On a Roll...

Want to see how to make a wreath base out of left-over Prima packaging? You are going to love how Cari Fennell rolled this one out!

Fall/Christmas Wreath

Cari fallholidaywreath

Greetingswreath4

Greetingswreath3

The entire background of the wreath is made from the kraft packaging from Prima paintables/transparency products! (Prima creates ALL of their packaging to be re-purposed as part of our Green Concepts™ program. It's like getting a free product everytime you buy Prima!)

Directions:

  1. Spray the entire surface of the kraft packaging sheets with Apple Glimmer Mist and set aside to dry.
  2. Create the base for the sentiment strip by cutting two pieces of cream Strawberry Kisses paper (2.5 x 12) the same width and connecting them in the center (make it long enough to go across the wreath)
  3. Cut another strip the same width (2.5 x 10), stamp a sentiment, emboss with gold powder and adhere it to the center of the long strip. Notch the ends and create folds on the sides so that it pops up.
  4. Cut the kraft packaging into small rectangular pieces (about 4x3) and roll to create a cone securing it with hot glue.
  5. Attach the cones to the wreath base with hot glue.
  6. Cut three large pieces of Fairy Flora pink patterned paper (5.5 x 12), accordion fold each piece and attach the ends together to form a large rosette circle.
  7. Adhere the large paper rosette to the center of the wreath.
  8. Adhere the sentiment across the center.
  9. Apply Cranberry Alcohol ink to the swirls to color them a dark pink.
  10. Start building up your flower arrangements on both sides of the center banner (tuck in the leaves and flowers as you build.) Use the glue gun to secure your embellishments.
  11. After it is all assembled, spray the entire wreath with Walnut Gold Glimmer Mist.
  12. Hang up and ENJOY!

Prima Felt + Friday= FABULOUS Ideas!

We hope you had a wonderful THANKSGIVING! It's always good to sit back and reflect on the many blessings we each have in our lives.

Today is also Black Friday in the states...which means you get up super early (like in the middle of the night or even earlier) to run out to stores and wait in  L O N G  lines to catch a few good deals!  (It's a great way to burn off some of those extra calories consumed from the day before though.)

If you aren't one of the adventurous deal-getters out there running around today then feel free to sit in the comfort of your own home and be inspired by some amazing felt projects!

Nic Howard was so inspired by Stacy Cohen's felt technique that she created a gorgeous card with it! (Nic applied her glitter with Gesso.)

.............................................................................................................................................

Me 9-26
Hi everyone, it’s me, Anabelle.  First off, I wanted to wish all of our U.S. readers a very Happy Thanksgiving Day! I hope you have a wonderful time with family and loved ones. We spend the day with my mom and my husband’s family. It’s one big eatfest and it’s great!

..........................................................................................................................................

So, a little about me…. I live in Delaware with my husband and son.  It’s a really small state located on the East Coast. I am originally from New York, but arrived at the University of Delaware when I was eighteen and have been here pretty much ever since. The University has played a big role in my life. I received my undergraduate degree here. While we were both working on our Master’s Degrees, my husband, Fran, and I took a class together. That’s where we first met! We both work there now. Our son went to preschool at the campus Lab School and hopefully he’ll follow in my footsteps and go there when he’s older.

Ud4

I’m a former classroom teacher and now work in the Early Childhood Education department. I really love my job because I get to work with college students, as well as preschoolers and their teachers. The  campus is beautiful and I love being able to stroll along the green in my free time.

Living in Delaware is great. We are located two hours from New York City, 45 minutes from Philadelphia, 1 hour from Baltimore and 2 hours from Washington DC. Another great thing is that the beach is only an hour and a half away in one direction and the mountains are equally distant in the other. We are a beach loving family in the summer and try to spend some time skiing in the winter.

DSCN2477

Being near so many wonderful places is great, but realistically, we don’t get to visit them as often as we’d like. Why? Because we have a seven year old who is into scouting, sports, music and Lego League, to name a few. I spend a great deal of my time driving him from place to place and it seems like our weekends are always filled with activities. (If you’re a mom, I’m sure you know what I mean!) But, I love it!

