Here we have one of Robin's glorious Once Upon a Springtime creations! It's a stunning and adorable album. Here is what Robin had to say about this marvelous and cheerful work of art!

"The Once Upon a Springtime collection is my favorite for preserving childhood memories.  I  used the collection to create this altered mini album with a few select photos of of daughter.  My daughter will turn 20 this month and going through old photos of her was wonderful.  The cover is adorned with flowers, ribbon and beautiful detail cut images from the collection.  I also added a beautiful Graphic 45 door plate and knob that I painted ivory and sprinkled with glitter.  Adding this beautiful metal embellishment to your projects will give them a one-of-a-kind look that will last through the years.  I hope you enjoy this walk down memory lane with me." -Robin Shakoor

I absolutely love this photo which features one of the most amazing head pieces I have ever seen!  I used a monochromatic color scheme to best showcase my photo.

A Very Special Graphic 45 Birthday for Aimee Filimoehala!

Aimee-red dress

Hello G45ers!

Happy Wednesday to you all! We are thrilled that you are joining us on this super special day! Welcome to our grand Graphic 45 birthday celebration for the fabulous Aimee Filimoehala! You all know Aimee as the Director or Operatoins for Graphic 45, which is just as complicated as it sounds! Aimee is the go-to gal for Graphic 45, having worked tirelessly with her mom Diane and sister Charee to build Graphic 45 into the company it is today! Aimee wears so many hats for Graphic 45, we don't even know where to begin! So lets just keep it simple and start by wishing her a very happy birthday! Happy Birthday, Aimee! Today you'll to get to know Aimee with a fun interview as well as some gorgeous birthday-inspired crafts from Nicole Eccles and Gloria Stengel! It's going to be quite the celebration! So put on your party hats and get ready for fun!

First up is this great birthday interview with Aimee. Read all about it!

Aimee 1

1. What is your favorite color?
Red, it always has been.  I blame it on a pair of red clogs my mom bought me as a baby.  I loved those.

2. What sports do you like? (yes, dog shows count)
Being that I grew up a tomboy, I love all sports.  I would say my favorite is football. I am a die-hard Steelers fan.  Polamalu is my guy.  Recently, I have really gotten into dog shows. . . "Best of Show" anyone?

3. What are your favorite movies and/or TV shows?
As for movies, I love anything Wes Anderson.  My favorite movie is "The Royal Tennembaums."  And for television, I have always been a huge fan of Late Night TV.  Growing up it was Johnny Carson, and now my birthday twin Conan O'Brien.  Team Coco!

4. What are your favorite books?
Like many women I love Jane Austen.  My favorite being Pride and Prejudice.

5. What is your favorite dessert?

BIG-GUMMY-BEAR-1-1322663780

Gummies and all things fruity candy.

6. If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
A monkey. I would love to swing through trees.  Plus, I would have a phenomenal view.

7. What is your best birthday memory?
On my 8th birthday my oldest brother Ryan, who was a checker at our local grocery store, let me pick out anything that I wanted from the store.  I carefully selected a box of Pops cereal, which I rationed for months afterwards.

8. How will Henry (the Graphic 45 mascot wire fox terrier) be celebrating your birthday? :) Oh, and you - how will you be celebrating!?

Graphic 45 Mascot Henry

We are going to get haircuts to look our finest.  My birthday will be a full day of celebration.  Starting with pedicures with my best friend, Briana and my sister Charee.  Followed by Cirque Du Soleil with my boyfriend, John.  Then dinner with my closest friends at a delicious vegetarian restaurant.  Perfection!

Here are some warm birthday wishes from friends and family at Graphic 45!

