Happy National Craft Month From Graphic 45!

Hello Fabulous G45ers,

Happy Thursday and thank you all so much for stopping by our blog today! As some of you may know, March is National Craft Month! This is very exciting and we're going to be celebrating all month long! Even though we celebrate our love of crafting everyday here at Graphic 45, now we have even more of a  reason to celebrate during the month of March! So what great things will we be bringing you during National Craft Month? Great question! We'll be celebrating with lots of prizes, tons of inspiration, free project sheets and much more! This month is going to be chock-full of wonder and fun. So lets dish on all the details!

Lets talk about this month's fun contests! We will be hosting TWO weekly contests during March. That's TEN contests in all! Each week we will have a fun and fabulous contest on our Facebook page and Pintrest page. Here's how it will work.

For Facebook: We will be loading a picture each Thursday in March to our Facebook page. This picture will be a beautiful and unnamed project by Diane Schultz, co-owner and designer of Graphic 45. All you need to do is suggest a name for the project. Just leave a comment on the photo with your title idea. You could win the gorgeous project that we feature each week! We will choose a random winner each week and announce them in our newsletter and on Facebook!

For Pintrest: We will be loading an image on our Pintrest page of another beautiful creation by Diane Schultz. All you need to is help us give the photo a title by leaving a comment and repinning the picture on your Pintrest page! We call it the "Pin-It-To-Win-It Contest"! We will be chosing a random winner from Pintrest each week who will receive the gorgeous project being featured. We will also be announcing our Pintest winner each week in our newsletter and on Facebook!

We will be posting the pictures for each week's contest on our Facebook and Pintest pages at 11 AM every Thursday so stay tuned!

What else is in store for the month of Macrch? Each week will have a fun new theme on our blog. Tomorrow we will be announcing out first round of Design Team finalists! That's going to be huge! March 5th-9th will be altered art and home decor. March 12th-16th will feature gorgeous new layouts and some very special birthdays at Graphic 45. March 19th-23rd we will be all about mini albums! March 26th-30th will focus on beautiful card creations. Plus we will be announcing our Design Team Call finalists on Friday, March 30th! So much fun and inspiration! March is going to be terrific!

Leap Into Inspiration With Graphic 45!

Hello Glorious G45ers!

Happy Leap Day to you all! This wild and wacky day only happens once every 4 years so we thought we'd make the most of it by showing you some gorgeous crafts from our latest collection Olde Curiosity Shoppe! There may be some of you out there who as asking, "What is Leap Day and why is it so wacky?" It's an interesting story! The common perception is that the earth revolves around the sun every 365 days. Well it actually takes 365 days and 6 hours for the earth to revolve around the sun each year. What happens to those extra hours? Good question! Every 4 years we lump those extra 24 hours together to form Leap Day! As a result the month of February has 29 days instead of the usual 28! It's pretty cool! Today you will see some extraordinary creations from Yuka Hino, Melanie Forbes and Jack and Cat Curio using our eclectic and stylish collection Olde Curiosity Shoppe.  So lets get to it!

This first amazing craft was made by Yuka Hino. It's a fabulous layout that is full of all the wonder and magnificence of Olde Curiosity Shoppe. You can see some stunning uses of the Graphic 45 Metal Button Staples, Metal Hinge Staples and Geometric Metal Door Plate and Knob Staples! There is so much movement and charm in this lovely LO. It really captures the imaginative spirit of Olde Curiosity Shoppe!

Next up is this fantastic altered bird house by Melanie Forbes. You are going to love what she's done here! This is an amazing example of taking something ordinary and turning it into something extraordinary! With Olde Curiosity Shoppe the sky's the limit! Take a look at this plain old birdhouse. Then behold the magical transformation it underwent! Here is what Melanie had to say about this fabulous work of art!

"When I saw this birdhouse in my local hardware store I knew exactly what I wanted to do to it – make it into an odd Olde Curiosity Shoppe!! Using up all of my precious stock of Olde Curiosity Shoppe I have nearly finished it – just waiting on some more paper to finish off the towers on top!!!" -Melanie Forbes.

