Use it Up Guest Designer: Meghann Andrew
Our Use it Up Guest Designer is the talented Meghann Andrew!
How did you get started scrapbooking: I started out cardmaking with my mom in high school, then created my first album, a 'Senior Year' scrapbook, and I was addicted! My scrapbooking has gone through so many periods of my life, from being single, married, moving to a different country, and now, a baby on the way!
What is your favorite American Crafts product?: It's amazing how many American Crafts products I own, but if I had to choose, I'd say that it would be a toss-up between Thickers (you can never have enough!) or patterned paper. I always love seeing the new designs around CHA time!
LIFE WITH YOU IS AN ADVENTURE by Meghann Andrew
Tip: Don't be afraid to mix different font stickers to create a fun, eclectic title! It's a great way to use up extra Thickers that you may have laying around!
Supplies: Love Note Paper (35898) - XOXO, Coffee Break Paper (35768) - Ready Set Go, Cartwheel Court Paper (35806) - 5th & Frolic, Die Cut Cardstock Shapes (85600) - 5th & Frolic Bits, Accent & Phrase Stickers (42266) - 5th & Frolic Remarks, Brilliance (72028) - Delights, Delighted (42252) - Remarks, Sure Thing (42255) - Remarks, Cute Overload Tiny Matte Puffy Stickers (42253) - Remarks, Oh Yes Fabric Stickers (42256) - Remarks, Ready Set Go Cardstock Die Cut Shapes (85589) - Bits, Everyday Mediterranean (53393) - Thickers, Chelsea Red (42269) - Remarks, East Village (89429) - Carded Ribbon, Limo Black (61-01)- Memory Marker, Foam Dots (61709)- This to That
Tip: Decorating a printer's tray is a great way to get rid of leftover paper scraps and embellishments. I treat the overall design in the same way that I would a scrapbook layout, with clusters of embellishments, and by making visual triangles.
Supplies: Lounge Fest Paper (35786) - Ready Set Go, Park Avenue Paper (35834) - Soho Garden, Orchard Street Paper (35828) - Soho Garden, Wind Down Paper (35776) - Ready Set Go, On The Clock Paper (35779) - Ready Set Go, 6th & Main Paper (35819) - 5th & Frolic, Cartwheel Court Paper (35806) - 5th & Frolic, Accent & Phrase Stickers (42266) - 5th & Frolic, East Village (89429) - Carded Ribbon, Decorative Glitter Flowers (77292) - 5th & Frolic Flower Shoppe, Die Cut Cardstock Shapes (85600) - 5th & Frolic Bits, Fabric Stickers (42268) - 5th & Frolic Remarks, Details Layered Embellishments (85615) - XOXO, Stitched Ruffle Strips (85604) - 5th & Frolic, Delighted Stickers (42252) - Ready Set Go Remarks, Foam Dots (61709) - This to That
A DAY IN REGENT'S PARK by Meghann Andrew
Tip: Printing photos at different sizes gives your layout a 'collage' feel and using a dark mat on top of a busy paper helps to ground the photos and embellishments.
Supplies: Grande Street Paper (35830) - Soho Garden, Park Avenue Paper (35834) - Soho Garden, On The Clock Paper (35779) - Ready Set Go, Wind Down Paper (35776) - Ready Set Go, Cardstock Die Cut Shapes (85589) - Ready Set Go Bits, Delighted Stickers (42252) - Ready Set Go Remarks, East Village (89429) - Carded Ribbon, Poppy District Cardstock Stickers (42273) - Remarks, Accent & Phrase Stickers (42266) - 5th & Frolic Remarks, Cute Overload Tiny Matte Puffy Stickers (42253) - Ready Set Go, Limo Black (61-01) - Memory Marker, Foam Dots (61709) - This to That
FAIRY PRINCESS by Meghann Andrew
Tip: I often cut busy, large patterns from designs in patterned papers to use as embellishments as I find an entire sheet a bit overwhelming!
