Create like Shanna

Hi there!  Shanna here with the last of my May guest design team projects to share with you.  I’ve had such an amazing time this month creating with My Mind’s Eye and can barely believe the month is almost gone.

I was asked to “showcase my style” today.  I had NO IDEA what to create at first because I love to play and dabble with everything scrapbook related. But one of my favorite things to do is to make different projects that go together or complement each other.  Shanna_Housewarming Party Ensemble Shanna_PartyFavorShanna_HousewarmingCenterpiece Shanna_You'reInvitedInvite

This little ensemble was created with a friend in mind who just relocated and will be having a housewarming party very soon.  Once she gets unpacked and settled in of course.  I used the oh-so-yummy-Lime Twist collection to create a centerpiece, an invitation, and a little tag for the party gifts or favors.  FUN RIGHT?

Shanna_AdoreYouLayout Shanna_AdoreYouLayout2

This layout is pretty special to me.  This is my sweet husband Shane and I.  I rarely scrap photos of me but I made an exception since this photo has him in it too. HA HA!  I love the rich golds, grays, dark blues and teals in this Stella and Rose line.  Especially paired up with my sepia toned photo.  I was inspired by the long, skinny, dimensional sticker that says “How do I love thee?  Let me count the ways.”  I created a pocket out of the journaling tag to place many skinny strips of paper mentioning all the many reasons why I love my hubby.

Shanna_CallMeCard

This “Call Me” card was just a fun quickie inspired by the fun Stella and Rose chipboard elements.

Shanna_OneAndOnlyLayout

This layout using “American Made” completely tugs at my heartstrings.  This is my handsome “One and Only” son Brody.  Poor kid is seriously out- numbered in our home with 6 sisters.  It’s been so fun to scrap layouts with things other than pink and flowers and butterflies on them.  I loved the banner from the American Made elements sheet but I needed to customize my title on it to work with my layout and photos.  This is why it looks different than the one that comes with the papers.

Yummy Lime Twist Collection...

One of the latest collections from My Mind's Eye, "Lime Twist" truly makes my heart soar! I love the colours, patterns and fabulous embellishments... they are all simply scrumptious!

IMG_7908

Today I am sharing with you a layout that I created using an assortment of the "Fly a Kite" set of papers, die cuts and stickers. I love how versatile the collections are. At first glance most would think of using this particular set with photos with a rather juvenile theme yet I chose to use them to showcase a photo of my husband while we were on vacation in Hawaii last month.

IMG_7910

I created a multi dimensional REVERSE mat (popping it out from the back side of the layout), I stitched around the frame with the Lime Twist Floss (how cool is that stuff??? I LOVE IT!!!).

IMG_7904
Then I popped up several stickers and die cuts on the top side of the layout to give it the lumps and bumps that I adore on a scrapbook page.

I hope that this project gets your creative juices flowing... check out the Lime Twist Collection at your local scrapbook store and I have no doubt that you will be inspired to create many layouts of your own!

Happy Scrapping!

Trisha

Journaling Spots

My Mind's Eye collections are full of different journaling tags. They are fantastic to hold our journaling. However, they also can make wonderful additions to your pages! On this page of my son, I used the large journaling tag, as the base for title. On top of the tag, I added another circle journaling spot. Instead of adding a date, or name, I added a number sticker. For extra detail, I also ran it through an embossing folder.

Also, journaling spots are wonderful to add a simple stamped word, or border. On the left hand side of the page, I cut a border journaling spot, and added a simple wavy border using the Adore stamps from the Lost & Found Collection. There are so many possibilities with journaling spots, and they do make fantastic details to your pages.

As I was looking through my photo box this weekend, I couldn’t help but notice the excessive amount of wallet sized photos I had. When I print my pictures I like to have a set of wallets because I just love working with that size.  Especially if I want to enhance a larger photo on a layout.  But with my Grandma’s or “Nana’s” birthday coming up quick…. I hit me that these little wallets would pair up perfectly with all the fabulous Journaling Spots from My Mind’s Eye to create a small little Brag Book gift.  So here it is…. Can’t wait to wrap it up and ship it to Nana!

Mother’s Day layouts

Shanna Vineyard:

Shanna_YouAndMeTogetherLayout

Featured Collection: Stella & Rose

I didn’t have any recent photos of my kids and I together but when I saw this adorable photo that my friend Renee took, I just knew I had to scrap it!  This is our friend Angela and her sweet boy Sims.  She’s a single Momma and a Southern Belle by the very definition.