Aside from scrapping, I also LOVE to cook. I can spend hours watching the Food Network or reading through magazines. I wish I had more time to do these things! (Darn work, it gets in the way of everything!) Being in the kitchen just makes me happy. To balance things out, I also love going to the gym. I try to get there at least 4 or 5 times a week.

As for scrapping, I began six years ago when Ryan was about a year old. I knew it would turn into an addiction and it definitely has. I try to do something creative every day! I’m an early morning scrapper. I’m up around 5 am and head into my room with a cup of tea. I’ve been lucky to work with several manufacturers and magazines and have made so many friends through this hobby. Joining Prima this year has been an absolute highlight of my ‘scrappy career’!

Details are my best friend! I love creating projects that are filled with them. I love to layer, as well. Shortly after I began making scrapbook pages, I started with cards. I really enjoy working on the smaller palette and giving them to the recipients.

.........................................................................................................................................

Here is a page that is pretty typical of my style. I tend to start my pages at the center and build out from there.

Loved1

This ones uses a piece of Donna Downey canvas as the base, along with lots of flowers and pearls.

I love creating clusters and tucking elements into them.

  Loved2

Supplies for Loved:

  • Donna Downey Canvas 920722
  • Pearls with Lace 540876

...........................................................................................................................................

This next page highlights a few photos that I love. Ryan brought home this little turkey project from kindergarten a couple of years ago. Though it was eaten later that day, I wanted to capture the memory of my little kindergartener with his first Thanksgiving project. His little face with the feather headband is just so cute!

Turkey Treat 1

Even though I have a son, I still love to add flowers to his pages. I just don’t go overboard. On this page, I made my main embellishment the leaves and added a couple of flowers for interest and added color.  I used the pom-pom trim to create a frame around the page, too. (Hot glue works great to do this!)

Turkey Treat2

Supplies for Turkey Treat:

  • Fairy Flora Summer Storm 841751
  • Fairy Flora Journaling Stickers 541620
  • Road Trip Open Road 841850
  • Tropics Paper 840921

...........................................................................................................................................

The last thing I want to share with you today are a couple of projects that I created to show how to WEAR Prima. I love the flowers on my scrapbook pages and cards, but being able to incorporate them into my outfits is a lot of fun, too.

Tshirt2-1

Here is a tee shirt I made using a sheet of the Donna Downey canvas. I cut the swirls and adhered them to the shirt using fabric adhesive. Then, I wet the canvas, scrunched it up and let it dry before I cut the circles for the flowers. Some crystals in the center of the flowers added just the right amount of bling.

T- Shirt Supply:

  • Canvas 655350?E Line Crystals

Grand Dame necklace-1

And finally, here’s a necklace that I made using some of the Grand Dame flowers. I adhered them to a piece of trim (with hot glue), then stitched it to the chain. It was really quick and easy and I love wearing it!

Supplies:

  • Grand Dame –Cognac 538163
  • Caravan- Gold Marigold 538224

.......................................................................................................................................

That’s it from me! Thanks so much for stopping by today and taking the time to learn a bit about me. If you’d like to see more of my work, it can be found on my blog!

Have a wonderful day! ~~Anabelle

The FUN Things about Fall...

If you sat down and made a list about your favorite things about fall what would it include?

  1. I love the changing colors of the leaves. The beauty that surrounds fall is absolutely breathtaking! (Instant science lesson for the kids too-what tree produces yellow leaves? How about fire-engine red?)
  2. The crisp cold air makes me crave hot soup even more! Why is that exactly?
  3. Fall also reminds me of delicious Apple Festivals. Our family would all bundle up and head off to the Bayfield Apple Festival when we lived at the tippy-top of Wisconsin. It is incredible what people can do with apples...especially when it's freezing cold outside.

Which leads me to this amazing APPLE dip recipe that is so simple and so YUMMY!

Dulcedeleche

I sent this recipe to my hubby one day...hint, hint! The next day he brought this lovely plate of goodness to me! Doesn't it look good? Isn't he sweet?

