Fun and Inspirational Book Tutorial by Jane Tregenza: Part 7!

JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Happy Tuesday, G45ers!

We are so excited to share the next installment of Jane Tregenza's book tutorial. Welcome to Part 7 of her wonderful, in-depth instructions for a gorgeous treasure you can cherish for years to come! This tutorial includes layering, composition, fussy cutting, tag-making and some great ideas and tricks from Jane. We are all in for a big treat today. So, grab a cup of coffee or tea, your scissors and supplies, and let's jump in!

If you have missed the other installments from Jane Tregenza's book tutorial, they are all here in one handy link:

Jane Tregenza 7th Page

All images, design, and instructions are copyrighted

An easy page with lots of fussy cutting

Please follow the instructions carefully. Read each instruction to the end before cutting. Lots of the
papers are used on the tags as well as for your pages, so you need to cut them the way I describe or you
will run out of paper! All chipboard has been sprayed black and cream spray paint. The flourish and
the word “you” need to be inked with Paprika. All papers have had their edges inked using Tim Holtz –
Vintage Photo and Colourbox liquid Chalk ink – Chestnut Roan.

Please note, I am only human and do make mistakes, I have taken every care while writing the instructions, and hope they make sense. It is quite hard to write instructions as I know what I mean; but this does not alwaystranslate into the instructions. If you are unable to work something out, then please ask a question in thecomments box at the end of the post and I will answer it for you as best I can. Or email me at jane@seriouslyscrapbooking.net.au.

Materials used:

4x Black Cardstock and ½ Sheet of Cajun

Colourbox Dark Brown ink Pad, Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink, Versa Cube Paprika

You need to have made your foundation page first (instructions below).

Black foundation Pages:

Instructions for creating a foundation page:

Each month you will need to make a foundation page. For this you will need two black sheets of cardstock.

Cut one to 8 ½ x11 inches- set it aside. Cut your second one to 9 ½ x 11 inches. Please keep the left over bits as you will need them later on.

DSC_0024

The 9 ½ x 11 inches piece needs to be scored, place it in your cutter at 8 ½ inch mark and score it, this will give you a one inch seam.

  DSC_0025

Completely fill in the one inch seam with strong tape.

DSC_0026

Carefully adhere the 8 ½ inch piece onto the 9 1/2 inches piece. Make sure you don’t go over your scored seam, or your page will not fold. Once you have it on, carefully fold the page over to check that it will shut.

  DSC_0028

Press firmly along the folded over piece, open up your page and check at the two pages line up nicely. Don’t worry if one of your pages is now wider than the other. You can trim it back to make them the same.

DSC_0031

You need to add some more tape along the join of your foundation page. Adhere one strip of tape along one side of the join and about an inch of tape on the other side of the join.

DSC_0034

A close up of the join with the tape each side. When you come to adhere your print papers, one piece will be an inch wider that the other page. The extra inch will need to be adhered over the top of the inch of tape on the foundation page.

Instructions for your 7th Page:

2JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

From your ½ sheet of “Extravaganza” cut 6 1 inch x 12 inch strips (if you can’t get this print then used on of Graphic 45’s other blue print papers- you could use Oceania or Tudor Rose-your print needs to be all over and not a stripe) Ink all the edges of your 6 strips.

3JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Add one strip at the top and bottom of the left side of your foundation page. One needs to be just down from the top and the other one just up from the bottom. I want you to have a small amount of the black of your foundation page showing at the top of your top strip and at the bottom of your bottom strip. They also need to be just in from the left edge. Remember to take the strips over the join in your foundation page for about an inch. Trim the excess off and adhere them to your page.

4JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Use your third strip and place it on the left edge of your foundation page. I found it easier to turn my page around so it was in front of me. Lay the strip down on top of your foundation page and trim it so it fits over the top of your other two strips. Adhere it to your page. Remember to leave a bit of the black foundation page showing.

5JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Fold your page over to set the crease in the middle of your strips so you can place the ones on the right side of your page. The right strips will need to go on top of the left ones and meet near the middle.

6JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Lay your first strip at the bottom of the right side of your page. Make sure it does not go over the crease line in the middle of your page. It wil be better if you can be a bit back from the crease line (to the right of it) and trim it so it fits on your page. Adhere it to your page. Repeat with the one for the top of your page. Use your third strip and place it on the right edge of your foundation page. I found it easier to turn my page around so it was in front of me. Lay the strip down on top of your foundation page and trim it so it fits over the top of your other two strips. Adhere it to your page. Remember to leave a bit of the black foundation page showing.

This is one way of adding a border around your page, but only using ½ a sheet of paper. It is quite easy to do and looks great on a page.

7JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Place your sheet of “Shanghai Girls” into your paper trimmer sideways and trim it back to 10 ¼ inches. Take it out and put it in your trimmer sideways and trim it back to 9 inches. Ink around all the edges.

8JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Cover the back of your sheet of “Shanghai Girls” with double sided tape or adhesives sheets. Peel a little bit of the backing off.

9JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Place your “Shanghai Girls” piece onto the left side of your page. Make sure you have the same amount of blue showing at the top, bottom and left edge of your page. Once you are happy with your placement. Peel the rest of your backing off and adhere it to your page. Remember it will go over the middle fold in your page about an inch.

10JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Fold your page over to place the crease in the middle of your page.

11JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Place your second sheet into your paper trimmer side ways and trim it back to 10 ¼ inches. Take it out and put it into your trimmer sideways and trim it back to 8 inches. Ink round the edges.

12JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Cover the back of your sheet of “Shanghai Girls” with double sided tape or adhesives sheets. Peel a little bit of the backing off.

13JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Place your second “Shanghai Girls” piece onto the right side of your page. Make sure you have the same amount of blue showing at the top, bottom and left edge of your page. Once you are happy with your placement. Peel the rest of your backing off and adhere it to your page. Remember it needs to be to the right side of the fold in the middle of your page.

14JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Add a photo corner to each corner of your “Shanghai Girls”.

15JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Place one of your sheets of “Endless Spring” into your paper trimmer sideways and trim it back to 9 inches. Take it out and put it in your trimmer sideways and trim it back to
7 ½ inches. Ink around all the edge.

16JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Cover the back of your “Endless Spring” print paper with adhesive tape or with adhesive sheets. Add a photo corner to the top left and bottom left of your piece. Remove only a little bit of your backing from your tape along the edge that will be in the middle of your page. Adhere it to your page. It needs to go onto your page to the left of the fold in the middle of your page. I found if I folded the right side of my page up a little bit, I could see the fold line better. Make sure you get it on straight. Once you are happy with where it is, you can remove the rest of the backing and adhere it down to your page.

  17JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Place your second sheet of “Endless Spring” into your paper trimmer sideways and trim it back to 9 inches. Take it out and put it in your trimmer sideways and trim it back to 4 ½ inches. Ink around all the edge.

18JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Cover the back of your “Endless Spring” print paper with adhesive tape or with adhesive sheets. Add a photo corner to the top right and bottom right of your piece. Remove only a little bit of your backing from your tape along the edge that will be in the middle of your page. Adhere it to your page. It needs to go onto your page to the right of the fold in the middle of your page. I found if I folded the left side of my page up a little bit, I could see the fold line better. Make sure you get it on straight. You should have a small gap in the middle of the two “Endless Spring” pieces where the middle fold is in your page. Once you are happy with where it is, you can remove the rest of the backing and adhere it down to your page.

19JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Your page should now look like this.

20JaneBookTutorialGraphic45

Now you need to make your frame for the title. Cut a piece of black cardstock to 5 ¾ inches x 8 inches. Cut a second mat of Cajun to 5 ½ inches x 7 ¾ inches. Adhere the two mats together. The next one to go on is out of black cardstock. Cut it to 5 inches x 7 ¼ inches. Adhere it to the Cajun. The final piece to go on is cut from your sheet of “Exquisite Motif (it is the blue pattered piece). Cut this print paper to 4 ¾ inches x 7 inches. Ink around the edges and adhere it to the middle of your black cardstock.

