Next up is this gorgeous and imaginative advent calendar by Tara Orr. This is such a clever idea and so much fun to create! Tara is always so inspired by nostalgic ideas and this great calendar is no exception. It's a great take on the idea of a traditional advent calendar. This is a wonderful way to make each day special! Here is what Tara had to say about this sweet creation.

"I remember as a child, my great grandmother would get us these beautiful advents with such intricate designs and photos. When you opened a door, the most amazing, translucent image was revealed - and covered in glitter!  I loved especially holding these up to the windows as they would give off a certain glow.  My kids' advents have been replaced with very themed images like Star Wars, Barbie, etc and under each door you will find a small piece of chocolate! I wanted to try something a little out of the box with this one...  To me, the joy in the advent itself is to count the days down until Christmas and with each day, a small reward or gift is revealed - which can be anything really!  I decided to create 24 Christmas Crackers, in which a small toy, treasure, riddle, photo, poem or treat could be placed." New Years Inspirations with Graphic 45 & Petaloo Day 4!

Hello G45ers,

Welcome to day four of our team up with Petaloo.  We are having a blast with all the creative genius we have seen so far this week. Today's calendars have just turned things up a notch.  So brace yourself for inspiration.  Make sure to hop on over to Petaloo's blog and Facebook and tell them Graphic 45 sent you.  Each comment you leave on our blogs and Facebook pages will increase your chances to win!

Today Nicole Eccles and Robin Shakoor's calendars will guide us into the new year.

1 Nicole G45 Steampunk Perpetual Calendar

Take it away Nicole.  "For my hop Project I decided to alter a Magnet board into a Perpetual Calendar.  Designed so that all 12 months are magnetically interchangeable, as well as the ability to magnetically arrange all 31 dates according to each month.  This way the calendar can be reused year after year, and will never become outdated!  The Magnet board I altered was purchased at Hobby Lobby and measures approx.  26” x  18”, complete with coat hooks, a little shelf and a cork board making it perfect for any office!  Covered with a mix of 4 different Graphic 45 lines, including the gorgeous New Tropical Travelogue!

2 Nicole G45 Steampunk Perpetual Calendar

To create all of the magnets used for the dates I stacked layers of gears, used small metal frames, Glass Cabochons, Graphic 45 Metal Flowers, Metal Tags and Chipboard Buttons.  All Numbered using the fantastic new Tropical Travelogue sticker sheets, then sealed with Mod Podge or Diamond Glaze for long lasting protection.  For the corkboard, I painted it black then used copper paint to stamp flourishes using Hampton Arts Clear Stamps.  I then created tiny decorative thumb tacks using petite Petaloo flowers and Floral Pins purchased at any Craft Store." -Nicole

"I love decorative calendars and I was extremely excited when I heard we were partnering with Petaloo to create a calendar. I decided to use a large frame originally designed to hold 6 4x6 photos.  I used calendar stickers which were die cut, then placed on a dark brown square mat. I used Exotic Destination from the Tropical Travelogue collection as my background in each section. To finish my design I used a variety of Petaloo Darjeeling flowers to embellish my frame.  A May Arts ribbon, topped with a Darjeeling flower, was used to hang my photo frame on the wall" -Robin

This awesome project combines lots of different Graphic 45 paper collections to make each month a unique experience! Plus Nancy added beautiful Petaloo flowers to give this calendar even more color and dimension! Here is what Nancy had to say about this fun and inspiring calendar!

"As soon as I heard we were doing a calendar blog hop with Petaloo my mind starting thinking of all the calendars I've used in the past:  chalk board calendars; memo board calendars; purse size; 12x12's . . . the list goes on.  My favorite to date is the mini-book calendar.  First up = create the pages.  I wanted to keep this small yet have plenty of room to write dates and forget-me-nots.  Notation pages were also needed.  I made up a set of 2012 calendars with important dates and fit that all into a handbound book that measures 6.5" high x 5" wide.  Thanks to various papers from Graphic 45 and beautiful flowers from Petaloo, my 2012 calendar is ready to go." -Nancy Wethington

Next up is this glorious perpetual calendar by Jane Tregenza. Jane used out new Tropical Travelogue collection to create this gorgeous work of art! This piece would look stunning in any home or office. It is full of lots of joyful colors, beautiful embellishments, Petaloo flowers and has such a clever design! Here Jane explains how she came up with the idea for this marvelous calendar and also gives some fun tips on how you can create one for yourself! Take it away, Jane!

