One Clever Crafter: The Wonderful World of Sandy Diller
Hello Crafters,

We also have a new blog contest this week! Since we've been sharing our new collection sneak peeks, we want to know what collection or product you are most excited about! Of all the amazing new products that we have coming out, what are you just dying to get your hands on? Leave us a comment right here on the blog any day this week. We will choose a random winner and announce them on Friday! Yay! Take a look at this awesome prize pack you could win! A gorgeous Once Upon a Springtime 12x12 paper pad, Ornate Door Plate and Knob Staples, a Once Upon a Springtime cling stamp set, a set of beautiful foldover cards by Hampton Art, and a lovely flower stamp also by Hampton Art. Wow!
We are very excited about today's featured artist. Sandy Diller is a clever and innovative crafter who is always finding new ways to create. As you will see by the variety and quantity of her work, she has an amazing artistic aesthetic and isn't afraid to try new techniques. If you venture over to her craft blog My "Crafty" Life on the Internet you'll find a crafter's paradise. Not only does Sandy love to create, but she also loves to share her ideas and methods with her crafting community. There is no shortage of inspiration in Sandy's world. We are very pleased to introduce you to the amazing Sandy Diller!
I gave up my day job some time ago and came to live in sunny Arizona with hubby “Mac“. He is a fused glass artist and makes jewelry, masks and other beautiful things for the home. I have always enjoyed making things and giving handmade gifts. I have run the gamute when it comes to crafting with painting, sewing, jewelry making, resin work and rubber stamping.
Moving to a retirement community with lots of activities I set out to put my family photos in albums so joined the Scrapbooks & More Club. It should have been called Paper Crafts and Scrapbooks. We have a fantastic club with about 180 members. We meet on Mondays and do all kinds of paper crafting. I am embarrassed to say my family photos are still in boxes but I have enjoyed the meetings and making some wonderful items. I make and sell greeting cards through the club.
On one of our club “Field Trips” (shopping and lunch with the girls) we visited a shop called Mystic Paper. That was my introduction to Graphic 45 and it was LOVE at first sight. The themes conger up so many thoughts and all the lines work with each other so well. The fact that it is two sided is a fabulous bonus.
I love to alter things such as books, empty food containers & boxes. A favorite pass time is to look through the garage or go to Home Depot to find something funky and fun to add to my current project. The Good Will Store is another place I find great treasures. If it can be covered with paper, painted, embossed or altered in any way, it goes home with me. Sometimes it sits in my studio for awhile but it always gets used. Hope you enjoy looking at my most recent projects - Happy Crafting - Sandy Diller
Magic of Oz Extremem Altered Book
"When I started this project, I had an entirely different end result in mind but as most paper crafters know- some things just take on a life of its own. When I first saw the previews for the “Magic of Oz” I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I had my book, a dictionary from Good Will, all ready to go before the paper ever reached my doorstep. When I first started cutting into the beautiful Graphic 45 paper (which is so hard to do) the vision started changing." -Sandy
Supplies:
Graphic 45 “Magic of Oz”
Stampin Up Cardstock
Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Memo Pins, “Brick” embossing folder
A dictionary from Good Will & a bowl from my kitchen
Recycle Reuse
"Since I long ago gave up cooking and my husband has taken over I have found some new uses for things that once contained food. I really liked the shape of this container that once had a meat rub in it and decided that a mini book was in order. I have always liked clocks and use them often in my paper crafting. This one just happen to be the perfect size to fit the Weathered Clock die from Tim Holtz." -Sandy
Supplies:
Graphic 45 papers: CORE Impressions, Fashionista, Proper Gentleman
Tim Holtz Weathered Clock Die, Grunge Board, Grunge Paper, Word Key, Baubles, Hitch Fastener, Keyhole & Foliage
Recollections - leaves and pearls
Perfect Pearls
Spice container
Bolts, washers and nuts from the garage
Domestic Goddess Recipe File
"I had previously made this project using another theme for my Dad’s birthday in May and decided it would make a perfect recipe file. I started with a Reader’s Digest, hard cover, and folded all the pages in half, tucking the edges of the pages in the center of the book. I then covered the outside with Graphic 45 CORE Impressions and gave it a light sanding. The inside covers are decorated with one of the g45 Domestic Goddess papers. Using the Domestic Goddess papers I made some recipe cards and simply slid them between the pages. So easy and fun!" -Sandy
Supplies:
Graphic 45 Domestic Goddess Paper Line
Reader’s Digest Hard Cover
Tim Holtz: Metal Corners
Recipe Cards from sale bin at Michael’s
Sticker from Jolee’s
