Last Minute Sweet Tricks

In just a few days Halloween will be over for another year.  Until then, we know there are still parties and trick or treating left to enjoy!  We wanted to help you with some last minute “sweet” treats.

Suzanne Sergi:

Featured Collection: Blackbird

I found black plastic cups on sale at the grocery store. I knew when I saw them they would be perfect for tucking bags of my favorite treats, caramel chews and candy corn. I punched a hole on each side of the cup, with my Crop-A-Dile. I then attached a piece of  black wire to create my handle. I added a few twists to add some character to the handle. Using the Blackbird Collection, I lined the inside of the cup with patterned paper, and cut strips so that they would be overflowing at the top.
I used my die cutting machine to create the label, and using the Blackbird Stamp Set, I stamped my sentiment, and stamped the twill ribbon. Last, but not least, added a black plastic spider to the treat cup. These are perfect, and inexpensive favors for my daughter to hand out to her classmates.

VERY simple cards....

By using some of the flocked papers in the HAUNTED Paper and Accessories Kit (HAU111) and making the printed designs the main focus of each of these cards, I was able to knock off a few simple cards in less than 10 minutes each! I added a few of the die cut elements, decorative brads (HAU113) and vinyl stickers to finish them off. I even used one of the sentiments from the Haunted Stamp Set (HAU115). Adding a bit of the Black LUSH Ribbon (LU1055) was the perfect finishing touch on these very simple cards!

(Halloween 2009)

I’ve shared this tip before, but it’s awesome, so I’d like to do it again.  You’ll thank me for it, I promise!  *wink*

I take my kids Halloween pictures a few days before Halloween.  We usually go to either my husband’s Grandma’s yard (which is where these were taken) or a local shopping village with awesome decorations.  We also go with a friend of mine and her kids.  They love getting dressed up early and getting in character.  We buy them cookies after as a reward for their cooperation.  This way you know you have good shots and when you are taking pictures of the kids actually getting ready and leaving for trick-or-treating you are not a stressed out photographer looking for that magical shot because you already have it (or, in my case, as close as I’m going to get to it).  You can just enjoy the moment and try to capture the excitement.  Then, later on, as you scrapbook be sure to scrap both sets of photos.  But, most of all, you want to be able to enjoy the excitement of the evening as much as the kids (young and old) do.

The entire crew at My Mind’s Eye would like to wish you a safe and Happy Halloween!

Blog Challenge 16: Winners!

What a wonderful collection of entries we had this time!  There is a lot of inspiration in our Blog Challenge photo album (be sure to look at both pages).

Winner: Letty Ochoa

Letty Ochoa_SAM

We LOVE this layout – everything about it!  How genius of Letty to add jute/twine as a circle element!  We love the combination of Portobello Road and Union Square.

Honorable Mention: Gerry van Gent

Gerry van Gent_So Tweet

Isn’t all the stitching Gerry did amazing!?  Gerry didn’t have a MME black piece of paper and the closest store is 70 miles away, so she hand stitched in black for her black element!

GREAT JOB, Ladies!  Please email amber@mymindseye.com with your mailing information and the collection(s) you’d like for your prize.

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to enter our challenge.  We appreciate your support of My Mind’s Eye!

Caught our Eye - Blackbird

This cute Halloween house, designed by Kelly Feldman, “caught our eye” from our Facebook fan page.  We love all the wonderful details Kelly included like the pumpkin and vampire in the window.  Kelly also cut apart the swirly border and used it as smoke from the chimney.  Thank you, Kelly, for sharing your project with us today!

Bewitching projects

Bewitched Halloween Banner by Suzanne Sergi

bewitchedbanner

bewitchedletterw bewitchedletterd

bewitchedlettere bewitchedletterh

Designer: Suzanne Sergi; Featured Product: Haunted

One of my favorite projects to create are banners. For my "Bewitched Halloween Banner" I used my favorite Halloween Collection by My Mind's Eye, Haunted. I love the simple combination of black on the Kraft paper. A perfect combination for your Halloween Decor. I added bits of purple to compliment this color combo. Many of the papers have the beautiful flocked artwork on them. So I cut carefully around them, centering the piece of the image onto my note die, and cut. A very easy way to embellish the panels.

I added a lot of this & that on each panel. I also had fun with the Haunted Decorative brads, as you can see on one panel. I simply used my leftover brads to embellish the circle on the letter "H." It is embellished heavily with the brads, but added a little eeriness to the project.

A quick tip to adding embellishments to your page, is to simply stamp and ink! Stamping is an inexpensive way to add interest, and character to your projects. A simple, and inexpensive technique especially with the Haunted stamp set.

Banners are the perfect finishing details to your decor. A small canvas with so many possibilities!

Blackbird Candelabra by Amber Packer

Designer: Amber Packer; Featured Product: Blackbird

I love the whimsicalness (is that a word?) of the Blackbird collection!  I love how the chipboard is pre-glittered and the brads are awesome!  I think that Blackbird can also be sophisticated.  When I was designing the fireplace mantel for Good Things Utah at the beginning of the month, I found this cute candelabra on sale for $4.00.  Could I resist it?  Of course not!

What a fun project this was!  I simply used mod podge to adhere the paper to the chipboard candelabra.  Then I glittered the candles with using black glitter.  When the glitter was dry, I popped the backs off the Blackbird brads and adhered them to the candle bases using a pop dot.  I then punched holes in four small Blackbird chipboard pieces using a Crop-A-Dile, added the jewels using jump rings and add the dangles to the candelabra using jump rings.

I hope you enjoyed this!