DSC_0065

Now this bit is important. You need to only put tape along on long side of your mat and only half way long at the top and bottom. I have my mat sideways to show you better. This is going to be a pocket on our page, so you must not tape it all the way around. You also need to make sure when you put it on your page, that the long edge with tape goes near the spine of your book.

DSC_0062

Place your pocket onto your page. It need to be in the middle of your butterfly print (same amount top and bottom), and about ¼ of an inch in from the middle of your page. This means from the right edge of your pocket to the edge of your page you will have about 2 ½ inches. The right edge of your pocket should have no tape on it!

DSC_0071

Use the smaller chipboard clock and ink it black. Find a photo to fit just in the middle of clock and glue it to back of the clock. Use the inner rim of the clock to adhere your photo to.

DSC_0066

Find the two wide pieces left over from your “Shanghai Girls” and tape them together.

DSC_0073

Adhere your clock to your piece of “Shanghai Girls”. Line up the join on your paper with the 12 and 6 on your clock. This will hide the join quite nicely.

DSC_0075

Cut around your chipboard clock.

DSC_0088

Paint your large clock cream. I always use spray paint for mine. Adhere it to the left of your page as shown.

DSC_0090

Add your photo and black clock over the top of the cream one. You will need to use a strong glue for this.

DSC_0080

Your page should look like this.

DSC_0083

From your “Butterfly Specifics”, cut out the following butterflies. You will see that each butterfly is numbered on the sheet. 3, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 21, 24, 26, 27, 31, 32, 40, 43, 46, 49. Feel free to cut out any of the other ones you like.

DSC_0093

You can add your butterflies in any order you wish. I used most of my bigger ones at the bottom and my smaller ones at the top. I wanted it to look like the butterflies are landing on the page at the bottom and flying off at the top! Attach each butterfly only in the middle of the body, so you can bend their wings up. Some of them you can layer a smaller butterfly on top of a larger one.

DSC_0222

Now its time to work on your pocket. Ink your words “LOVE, gives, Wings” all black. Again I used a black spray paint. Ink the “flourish” and the word “YOU” with a versa colour Paprika. Glue all the chipboard words to your pocket. Add a small butterfly to finish. I found my pocket was a bit flimsily so I added four blue brads to it. Each brad went through the whole page to adhere the pocket more firmly to my page. I put one in the top left and bottom left corner of my pocket (on the blue print paper). I measured across my pocket (from the left edge) to the 3 inch mark and added another brad, top and bottom. I didn’t want to add a brad to the right corners, as I want to be able to get my tags out.

The blue brads are such a great match that they are hard to see in the photo.

To finish my page I added some more brads. They are not shown in any of the photos as I did them after I had taken all the step by step shots. I put a cream brad in each corner of the “Shanghai Girls” I used the black photo corners to help me place the brad. You can see the cream brads in the finished page photo at the start of the tutorial.

DSC_0112

Now it’s time to make three tags to go into our pocket.

Mini Tags Tutorial

by Jane Tregenza

All artwork, images, instructions and design is copyrighted 2013

Instructions for creating the tags:
Please follow my instructions carefully, as you will need all the left over bits of your print paper and
cardstock.

Remember to ink the edges of all the print pieces, except the black cardstock.
Use some of your left over cardstock to make three tags. They are all the same size. Cut your black cardstock 3 ½ inches wide x 6 inches. You need three of these.

DSC_0105

Cut a piece of “Genuine Article” to 3 ¼ inches x 5 ¾ inches. Ink around the edges and adhere it to your
black cardstock. Punch two large circle out from “Genuine Article”. Adhere one to the front of your tag
and one to the back of your tag. Add a butterfly to the middle of your circle. Just glue the middle of your butterfly down.