Here's the fun recipe that only calls for ONE ingredient:

 dulce de leche apple dip

You could put this yummy stuff in cute little jars and give as gifts! (If you don't eat it all first...speaking from EXPERIENCE here.)

..............................................................................................................................................

Homemade Dulce de Leche

1 can sweetened condensed milk

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.  Pour sweetened condensed milk into a shallow baking dish.  Cover tightly with foil.  Place in a larger pan, such as a roasting pan.  Fill larger pan with hot water until water level reaches about half way up the baking dish.  Cook for about 60 minutes and then check.  Continue cooking if necessary.  When a medium caramel color is reached, remove from oven and let cool.  Whisk until smooth, store in fridge.

(Best Bites is one of my all-time favorite blogs for delicious recipes. The gals there are funny, their pics are stunning, and their recipes are YUMMY. Check them out and let me know what you think.)

...........................................................................................................................................

I also have some fresh, FALL projects to share with you from our ever amazing DT! So grab your apples and dip, sit back and ENJOY!

Scrapping Each Other

Last year our Design Team swapped and scrapped photos of each other for a very fun, very precious keepsake from being on the Prima DT. It was so cherished by everyone who participated that we wanted to do it again this year.

This time Trina McClune organised a similar swap with the DT! Trina collected photos...secretly handed them out, and collected all of the layouts made with them. No one knew ahead of time who had their photo...which added even more suspense and interest to the swap.

Today, we are doing the big reveal!

Designer Day-Come Meet Nic Howard!

Nic Howard is one of Prima's talented design team members who comes all the way from New Zealand! Nic is a teacher at Big Picture Scrapbooking, has a guest spot on "Live with Prima" coming up, and teaches gorgeous classes all over the world! Nic has a great personality and a super cute accent to boot. We cannot wait for you to meet her!

...........................................................................................................................................

Hi, Everyone, Nic here!  I’m excited to be here to tell you a little bit about myself for the Prima Designer Day.

Nic
I’ve been a scrapbooker for 12 years and one of my favourite pastimes is the teaching I’m involved in.  I have travelled all over the world teaching this wonderful craft, and I’m always asked about my homeland and what it’s like.  I thought this would be a great place to start!

I come from a little country in the South Pacific called New Zealand.   New Zealand is made up of three islands; the North Island, the South Island and a little bitty island right at the bottom called Stewart Island.  I live right on the outskirts of one of New Zealand’s largest cities, Auckland, which lies up the top of the North Island.  Although I live close to Auckland I’m in a semi-rural area.  The view out of my window includes large fields of horticulture and reserve land.  I’m a very lucky girl to have the best of both worlds!

Along with working for various scrapbooking companies, travelling and teaching online for Big Picture Classes, I also take care of the office work for the construction business my husband and I run together.  It’s tough when I’m sitting here sorting taxes and wages with gorgeous scrapbooking products calling me!

My husband and I have three children, all of which have birthdays in the next few months.  I love the stages they are at, at nearly 12, 10 and 7; they still love us to bits and want to spend time with us.  They each have their own personal hobbies, Jacob loves nature, Braden loves reading, and although she is into princesses and drawing now, Abby assumes she’ll be a scrapbooker when she grows up – how cute!

Nics kids

As far as other hobbies go, I spend an hour at the gym every day, I tag and release monarch butterflies to track their migration in autumn, and in summer you’ll find me at the beach as much as possible.  New Zealand is blessed with the most amazing coastlines so as a family we spend all year looking forward to the fabulous summers, fishing, boating and swimming.  New Zealanders really do live on a little piece of paradise, and I’m extremely proud to belong to this beautiful country!

As a scrapbooker my style has been described as detailed and layered.  I love to start my layouts with a fairly plain background, building layers to add interest and finishing off with dimensional clusters and embellishing.  The story on a layout is incredibly important to me, as is the ability to let the photo take centre stage, so this is my goal every time I sit down to scrapbook.