The idea of a Perpetual Calendar has always intrigued me.  In days of old the news readers on the radio would always tell you the day and date. Now days we use a computer or a diary. For me a diary is a waste of time as I can never find the blessed thing. The computer is not much better as I have to have it on. So I think this will have to have a place of importance on my desk. The problem will be  remembering to change it each day. I wasn’t sure were to start with this project so I asked my son Josh to design a perpetual Calendar for me from chipboard. I love what he has come up with.

Calendar Open Cover

Calendar Side view Open

It is a box, hinged at the bottom, with compartments for the  date cubes to sit in. There is another box for the months.  Inside the box is room for all the cubes and a note book. He made the top of the box  to fit the new chipboard shapes from Graphic 45 and added a wrought iron looking top to it.

Calendar Flowers1

The closure is a Graphic 45 Stamped Geometric metal tag folded in half. I attached it to the front of the box and  punched a hole in the top of the box. I have used a Graphic 45 metal button for a pin, which you when you pull the pin out the lid drops down and you can use the note book inside and get to the extra cubes.  I used Graphic 45 Staples metal buttons for feet.

Calendar Days

Josh has made a wheel that you can change each day to show the day.

Calendar Flowers3

The new papers from Graphic 45’s Tropical Travelogue range was a perfect match for all the wonderful flowers Petaloo sent me. I had over 10 packets of flowers to choose from.

The flowers are made of paper so I was able to stamp a text stamp with distress ink on the leaves. I added some glitter to the edges of the petals then sprayed the flowers with Memories Mists Iridescent  spray. This has given them a lovely shimmer and deepened the colours.

Calendar Side View

I wish you could see the flowers in real life as they look amazing. I love the earthy tones and the fact they are made of heavy paper. They work so well with the new papers from Graphic 45 and had added a  lovely touch to the front of the calendar.

Thank you Jane Tregenza for that amazing project! Next up we have a gorgeous reusable day planner by Melanie Forbes. This is such a great idea! Melanie decorated this planner in Tropical Travelogue and Botanicabella; two collections that work exquisitely together! And of course she added lots of bright Petaloo flowers to give this planner an ultra-joyful look. With a day planner this gorgeous you'll want to stay organized just for the fun of it! Here Melanie explains how she came up with this terrific idea!

"I am enjoying being a bit more organised for Christmas – even to the point of getting a diary for next year – just for me! So by easily removing the covers and decorating then replacing them – you have diary covers too last you for as long as you want! By not putting 2012 on it I can keep on using it every year – a good reason to use some of my favourite paper" -Melanie Forbes

This week's blog swap is very special. In honor of the new year, our design team has created a series of Graphic 45 and Petaloo calendars! This is definitely the time of year when a beautiful new calendar is the perfect thing to start the new year! Let these gorgeous creations inspire your new year's resolutions! Today's stunning crafts were made by Gloria Stengel and Laura Denison. They showcase our gorgeous new collection Tropical Travelogue as well as other classic Graphic 45 paper collections with fabulous Petaloo flowers. First up is Gloria with her astounding birthday book! Behold the brilliance!

"I created a perpetual birthday calendar by altering an old post bound mini album (8x8) that I found in my stash. I covered the fabric album with Graphic 45 Tropical Travelogue papers, including the spine and inside covers. I converted a boring album, that was collecting dust on a shelf, into something fresh and new. I glued Petaloo flowers and chipboard letters to the front of the album to create a project that anyone would love to have sitting on their table - plus this makes a fantastic gift! The album contains pages for each month to use for recording that month's birthdays. I've added a mini 2012 calendar to each page. These little calendars can be replaced each year with new calendars, making the album even more useful. The monthly record pages were left over from a project I made a number of years ago. I used other dividers for the project at the time, but could not bear to toss these dividers! I knew they'd come in handy one day! They are perfect for this birthday calendar project. For today, I created pages for January, February, and March. To see the rest of the year, visit my blog in February!" -Gloria Stengel

"I love to make things out of boxes....but in a different way! I turned the  Graphic 45 5x8 Altered Art Box over and used the bottom of the box to create a desk clock/calendar. The hinged "lid" of the box becomes the stand. The clock mechanism and the pieces for the the perpetual calendar are housed inside the box. The perpetual calendar pieces are attached via magnets. Lavish Layouts, Tutorials & Blog Winner Announcement!