Supplies: Vanilla Weave (71041) - Cardstock, Cartwheel Court Paper (35806) - 5th & Frolic, Lovely Lane Paper (35816) - 5th & Frolic, Accent & Phrase Stickers (42266) - 5th & Frolic Remarks, Decorative Glitter Flowers (77292) - 5th & Frolic Flower Shoppe, Cardstock Die Cut Shapes (85616) - XOXO Bits, Adhesive Metal Discs (85590) - Ready Set Go Flair, Boho Gold (53422) - Thickers, Amelia Transparent Letter Stickers (42359) - Remarks, Limo Black (61-01) - Memory Marker, Foam Dots (61709) - This to That
VALENTINE CARDS by Meghann Andrew
Tip: Leftover scraps of paper & random embellishments are perfect for making these mini 4x4" cards. By using the same overall design on each card, they can be made rather quickly!
Supplies: 6 x 6 Paper Pad (35901) - XOXO, Coffee Break Paper (35768) - Ready Set Go, Acrylic Stamps (85614) - XOXO, East Village (89429)- Soho Garden Carded Ribbon, Decorative Glitter Flowers (77292) - 5th & Frolic Flower Shoppe, Cardstock Die Cut Shapes (85616) - XOXO Bits, Layered Embellishments (85615) - XOXO Details, Accent & Phrase Stickers (42266) - 5th & Frolic Remarks, Fabric Stickers (42268) - 5th & Frolic Remarks, Gold (96039) - Glitter Tape, Aqua Embossing Powder (27143) - Zing!, Limo Black (61-01) - Memory Marker, Foam Dots (61709) - This to That

Use it Up Layout Tutorial by Angie Gutshall
Angie Gutshall is here today to show us in a step-by-step photo tutorial how to make this STUNNING layout:
Supplies: 2nd & Oak Paper (35812) - 5th & Frolic, Little Moments Lane Paper (35808) - 5th & Frolic, Sweet Street Paper (35845) - 5th & Frolic, Treasure Terraced Vellum (35822) - 5th & Frolic, Simplicity Circle Paper (35801) - 5th & Frolic, Carmel Apple Paper (35884) - Pumpkin Patch, Conference Call Paper (35778) - Ready, Set, Go, Rise N Shine Paper (35783) - Ready Set Go, On the Clock Paper (35779) - Ready Set Go, Kringle Garden Paper (35846) - Kringle and Co, Snowflake Factory Paper (35864) - Kringle and Co, Valentine (85614) - Clear Stamps, Hudson Square Die Cut Shapes (85608) - Bits, Fox Gold Glitter (53414) - Thickers, Kringle Fountain (53437) - Thickers, Iceplum (42276) - Remarks, Wooden Buttons (85598) - 5th & Frolic Embellishments, Stitched Vellum Embellishments (85593) - Details
1) I started by gathering papers from four different lines (Ready Set Go, 5th & Frolic, Kringle and Co, and Pumpkin Patch). Each piece had already been cut into so they were not full sheets.
2) I then cut all different sizes of triangles. I cut these out while watching a movie with my kids :)
3) After they were cut out I distressed the edges and then sewed around most of them.
4) After that it was just a matter of gluing and embellishing! I hope I have inspired you to use up those scraps and create a fun layout!

Build Your Own Igloo Winter Gift by Allison Waken
Allison Waken has a fun step-by-step photo tutorial showing everyone how to make this cute "Build Your Own Igloo Winter Gift":
BUILD YOUR OWN IGLOO by Allison Waken
Supplies: White (71081) - Cardstock, Kringle Garden Paper (35846) - Kringle and Co, Snowflake Factory Paper (35864) - Kringle and Co, Treasured Terrace Vellum (35822) - 5th & Frolic, Large Tags (85599) - 5th & Frolic Bits, Iceplum Dimensional Stickers (42276) - Remarks, Autumn Stickers (42296) - Remarks, Jingle Silver Glitter (53441) - Thickers, Ready Set Go Value Pack (89428) - Ribbon
1) Whenever I start a project I like to pull out supplies I think I may want to use:
2) Then I cut and layered pieces onto a tag:
3) I lightly adhered these pieces with adhesive and then sewed down the middle. I like to secure things that will get handled often (like tags) with staples or sewing.
4. I played with some other embellishments but decided to just put on the title since I didn't want to get too "frilly" with this tag.
5. I printed out some simple instructions for the back of the tag (these can also be placed in the jar).
6. Then I added some snowflakes to dress up the jar a bit.
7. Next I added the sugar cubes and a toy and it's ready to go!
Simple, fun, and cute!

