lovely layers...

Sept_meliphillips_view2
Maya Road has just released their CHA-S 2010 Catalog....and there are so many irresistible products included.  One of my favorite new releases is the Flower Edge Layer Book...one can never have too many layers...the more the better in my book.  I'd love to share with you my project created with this lovely little chipboard wonder.

Sept_meliphillips1

Truth be told, I thrive on layers....dress them up, make each one different and unique...make your album bulky and chunky and leave it begging to be opened and enjoyed.  You can see snippets of other new products included here and there in this project as well, including:

Sept_meliphillips_view3

Transparent Doilies...

Sept_meliphillips_view4

Wood Bingo Markers...

Sept_meliphillips_view5

Crochet Trims and Ribbon Pleats...just to name a few.

You're gonna love it all!

LOVE! the new Picket Fence Album!!!!

Our CHA-S 2010 release sports a number of really great chipboard albums (what's new, right?). This year my favorite new album is the Picket Fence album. It's a prefect size & shape and it's oh so easy to work with. The front of the album has picket cut-outs and the back has flowers, vines and birds. I used all of that and more to make this album.

Picketfence
After CHA-S I'll get back online and post the inside of the album. I think you'll love it as much as I do!

Picketfence2
In this close-up you'll see that my favorite addition to this already cute album was the Maya Road Scallop Chipboard frames and the Maya Road A to Z Seals rubons. (I almost forgot about the Maya Road Trinket Buttons - Earth... I hardly alter something without adding a few buttons).

If you're at CHA-S next week you'll see this album and more! For those of you that can't make it, you'll see them over the next couple of weeks right here!

Have a super week!  Aubrey

Sneak Peek 3: Getting Our Kraft On!

Roadies, we took a short hiatus over the weekend to pack the rest of our goodies and send them on their way to Chicago. We know you are filled with anticipation of what else we have so let's get this party started.

There was a question about where to find the full range of Maya Road - good question. First off check your LSS - if they don't carry it, ask them to. Same with the online stores. And you are also welcome to find the COMPLETE Maya Road line on our website. 95% of the orders on our website are fulfilled by online and LSS around the United States.

Now back to our regularly scheduled sneaks!

Let's start off with some of our Kraft line.

Check out our new kraft calendars (you get 2 complete calendars for about $3.75!)

IMG_8616

And we can follow that up with some Kraft Doilies:

IMG_8624

We also have 2 new sets of Kraft Envelopes that are very unique. Check out this Kraft Windows Envelopes (there are windows on one side)

IMG_9747

And some Kraft Purse Envelopes (which are a cute purse shape):

IMG_9746

And what about some Kraft Mini Ticket Strips? You get 3 strips of this these tiny cuties in a set and the tickets are numbered from 1 to 12. You can tear the tickets as you please to use!

IMG_9745

Now, let's talk about some of our new BASICS line. We decided to make some fun mixed media options that include 4 pieces of kraft and 4 pieces of chipboard in signature Maya Road shapes. We know a lot of people have out there a binding machine or hand punch that can cut through chipboard so this allows you the option to create an album your way - add a binding OR punch as desired for a wall hanging. String them together; use them apart for lots of different looks and options!

Here we have the Scallop Basic Album:

IMG_9706

And we also have our Scallop Square Basic Album:

IMG_9705

And since we have so much kraft today, we wanted to share with you a splash of some color. We are pleased to introduce our Satin Pleat Ribbon in 4 fabulous colors and will retail for less than $1.00 a yard in the US?

IMG_9739

And check out these resin flowers - perfect for Fall or the Holidays (sold in packs of green or cream - your choice):

IMG_9749

And finally our Chipboard Trinket Shadow Box - this lovely piece comes complete with the chipboard pieces inside you can decorate. Just paint or Maya Mist the Shadow Box and then decorate the inside with lots of goodies and pop them in!

Altered Gems

Hi Roadies,

Have you tried altering MR's Trinket Beads?  They are gorgeous as is, but sometimes you just need an embellishment that matches your project perfectly.  Since I alter most things with patterned paper and paint, that's what I decided use on these..

Altered Trinket Beads

In the samples below, you can see just a few of the different ways to alter your Trinket Beads. This is a more opaque look, but if you want to add color without loosing the transparency you can try using inks instead.

  4beadsforblog

In all of these examples the paint, rub-ons and paper are applied to the back of the beads.  That way you still get the pretty "gem" effect. Once you are done, you can coat the back with a sealer to keep it protected.

Picnik collage1

As you can see below altering the beads with patterned paper is very simple.  Just cut your paper a little bigger than the bead.  Apply glue to the back, then use a popsicle stick help apply the paper to the back. Gently sand around the edges of the bead to get rid of any excess paper.