"Happy Birthday Aimee! Thanks for all your hard work in keeping Graphic 45 running and keeping the Gummi Bears flowing." -Dustin Sims

"Aimee, you're the best. I hope your birthday is filled with lots of fun, dazzling treats and smiles galore. Here's to another year of Aimee-ness! Hooray!" -Kelly Woessner

"Aimee was born with both feet planted firmly on her own unique path. With enthusiasm and tenacity she has accomplished much with hard-earned wisdom, courage and compassion. I am so proud of her unconditional goodness and how deeply she cares about others. Today we celebrate Aimee and the amazing difference she makes in this world! How lucky (and grateful) I am to be her mother!" -Diane Schultz aka Mom

"A very happy birthday to my boss, best friend and sister.  I was born with one of the greatest gifts in life, a best friend.  Aimee has always been a loving role model, hard working with a  wonderful passion for life.  Everything I have learned in life I learned from my big sister.  Well, almost everything.  Thank you, Aimee, for being the best sister a girl could ask for.  Let us eat cake!" -Charee Filimoehala

This first fabulous craft was created by Nicole Eccles. It's a rotating carousel made from our Le Cirque collection! Wow! This creation is so incredible and fun. The details are simply dazzling! But don't take our word for it! Here is what Nicole had to say about the inspiration behind this triumphant work of art!

"The lazy susan carousel that actually spins. This was something I thought up last year right after making the team. At the beginning of the year it was my mission to complete it for this years tryouts, but I don’t think this one will fit in the box to ship this year around!! The finished piece measures approx 14'” high x 12 1/2” wide. Created out of a double layer food carousel, or lazy Susan. The double layer worked out better than I had planned making it extremely easy to create the roof top. Decorated ornately with dozens of tiny mirrors, 100 ‘s of gems and 6 different hand colored carousel animals. Each animal is double sided, both sides have been colored to match, cut out, then adhered together using pop dots. A painted food skewer was then slid between the layers of each animal to create their carousel poles. The center chipboard “post” has been sitting on my desk for a few years now, leftover from industrial cling wrap rolls..just something I knew would come in handy some day and couldn’t throw out! The finished piece probably took me way too long to create, but I am truly pleased with the results! I for see a circus inspired party in the future, and I’m already one step ahead with this interactive centerpiece!" -Nicole Eccles

Tropical Travelogue Layout Inspiration & Tutorials!

Hello Happy G45ers!

Welcome to our blog! We are so excited that you're joining us today because we've got some incredible projects and tutorials that you're going to love! Now that winter is behind us and the weather is heating up a little bit it's the perfect time to work with our gorgeous Tropical Travelogue collection! This sunny and vibrant collection is just perfect for this fabulous time of year! Here in Portland, Oregon we've had a funny phenomenon for the past few weeks where its been cloudy and rainy during the work week but warm and sunny only on the weekends. As long as we get some fun in the sun on our days off we're totally okay with this! Today we're going to share the love with three fabulous Tropical Travelogue creations by Melanie Forbes, Nancy Wethington and Jane Tregenza. There are even some fun tutorials that are sure to inspire you! So lets get to it!

This first lovely creation was made by Melanie Forbes. It's a stunning altered canvas that comes complete with a tutorial! This is such a fabulous idea for a gift or a heartfelt piece of home decor. Here Melanie takes you step-by-step through creating this endearing and gorgeously textured piece. Take it away, Melanie!

"I made this canvas as a gift for a 70th birthday – it is exactly 4 years since Gino left us and thought his wife would like something. So as it was a last minute idea I worked with what I had – the frame is simply a canvas and I have used the reverse. I always have modelling paste on hand and paints and G45. She cried when she received it. It’s special and it is easy!" -Melanie Forbes

Supplies:

Graphic 45 – Tropical TravelogueRain Forrest, Tiki Voyager, Exotic Destination
Graphic 45 Staples – Ornate Metal door plate and knob
Graphic 45 Colourbox Decades Dark Cashmere
Coredinations Graphic 45 Decades  black cardstock.
Petaloo Darjeeling Collection – Burgandy Assorted, Anemone mix, Petites All cream.
Twiddleybitz LOVE word
Flourish with a bling -  Pearl Swirl
Tim Holtz key and charm
15 inch square canvas
Kaisercraft Antique White paint
Bronze Metal Coating
Darkening Patina
Various shades of gleam wax
Modelling Paste
Mica Flakes
Unknown black flower – florist supplies
Chemist gauze
Mod Podge