DSC_0104

Cut a piece of “Genuine Article” to 3 ¼ inches x 5 ¾ inches. Ink around the edges and adhere it to your
black cardstock tag. Cut a piece of your black cardstock to 2 ¾ inches x 5 inches. Cut a piece of “Race for Time” to 2 5/8 inches x 4 7/8 inches. Adhere it to the middle of your piece of black cardstock. Use four photo corners and adhere it to your “Genuine Article”.

DSC_0108

Use some of your leftover pieces of “Shanghai Girls and Endless Spring”.

Cut a piece of “Endless Spring” to 3 ¼ inches wide by 3 inches high. Adhere it to the bottom of your tag. Cut a piece of “Shanghai Girls” to 3 ¼ inches wide by 2 ¾ inches high.

Adhere the two pieces onto your third tag. Cut a piece of black cardstock to 2 ½ inches x 5 inches.

The superb rustic charm of this amazing collection is amplified by Susan's wonderful use of Sunflower embellishments and Graphic 45 Metal Staples and Trim! This is such a fun project to create and it also makes a perfect gift! Here is what Susan had to say about it.

"I converted the small matchbook box into a mini box album. I cut apart the outer box, turning it into a hard cover for the mini album. The album is secured either by tying the ends of the Graphic 45 Staples Trim, or by winding the Trim around the Staples Metal Ornate Key Hole and Metal Button. Opening up the front cover, you'll find two mini albums attached to the spine via ribbon binding. This allows for the mini albums to be taken out of the box to be used separately, or for adding new mini albums when necessary. And if you like, the box has enough space to hold a couple of gift cards as well." -Susan Lui

RIMG2077 10

Today's first craft creation was made by Gloria Stengel using the new Graphic 45 Regular Tag Album Staples. She used French Country Cling Stamps and eight different Graphic 45 Staples in one tag! Isn't that amazing?! This is a wonderful example of how much fun you can have layering! The gorgeous cream, black and kraft colors of Graphic 45 Staples give this card such vintage-inspired elegance! You can also see how all of these layers help to give this tag such unique texture and depth! It's just lovely! Here Gloria takes you on a guided tour of this terrific tag!

Regular-Tag-Album

Gloria-Winter-CHA-Tag-1

The Graphic 45 Staples collection contains wonderful products to work with! I used eight (8) different Staples. Can you find them all?

I used one of the new Regular Tag Album Staples for my tag base.

Gloria-Winter-CHA-Tag-2

I created a flower with the Trim and Chipboard Button Staples.

Gloria-Winter-CHA-Tag-3

I painted the Metal Butterfly Staples with white gesso, and then stamped over the top with French Country stamps. The butterfly's body is a Chipboard Button and Stamped Metal Brad Staples.

Gloria-Winter-CHA-Tag-4

I clipped on some postage with a Metal Clothespins Staples. To make the word "timeless" stand out, I rubbed the pin with white gesso, and then I buffed it off. The gesso stayed in the impression, highlighting the text.

Gloria-Winter-CHA-Tag-5

I tucked Ornate Metal Key Hole and Key Staples among the flowers.

Today's first craft creation was made by Clare Charvill. It's a clock that she made using French Country and the Graphic 45 Small Matchbook Box! This stunning piece of home decor truly captures the elegance and vintage charm of French Country. We also love Clare's super clever use of the Small Matchbook Box to add some beautiful depth to this work of art. Next up is another super imaginative work of art! Behold this beautiful Olde Curiosity Shoppe keeper by Denise Hahn! This is such an inspiring piece because it so clearly demonstrates the fabulous results of uninhibited creativity. The richly saturated color pallet of Olde Curiosity Shoppe looks stunning in this cute keeper! It's the perfect collection for a one-of-a-kind craft like this one! Here is what Denise had to say about this magical craft.

