For the Love of Lincoln: Layouts by Kelly Woessner

Hello Crafters!

Happy Tuesday and thanks for joining us for another fascinating day in craft land! Today is going to be interesting because we're featuring some crafts created by me, Kelly Woessner, the illusive writer of the Graphic 45 blog. I'm used to writing about other people's work here on the blog in great detail and with abundant accolades. Although when it comes to writing about my own work, I'll aim for a more demure approach. Working for Graphic 45 is obviously awesome because there is never a shortage of ideas and beautiful papers with which to create virtually anything you can imagine. Here are a couple of examples of some layouts I recently made with our new Curtain Call and Le Cirque collections. These were actually my first ventures into creating layouts, as I tend to use Graphic 45 papers for more abstract collages and card making. But I must say, these were amazingly fun to create!

This first layout features my hero Abe Lincoln. I'm a huge fan of honest Abe, and have a modest collection of Lincoln-related art, sculpture, and writing. I created this LO by using Curtain Call, Metal Flower Staples, and silk ribbon by May Arts. The hexagonal dycut cardboard in black came from a railroad board game called Age of Steam. Some friends and I recently bought this board game and when you punch out all the little game pieces, you are left with this interesting cardboard backing that retains these fascinating shapes. This is what I would call a happy crafting accident because these easily discardable pieces of cardboard are perfect for creating amazing projects. Behold, Mr. Lincoln looking so sharp in his very own layout. Applause!

This next layout was also created using the remnants of a board game! Yes, I play a lot of board games when I'm not writing the Graphic 45 blog. This game was called Jambo and had a lot of tiny circular and oval game pieces. Make a few precise cuts, add some May Arts ribbon, some colorful paper from our new Le Cirque collection, and the "Raising The World"  central image by 7 Gypsies, and there you have it! What was once just an ordinary piece of dycut cardboard is now a colorful piece of home decor.

RasingWorldLO11

Well, that's all we have for you today, crafters. I want to thank my awesome employers at Graphic 45 for encouraging me to share my work with all of you. Thanks again to all of you for joining us on this lovely Tuesday. Don't forget that our deadline for the Design Team call is today! We will announce our 25 finalists this Friday, March 4th along with this week's blog prize winner! Join us tomorrow for more craft inspiration!

Your Pals in Paper,

Team Graphic 45

Craft Happy: Blog Contest and Craft Tutorial by Jade Moore

Hello Crafters!

Welcome to another stupendous, fun-filled, inspiring week at the Graphic 45 blog! We are so happy that you are joining us because you are going to love what we have in store for you today! Jade Moore of our design team has created a marvelous pop-up easel frame tutorial that is just amazing. And we have another blog prize to reveal this week! We all know Mondays can sometimes be rough, so we're going to do our best to bring some happy craft cheer to your day.

So lets start with prizes, shall we? This week I've been thinking a lot about happy accidents when it comes to crafting. Sometimes our best ideas are the ones we stumble upon without intending to. Have you ever found a shabby old item at a garage sale and had a sudden burst of inspiration on how to dress it up into a beautiful altered object? Or have you ever started out with a deliberate plan for your project and then scrapped it half way through in favor of something completely different and better? Happy accidents can be some of the best aspects of creating. So this week we're asking you to tell us about one of your happy crafting accidents. When have you had that "Eureka" moment? Share your story on today's blog and you could win this amazing prize pack: A Le Cirque 8x8 paper pad, Metal Flower Staples, Alphabet Sticker Staples, and a set of gorgeous Hampton Art/Graphic 45 Curtain Call Cling Stamps. Share your inspiration and you could win! Yay! Winners will be chosen randomly and will be announced on Friday.

Okay, lets get to the crafting! I absolutely love this first craft by Jenny Svensson. Have a look at this fabulous altered object that Jenny made with our Curtain Call collection and gorgeous May Arts ribbons. I love the shabby-chic look of this lovely craft. So unique and beautiful!