Tutorial:

Take your canvas and flip it over – we are working on the back!! Grab your modeling paste, a butter knife and a mask… Using your butter knife randomly spread the paste on the border like you would butter – in the centre I have simply placed down the mask in a couple of spots and swiped thinly over the top with the paste before carefully removing the mask.

Let it dry for at least 12 hours. Then paint in coordinating colours. Here it is cream paint with various gleam waxes over the “masked” area and the “buttered” edge was paintin bronze paint and then patina over the top.

Melanie Forbes Tropical Travelogue Love always canvas 1

As this would be on display (and thinking dust etc) I mod podged as much as I could…meaning I used it like a glue – to glue down each sheet of paper as well as sticking the gauze where I would putting the flowers.

Cut a pile of leaves from Rain Forrest paper – love how good G45 is for fussy cutting! Doesn’t matter if you do too many – you will always use them and have them ready for next time!

Using Helmar 450 glue and scrap dots the rest was placed as per photo.

Next up is this bright and sunny LO that was created by Nancy Wethington. Tropical Travelogue was the perfect paper collection to pair with Nancy's stunning central photo from Spain. Just looking at this wonderful LO is like stepping into an island vacation! If you've had a vacation this year or if you're planning one for this Spring or Summer, think about how you could use your cherished photos in a LO like this! It's a great way to keep your memories alive. Here is what Nancy had to say about this fabulous LO.

"Having been in the event planning business for a number of years, I was able to travel to some remarkable places.  This photo is of Marbella, Spain - a gorgeous beach destination. After locating this photo, the colors screamed Tropical Travelogue." -Nancy Wethigton

Next is this fun and beautiful LO by Jane Tregenza. Here is another incredible example of using vacation photos to inspire a marvelous LO. You can see how beautifully Jane layered different paper patterns and colors to create a truly enchanting work of art. She has even created a fun tutorial to show you how it was done! Take it away, Jane!

"I love Graphic 45 papers and the way you can mix up collections and the colours still work. I like this kind of challenge when I scrapbook . This layout is one I have done for Josh, who travelled with me to the States this year. We had a great time at Disney land, where it is true that “magic still happens”. I have chosen papers from “play times past”, “Tropical Travelogue”, “On the Boardwalk”, “communiqué”, “Primer “and “ le Cirque”. Every time I do this  then teach the class, my students always say “I would never put those papers together”. That’s what’s great about Graphic 45, the different collections always work together." -Jane Tregenza

Glossy accents
Colour box French Blue and blackbird
Brilliance Pearl Olive
Stickles Platinum

Cut your black cardstock to10 ¾ x 11 ¾ inches. Keep the scraps as you will need it to back your 5 cent boarders.

Cut your Tiki Voyager to 10 inches by 10 inches

DSC_0045

Adhered your black cardstock onto your I think I can, Making sure you have the same amount of I think I can all the way around. Adhered your Tiki Voyager to the middle of your black cardstock.

DSC_0047

Cut the 5 cent board from by the beautiful sea. Adhered them onto the left over bits of your black cardstock so that you have a bit of black each side of them. Do all four pieces and put foam squares on the back quite close together. Add them to your page with a bit of the black cardstock showing on the outside, this will create a frame around your page. You will need to trim them back so they fit. Don’t put any foam in the corners just yet,  as you will need to glue your corners on and push a brad through them. Once you have done that you can add a foam square to the corners. My frame measures about 10 ½ x 10 ½ inches.