"So what's a Curiosity Keeper? It's a funky little "holder" of sorts to collect things on. Things you may want to use in a project but are worried might get lost. Like that little tag you popped out but didn't use- just attach it to your "keeper" same goes for small bits of ribbon, trim, straight pins, or even your Metal Staples.  I love using wire and this is a fun and unique project is made with things just found around the garden shed. I used some wire fencing for the base, a little terracotta pot, and a little thrift store porcelain angel to top it off with. I used a 24 gauge wire to wrap ribbon and trim around the base. And how could I resist not adorning it with some embossed butterflies in flight? Hope you enjoy this unique take on using Graphic 45 papers." Denise Hahn

Last but certainly not least is this gorgeous altered canvas made with Tropical Travelogue chipboards, stamps and lots of beautiful Graphic 45 Staples. This amazing piece was made by Susan Lui and it is yet another example of shining creativity. There are so many amazing ways to use Graphic 45 products. Altered canvases like this one really give you the opportunity to expand your creative horizons. The rich colors of Tropical Travelogue are the focal point of this superb canvas, along with the dazzling textures of layered Staples and other gorgeous embellishments. The central photo is also so pretty! Creativity reigns supreme in this wonderful work of art! Here is what Susan had to say about it.

"Here's a mixed media canvas I created using techniques I learned from a recent workshop. The canvas plays on light and shadows and the use of textures and layers. I used the negative part of the Graphic 45 die cut chipboard as a base on which I built up the dimension on the canvas, layering it with lace, twill, flowers, leaves, resin, glass, chipboard and alphas. I used Graphic 45 Cling Stamps to add shadows around the canvas. At the 'light' corner of the canvas, I created a cluster out of Graphic 45 Tropical Travelogue die cut chipboards and Graphic 45 Staples Metal Ornate Key and Metal Ornate Key Hole." -Susan Lui

Hello G45ers,

The sun is shining and the birds are singing on today's Graphic 45 blog! We are delighted that you've stopped by to see us! Today we are taking you on a grand tour of some incredible layouts that you're sure to love! We all have fun photos that we cherrish. Photos help give us a visual narrative for the precious moments in our lives. And is there any better way to celebrate your memories than with a beautiful layout using Graphic 45?! All of today's LOs all contain amazing photos, but the joy of these moments are truly brought to life in the exquisite LOs you're about to see. There's a fabulous Place in Time LO by Susan Lui, a French Country LO by Tara Orr and a Secret Garden LO by Arlene Cuevas! Get ready to wrap your memories in love with today's amazing layout inspiration! Lets begin with Susan Lui's Place in Time LO! Susan recently took a fabulous vacation to Venice. Here you can see how she celebrates her journey with this remarkable and colorful layout! Here is what she had to say about it!

"Here's a layout I scrapped of my family's recent holiday to Venice. The colourful houses that form the background of the photo called for a colourful layout and I found what I needed in the Place In Time collection. I selected the yellows, reds and blues in the collection to reflect the yellows, reds and blues in the houses. I went for a shabby floral look, distressing all the edges and layering the photo upon a postcard image and an air mail envelope, over some muslin. The title 'Venice' is housed inside the Graphic 45 Staples Ornate Metal Label Holder. Finally, a little cluster of Graphic 45 chipboards and flowers adorn the top right corner of the layout." -Susan Lui

Next we have another superb work of art! Here is a gorgeous Place in Time tag by Clare Charvill. She used recycled Graphic 45 Staples packaging as the backing for this beautiful tag. Did you know that the new Graphic 45 Tag Album Staples are inspired by the gorgeous packaging of Graphic 45 Staples?! We saw so many amazing tags and minis being created with upcycled Staples packaging. This inspired us to create our new Tag Album Staples! Here Clare layered Place in Time papers and added pretty Graphic 45 Ornate Metal Keys to create this colorful tag that celebrates the month of March. Spring might be a ways away at this point, but its never too early to start dreaming about those Spring blossoms and sunshine! Join Clare in this fun and easy tutorial to create this tag for yourself or someone you love! Take it away, Clare!