Hello G45ers!

Happy Friday to you all! Wow, it's hard to believe that Christmas is just two days away! We hope you are all enjoying this wonderful time with friends and family. We are certainly enjoying all the beauty and fun of this festive season. The holidays are such a magical time for many reasons. Of course it's always a treat to decorate the house, get together with loved ones, exchange gifts, and reflect on the year that has passed and the year ahead. It's also a great time for setting new goals for yourself. We're not talking about huge resolutions, but simple attainable ones. For example, taking just a little bit more time in your week to allow yourself to be creative! It is so easy to get bogged down with responsibilities these days but it is so beneficial to give yourself time to be creative and crafty. Not only is it so much fun and enjoyable, but it also gives you something beautiful to show for your time! Today we're bringing you some stunning crafts that we hope will inspire you to be creative! Robin Shakoor, Hilde Janbroers and Jane Tregenza have made the most gorgeous layouts with our collection An ABC Primer. There's even an awesome and fun tutorial by Jane that you're sure to enjoy! Yes, today is going to be fabulous!

But before we get to the crafts, it's time to announce this week's blog prize winner! Chosen at random from this week's comments from the Graphic 45 Facebook page, the winner is...

-Elizabeth Mohler Gaddis

Congratulations Elizabeth! Please email us with your shipping information at info@g45papers.com to claim your prize. Big thanks to everyone who left us comments this week! We will have a new blog prize next week so stay tuned!

This first fabulous layout was created by Robin Shakoor. There is so much to love about this elegant LO. It seems to spring right off the page with joy and beauty! It has such a timeless look to it. Here is what Robin had to say about the inspiration behind this glorious layout!

"I was going through my daughter's elementary school photos and decided to create a layout using one of my favorite photos of her.  I used the An ABC Primer collection to frame my photo and build my page.  I love using circles in my designs so I decided to create my layout around a simple circle.  I cut and mounted the letters for my title and placed them in a semi circular pattern.  Round flowers and flower centers as well as circular swirls were used to tie in with my theme.   The design was finished by framing my page with pearls using a pearl pen.  Give circles a try on your next project. It's a small element that packs a lot of punch!...Robin"

Also add a piece of the Games and Playtime sheet, after teared it with the tear edger deckle. Add the photo on a piece of paper and then add it on the layout. Make 2 bows out of the wonderful May Arts ribbon and add them in the corners of the photo. Also add some small flowers. Now add the chipboards and title and stamps." -Hilde Janbroers

Next we have a super fun layout and tutorial by the fabulous Jane Tregenza. Jane is a true professional when it comes to crafting. Here she shows us some great and simple techniques for creating an unforgettable layout. You're going to love this sweet and vibrant creation! Here is what Jane had to say about this outstanding LO!

"As soon as I saw the ABC Primer range from Graphic 45 it became one of my favourites. I think its the strong colours and images that appeals the most, and the Calico Kids print paper is one of my top 10 Graphic 45 favourites. I decided to do a layout using one of Kate’s school photos.  I love using frames on my layouts, so with this layout I have used the printed papers to create a frame around my page. I have included a step by step for this project so have a go at making one for  yourself." -Jane Tregenza

Finished

Photo 1

Remove the middle from the Building Blocks print paper. Make sure you leave the black edge on the frame on the inside as wide as you can, without cutting into the alpha blocks. This will give you a frame to use on our page and some alpha blocks to use on another project.

Photo 2

Cut your red Bazzill to 10 3/8 inches x 10 3/8 inches. Do not attach to the frame yet. Don’t forget to ink it.

Photo 3

3.     Cut your Calico kids back to 9 ¾ inches x 9 ¾ inches. This will remove three squares along one side and at the top. Make sure you check that you are not cutting through any of the pattered squares before cutting. You should have a nice amount of black showing all the way around. You may need to adjust the 9 ¾ inches to make it work. Ink around the edges.

Photo 4

Adhere it to the red Bazzill in the middle, making sure you have the same amount showing all the way around.
 Photo 5

Photo 6

4.     You can now attach it to your frame with a little bit of tape. Once you have lined it up and are happy with it. Carefully turn it over and add more tape over the join on the back.

6.     Cut  One two Buckle my shoe to 8 3/16 inches x 8 3/16 inches. Ink all round the edges. Attach it to your page in the middle. It should fit with one of the squares of Calico Kids showing all the way around.

Photo 7

Your foundation page  should now look like this.