DSC_0050

Cut a piece of On the Dot to 5 inches by 8 ½ inches and adhered it to your page inside the frame near the bottom. Cut a piece of Le Cirque to 4 inches x 5 inches and adhered it to your page near the top left corner as shown above. Add a photo corner to the top left corner of Le Cirque.

DSC_0059

Cut a piece of On the Dot with the stripes horizontal 3 inches x 4 inches. Adhered it to your page as shown above. Add your photo’s, mine are 4 inches x 5 inches and I matted them in black cardstock. Add two piece of film strip and use brads to hold them in place.

DSC_0057

For my title, I used one from Imaginarium Designs. I inked with an olive green ink. Once it was dry I outlined it with Platinum glitter.  I used some small alphas and inked them with French blue and lightly touched them with a black ink pad. Once they were dry, I used Glossy Accents over the top. Once they were dry I glued them on top of the title “Magic”.

DSC_0058

To finish the page, I inked a Imaginarium Designs fence with French blue and again lightly inked it with a black ink pad. I waited for it to dry and added some glossy accents, only on the upright palings. On the rails in between I used Platinum glitter and did little dots. I added a square from Building Blocks, I used the letter J for Josh. I used it to add my journaling and chipboard numbers which I inked black.

Well that's all for today, G45ers. We hope you had fun and found lots of inspiration in today's crafts. Huge thanks to Melanie Forbes, Nancy Wethington and Jane Tregenza for their wonderful work. There is more fun in store for tomorrow so we hope you'll stop by and see us! We hope you all have a terrific Tuesday!

First we want to announce the winner of this week's blog contest! We had so many wonderful comments on our blog and Facebook page this week. Huge thanks to everyone who left us a comment. This week's winner was chosen randomly from our blog comments. And the winner is...

 -Debbie Peyson

Here is Debbie's comment from Wednesday's blog. "I love all the projects. What great talent. Your papers just keep getting better. Thank you." Thank you too, Debbie! Please email us with your shipping information at info@g45papers.com to claim your prize. Congratulations!

Well G45ers, as you know we're gearing up for our new 2012 Design Team. Right now at the Graphic 45 office we're getting together packages of product to send out to our new team. It's a big job but it is so worth it when you see the incredible crafts that get made using these fabulous materials. For the past few days we've been cutting ribbon, lots and lots of ribbon. Here you can see the big piles of May Arts ribbons that we're preparing to send out to our new design team. There is something so magical about seeing gorgeous ribbons delicately organized like this. It's like a ribbon buffet! So beautiful! We just had to share.

And now it's time for the cards! Today we have a wide range of cards from our design team that you're sure to love. This first card was made by Tara Orr using our vibrant Fashionista collection. This card has so many fabulous layers and incredible dimension. Plus it really captures the fun and elegant spirit of Fashionista. Here is what Tara had to say about it!

"I just love going back through older collections every now and again.  The bold and bright colours and designs found in the Fashionista Collection will never go out of style in my opinion.  I love pairing the more vibrant hues with a neutral palette as well - any kind of newsprint or text paper is fantastic for this!" Fun With Graphic 45 Metal Butterflies!

Graphic 45 Metal Butterflies

Hello Fabulous G45ers!

Happy Thursday to you all and welcome to our blog! We've got a great line-up of crafts to share with you today. We've had a lot of focus on our new paper collections here on our blog. Well today we're going to share with you some gorgeous projects that feature our brand new Metal Butterfly Staples! All of our Metal Staples are so gorgeous and fun to use. Today you'll see a wide range of projects that demonstrate some fabulous ways to use our Metal Butterflies to create something extraordinary!