G45 Feb project 1 Pic 9

This little tag was inspired by the fresh greens that start budding through in the garden at this time of year.  I combined the bright green of the Enchanted Garden paper from the Happy Haunting collection with the pretty cut a parts from the 12 x 12 and 8 x 8 March Place in Time paper and along with the 12 x 12 Foundation page for the same month designed this tag.  I used one of the backing cards from the Staples metal keys as the base

You can also use the new Graphic 45 Tag Album Staples in the Large size to create this same tag.
Large-Tag-Album

This is how I put it together.
Cut out the following elements:

12 x 12 Place in time March Cut Aparts
Bird and nest image
floral cream/violet matte 2 3/4" x 3 3/4"
One stamp
Green Betty Jane Border
Large lavender tag
Flower girl image
Bonne Fete border
From the 8 x 8 March Cut Apart paper
March notelet
Pansy Border
Two small stamps
First I Remove the plastic packaging from the backing card and ink edges.

G45 Feb Project 1 Pic 1

Supplies:
Staples Ornate Metal Keys packaging
Vintage Seam Binding
Brushed Corduroy, Vintage Photo Distress ink
Tacky glue, foam tape, glossy accents
Art Glitter - Simply Medallions pee wee pot
2" hole punch

The back of the tag:
Cut a matte 3 5/8" x 7 1/4" from the bottom right hand corner of the March foundation page (with the word March facing down).  Stub cut all four corners and ink edges with vintage photo distress ink.  Take the large stamp Betty Jane border, ink  all edges and wrap the border around the green matte at an angle, ink folded edges and stick ends down to the back of the paper. Add the stamp to finish before sticking the matte to the back of the tag base.

G45 Feb Project 1 Pic 2
Tag Front
Cut a matte 3 5/8" x 7 1/4" from the Enchanted Garden paper.  Stub cut the bottom two corners, cut a semi circle out of the top edge to fit around the Graphic 45 logo and
ink edges with vintage photo ink. Then take the Bonne Fete border,  fold it around the green paper so that it sits just level with the top of the stub cuts at the bottom of the tag and stick the folded ends to the back of the tag with tacky glue.

Take the bird and nest image, mount it on the floral background paper, put tacky glue 1/4" down the top left edge, the bottom edge and 1/4" in from the right hand edge and stick down to the green matte 1 1/4" from the top and 1/8" in from the left hand edge.

Not take the March notelet, ink the edges stub cut the top two corners and slide down behind the bird image from the top.  Stick the pansy border across the tag between the top of the bird picture and the bottom of the semi circular cut out, fold the edges over to the back of the green matte and stick them down.
G45 Feb Project 1 Pic 3

Take the postcard, fold in half wrong sides together, ink the fold line and the edges, and then curl over a pencil to give a wavy effect.  Then take a craft knife and cut up the fold line 1/2" from the bottom.  Put tacky glue on the back of the bottom right hand quarter of the postcard, slot the right hand lower edge of the postcard under the Bonne Fete border, Twist the postcard so it's at an angle and stick down.  Catch the bottom left corner down to  the matte with a spot of glue.

G45 Feb project 1 Pic 4

G45 Feb project 1 Pic 5

Now put two strips of foam tape on the back of one of the small stamps, ink the edges and stick at an angle to the bottom right of the postcard and Bonne Fete border.

Take the purple tag, ink edges and punch out hole.  Cut around the cream border on the flower girl cut apart, ink edges and stick to the tag.  Cut a 1/8" strip from an oddment of the green paper that matches the back of the tag, thread through a staples ornate metal key, and then leaving about an inch showing, thread both ends through the hole in the tag from the front and secure on the back with tacky glue.

G45 Feb Project 1 Pic 6
G45 Feb project 1 Pic 7

Now take the last stamp, ink the edges, put two strips of foam tape on the back and stick at an angle across the pansy border at the top right of the matte. Attach to the staples packaging so that the the top edges of the matte just touches the black line across the top of the packaging.