Tag 4
7.     Now it’s time for to work on your tag. You will need to cut the mats for your photo first. Use the red bazzill and cut it to 5 inches x 7 inches. From your left over paper cut your tag. It needs to be 3 1/8 inch x 5 1/8 inches. Ink around the edges. Cut your next photo mat. Use the black Bazzill and cut it to 4 ¾ inches x 6 ¾ inches. With the left over black pieces cut your tag to 2 3/4 inches x 4 3/4 inches. Adhere it to your red Bazzill.  From the left over piece of One two buckle my shoe cut a piece 2 ½ inch x 4 ½ inch and ink around the edges. You can adhere this to your tag as well.

Tag 1 (2)
8.     Now you can add some of the other bits and pieces to your tag.  Add a piece of stripe paper ¾ inch high and 3 ½ inches long (this in on the back of Calico Kids). It is  wider than the tag, you need to adhere it about ½ inch down from the top and wrap the ends of the stripe around to the back of the tag. Next cut a piece from your left over  Calico kids print paper. It needs to be three blocks long and one blog high. Attach two blocks onto the bottom right corner of your tag and wrap the third block around to the back of the tag. Add the narrow stripe ribbon to the middle of the print and wrap the end to the back of your tag.
Tag 2 (2)
9.     Add the square in your kit with the image on it. Place it on your tag on an angle and with 1/3 hanging off the tag on the right side. Trim the bit hanging off your tag. From   your left over bits of buckle my shoe, see if you have an equation that matches the age of your child. Wrap the check ribbon from the back to the front and tie a knot in it. Add two micro brads to the top corner of your equation. Add it to your tag with foam tape, as show in the photo.

Tag 3
Now attach your finished tag to a sprayed or inked black, tag backing board
              To finish your page

10.  Add your photo to your black mat and then adhere it to your red mat. Adhere to your page on an angle and to the right of your layout.
11.  Add your gates to your layout using the hinges and brads to hold the gate to the page. You don’t need to glue them down in the middle.
12.  Adhere your tag to your black chipboard tag and tuck it under the photo and gate. When happy with its position adhere it to your page.
13.  From your sheet of Grammar School cut out enough letters to spell your child’s name. Use some of your left over red Bazzill and cut it to 1+ 1/4 inch by 1+ 5/8 inch squares to mat your letters with.

Photo 10 (1)
14.  If you have a chipboard number then ink it and glue it to the middle of your Penny farthing bike. Add it to your tag over lapping the gate, use foam mounting tape.

Photo 11 (3)
15.  You can now add your letters overlap them along the gate.
16.  On the tag you can add your journaling and date.

"I'm a working mum, managing an apprentice programme for a UK based car manufacturer  during the day.  I have two great teenage boys, a very supportive partner and live in the very centre of England not far from Stratford upon Avon. Since I was very small I've had an interest in all things crafty, something I think I inherited from my mum. In my 20's I took up cake decorating, inspired by a friend who made my 21st birthday cake and went on to teach basic and advanced sugar craft for 20 years at my local college.  I had great fun teaching others all the techniques they needed and how to make sugar flowers for  that special cake for a family occasion. Seeing people discover hidden talents they never new they had is really rewarding. My interest in scrap booking started about 7 years ago, when a new crafty shop opened in  town.  I had to go in lol, and came out with a few essential items, some papers and a couple of books and then set about creating two 12 x 12 albums for my boys adding journalling to the photos.  I really enjoyed capturing the memories and sharing them with the boys, and they loved their albums.  Last year I thought I'd make a mini album for my youngest son after a holiday in France.  It was very basic but I had great fun making it. I joined the crafting community on You Tube earlier this year and found the Graphic 45 paper collections. Inspired by the era they're based on, the colours and designs, I brushed up on my album making techniques and started making photo albums. The boys think I'm completely addicted... perhaps I am.  I did get carried away one friday night making my Magic of Oz album and was really surprised when I looked out of the window to see the sun coming up. I'm really enjoying discovering my creative spirit. Sharing creative ideas with other you tubers and once again helping others to discover their own hidden talents." -Clare Charvill

Just in time for the holidays, here is an astonishing Christmas Emporium mini album and video. So many fun photos get taken during the holidays. Let Clare's wonderful mini help inspire ideas for your holiday photos! A gorgeous mini album like this one would be the perfect way to immortalize your cherished holiday memories!