We are totally falling in love with Spring right now. As many of you know, the Graphic 45 office is located in Portland, Oregon. It's one of the rainiest states in America and by the time Spring rolls around we are in desperate need of some sweet vitamin D. We're just now entering the most gorgeous time of year when the flowers are starting to bloom from every corner of the city! All the trees, shrubs and grasses are the most vibrant and fresh color of green. Ferns, which are all over the place in Oregon, are starting to unfurl with fresh new leaves. And right now there are 13 gorgeous tulips in the front yard of G45 blog writer Kelly's front yard, just waiting to bloom with lavish colors! The image below is not an uncommon sight these days in Portland; beautiful flowers blooming next to a wall covered in fresh moss. Spring is a really big deal to us Portlanders! It's very exciting! In other fun Graphic 45 office news, we got a fabulous thank you package yesterday from a very happy G45er who had an outstanding customer service experience. She mailed us a wonderful thank you card and some handmade Graphic 45 cards that are just incredible! It was such a wonderful surprise! We always try and go the extra mile for our customers and it was so heart-warming to receive such a kind gesture of gratitude. So we're singing like the Spring birds at the G45 office today!

This first amazing creation was made by Jack and Cat Curio. It's a fabulous beezewax collage featuring An ABC Primer. This project is hantingly beautiful with its marvelous colors and textures. This is such an imaginative way to to amplify the wonderful vintage look of An ABC Primer!

Ranger Distress Ink-Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain,
Pearl Ex-green/yellow, turquoise oil paint, upholstery tack

Next up is this adorable layout and tutorial by Melanie Frobes. You're going to love this ultra clever LO that has actual moving parts! Here Melanie explains how she came up with the idea for this extravagant LO and she takes you step by step on how she created it! What fun! Take it away, Melanie!

An ABC Primer Layout

Supplies:

Graphic 45 ABC PrimerOne, Two buckle my Shoe, Jumping Joan, Games and playtimes, The Three R’s, School days, Grammer SchoolABC Primer, Chipboard Die cuts 1
Fiskars border punch – notepad
Scrapbook Adhesives 3D foam tape
Twiddleybitz chipboard apple and figure
Carolee Creations alphabet stickers
Basic Grey chipboard alpha’s

Whilst putting away last year’s school photo’s I realised my youngest daughter Chionia has had her hair in plaits for the last 3 years worth of school photo’s – totally unintentional but I thought it would be a unique way of scrapping this years photo. So how did I go about it..…. by using a spinning wheel.

  An ABC Primer Layout

I cut 3 circles with the top circle (Black pattern circle) being slightly smaller than the bottom one (Spotty red circle). In between these two layers I cut the third circle from plain black cardstock an inch smaller than the top one. This cardstock circle is what the photos will be attached to.

Graphic 45 ABC Primer school LO FEB12 Melanie Forbes (2 of 16)

On the top layer circle I cut out the hole in which the photo would peek through making sure it was straight in relation to the LO. The bottom red circle was attached to the LO.

Graphic 45 ABC Primer school LO FEB12 Melanie Forbes (4 of 16)

Graphic 45 ABC Primer school LO FEB12 Melanie Forbes (5 of 16)

I then placed the middle and top layer over the larger bottom circle using a brad to hold it all in place temporarily. Using the hole on the top black circle as a guide, I stuck down the 3 photo’s on the cardstock circle (middle layer) evenly spaced apart by spinning the bottom circle. Tabs were then attached to the black cardstock to assist in spinning the photos. Remove the brad and top black pattern circle. The cardstock circle with your photo can then be attached to the LO with the brad. Ensure that when placing this feature on your LO that no embellishments get in the way of the moving tabs.

Graphic 45 ABC Primer school LO FEB12 Melanie Forbes (8 of 16)

Next I placed the main school photo onto part of the pattern black top circle and added the title and chipboard embellishments before attaching it to the LO. This bit is essential. Work out where the spinning tabs start and end and this is where you use lots of 3D tape  to attach the top circle to the LO to hide the workings on the spinning circle – if you attach it where the circle is going to spin then it will prevent it from moving around. On this LO the top circle is only attached to the LO in the bottom left hand corner.