I’ve watched her over the last few years that we’ve known each other and love the relationship she and Sims have.  That’s what was so awesome about this photo to me….. you can see the happiness they share.  Little Sims, with his arms tightly wrapped around his Momma like he’s never letting go.

I hope when I’m older that my kids will still want to be near me and hugging on me like they still do.  That’s all I want.  That’s what will tell me if I’ve been a great parent…… I want my kids to stay close to me.  (Thanks for the sweet photo Renee, Angela, and Sims!) It was fun scrapping it and thinking about my own role as a Mom.  Oh…. And in case you don’t notice…. I created a fun tag for Angela to write a note to Sims on and it’s tucked in behind the photo.  Some Hidden journaling if you will.

Anam Stubbington:

One of the greatest gifts in my life in my Mother-in-law. She is a blessing to me and my family and I often tell people that I got the best deal in the end – the best mother-in-law in exchange for a not great childhood. My Mother-in-law is the one I trust with my children should anything happen to me, she is the one i go to for advice and she is the one who has stood with me during some of the toughest times.

Often I make layouts with blank spots for the photos simply because the photos haven’t happened yet due to distance or timing but I had the emotional time to spend to make the layout. In these all I have to do is add in a photo when the right one is on my camera.

Jana Eubank:

Featured Collection: Stella & Rose

I had the sweetest Mother's Day this year. My kids woke me up singing "Happy Mother's Day to You" to the tune of "Happy Birthday" and then showered me with flowers, cards and letters, and chocolate strawberries for breakfast. Mmmmmmm! I treasure the letters my kids give to me, they always say the sweetest things and I didn't want them hiding away in a box where I would rarely take the opportunity to look at them. Instead, I decided to add them to our family album by creating a pocket page. Creating a pocket page is easy! Simply use adhesive on three sides of your pocket layer so that you can slip your items underneath the top edge. Add stitching, staples, or brads along the three sides for additional strength. Finally, continue your design on the front of the pocket, just like you normally would for any other scrapbook page.

Featured collections: Stella & Rose Gertie collection, Banner Stickers from Fine & Dandy Tickled Pink collection.

Trisha Ladouceur:

Trisha_Mom day layout

Here is my layout to remind myself that everyday is a gift as a Mom. I don't need fancy gifts, flowers or even breakfast in bed to know that I am so blessed to have these young men as my sons (although I NEVER complain if I do get spoiled...lol!).

What I love most about My Mind's Eye is that so many of the collections works so very well together, the colours carry over nicely from one collection to the next making it easy to use the new with the old! In this particular project I used The Hip Hooray, LUSH 2, Fine and Dandy (boy and girl collections) and even some Stella & Rose ribbon. Seeing as this layout is also for ME (and also because the colours worked with the ones my boys were wearing) ;) I used the feminine colour pallettes and hopefully didn't make it too girly. I personally think it works and hope you do too!

Silhouette Wall Art

SilhouetteSilhouette_cu1 Silhouette_cu2

While window shopping trying to come up with a project for today’s Good Things Utah segment, I came across this amazing frame (I picked up another, similar frame, too – oh, the possibilities) and figured I’d better snag it up.  I had intended to save it for later, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized the chippy frame would look amazing with the clean, bright colors of Lime Twist – Fly a Kite

With the traditional silhouette making a comeback, I thought using Lime Twist – Fly a Kite would be the perfect way to add a modern, colorful twist on an old classic!

As usual, I have included instructions.  Click here to download: Download 2011_05_10_MME_Silhouette Art

And, we will upload the video and add it here when it is available.

I am loving the versatility of our Lime Twist collection – too much fun!

{I}NSD 2011–Tamara Jensen

Tamara_Flowers cardTTamara_Mother cardT

One of my favorite songs that I remember my mother singing is “I Often Go Walking”.  A beautiful and touching song that closes with the line: ”Dear Mother all flowers remind me of you”.  My mother is a wonderful gardener and her home is always adorned with lovely flowers and roses.  I have so many memories of her daffodils and tulips in the spring, roses in the summer, and mums in the fall.  She taught me to love and appreciate nature and the the fragrant gift of flowers.