Yes, all of us here at the Graphic 45 office are getting together for some delicious food, dessert and holiday cheer. It's always a lot of fun to kick back and celebrate, especially on a Friday! We thought we'd share some of our holiday cheer to you on this fine Friday. Today we've got some magnificent crafts by Nicole Eccles and Sherry Cheever of our design team. They're going to show you some fantastic projects that you can create from common objects around the house! You know how much we love upcycled and altered art here at Graphic 45! Creations like these are so much fun to create and they make amazing gifts! But before we get to the crafts we want to announce the winner of this week's blog prize! Chosen at random from this week's blog and Facebook comments, our winner is...

-Pam Spradlin

Congratulations, Pam! Please email us with your shipping information at info@g45papers.com to claim your prize! Big thanks to everyone who left us comments this week! Check out this amazing prize that Pam won! We have a new blog prize every week so there's always a chance to win with Graphic 45!

Okay, lets get crafting! Check out this astonishing fairy block by Nicole Eccles. This is a darling example of what you can create using a few basic items and Graphic 45 products! We just love how she used our Ornate Metal Door Knobs and Metal Buttons as mushroom tops! How clever! Here is what Nicole had to say about the inspiration behind this joyful work of art! She also includes some helpful tips so you can create one of your very own!

"This is a wonderful project to create during the dark days of winter!  It would make a fun handmade gift for a friend to help brighten their days!   Super simple to create with just a wooden block, giant bottle caps, spools, copper refrigeration tubing and the magic of Graphic 45 products!  To create the mushrooms, just cut a small piece of copper tubing to length, add a little E600 to your Graphic 45 Doorknob, or metal buttons and slide the tubing over brad bottoms.  It’s really just that simple!!!  Create any kind of scenes using your own handmade mushrooms, just make sure to adhere them firmly, they are a little top heavy!  I could just see a whole printer’s tray filled with Once Upon A Springtime fairies and mushrooms for a certain little girls room...marks the Christmas list..." -Nicole Eccles

Next we have this fabulous upcycled recipe card holder by Sherry Cheever. Thrift stores and garage sales are awesome places to find neat little boxes like this one which can be made into something extraordinary! Or maybe you have an item in your home right now that can be transformed into a beautiful gift using Graphic 45 products! Sherry Cheever has some great tips for creating this sweet recipe box. You wont believe how easy it is to create something gorgeous and heart-felt with a few simple tips and lots of love! Take it away, Sherry!

This is how the recipe card holder looked in the beginning after sanding:

SherryCheeverRecipeBoxBefore

Using Americana Lamp Black Paint, the box was painted inside and out.  After drying a follow-up coat of Claudine Hellmuth Studio Charcoal Black Paint was painted on.  The edges were sanded in various places, and then highlighted with Vintage Photo Distress Stain.

SherryCheeverRecipeBox

A Graphic 45 Metal Tag was added to the front with hot glue, and Graphic 45 Metal Buttons were added to the bottom for feet.

SherryCheeverRecipeBoxBottom

The original hinges on the card file were replaced with Graphic 45 Metal Hinges.

SherryCheeverRecipeBoxBack

Flowers were die cut with Spellbinders Grand Peony and Carnations Creations die templates.  The petals were shaped with a bamboo skewer and the flowers were assembled with Matte Accents.  A corsage pin was inserted into the center of each flower in order to have something to hold onto when dipping into UTEE (Faux Porcelain Technique).

Blogs We Love & Part 2 of Gloria's December Daily Journal

Hello Gorgeous G45ers,

We've got another fabulous day of craft inspiration to share with you today! Thank you all for stopping by! Today is very special indeed. You all know how much we love to see your Graphic 45 creations on our Facebook page, Ning site and website gallery. Well today we're going to share the work of two very talented Graphic 45 fans: The Gentleman Crafter and Linda Cain. They have both created some astonishing work that you're sure to love! Plus, Gloria Stengel of our design team has another edition to her December Altered Journal Tutorial!

This first featured artist and blog is from Jim, The Gentleman Crafter. He's quite active on our blog and Facebook pages and you can't help but notice his awesome and clever crafting style! Jim was introduced to Graphic 45 products by our very own design team member, Laura Denison. Laura always has so much going on with her blog called Follow The Paper Trail, Ning site, YouTube channel and weekly Ustream classes. It's impossible not to get hooked on Graphic 45! Jim has created this amazing masterpiece, a Graphic 45 traveling wine case! Here he describes his inspiration for this awesome craft and gives some fun tips for you to enjoy! We also highly recommend you check out his blog. You wont believe your eyes!