Next we have this marvelous mini book featuring An ABC Primer by Nancy Wethington. This is another example of the fun and clever ways you can use this fun-filled collection to create something great! The fabulous colors, wonderful vintage schoolhouse images and a bunch of imagination yeilds fabulous results! Here Nancy explains a little bit about how she created this sweet book!

This is a 6x6 mini book using An ABC Primer.  I love this paper and think this booklet would make a great teacher's gift or a place to hold those end-of-the-year school photos.

An ABC Primer mini book

I stripped one side of the corrugated cardboard and used molding paste to rough up the edges.  Once the molding paste dried, I used Distress Stains and Inks (Vintage Photo & Wild Honey) to dirty it up a bit.  The center image was torn and inked and then framed with Alphabet Soup from the 8x8 paper pad.

It's the Graphic 45 Scrap Off!

Book-Open

Hello Fabulous G45ers!

Happy Monday to you all! We hope you had a great holiday weekend and got to enjoy some feasting and festivities! We are obviously huge fans of family holidays and sharing wonderful times with loved ones. And speaking of sharing, we have an incredibly fun blog and contest for today! You all know the fabulous Laura Denison from the Graphic 45 design team. Well she teamed up with another brilliant crafter, Kathryn from Life on the Scrap Beach! Together they came up with a fabulous idea for a project that's kind of an "Iron Chef" of crafting. Here, Laura Denison explains all the details!

"Kathryn Kreiger (Life on the Scrap Beach and Kathryn Scraps) and I first "met" via the internet a few months after I started paper crafting in 2009. We were both involved in Mini album swaps...though ironically we never were swap partners. Kathryn was a trailblazer in using Ustream to hold live crops and classes. I followed her lead about 5 or 6 months later and started teaching my own live Ustream classes. Today, we are two of the most watched Ustream paper crafting educators. In 2011, we teamed up for a National Scrapbook Day Ustream hop....we had so much fun! Kathryn also joined me on New Years Eve for my second annual New Year's Scrap Blast. Between us we had over 12,000 viewers over the two day extravaganza! We met in person at CHA in Anaheim in January of this year. While chatting one evening, we decided we wanted to do another collaboration, one using the exact same materials to create a project. I mentioned this at dinner with Diane, Charee, Aimee and the rest of the gang from Graphic 45. They jumped on board and provided the materials for us to create with. In the spirit of Iron Chef, we decided that we HAD to use one of the items.....the Secret Ingredient" which was chosen to be the 5x8 Kraftboard Altered Art Box." -Laura Denison

Want to win some of the main ingredients that Laura and Kathryn used for today's project? Just leave us a blog or Facebook comment any time this week! We will choose one random comment from either our blog or Facebook page and announce the winner this Friday! Check out this great prize! A Curtain Call and Olde Curiosity Shoppe 8x8 paper pad, Olde Curiosity Shoppe Alphabet Stickers and 5x8 Kraftboard Altered Art Box! Wow!

Here is my Scrap Off Project. We decided the Altered Box was our "secret ingredient" that we both had to use. Since I hadn't done much with the Curtain Call papers, I leaned it in the direction with the Olde Curiosity Shop papers and stickers adding pops of color.

Graphic 45 generously provided each of us with a Curtain Call paper pad,  Olde Curiosity Shoppe paper stickers, and chip board tags, as well as the 5x8 Altered Box, and assorted other Graphic 45 staples. Here is my "entry" into the Scrap Off, a Vintage Movie Camera. The back opens up to reveal an accordion Mini Album inside.

This was a fun project to work on and we both thank the always awesome people of Graphic 45 for their support and encouragement. We had soooo much fun!

Well she's still just as amazing and creative as ever! Kathryn used the same supplies as Laura to create these two incredible pieces: an album-in-a-box and a boxed set! Get ready to fall in love with these fabulous works of art!