In many parts of the world it's literally FREEZING! What better time to cozy up to the fire and scrapbook while the cold winds blow and snow falls? This week we'll show you how to capture your winter memories and spread some cheer with cards to friends. Kimberly Neddo and Becky Williams start off Winter Week with a layout and card each:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY by Kimberly Neddo
Supplies: Greenwich Village Paper (35838) - Soho Garden, TriBeCa Paper (35836) - Soho Garden, Scene Cascade (53341) - Thickers, Fabric Bows (85602) - Embellishments, Endless Summer Stitched Ruffled Paper (35646) - Neapolitan, Transparent Letter Stickers Baxter (42254) - Remarks
WINTER WHITE BEAUTY by Kimberly Neddo
"One of the things I LOVE about all the wonderful Thickers that American Crafts carries is how all the different fonts can be used together to make a fun and playful title. To create the background frame, I used several patterned papers and layered them under the photograph to help this adorable picture of Olivia stand out. If you love to use spray inks too, but just want a few little splatters on your page, simply shake the bottle over your project and random splatters will appear for a fun effect. To add to the title, I used my Silhouette machine to cut out the word "White" on vellum paper for a subtle touch."

Silhouette Altered Frame by Patricia Roebuck
Patricia Roebuck is here today to show us in a step-by-step photo tutorial how to make these adorable altered frame using a Silhouette:
ENJOY THE RIDE FRAME by Patricia Roebuck
Supplies: White (71081) - Cardstock, 6x6 Paper Pad (35841) - Soho Garden, Decorative Flowers (77292) - Dear Lizzy, Brads (85597) - Dear Lizzy, Buttons & Accents (85598) - Dear Lizzy, Midtown Layered Chipboard Stickers (42271) - Remarks, Mayfair Adhesive Layered Embellishments (85606) - Details, Bellrose Molded Paper Flowers (85609) - Flower Shoppe, Poppy District Stickers (42273) - Remarks, Field House Paper Leaves Shapes (85592) - Amy Tangerine, Foam Dots (61709) - This to That, Adhesive Dispenser (AM617-11) - This to That, Flower by American Crafts, Design ID #18741 - Silhouette, Flower by American Crafts, Design ID #18742 - Silhouette, Bicycle by American Crafts, Design ID #19531 - Silhouette
1) This video will show you how I used the Silhouette Studio to change the colors of the print and cut flower design, how I welded my title to a design to create my own unique title, and create an outline around the title with the Silhouette sketch pens.
American Crafts Altered Frame from Patricia Roebuck on Vimeo.
2) Now that I have my title and flowers cut and sketched from the Silhouette, I’m going to add different pieces of patterned paper to the back of the title using the Soho 6x6 paper pad.
3) Once the title is finished, I adhere the cardstock to the acrylic (this frame has acrylic instead of glass, but a glass frame would work as well). Since the frame is larger than 12x12, I added another piece of cardstock, trimmed the end, and lined up the seam as best I could. Next, I start placing the print and cut flowers along with Soho Garden stickers and flowers, 5th & Frolic brads and buttons, and Amy Tangerine leaves. I just laid them out first to decide how I liked the look before adhering anything. As I laid the flowers and embellishments out, I found it was a good idea to put the frame over the design to see what would show and where to place things.
4) I added one more cut file to this project, the bike. The original design of the bike points to the left. From the menu in Silhouette Studio, I did Object-Transform-Mirror Options-Mirror Right. I used some foam adhesive on some of the flowers and the bike to add a little more dimension.
5) Once everything was adhered, I put this all into the frame again. For even more dimension, adhere some flowers onto the frame itself.
6) Hang up your finished project and enjoy! Thanks for taking a look!

Fast & Fabulous Guest Designer: Rebecca Keppel
Our Fast & Fabulous Week Guest Designer is the talented Rebecca Keppel!
Short bio: In the beginning of 2005 I was a corporate attorney in San Francisco, but then my daughter was born and I became a stay-at-home-mom for the next 6 years. I started scrapbooking around that time and found the creative outlet a santity saver to say the least! We moved to Arizona and my son was born in 2007. They are the main stars of my scrapbooking show. I love practicing new photography skills on them and then creating layouts with those pictures. I've been blogging for about 4 years now and love sharing projects, ideas, and photos on my blog. I also enjoy card making, creating mini albums, and gifts for friends and family. I generally think of my style as clean with a focus on the photos, but with a definite fun twist. Two of my favorite additions to layouts are machine sewing and typewritten journaling.