G45 Feb project 1 Pic 8

To finish off the tag edge the two stamps, postmark on the postcard and the bird and nest image with glossy accents.  Put tiny dots of glossy accents over the violets on the postcard and sprinkle mauve glitter over, and then over the frame around the bird and nest.  Leave to dry.

Letter "E" -I love making these Roly Poly flowers, they are so easy to do. Punch/cut/tear a circle, start on the outside edge and cut/tear to form a spiral. Take tweezers, starting on the outside edge that you have cut/tore start rolling it around the tweezers until you get to the center. Take of tweezers carefully and glue to the inside center of circle.

I made this from re-purposing a medicine cabinet I found at the thrift store. A few more of my Roly Poly Flowers and some flowers I stained with distress stains.  I love to fussy cut, so the Olde Curiosity papers were perfect for my box. Inside of the lid, always remember to decorate all sides, inside and out is my motto. Inside of the box, perfect for our remotes and a fun Pocket Album.

These projects are so much fun! Here we have An ABC Primer Altered Clock Stand and Book that Pam created. This is another great example of Pam's panache for clever papercrafting! She really captured the adorable vintage schoolhouse look of An ABC Primer in both of these gorgeous creations. Every page of the mini book is so pretty and heartwarming. You can't help but smile when you look at these crafts! Here is what Pam had to say about them.

My stand is made from a wooden clock stand that I purchased years ago to paint on but I like the concept of covering it with paper and using it as a stand for my altered book.  I fussy cut the little school girl out and added Glossy Accent to her bubbles to give them some dimension and then placed her on a small spool I wrapped with paper.  My fence is made from a piece of cardboard that I tore the paper from, inked and cut the pickets.

The Place in Time Collection contains wonderful images that are perfect for card making. I have decided to make one card for each month, using the Cut-Aparts.

Gloria-Winter-CHA-Cards-1

I used the same layout for all three cards, but each card is unique. I used the papers and images from the monthly cut apart sheets and added a few embellishments and a sentiment.

The January card is all about the cold weather. Doesn't it look frosty?!

Gloria-Winter-CHA-Cards-3

The inside of each card is decorated to match the month.

February is all about Valentine's Day.

Look at how wonderfully Gloria layered papers, created borders, added fussy cut elements and just the right amount of pretty embellishments to make every page a beautiful work of art! Here she takes you on a guided tour through this enchanting mini! Take it away, Gloria!

I created an 8x8 inch mini album with pockets for tags and photo mats for the photos. The album contains 16 decorated pages.

I used a Graphic 45 8x8 Easel Album Staples.

This is the front cover. I layered the papers to create the perfect French Country mini in which to add photos of my trip to Paris.

This is a close-up of the cover. I fussy cut the sunflower and then mounted it onto some of the Graphic 45 lace trim.

I inked the chipboard and then stamped the French Country image over the top with Twinkle Watermark ink

Each page of the album contains photo mats and journaling tags. I decorated the front and back of each of the pages for a nice, chunky book!

I created a pocket across the bottom of the page and tucked journaling tags into it.

Maikomiwa-alady'sdaiary-alteredbook6

Hello G45ers,

Happy Thursday to you all! We are so glad you've stopped by our blog today! We have some gorgeous crafts to share with you to help brighten your day! We are celebrating the wonders of altered art on today's blog! We have two stunning projects from Sharon Ngoo and Maiko Miwa! Everybody knows that altered art is fun to make. There is such a feeling of joy and satisfaction from taking something ordinary and turning it into a unique and beautiful work of art! Let today's wonderful crafts get your creative gears turning. What kind of altered art would you like to create? Are there ordinary objects around your home that could use a little vintage charm? Why not dress them up in some gorgeous Graphic 45 papers and embellishments! Lets begin today's altered art party with this amazing Place in Time altered 8x8 Matchbook Box by Sharon Ngoo! You are going to love this sweet creation! It's a Family Mail Box! This is a wonderful way to craft with our Matchbook Boxes to create a darling treasure that the whole family can enjoy! Here is what Sharon had to say about it!