About Kathryn from Life on the Scrap Beach:

Kathryn Krieger is a professional scrapbooker, mixed media paper artist and online educator. She strives to create unique works of art and practical tutorials to inspire paper crafters and memory keepers to create beautiful works of art worthy of their precious photographs and memories.

I used the 5"x8" Kraftboard Altered Art Box w/ Album to create an album in a box. I decorated this box with the "Olde Curiosity Shoppe" papers and embellishments. I really enjoyed the whimsical images and bright colors of this collection. It's perfect for creating a box of treasures!

To use the Curtain Call papers, I decided to make a set of three hardbound photo albums from scratch using these warm and neutral pages. The three books fit neatly into a chipboard sleeve, creating a boxed set of albums to display on a shelf. They look so polished sitting there!

About Tara:

I live in beautiful British Columbia, Canada with my gorgeous husband of 11 years and our three amazing kids.  They are the heart and soul of my projects. I am now a SAHM to my precious little kiddos but before that, I worked as a webmaster in the Technology industry for many years and loved it.

Random Facts about Me: I have a degree in Psychology, a green belt in karate, love horseback riding, order a grande dark from Starbucks almost every day, prefer chocolate to any other sweet, am the oldest of 3 siblings, gave up hope of maintaining my ‘Monica from Friends’ (as my husband would describe) cleaning habit once I had kids of my own, have earned more grey hairs and wrinkes in the past 7 years than I could have imagined and love my family more than anything else on the face of this earth!
I started scrapbooking in November 2008. Instant addiction. I love papercrafting. It challenges me, it relaxes me and it lets me escape into a world of creativity that I adore. If you want to take a peek at some of my work, please stop by my blog (http:/eachmoment-onlyonce.blogspot.com) for a visit – I’d love to have you!

About Gloria Stengel:

My name is Gloria Stengel and I live in Oceanside, CA with my husband Matt, and our three children, Nathan (20), Laura (16), and Jonah (11). Besides being “queen of the craft women,” I am also active in my church and I homeschool my two youngest children. (My oldest son has graduated and now attends college full-time.)

I live for exploring and creating with all sorts of mediums and products, thus I am always on the hunt for new ways to "make a mess." My motto is “seek out new crafts that you have never done before.” I love the thrill of mixing product lines into my projects, and I guess my style is quite eclectic. I enjoy the creative process, the discovery, and the “happy accidents” that sometimes arise during crafting time. However, the biggest thrill of this business is teaching and instructing others. When another crafter holds up a finished project and says, "Look what I made!" I get the biggest kick out of it, especially if I had a small part in helping them learn a new technique.

I've been on a number of design teams over the past few years, including Spellbinders (2011) and Graphic 45 (2010 and 2011), plus I create sample art for various companies and online stores. I've been published a few times and I have a blog called Scraps of Life, that is my creative link to the world  (www.gloriascraps.blogspot.com).

Here's a sneak peek of today's featured Tropical Travelogue project! Check out Gloria's blog to see more!

Gate-Fold-Fig-1b

You all know by now that I love to make gift card holders. A gate fold card with an inside pocket makes a quick and easy gift card holder. Creating a simple band to hold the card closed makes this simple project extra special. When you slide off the band and open the "doors" you see the surprise inside!

Gate-Fold-Fig-1c

1. Trim black cardstock to 5 x 10 inches. Score at 2 1/2 inches from each end. (Drawing not to scale)

Gate-Fold-Fig-2

2. Using a piece of cardstock 2 x 5 inches, create a pocket for the inside of the card. Add adhesive to the sides and bottom of the pocket. (Note: I covered the inside surface BEFORE adding my pocket.)

3. Cover all surfaces with patterned paper.

Gate-Fold-Fig-3

4. To create the closure band, trim black cardstock to 2 x 12 inches. Score at 4 7/8 and 10 inches.

Gate-Fold-Fig-4

5. Cover your band with patterned paper, and glue together. Make sure you don't glue it too tight or it won't slip off your card. You may need to adjust your band size, depending on how thick your finished card becomes.