Picnik collage2

Have fun altering!

Jennifer

Are You Ready For Some Sneaks?

Hi Roadies,

We have been super busy getting ready for CHA-S but we are ready to share some peeks with you

Are you ready? Good! Today we bring you some of newest Maya Clear Stamps, Maya Mists, Maya Glitter and Transparencies!

Check out these stamps (all made in the USA) and of course we make our stamps some of the best value out there - where else would you find a set of 15 made in the USA singleton stamps to mix and match for layouts and cards for $5

IMG_9483

They are lovely no? We have some wonderful ones that make amazing cards and tags. For example the baby one is made to mix and match to make wonderful baby cards:

IMG_9448

And our Doily Border one is flexible enough for you to make some curved banners:

IMG_9453

And the Laundry Day stamp is perfect for any time:

IMG_9445

Now related to these stamps, we have these awesome Doily Transparencies - we love that they come in black or white and they are glossy on one side and matte on the other:

  IMG_9459

Check out how it is used in this amazing owl box project:

YoureAHoot_heartbox

And what about this angel project:

AngelOrnamentCU

Or trim in half and use for a card:

IMG_9485

Now we come to our Maya Mists - check out some of the new colors we have - all in metallic (and some of them have a brillant iridescent metallic shine)!

IMG_9456

And check out what they can do when you add them to some Maya Road trims (see a peek at trims you like) - just wet the trim and mist and wet again til you get the desired color:

IMG_9447

"My Boys" Inky & Grungy Banner Album

You all know that I (Dina) like things inky, grungy & messy...which works perfectly since I have 3 wild & crazy boys. I made this album as a tribute to them. They're growing up fast--my oldest son is taller than I am!

I used a resist technique on several of the banners (stamped the crowns, then inked over them so they crowns stood out & resisted the ink). Tip: if you're spraying your canvas and you want softer blended edges between your mist colors, wet the canvas. You can either wet it before or after you spray.

I included a few inky & paintyags in the album. Here's why...while I was making this album, I unscrewed the top off my bottle of Blue Raspberry Maya Mist (I was using the sprayer to flick some of the ink onto the canvas pages). I managed to knock over the entire bottle...and it spilled everywhere! Luckily my carpet is protected by an office mat (whew). Because I had so much ink on my work surface, I grabbed a few tags & blotted up some of the ink. I liked the way the tags looked so I added some paint & text, and they became elements of my mini album.

Rainbow Love

I instantly fell in love with the Maya Road Classic Label Canvas album, which is one of the fabulous early summer releases, and wanted to add a pop of colour to the front cover!  I thought a handmade heart using  Maya Road ribbon would be perfect!  I'll show you how I did it...

•  A frayed edge is so fun so I first hand washed and then dried each canvas piece in the dryer.  Once dry I ironed them.

•  Next, trace a heart on the front of the Classic Label Canvas album and cut it out, just inside your pencil line.

• Cover the piece of canvas that you cut out with a dry adhesive.  Adhere an assortment of ribbon to the canvas heart.

DSC08334-1

•  Machine stitch around the heart if you'd like...this will make sure the ribbon stays in place.

•  Insert ribbon heart into the Classic Label Canvas album and hand stitch around your pencil lines.

DSC08340-1

•  I added some Hanging Chandelier Trinket Beads to the front (I thought they looked like rain drops!) and a piece of Black Gingham Ribbon to the ring.

Have a happy day,

Guest Designer - Jenny Chesnick

Hi Roadies!

Today we are so happy to share the work of Guest Designer, Jenny Chesnick on the Maya Road DT Blog! One of Jenny's banners made out of Maya Road chipboard pages first caught our eye and it turns out that she's a total whiz at creating banners! We asked Jenny to share a few of her favorite banners, and here are three for your viewing pleasure.

Jennybanner1

JennyBanner2
JennyBanner2a

Jennybanner3

We love how the different Maya Road shapes look as banners - Jenny used the Modern Label CoasterMixed Scallop Triangle Banner Album and Oval Scallop Journal Coaster on her three banners above - that's just how versatile our chipboard pages are!

We also asked Jenny for some tips when creating banners, and this was what she shared.

Be consistent and Repeat, Repeat, Repeat!  Layout your pieces and mock up 1 banner then repeat the same layers for each.  I will change up the pattern paper and stickers, but the base style is consistent through out.  I also try my best to have the banner as an odd number.  As in all rules of design this is more pleasing to your eye and doesn't seem "off" when you hang it.

Thanks so much for sharing your amazing creativity with us, Jenny!