Le Cirque Wagon
"This piece was pretty simple considering I started with a naked wooden circus wagon that I found at Michael’s. After painting the bars on the cage silver the rest was a matter of covering everything with the Graphic 45 Le Cirque Paper. When every surface that could be covered with paper was covered I simply cut a piece of chipboard with the Tim Holtz On the Edge Die for the top. A gold Rosette with a medallion made of UTTE and a Krafty Lady Mold. Since it worked so well on the top, the same treatment was given to the wheels. A few painted tooth picks, some blue beads and the flags are in place. The poor sad lion inside is from the Magic of Oz line." -Sandy
Supplies:
Graphic 45 - Le Cirque Line and Magic of Oz Line
Wooden toy from Michael’s
Tim Holtz: On the Edge Die, Metal Corners, Rosette Die
Ranger: Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel
Krafty Lady Molds
Steampunk Debutant Clock
"Yes - It is a real clock! Sometimes there are happy accidents. I was playing around with some die cuts one day and the Weathered Clock Die fell on top of the Vintage Cabinet Die and it looked like a real clock. The pictures tell the story." -Sandy
Supplies:
Graphic 45 Steampunk Debutante Paper Line
Tim Holtz: Weathered Clock Die, Vintage Cabinet Die
Black rhinestones from Recollections
Chip board
Le Cirque 3-D Box
Steampunk Box
"I recently attended a class at the home of a friend and Scrapbook Club member. We set out to make an Advent Box or a Birthday Box. All items were supplied so I don't know where the box came from. Since I have no small children around these days and was not inspired to do birthday I decided to go with the Steampunk theme using papers from Graphic 45 (just love them). I covered the entire box with the beautiful paper and the drawer fronts inside as well." -Sandy
Le Cirque Mini

We have a lot of treats in store for you, including a new blog contest and some spectacular crafts from our design team. Today's crafts feature our fun and festive Le Cirque collection. Yuka Hino has created an adorable mini album, while Robin Shakoor has created one of her classic layouts and a marvelous tutorial. It's going to be an exciting day of inspiration!
This week's blog contest is simple. Just leave us a Facebook comment any time this week and you will be entered to win this wonderful Magic of Oz prize! It includes a Magic of Oz 12x12 paper pad, both beautiful chipboard die-cuts, and two sets of Magic of Oz cling stamps! We will pick a random winner and announce them on Friday, July 8th right here on the blog. You can leave a comment on any day of the week! Yay!
This first amazing creation was made by Yuka Hino. Yuka has such a terrific imagination and her crafts are always filled with clever ideas and loving sentiments. Check out this beautiful and fun Le Cirque mini album that she created. The photos she used for this mini are so amazing and sweet. They work perfectly with the whimsicality of Le Cirque!
"I decided to create a sketch based on my layout to share with you today. Sketches are both easy to use and serve as a great road map for your scrapbook pages. You can add your own unique touches to customize your design. As soon as I see a sketch I think of the many possibilities. Give it a try! We would love to see what you do with this sketch in the gallery at http://graphic45.ning.com. Hope to see you there. Be sure to use “June Mayhem Sketch” in your title….Remember, you can use the sketch with any of the beautiful Graphic 45 collections. It would be perfect with the new “The Magic of Oz” collection.” -Robin Shakoor
Before you begin, cut the images above from patterned paper and tag sheet. Set aside.
Layout Base – 12” x 12” - Le Cirque patterned paper. Use black side.
Cut a 10 ½” x 10 ½” square using Circus Parade patterned paper. Adhere to the center of the base layer. Now we will build the layers.
Adhere the pre-cut strip from Wizards of Wonders paper to the bottom of page as shown above.
Cut two squares using black card stock. The first square will be 10 ¼” x 10 ¼” and the second square will be 6 ¾” x 6 ¾”. Using your punch set, punch design around each square. Adhere the larger (10 ¾”) square to the center of the page. Set smaller square aside.
Cut a 7” square from Bohemian Floral patterned paper, round corners. Adhere to center of 10 ¼” square.
Adhere smaller punched black square (6 ¾”) to the center of the 7” square. Adhere photo to the center of page.
Here is your layered page.
Adhere the pre-cut Ringmaster to the right side of photo using foam squares.
Use “Controlled Mayhem to Dazzle and Delight” tag from tag sheet. Cut the tag in half. Place the “Mayhem” cut out in the center of the two pieces. Adhere to layout using foam squares.
Place Crystals above the title and beside the Ringmaster as shown in photo.
That's all for today, crafters. Huge thanks to Yuka Hino and Robin Shakoor for their phenomenal talent and all of their hard work today. We wish you all a wonderful 4th of July and hope to see you here again tomorrow. We have an extra special surprise in store for you on tomorrow's blog. You definitely wont want to miss this! Thank you for joining us today and have a great rest of the day!