Gate-Fold-Fig-5

6. Decorate your band as desired. I added a chipboard bike and a sentiment to my band. It's a simple project, but packs big impact, especially when you slip a gift card inside!

I also decorated the back of my card. It looks more finished that way.

Gate-Fold-Fig-6

We hope you all enjoyed today's big announcement and gorgeous card creations. Big thanks to Tara Orr and Gloria Stengel for their beautiful work today. For more card inspiration be sure to check out our Pinterest Card Pinboard! There's lots to see and tons of stunning ideas to inspire you!

We wish you all a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend! Thank you all for joining us!

About Paper Crafter's Library:

My name is Andrea Walford, and I’m the Creative Director and Founder of Paper Crafter’s Library. After spending 6 years helping thousands of paper crafters around the world become more successful in the creative space through my series of kits, digital tutorials and online classes, I began looking for a new approach to education.

While there were a number of sites that provided training on one thing or another, there was no ONE place I could go that offered comprehensive training on multiple techniques, tools, products and project ideas.  Every time I would look for accurate, thorough, well-presented information on products, I would find myself spending countless hours searching the internet for the information I needed.  Every time I wanted to learn a new technique or skill, I would find myself buying magazines & books, and signing up for workshops and online classes.

I knew that if I – an experienced paper crafter – was spending countless hours and thousands of dollars all in an effort to learn – there had to be lots of other people experiencing the same challenges and frustrations.

In 2011 – after a year of behind the scenes planning and work – I launched Paper Crafter’s Library – the first, and still to this day, ONLY website that provides an all-in-one learning solution for paper crafters. Whether your interest is in stamping, card making, scrapbooking, creating 3D items or altered art – you’ll find all the resources you need to navigate the world of paper crafting in ONE place, organized and indexed so that it’s quick and easy to find.

About Graphic 45:

Graphic 45 an award-winning scrapbook and paper crafting company— owned and operated by a mother and her two daughters. We offer vintage inspired crafting products that capture the flamboyant style of the 1920's and 30's - with vibrant color, irresistible texture and imaginative design to create products with decades-old appeal that's both fresh and familiar. Let our products inspire your next scrapbook layout, card, album or home decor project.

To start off the week, we have Graphics 45 Designer Lynette Carroll.   You will find a sneak peek of her project below, but first here is a little bit about Lynette:

I have been fortunate enough to be involved in the scrapbooking industry for the past 10 years.  I was an original Design Team member for K & Company, a position I held for 5 years.  When K & Company were bought out several years ago by EK Success Brands, I applied for, and was successful in becoming part of the newly created EK Success Brands Design Team, which included K & Company, EK Success, Inkadinkadoo, Dimensions and Martha Stewart Crafts.  I am currently a 2011 Graphic 45 Design Team Member.  I have also been a member of Cosmo Cricket Design Team.

Previous to designing and teaching for some of the industry’s leading manufacturers, I owned and operated my own scrapbook store in Boston, MA.

During my time with K & Company and Graphic 45, I have had the opportunity to travel and teach extensively throughout the United States, Australia, Holland and Japan.  I have taught classes at CKU, Creating Keepsakes Conventions, Archivers Scrapfest at Mall of America, CHA Trade Shows, Brisbane Papercraft and Scrapbook Expo and many individual scrapbook stores in the United States and Australia.

Tropical Travelogue Satchel Album

Carroll Project 1

To keep the Tropical Travelogue spirit going we wanted to share this gorgeous layout by Gloria Stengel! This amazing LO has such vibrant colors and stunning vintage charm. The gorgeous botanical images seem to bloom to life right off the page! So pretty!

"I used flower die shapes, flower petals, and Graphic 45 flowers to create all the flowers on this layout. There are no "pre-made" flowers! I used a Copic marker to color the Ornate Metal Door Plate. It looks stunning!" -Gloria Stengel