Jenny_february_mayarts1

"I have made the angel wings for this little dress form out of steel wire, and then I wound one of the adorable ribbons around the wire to give it a little softer feel. I also made the big flower out of a piece of the fabulous silk ribbon. The dress form itself is covered with scraps torn from the Top Billing paper from the Curtain Call collection, and then I sanded it to give it a shabby look." -Jenny Svensson

This next phenomenal craft was made by Jade Moore. Jade has such a knack for creating lavish layers and textures in her crafts! Have a look at this marvelous frame she made by combining Once Upon a Springtime and Curtain Call. She also used our fantastic Graphic 45 Staples and pretty May Arts ribbons. The result is this super cute, and stunningly vintage treasure.

Let me tell ya the May Arts twine is fan-freaking-tastic it has metal in it so it STAYS WHERE YOU PUT IT!!! LOVE IT!!" -Jade Moore

Okay, lets get to the crafts. Today we're featuring the gorgeous works of Jane Tragenza, Tracey Locher, and Gloria Stangel of our Design Team. These great ladies have created some stunning projects today that will take your breath away. It's a cornucopia of craft inspiration! First up is the amazing Jane Tragenza. Have a look at her her beautiful layout using our new Curtain Call collection and May Arts Ribbons.

"I wanted to do a layout using Graphic 45’s new Curtain Call range of papers and the ribbons sent to me from May Arts where a perfect match. They kindly include some amazing ribbons, which I and the rest of the team would love to get more of. The black satin pleated  ribbon was to die for. I used it across the corner of my layout and place all the other ribbon embellishments I made along it.  I used some of their cream silk ribbon and ran a gathering thread along the edge and pulled it up tight to make a gathered flower. I made three flowers this way.  Another of the  ribbons was a sheer cream with a gold threads stitched along it. I tied a knot in it and cut it  so it had about half an inch each side of the knot. I placed one in the centre of each flower. Using another of their ribbons which was a green shot silk I made ends to look like leaves. The ribbons are so beautiful and soft. Included in the bundle was some coffee coloured ribbon that was perfect for tying a bow. The final touch was wrapping some of their gold wire around the end of a paint brush and using it as a curling twiggy thing! The whole layout turned out beautiful with a perfect combination of lovely papers and gorgeous ribbons. Who needs to buy an expensive embellishment when you can make your own." Jane Tragenza

"I am always looking for clever ways to present gift cards and this fun 3x6 inch "booklet" is perfect for holding a standard sized gift card! I cut two pieces of chipboard to 3x6 inches and covered them with Graphic45 paper. For the inside pages, I cut a sheet of Curtain Call paper to 10 3/8 x 5 1/2 inches. The paper is scored at 2 1/2, 5 1/2, and 7 3/4 inches. I tucked the gift card into a Graphic45 Envelope Tag Staples, which I attached to one of the inside pages. To hold the booklet closed, I glued some lengths of May Art ribbon to the back cover, and wrapped them around the book to secure it closed." -Gloria Stengel

Eye on the Prize: Blog Prize Announcement & Craft Inspiration by Tammy Roberts

Hello Marvelous Crafters!

A very happy Friday to you! Today is going to be super fun and fantastic! We've got this week's blog prize winner to announce, gorgeous craft inspiration by the amazing Tammy Roberts, as well as some updates for our Design Team call! Lots to do and lots to see. So lets get started!

First thing's first, prizes! This week we asked you to leave us a comment on Monday's blog telling us about someone or something that you love. We received so many beautiful responses, it was amazing. I wish I could give a prize to each and every one of you who shared your thoughts with us. But alas, we have but one prize to give. This week's random winner is Layne Mikoda. Here is what Layne had to say about her source of love.