Imprint prima layout

This layout has all the features I’m known for: the neutral background, the layers, clusters of embellishing and a story.  I also love to alter embellishments.  Take a close look at the white flower in this layout; it’s packaged as a flat flower from Prima.  I scrunched it up and placed it in the cluster, something I love to do in any of my layouts where there is a gap that is bugging me!

The packaging is also fabulous to use in mini books and cards, as shown in this card below:

Notice how I’ve coloured my alphas?

Clear Pkging card Nic H front CU3

I place my alphas on a ruler or my finger in the order that I will be using them.  I swipe a little chalk ink across the bottom to darken the edges – it gives a more dimensional look to them – I love this technique!

How about TWO Give-Aways?

Bps5thbrithday

Join us in wishing Big Picture Scrapbooking a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY! (They just turned FIVE years old!)

In celebration of this special day BPS is opening up two spots in Nic Howard's classes!

Nic

.........................................................................................................................................

Class One

Constant Reminders:

Remind1
Acrylic and transparent albums are hot right now! As the range of products for this new phenomenon grows, so does our curiosity on how to include them in our scrapbooking projects! Do you want to learn about the world of acrylic albums? Do transparencies and layers of embellishments intrigue you?

.........................................................................................................................................

Class Two

Conversations:

Converse1

Inspiration doesn't flow easily for everybody. We sit with our scrapbooking supplies around us, we have the perfect photos of the subject we want to scrap, yet where are the ideas for the journaling? Where is the inspiration for a title? Often we find ourselves adding a quote or not journaling on our page at all, when we really wanted to tell more of a story.

.........................................................................................................................................

For a chance to win leave a comment here with a birthday wish for BPS and we will pick two lucky winners on Friday, November 19th, 2010! (Open to all countries.)

MarionAnnalee Minni 002

Marion Annalee Minni 009

MarionAnnalee Minni 003

Today we want to show you a twist on one of the fabulous "Live With Prima" kits that our stores carry. We had our three class moderators (Cari, Sharon and Rebecca) each take a kit from Marion's gorgeous "Annalee chipboard album" class and make it their own. (Sample above by Marion Smith)

Each Annalee Album Kit Contains:

  • 518400 - Embossed 6x6 Chipboard Book
  • 841959 - Annalee 6x6 paper pad
  • 534981 - Lace
  • 541521 - Annalee Pebbles
  • 543983 - Craftable Flowers
  • 543167 - Blossoming Branches-Truffle
  • 530549 - Say It In Pearl Butterfly Swirl
  • 543860 - Paper Butterflies-Vlinder
  • 538705 - Cameo Roses-white
  • 542818 - Royal Verbena-camel
  • 541989 - Annalee Journaling Cards in a Box

(You can still get this kit RIGHT HERE!)

..........................................................................................................................................

Take 1:

Sharonbookcover

Sharon Laakkonen had a blast with this gorgeous kit! The Annalee line, and coordinating products, are filled with sweet colors and loaded with femininity...making this kit perfect for a few of her adorable granddaughter's photos. Tip: Sharon saved the Prima lace for the inside of the book and just used white tulle to tie a bow on her ring for an extra sweet touch to this darling book.

Pages1,2

Cut Journaling Cards apart to get more mileage out of them...and save your scraps for the opposite page!

Pages3,4

Mimic designs on alternate pages for a cohesive look throughout your book. Set some of your elements up on foam squares for even more dimension.

Pages5,6

Use a fluttering butterfly for a flower center to change things up!

Pg7,8

Counter-balance the rich Royal Verbena flower by spraying a bit of Suede GM in the center of each Craftable flower on the opposite page.

Wholebook

Although the Prima book comes with 10 pages, Sharon only used 5 so her book wouldn't be too thick. Save the other pages and do a whole other book with the left-over kit pieces!