How did you get started scrapbooking? A friend told me once I moved out to the suburbs I would have to start scrapbooking. ;) She was right! Once I moved out of the city, had my daughter, and became a stay-at-home-mom, I discovered scrapbooking and started documenting her every move.
What is your favorite American Crafts product? I think it is safe to say that I have a Thickers addiction. I seriously have never met a pack of Thickers that I didn’t love and want to take home.
MEMORY BOARD by Rebecca Keppel
Altered items seem to take me the longest so to go with the fast & fabulous theme I started with a cute corkboard and quickly turned it into a fun memory or style board using lots of American Crafts embellishments. The layered or detailed embellishments make altering a breeze since they all already come with self adhesive! Just peel and stick!
Supplies: 5th & Frolic Large Tags (85599) – Bits, Soho Garden Bellerose Molded Paper Flowers (85609) – Flower Shoppe, Mayfair Adhesive Layered Embellishments (85606) – Details, Dear Lizzy Brads (85597) – Elements, 5th & Frolic Buttons and Epoxy Accents (85598) - Elements, 5th & Frolic Fabric Fabric and Burlap Bows (85602) – Embellishments, 5th & Frolic Phrase Garland (85603) - Embellishments, Ready Set Go Value Pack (89428) - Ribbon
ONE SECOND LATER by Rebecca Keppel
It only takes a few minutes to cut a detailed background with an electronic cutting device, but gives a definite wow factor to otherwise simple layouts.
Supplies: Fox White (53415) – Thickers, Soho Garden Layered Chipboard Stickers Midtown (42271) - Remarks, Soho Garden Mayfair Adhesive Layered Embellishments (85606) – Details, Daily Black (53388) – Thickers, Lunch Break Paper ( 35771) – Ready Set Go, High Line Park Paper (35831) - Soho Garden
Cards are the easiest for me to get done in a short period of time. Staying with a clean & simple style leaves me plenty of time for embellishing and adding homemade touches like sewing. I keep my sewing machine out on my desk so it is accessible and quickly pulled forward for a fast project.
Supplies: Nickel (710720 ) – Cardstock, 5th & Frolic Large Tags (85599) – Bits, Soho Garden Bellerose Molded Paper Flowers (85609) – Flower Shoppe, Soho Garden Mayfair Adhesive Layered Embellishments (85606) – Details, Dear Lizzy Brads (85597) – Elements, 7th and Sunshine Paper (35810) – 5th & Frolic, 5th & Frolic Phrase Garland (85603) - Embellishments, 5th & Frolic Buttons and Epoxy Accents (85598) - Elements
BE TRUE TO YOURSELF by Rebecca Keppel
Designs with lots of white space and a few fun clusters have a big impact and don’t take long to create!
Supplies: West Broadway Paper (35839) – Soho Garden, Soho Garden Layered Chipboard Stickers (42271) Remarks, Fox Gold (53414) – Thickers, 5th & Frolic Stitched Ruffle Strips (85604) - Embellishments, 5th & Frolic Decorative Glitter Flowers (77292) - Flower Shoppe, 5th & Frolic Layered Embellishments (85605) - Details
It is possible to add techniques like stamping and sewing and still get a layout completed in a half an hour! I keep everything I need close by and I make my techniques simple (stamping three stamps placed on one acrylic block in a row, machine stitching a straight border or edge). To add detail I used a gel pen on my stamped images and a different color ink to stamp the mini heart.
Supplies: Nickel (710720 ) – Cardstock, Ready Set Go Hey There (59224) - Stamp Collection, Ready Set Go Layered Embellishments (85591) – Details, Ready Set Go Die Cuts (85589) - Bits, Ready Set Go Decorative Tags (85588) – Bits, Ready Set Go Value Pack (89428) – Premium Ribbon, Everyday White (53392) – Thickers, Daily Sunset (53389) - Thickers

3. Layer the different punched out shapes and embellishments and add a sentiment sticker.
4. Stick the tag onto one of the sketchbooks. Place the sketchbook on top of the envelope and use some ribbon to attach the sketchbook to the envelope.
5. All you have to do now is slip the gift card inside and add a name tag. It's a little gift that is sure to bring a smile to the recipient's face!
Such a fast and fabulous way to make a gift card extra pretty and extra special!