"Above all, when I read your question, it was my husband who came to mind first ... the greatest gift the Universe ever gave me! This Valentine's is being spent alone but not entirely by choice as it was when I was happily single... My husband left Sat evening - my birthday, btw - to work on the opposite side of the country for the next year while I stay home... *sigh* On the upside? Another excuse to make more cards to send to him!!! *JOY* And the newest papers are FAN-freakin'-TASTIC!! The other loves who sprang to mind are my to-die-for ADORABLE niece & nephew... already working on cards for them with the new Le Cirque papers!!! With Gratitude, Layne PS Love G45 too!! ;)"

Big congratulations Layne! Please email us at info@g45papers.com to claim your prize. And many thanks to everyone who sent us comments this week. Your words are always a huge source of inspiration for us. Thank you for being such lovely people! There will of course be another chance to win a prize on Monday so stay tuned!

Okay, lets get to the crafting! Today we're featuring the stunning work of Tammy Roberts. These crafts are so pretty, its kind of unbelievable. Have a look at this gorgeous layout!

One last announcement for today. We've been getting a few questions about our 2011 Design Team auditions. Primarily we just want to clarify that if you are submitting your work to us, be sure to make a page on your blog that is just your submissions for the Graphic 45 Design Team call. One page that displays all the work you are submitting for your audition. Please don't send just a link to your blog. While your work may be splendid, it's much easier for us to get a sense of what you can do with our papers if we can see your submissions on one single blog page. You can then email us the link to your blog that has all your G45 work submissions on display. If you didn't do this and have already submitted your work, don't worry about it. You wont be disqualified. We just wanted to make it more clear for those who have yet to send in their work.

Okay, that's all for today! Thank you all so much for stopping by. We'll have more amazingly fun goodies for you all next week. We hope to see you again very soon. Have a wonderful, safe, and creative weekend!

Happy Happy!

You'll see a few different ways to use these new and amazing Staples to create all sorts of craft treasures. Have a look at this amazing altered clock that's covered in Graphic 45 paper and metal Staples. Timeless might not be the best word to describe this beautiful clock since it does keep time. But you can see the elegance of our classic papers and bountiful staples as they adorn this beautiful time piece.

This week, in honor of Valentine's Day, we want you to leave us a comment on today's blog telling us about something or someone you love. With all these amazing goodies, the possibilities are endless! A winner will be chosen at random and announced on Friday.

  Photo 2

It's been a while since we've had a featured store on our blog, and we're very exited to be showing you today's shop! Introducing Scrapbook Nook in Kent, Washington. One look at this sweet shop and you'll understand why we love them. But we'll let them tell you in their own words.

"We are located in Kent, Washington and are going on our 15th year in business.  We started out as a 2200 square foot store and doubled our space about 3 and 1/2 years ago. Now we are able to carry more of what we love, and make additional room for those paper lines which we couldn’t live without.  We are two moms who run a tight ship, and that’s one of the reasons we think we have been successful. We have a staff of 8 part-time employees and 5 teachers, one of whom Tim Holtz had featured in his Idea-ology booth at CHA this year.  We are hoping for great things for her!  Our staff is the best around.  They work hard to keep the store clean and organized, and try their best to help customers with their projects and answer their questions."

DSCN0006

"Why Graphic 45? Why NOT Graphic 45!  You “had us” at your first trade show, where we saw and fell in love with a paper decorated baby buggy and beautiful unique paper lines.  Friends of ours, David and Coni Larsen were helping in your booth and they strongly suggested that we bring your product into our store."

IMG_3485

"Our teachers use Graphic 45 product in classes. They are used on cards and pages that we sell in kits, make-n-takes, giveaways, and samples, samples, samples. The Graphic 45 blog and the community blog are SO helpful in finding beautiful projects to “scrap-lift” for display with the paper line. Thank you for that"

P1010320

"Our customers love that they can use Graphic 45 products for ancestry or heritage pages, and then turn it over and use the other side in so many different ways.  “Just beautiful”, “this is my favorite line”, “perfect for my projects” is what we hear.  I can’t imagine our store without it!"

Here's a peek at some of the glorious projects that the team at Scrapbook Nook have created with Graphic 45 products. So sweet!