Sharon's Custom Touches:

  • Sharon started by painting her chipboard with a Willow Paint Dabber by Ranger.
  • Then she buffed a touch of cream acrylic paint on the embossed areas and added a vintage look with Ranger Distress Ink in Antique Linen.
  • All Craftable flowers were sprayed with Glimmer Mist: SWAK, Indian Corn and Wheatfields.
  • Leaves were created by cutting them freehand from Annalee paper and misting with Olive Vine and Suede GM (spray both colors on leaf, then dab each leaf on a towel before it dries.)
  • Butterflies were given a vintage touch with a light spray of SWAK and Wheatfields.
  • After completing the album she spritzed each page with Iridescent Gold GM. (Cover your photos with a piece of plastic to protect them.)

.............................................................................................................................................

 Take 2:

Rebeccacover

Rebecca Gawryl  took a different twist to her kit by adding loads of fun, artsy touches with paint and crackle mediums! The white tones add a shabby chic flavor, while the inked edges lend a distressed touch that contrasts the Annalee floral papers beautifully.

Rebeccapg1

The first page shows how you can use this amazing kit and use it for masucline pages that simply ROCK. And take a peek at the inside cover for Rebecca's fabulous crackling. (Prima's chipboard books are sturdy enough for anything you can throw at them!)

 Rebeccapg2,3

The next spread showcases loads of layering and colored flowers (pull your colors from your patterned papers for fool-proof results) while the sweet photos take center stage.

Rebeccapg4,5

Notice how Rebecca used the 6x6 border paper to ground each page while adding loads of color and pattern as well. A colored doily is tucked in to pull the whole design together. Tip: Tuck generic tags behind photos for hidden journaling.

Rebeccapg6,7
Border punches can really add depth, pattern and interest to any design. Use them on our papers for stunning results.

Rebeccapg8,9
You gotta love the pool pic showcased inside the circle-frame paper...such a perfect fit!

Rebeccalastpg

Finishing off Rebecca's album is another hit page with crinkled book paper, punched edges, crackling and loads of gorgeously-colored flowers.

Rebeccafullbk

Rebecca's Custom Touches:

  • I’m the type of person who can’t seem to play by the rules.  Because of this, I just had to use several things that were not included in the kit.  I love the look of book text on my projects, so I added several sheets of book text from old books that I use for crafting.  Also, because I was going for a shabby chic look, I added some doilies that I picked up at my local craft store and some manila office supply tags that I had lying around.  But, the biggest thing that I added to this kit was additional flowers.  I love the Annalee Essentials flowers. They are the perfect compliment to the Annalee paper line.  So, I used lots of those in my book.  And, of course, every flower needs to have a center, so I added some E-Line pearls and crystals to the mix.
  • To get the crackle effect, I first painted the front and back covers, as well as the inside edges of all of the pages, with brown acrylic craft paint.  I then added a coat of crackle medium (I used one by Deco Art) over the brown paint.   After the crackle medium dried completely, I painted a light coat of white acrylic craft paint over the crackle medium.  As the white paint dried, the cracks would appear revealing the brown color underneath.
  • To color the craftable flowers, I used lots of Glimmer Mist, Glimmer Glam and Glimmer Glaze.  Each product gives our flowers a unique look that I just love!  I also used some of the green packaging to cut leaves from and add to my flower clusters.

 ..................................................................................................................................................

 Take 3:

Cariannaleemini1
Cari Fennell let the hues of the beautiful papers take charge by painting her album with Adirondack's Lettuce acrylic paint and highlighting the embossed areas with a royal touch of gold paint by Plaid. Next Cari added her signature touches of layered papers and flowers for a gorgeous book cover.

Cariannaleemini2
Spray the Craftable flowers, Butterflies, and Cameo Roses using multiple Glimmer Mist colors that compliment the Annalee papers. Top them off with a touch of Walnut Gold GM for an aged look.
Cariannaleemini3
Construct your album quickly by cutting all of your background papers the same size: 5 1/4in. x 5 1/2 in. Then layer your embellies on adding touches of gold paint to pull them all together. Green Tip: Use your packaging too! It's like getting a free product.
Cariannaleemini4

Want to customize the flowers a bit? Dry brush the branch with gold paint, while coloring the flowers with a touch of Indian Corn GM applied with a paint brush.