I found these cheerful pink zinnias for her Mother’s Day gift and had to create a card to go with them!

I chose the timeless and vintage Stella and Rose “Hazel” collection.  I hand stitched the flowers from MME ribbons and accented them with a Lost and Found button and Lush brads.

Needless to say, we both cried as she read her card today – such a special moment with my dearest friend!

Mother's Day Frame

As most grandmother's do, my mom absolutely adores her grandchildren. For Mother's Day each year I try to create a project for my mom that incorporates a current picture of all nine of her grandchildren. This year I chose to alter a frame for her scrapbook room. She recently repainted it a beautiful, deep plum color and I just know that the NEW Lime Twist Happy Go Lucky collection will be the perfect compliment to her paint color.

I chose a frame that has seven 4 X 6 openings. I decided to add a sentiment to the center opening and then use the surrounding openings to house the grandkids' pictures.

JanaEubank_GrandmaFrame1

I used my Cricut Expression Die Cut Machine to cut out the lettering for the center opening. I love the way the colors POP against that dark blue houndstooth pattern of the "Together" Dotty Paper. A Turquoise Lush Button adds a friendly accent to the die cut heart.

JanaEubank_GrandmaFrame2

As I composed the design for the remainder of the openings, I treated each square individually, almost like a card, or miniature scrapbook page. The coordinated papers and die cuts tie everything together and make it a snap to put this project together.

JanaEubank_GrandmaFrame3

Lime Twist Twine and Lush 2 buttons/gems add a bit of dimension without feeling overly fussy.

JanaEubank_GrandmaFrame4

This project came together much quicker than I expected, thanks to all of the coordinated papers and elements of the Lime Twist collection. And the great thing about this project is that you can find these types of frames almost anywhere these days. Pick one up next time you're out and about and give one a try! Any mom or grandmother is sure to appreciate a collage of cute faces!

Have a Happy Mother's Day!

Jana

Welcome Shanna Vineyard

Hi there!

ShaneShanna2RESIZE kidsDec2010_picnik

My name is Shanna Vineyard and I am super-stoked to be guest designing with My Mind’s Eye this month!  It’s also my birthday month so what a fun HAPPY BIRTHDAY gift to get a box of MME goodies to play and create with!  My Mind’s Eye happens to be one of my MOST favorite manufacturers in the industry so when I tell you I am STOKED….. HA!

Okay….. I’m not very good at talking about myself but here goes….

I have a HUGE family.  I am very blessed.  I am married to an adorably loving hubby named Shane.  We had both been married previously and had 5 girls between us when we joined forces a little over 4 years ago.  We have since had two children of our own.  So we have the whole “His, Mine, and Ours” thing going on.  Here’s our kiddos’ names and ages….  Bailee 13, Macey 12 (in a few weeks), Kacie 11, Cassidy 9, Karlie 9, Brody 3, and our sweet little caboose Chloe who is 18 months.  So yeah…. In case you weren’t counting…. 7 children.  Boring is NOT a word used to describe our daily life here.  Between Soccer, basketball, cheerleading, church activities and school functions….. one would wonder WHEN EXACTLY does a mom like me actually GET to scrapbook?   To that I say…… BEDTIME is a religion here.  HA HA!!!  My husband has a little song or jingle he sings called, “best time of the ni-ght”.   Our kids don’t really appreciate it much but when Shane starts singing the song about 8pm…. I can’t help but giggle.   After they are all snug in their beds….. Momma gets to work!  I do get some snuggle on the couch time with Shane some nights too.  Our favorite shows are House, Supernatural, American Idol, and I love the Bachelor.

When I do get to create I enjoy doing work for the two Design Teams I am on.  I also enjoy submitting my work to print publications and using my scrappy skills to help my girls’ with their school projects!   I also love to cut wood on my scroll saw and combine my love of paper crafting with my love of wood crafting.

I’ve been blogging at http://mynextthirtyyears.com/ for the past 8 years but recently moved my home on the web to http://artmadewithheart.blogspot.com/    Come by and say hi!   Thanks for letting me introduce myself and I look forward to sharing some projects throughout the month of May with you.

Happy Scrapping!

Shanna

Leave welcome comments for Shanna on this post by midnight, Sunday, May 8, 2011 and we will give one lucky winner their favorite Stella & Rose collection!