Angelic: The Elegant Art of Darien Anderson

Hello Crafters,

Happy Friday! Today's blog is a treasure trove of wonders and we're so glad you stopped by! We've got a brilliant featured artist, Darien Anderson, and we're also announcing the winner of this week's blog contest! It's a double whammy of happy! So lets get to it! This week we asked you to submit a comment on Monday's blog telling us your favorite form of crafter, whether it be mini albums, layouts, altered objects, etc. This week's winner, chosen at random of course, is Michelle B of the Wandering Scissors blog. Here is what she had to say about her craft of choice.

"At the moment my favorite project to work on is altering those $1 birdhouses that you can find at JoAnn's. But my heart still belongs to cards and oh my, your new line would make some real beauties!
Thanks for the chance to win." -Michelle B

Michelle B, congratulations and please email us at info@g45papers.com to claim your prize. And thank you to everyone who submitted a comment this week. There will be more chances to win next week so keep those comments coming!

Today we are thrilled to feature the amazing work of Darien Anderson, a talented scrapbooker from Charleston, SC. We came across Darien's work several weeks ago and we were instantly impressed by the refined elegance displayed in each of her projects. Every detail of her work is so lovely and painstaking, as though conceived in an instant moment of perfect inspiration. Her eye for small details is impeccable, but so is her sense for open spaces. Her work is loaded with beautiful whispers of embellishments and layers, but also has an openness that instantly catches the eye. She displays both style and balance in her work that is unmistakable. And above all, her work overflows with a love of her subjects; her daughter and her family. One look at Darien's crafts and you can tell that she's an artist who adores the people in her life and wants nothing more than to express that love in her art. And truly, this is what scrapbooking is all about. Here are a few words from Darien herself!

"My name is Darien, I'm from Mexico city and I live in Charleston, SC. I am married to a great man and we have a beautiful daughter who is almost 3. I found out about Scrapbooking on 2009 when I was making an album for my daughter. My husband asked me why I didn't start a Scrapbook for her.  It was his idea about this hobby and thanks to him I got introduced to this beautiful world. When I first found out about online galleries and stores I was amazed by the beautiful papers, embellishments and the creations by all of you!  I couldn't get enough! Graphic 45 caught my eye right away! I'm in love with the vintage and timeless designs of G45. Who would have thought that I was going to become a featured artist of one of my favorite company's! I want to keep my family memories and have fun at the same time! You can see more of my scrapbooking work on my blog."
.
Have a look at these amazing examples of Darien's work. She's a big fan of our Steampunk Debutant, Le Romantique, and Botanicabella collections. Have a look these beautiful works of art!

.
We wish all of you a fantastic and restful weekend. Although sometimes I'm not sure what I'd rather have, a restful weekend or a productive weekend. If only there was a way to do both. Perhaps there is! I'll be sure to let all of you know when I've discovered that perfect balance. This might take a while.
.
Love and Happiness,
.

Dream Weaver: A Gorgeous Spring Layout by Jenny Svensson

Hello Crafters!

Welcome to another beautiful day here at Graphic 45. We wish you a very lovely Tuesday. I don't know about you, but the mid winter always gets me thinking about this year's garden. I've been looking out my kitchen window on these chilly days and dreaming about the beautiful flower garden that I know I will soon have. But for now, my backyard is just a pile of cold, sleepy branches. Daydreaming about planning a garden is one of my favorite parts about having a garden. A garden is kind of like scrapbooking. You start with an empty space and you slowly start to cultivate different elements until you have something that blooms and sparkles with beauty. Today's craft project by Jenny Svensson is just the thing to get you excited for Spring. It'll have you daydreaming about your next creation. Have a look at this spectacular LO that Jenny created with our Once Upon a Springtime collection, Envelope Tag Staples and Sticker Staples. So bright and beautifully layered, it's the perfect craft to help you conquer the winter blues.

Daydreams and Butterflies,