"It's a fully functional Traveling Wine Case.  Fitted with a "Graphic 45 wine cork", cork screw/pull, napkins, wine journal, two glasses and a bottle of wine!  LOL!  Something that one could give as a gift for so many things.  Hostess gift was what I originally thought.  I always see the romantic side in things and thought how cool it would to receive this, find a beautiful spot with a view, open the wine with someone you love and just relax soaking in the beauty of the countryside. And everything you need is there.  Just grab some cheese, grapes and a crusty loaf of bread. I had a blast coming up with new ways to use Graphic 45." -The Gentleman Crafter

Gentleman Crafter Wine Case, Graphic 45

The Graphic 45 paper used for the lid and the base are Globe Trotter and Transatlantique.  For the interior I used, Bon Voyage, Timely Point of View, A Fine Specimen and Globe Trotter again for the straps. For the lid I used several Graphic 45 staples: For the handle I used the Metal Hinge Staples. For the lid the Ornate Metal Door Plate and Knob Staples. On the corners of the lid, I once again used the Metal Hinge Staples to not only decorate the corners but add extra support to the box lid.  I uses the Metal Button Staples for added interest on the door plate.

Gentleman Crafter Wine Case, Graphic 45
.
Gentleman Crafter Wine Case, Graphic 45

For the interior fitted lid I used, the the Metal Flower Staples for the cork, and the Metal Tag staples to adorn the napkin pocket. I used the Globe Trotter paper and wrapped it around TYVEK to strengthen all the straps exterior and Interior.

Gentleman Crafter Wine Case, Graphic 45
.
Gentleman Crafter Wine Case, Graphic 45

I think one of my favorite things was the use of the of Graphic 45 Envelope Tag Staples.  I used them as straps and then threaded the eyelets with the Trim Staples to hold the wine bottle in place.  It really holds it quite securely!!

Gentleman Crafter Wine Case, Graphic 45

As an added touch to the glasses I glued a Metal Flower Staples and button to the outside of the glass.  The box sits on four of the Metal Button Staples as feet.  When I added the straps to the base,  the box needed to be raised up to accommodate the brads and the thickness of the straps.  The buttons were the answer! I just had so much fun designing and creating this.  I hope you like it as much as I do.

Next we're featuring a lovely Christmas Emporium 5x5 Altered Art Box and coordinating mini album by Linda Cain. Linda's work is just marvelous and her blog is full of great tips and lots of eye candy. We totally love her warmth and talent! Definitely check out her blog called Friends in Art and behold some magnificent crafts and lots of inspiration. Check out this festive altered art box! It's a holiday dream!

You'll see some gorgeous pieces that are perfect for holiday decorating or gifts for the ones you love! And the great thing about holiday home decor is that you can reuse each piece year after year! It's the gift that keeps on giving! So lets get started!

This first marvelous creation is by Sherry Cheever. It's a wonderful Christmas Emporium shaowbox that is full of stunning dimensions and festive cheer. Just cut out a beautiful image from Christmas Emporium and adhere it with some Scrapbook Adhesives 3-D Foam squares to help give depth and life to your shabowbox! Next up is this lovely piece of decor by Melanie Forbes. Melanie has such an amazing eye for detail and you can realy see it in this fabulous creation. It's a holiday paradise! Melanie really knows how to set the scene in all of her work. She wanted to give credit to Kelly Creates Blog post where she used G45 Christmas Emporium to create 5 cards.  This helped inspire Melanie to create the Christmas tree and wreath from the Tim Holtz rosette die. Here is what she had to say about this vibrant holiday work of art! She also gives some fun and helpful tips for you to enjoy.

"I love creating mini scenes!! And it is so easy to do with G45’s latest range – I have been inspired by “Kelly Creates” cards and used her idea’s for the tree and Christmas Wreath. The little presents are mini dice and lid tops wrapped up. Look in florist supply shops for things such as the berries and crystal vine as well to help create a wonderful 3D scene to enjoy!" -Melanie Forbes

Next up is this super cool tutorial by Tara Orr. Tara is famous for sprucing up items she finds in thrift stores. This is another classic tutorial where you'll find out how to turn an ordinary basket into a lavish and unique piece of home decor! Upcycled art is perfect for the holiday season. It's a fun and beautiful way to create something special for someone you love! Or dress up your own home in this one-of-a-kind treasure! Take it away, Tara!