Matchbook-Boxes

"I like tinkering around with boxes and slicing them up to see what else I can turn them into. So I decided to have an adventure and 'slice up' the 8X8" Matchbook box. I removed the upper half of the outer cover leaving only the bottom portion and decided it would make a cool holder for paper and pencils.  The idea evolved from there and so I ended up with a Family Mail Box - a place where family members can leave notes for each other - complete with little mailboxes for each person and a place for papers and pencils too!" -Sharon Ngoo

CHApicture

Hello Joanna! You play a very special role at Graphic 45. You are constantly involved in our Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and other social media marketing. What do you love most about your role as our social network wizard?

It's the most amazing job ever! I love the world of social media and how much fun all those sites are! I get to know our followers everyday, pin on Pinterest (yes, that's part of my job - squee!), I get to come up with fun ideas for our newsletters, and most of all, I get so excited about seeing the Design Team knock my socks off with their papercrafting prowess! This job has truly given the meaning to "Do what you love, love what you do." Our G45ers are truly the best and it's an honor to get to know them through social media. And I love helping with our giveaways - there's nothing better than making someone's day with some Graphic 45 goodies!

We've noticed that you've been influenced by the world of papercrafting since you came to work for Graphic 45! What kinds of crafts inspire you the most? Do you want to share some examples of G45 projects you've created?

Oh my goodness, I'm obsessed now. I love altering things, making fun paper embellishments, and making cards! I've always loved crafting, but papercrafting is a whole new level of fun I had never experienced before! I'm still a beginner, but it's fun to see improvement since I've begun. Our Design Team is a major influence on me and my developing style. I go to our blog and Pinterest and get so many ideas. Also, I just love playing with our new collections. Sneak peek season makes me a happy lady!

Word has it that you are a big fan of theater and music! What has been in heavy rotation on your stereo lately? Are there any plays that you've seen recently that really knocked your socks off?

Oh my, where would I be without music and the arts? I actually went to college to study theatre, so it is a big part of my life! I've taken a break from the stage for the most part this past year, but therefore have gotten to see so many amazing shows! Highlights of 2012 would be, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner by True Colors in Atlanta, A Wrinkle in Time at Theatrical Outfit in Atlanta, and seeing my new ultimate favorite Once on Broadway this past year in NYC!

As far as music goes, there's not a day that goes by that music doesn't bring me joy! On heavy rotation around the holidays is Sufjan Stevens. As we get back into the regular rotation, I love me some Shovels and Rope, Dan Deacon, Grizzly Bear, and who doesn't love some Top 40 Dance tunes every now and then?

Your birthday is so close to the New Year! That must be fun! What are some of your happy hopes for the year 2013?

I love the New Year and the sense of purpose it brings! This year, I have been training for a 5K. I am the world's worst runner (with asthma included), so this is a big step for me. And I've actually really enjoyed it!  Hopefully, I'll make it through the race. :)

A constant goal of mine is to Stop, look around me, and be grateful! A new quote I love is "Stop the glorification of Busy." That's the new goal for 2013!

Stop-the-glorification-of-busy1

You live in Atlanta, which is a stunning city! Do you have any fun plans for a night on the town for your birthday?

Well, I get the honor and joy of being in sunny Anaheim at CHA this year for my birthday! So, I will be celebrating in our beautiful Graphic 45 booth with the G45 family. When I get back into town, I'm hoping to celebrate with my husband and closest friends. I love Atlanta and know there will be lots of fun places to visit in celebration!

This is last year, when my friends threw me an 80s Murder Mystery birthday party. It was pretty fantastic!

A card like this is sure to brighten the day of a friend or loved one! Here is what Clare had to say about it.

"When I saw this collection for the first time it was the sun flowers that jumped out at me.  Their gorgeous faces remind me of my sister who through the most terrible illness has somehow still managed to keep smiling and bright just like the sunflowers, so I made this card with her in mind." -Clare Charvill
