist to a sweet color palette of classic Christmas hues in Kringle and Co. Throw in holly leaves, snowflakes, gingerbread, and a sweater or two, and you have a holiday collection for the ages. Kringle and Co’s 24 patterned papers — including four festive pages in kraft — mix beautifully with uniquely designed embellishments, such as stickers resembling your favorite winter sweater from Aunt Sue, and festive Thickers that’ll bring holiday cheer to all.

December Daily Album with Allison Waken - Part 1

Hi everyone! Allison here today with a fun mini series throughout December. I'm going to be sharing my December mini album with you as the month goes on. I know MANY people look forward to some sort of holiday album or project (as I do) so I hope you'll enjoy following along with me each Saturday through the end of the year.

Today I'm sharing a peek at my cover and title page!

I went simple and classic this year. I LOVE these Remarks Sugarflake dimensional stickers. They adhere really well! The cover is painted with a few coats of gesso and a couple coats of a matte waterbased sealer for protection.

This binder is sized at 8.75 x 9.75" so the inserts will be 6 x 8" or broken up depending on the page protectors.

For the inside I kept it plain with just a pop of paint on the corner for fun.

I like to do each day leading up to Christmas in my album so I'll have 24 days. Each day will be a spread (or more with inserts) so I designed a "title page" for the front of the album.

Supplies: White (71081) - Carstock, Merry Mail Room Paper (35858) - Kringle and Co, Reindeer Training Paper (35853) - Kringle and Co, Peppermint Parlor Paper(35863) - Kringle and Co, Poinsettia Greenhouse Paper (35850) - Kringle and Co, Coal Mine Paper (35856) - Kringle and Co, Autumn Stickers (42296) - Remarks, Sugarflake Dimensional Stickers (42278) - Remarks, Holiberry Die Cut Cardstock Shapes (85611) - Bits, Black Boho (53423) - Thickers, Mistlebow (59167) - Acrylic Stamps, Kringle and Co Printed Ribbon (89430) - Premium Ribbon

Next week I'll share how I'm storing all my supplies for easy use and tips on having pages ready to go (or not) depending on your preference. Any questions are always welcome!

Are you doing a December album of some sort? If so, be sure to link to them in the comments so we can see what you've been up to as well!

Thanksgiving Guest Designer: Nicole Martel

Guest Designer
The Guest Designer for Thanksgiving week is the talented and inspiring Nicole Martel!
Nicole martel self portrait

Short bio: I am a wife and the mom of a 2 year old. Currently I work for NASA Federal Credit Union 10 hours a day, 4 days a week. When I’m not working, I am at home playing with my son and when he goes to bed at night, I scrap! I tend to have more of a simple/journalistic style. My favorite go-to supply is patterned paper because I can cut it up and use patterns as embellishments on my layouts. I like my layouts nice and neat, free of clutter :)

How did you get started scrapbooking? I began scrapping in January 2002 but I didn’t get really serious or discover the online scrapping forums until August 2006. I remember when my mom asked me to go to a Creative Memories party with her. I laughed and told her no way, I'm not creative enough! By the time I left that party, I had my first album, cardstock, pens, trimmer, scissors, and lots of stickers and templates. Little did I know that I'd be addicted! I totally love this hobby. It makes me happy to create layouts for my friends and family and to inspire others to scrap.

What is your favorite American Crafts product? I am in love with the dimensional stickers! They are perfect for any paper crafting project.

Thanksgiving Wreath Tutorial by Heather Leopard

Heather Leopard is going to show us step-by-step how to make this stunning Thanksgiving wreath:

Fall Wreath Heather Leopard wm AC
GIVE THANKS WREATH by Heather Leopard

Supplies: Apple Pie Paper (35885) - Pumpkin Patch, Caramel Corn Paper (35883) - Pumpkin Patch, Pumpkin Bread Paper (35882) - Pumpkin Patch, Candy Bar Paper (35876) - Pumpkin Patch, Pumpkin Pie Paper (35880) - Pumpkin Patch, Hayride Accent & Phrase Stickers (42295) - Remarks, Chestnut  (71048) - Cardstock

Heather

1. Gather your American Crafts supplies. You'll also need a round foam wreath, felt and burlap cut from a fabric bolt, die cutting machine and dies or files, scissors, orange, green, and brown mists, ribbon, glitter glue, staple gun, liquid glue, and plastic gloves.

2. Cut strips of felt and burlap approximately 3.5" x the as long as the fabric allows. Cut scallops out of the felt and burlap. It doesn't have to be perfect; just eye it.

Fall wreath scallops AC

Step 2: Staple the strips to the back of the wreath and start wrapping the strips around the wreath, alternating the felt and burlap at the same time so they overlap each other.

Fall wreath covering AC

Step 3: Cut pumpkin, pinecone, accordian flowers, and leaves from paper (I used my electronic die cutting machine to cut these files). Mist the leaves in orange, green, and brown mists and crumple them up while they are still moist. Glove are recommended. Unwrinkle them before adding them to your wreath. Mat the Give Thanks sentiment sticker on brown cardstock to give it a sturdier base. I used glitter glue to add a little sparkle to my pinecone.

Fall wreath elements AC

Step 4: Layer all the leaves, flowers, pinecone, and sentiment to your liking. Add a ribbon and now you have a welcoming fall wreath.

THANKFUL FOR NOEL PLACE CARD by Kimberly Neddo

I wanted to put a little twist on this project, so I created a place card and utensil holder in one. I used cardstock to create the actual holder by cutting the paper to 7 x 10" then using my scoring blade to create the fold at 3 1/2 inches on the 7 inch edge. At the top of one side of the 10 inch edge, I cut one side of the paper 2 inches from the top, to the fold in the center. This created the pocket effect. I stitched this together and then decorated it with paper and pretty gold thickers.