"It was a few weekends ago, while out with my mom at the local shopping centre, that I came across the neatest piece of home decor I'd seen in quite some time.  I love just browsing through each and every section of department stores - furniture, wall hangings, nic nacs - you name it! Its always when you aren't looking for a particular piece that you find the coolest of treasures.  Well, it was on this day that I spotted an amazing looking vase.  It was so bright and full of colour and had the neatest look to it.  When I went to take a closer peek I noticed that the entire thing was made from paper!  PAPER?!  I can TOTALLY do that myself I thought!  So, as soon as I returned home I began playing with my On The Boardwalk Papers to see if I could figure out how this piece was transformed.

Please join me below for a paper-rolling tutorial and how I transformed a simple flower basket into a super funky conversation piece.  You can use this tutorial to alter pretty much anything you fancy - as long as it has a flat surface with which to work. The tutorial is VERY simple but VERY time consuming!  Enjoy!!" -Tara Orr

Tutorial:

You will need to cut several strips of patterned papers so that they measure 0.5 x 12 inches each.

Fold each piece of paper lenghthwise so that they are all now 0.25 x 12 inches each.

Begin rolling each strip of paper.  Be sure to hold each roll securely to prevent gaps and unwinding.
Graphic 45 Basket Tutorial Tara Orr On The Boardwalk

Half way done! Your paper roll should look something like this now.

Once you have finished rolling the entire strip of paper, add a small piece of strong, double sided tape to the end and secure.

Your completed paper roll.  You'll need LOTS of these (depending on how large your project is)
Graphic 45 Basket Tutorial Tara Orr On The Boardwalk

Apply a generous amount of tacky glue to the bottom of your paper roll.

Adhere the paper roll to your project - press firmly for a few seconds to ensure it holds.

You can randomly apply your papers or opt for a specific pattern like the one I've created with the different colours.

Once you have completely covered your project surface with paper rolls, seal and protect it with a generous layer of mod podge

This first awesome card was created by Nicole Eccles using An ABC Primer and The Magic of Oz. The story behind this sweet card is amazing! Plus you can see some gorgeous examples of paper layering, paper distressing, and playful uses for embellishments in this great card! Here is what Nicole had to say about the inspiration behind this magnificent creation!

"Sweetest day is a Holiday mainly celebrated here in the Midwest.  Started around 1921, here in Cleveland Ohio by one man’s kindness and a group of candy manufacturers.  The first year it was created, over 20,000 boxes of candy were distributed to “orphans, newsboys, the elderly, and the less fortunate”.  Again in the 1940’s it was  proclaimed a national holiday and over 10,000 boxes of candy were distributed to chapels and children in need.  Today the idea of the holiday is lost, and is generally thought of as a “made up” holiday by candy corporations.  But I feel the whole idea was a very “sweet” one and think it should not be forgotten!  Plus who can resist a little candy? So make a little card, and don’t forget the sweets for someone in need of a little uplifting!" -Nicole Eccles

To create this gift card holder follow the steps below.

1. Cut cardstock to 10 x 5 inches, making sure it is wide enough to fit your tag. I am using a packaging tag measuring slightly smaller than 4 inches wide.

2. Score cardstock on the long edge at 5 inches.

3. Cut patterned paper to 4 7/8 x 4 7/8 inches. Attach to one half of scored cardstock. Use a hole punch or die cutting template to cut a notch at the top edge of your paper (the side away from the fold line).

1 Graphic 45 Christmas Emporium Album Journal Gloria Stengel

Part 1: Let's Get Started!

Each year many of us crafters create a "December daily" journal. Some of us want a journal with lots of space in which to write. Some of us want a journal with lots of space for photos. But, some of us want a journal that is more of an art piece, a decoration for our table. We want to add journaling and photos, to be sure! But we also want to be able to have a beautiful "coffee table book" to enjoy each year!

2 Graphic 45 Christmas Emporium Album Cover Journal Gloria Stengel

I love vintage items and enjoy making my own "vintage" pieces. This year I decided to make a December Daily in a vintage theme, using Graphic 45 papers. I wanted a journal that covered the entire month of December, since there are times when we have events, parties, and celebrations that happen AFTER December 25th! I also wanted something that would sit on my table each year; I wanted something pretty and festive! And I wanted YOU to be able to make a journal, too!