Spring Is In The Air With Graphic 45!

Hello G45ers,

Welcome to another magical day here at Graphic 45! Yes, it's that wonderful time of year when the first inklings of Spring begin to emerge. It's a super exciting time as the weather gradually starts to get warmer and the trees begin to bud with the first blooms of Spring. We're definitely feeling the enchantment here at Graphic 45 and we thought it would be fun to share some Spring-inspired crafts with you today. Gloria Stengel has prepared a some gorgeous cards and a fun tutorial that you're sure to love. We also have a stunning layout by Hilde Janbroers. Both of today's beautiful projects feature our Once Upon a Springtime collection that is just perfect for this time of year. So get ready for some amazing inspiration!

We also want to give a huge thank you to everyone who sent in their auditions for the Graphic 45 2012 Design Team Call. The deadline was on Sunday and we are so amazed by all of the applications. We got well over 250 applicants this year and it is such a joy to see the wide range of talent! Make sure to tune in on Friday, March 2nd when we will be announcing the Top 30 Finalists! Okay, its craft time! Behold this wonderful card ensemble by Gloria Stengel. Spring is a terrific time for creating lovely paper flowers. Today you'll learn a great technique for creating gorgeous flowers using the Spelbinders Presto Punch! It's a lot of fun and makes any craft creation spring to life! Check it out!

Cardstock: Bazzill, Neenah, American Crafts
Stamps: Our Daily Bread Designs, StampingScrapping
Ink: Clearsnap Colorbox Fluid Chalk (rose coral, chestnut roan), Memento rich cocoa
Embellishments: ribbon from the fabric store, glitter glue from Ranger Stickles, eyelets from We R Memory Keepers
Tools: Machines form Spellbinders (Grand Calibur, Spellbinders Presto Punch), Dies from Spellbinders (Labels Eighteen, Labels Five, Labels Four Small, Fleur de lis Accents, Presto Punch flower), Scoring board from Scor-pal, Crop-a-dile from We R Memory Keepers, Bow Easy from Posi-Bendr Company
Adhesive: Scotch 3M, Tombow

Spellbinders™ Presto Punch™ Machine
Spellbinders Presto Punch Starter Pack Punch Templates - Flower
Cardstock or heavy weight designer paper
Ranger Stickles Glitter Glue - Star Dust
Paper piercing tool
Sharp scissors
Glue (Tombow Mono Liquid or similar)

Step-1

1.Using the Presto Punch machine, punch 4 flowers with the flower punch template. 

Step-2

2. Cut one flower into a spiral with sharp scissors.

Step-3

3. Roll the spiral onto a piercing tool or similar.

Step-4

4. Glue the bottom of the flower to the rolled shape, to create a rose.

5. Cut a slit between two petals of flower #1. Cut out one petal of the flower #2 (it will look like a piece of pie).  Cut two petals from flower #3, as shown.

Step-5

6.  Wrap flowers 1, 2, and 3 into a cone shape and glue. Cut the points from flowers 2 and 3, as shown below.

7.  Assemble the rose by stacking each layer, and gluing together. Place the rolled rose into the cone created from flower #3

8. Once your flower is glued together, you may add some Stickles or glitter to it, or even spray it again with a sparkling mist.

Next up is this gorgeous Spring layout by Hilde Janbroers. This LO has all the vibrant colors of Spring and a heart-warming sentiment that's simply darling! Hilde did a wonderful job of layering beautiful Once Upon a Springtime papers and pretty embellishments to give this LO beauty and charm. Here is what she had to say about it!

"I tore off a piece of the blue paper so the kraft cradstock would be visible. Then I cut out a piece of the paper with the images and placed it on the layout. I matted the picture and let an image of a postcard stuck out underneath the photo. Then I added some chipboards and flowers. A quick and easy layout!" -Hilde Janbroers