Cari's Custom Touches:

  • Mist a light layer of Walnut Gold GM over your entire book for an amazing vintage touch. Use other colors for your flowers: Walnut Gold, Patina, Apple, Indian Corn, Jack O'Lantern
  • Add a layer of gold paint to the Royal Verbena brown flower for a stunning effect.
  • Notecards: Adhere the notecards to the pages. Use an exacto knife, and trim the edges or cut out the centers of the same cards you adhered to the book. Adhere the cutouts over the existing notecards with foam tape to add dimension and a shadow layer.
  • Packaging: Cut out the Doilies from the packaging and adhere them around the page, layered together or tucked behind the notecards. Cut out several "leaves" from green packaging the SIIP swirls come in. Use a large square piece of packaging from Cameo Roses and layer it over the paper square on the first page.
  • Decorate each page using your misted flowers and butterflies. Use the page pebbles for the flower centers. Cut the pearl swirls apart and adhere them throughout the book. Cut the branch into two pieces and adhere them to the pages as well.

 .........................................................................................................

See how you can take the exact same kit and come out with three totally different albums? We would love to see what you do with our Live With Prima class kits too. Link us on our Wednesday blog posts or "Like" us on Facebook (Prima Marketing Flowers) and show us what you have created!

To make today's post even sweeter we have a lovely give-away for you! Leave a comment on this post and we will pick a winner on Monday, November 22nd, 2010. (Open to all countries)

Leena2

Hello, everyone! This is Leena here all the way from Singapore! Some of you may or may not have heard of this little country that I’m residing now (this island is so tiny no one can ever find it in the world map! lol!) and it’s also been called the little “red dot” somewhere in the South East Asia. Well, if you’ve ever heard of our famous national carrier Singapore Airline with their famous icon, the “Singapore Girl”, that’s us!

(Map courtesy of Google images.)

Anyway, I have to say Singapore is a beautiful country. I couldn’t have chosen a better place to live in. Even though this country is a fast-paced city to live in, it’s also one of the safest and most peaceful countries in the world. It’s clean, people are very friendly, and we have multi-racial citizens with rich cultural backgrounds.

Here’s a photo of Singapore city which I took a couple of months back during our Independence Day.

Leena1

So, a little background about me now. I was originally born in Malaysia and I came to Singapore 15 years ago when I became one of the “Singapore Girls”. For five and a half years I traveled around the world, enjoying every moment of my youth experiencing diverse cultures and visited some of the most amazing cities in the world. I have to say some of my favorite places I’ve visited will be: England, Egypt, Nepal, Australia, Japan, France and, of course, the United States.

And then I got settled down and married my best friend, Rainer, whom I’ve met while I was flying. Together, we had a beautiful boy, Ethan who is now 6 and full of life! Our lives definitely have never been the same after he arrived...it got better, in fact, and we completely love being parents. Seeing him grown into a fine young boy certainly is worth every second. As you can see from the pictures of my family, I’m a happy woman.

Leena3

How I came upon scrapbooking was by chance 3 years ago. I got knocked out of breath when I stepped into our local scrapbooking store and I’ve been crazy about this craft ever since. Over the years, I’ve had great opportunities designing for some wonderful manufacturers, kit clubs and my lss and that includes Prima Marketing. I couldn’t be more thankful to be in the Prima team, surrounded by many talented and wonderful girls.

I’m a full-time working mother and I do travel every now and then. When things get busy at work and I’m worn out, scrapbooking is an outlet where I relieved myself from all the stress. I have to say it’s an effective therapy that works wonders! Besides getting into scrapbooking, I’m an avid photography fan. I picked up my first film SLR back in the mid 90s when I got my first big pay check and I never stopped snapping pictures ever since. I have thousands of pictures taken over the years when I traveled around the globe and I’m still keeping all the negatives I took them in during the film camera era. And when digital cameras started getting popular years back, I was really hesitant to switch to digital SLR. I guess I was afraid that I would become too dependant on digital settings I would lose my insight on the skill I’ve build when I was taking pictures in film. But I got settled in really quickly and I love my DSLR very much now. I still do miss my old film SLR, which I’ve now kept it safe as a reminder how I got started in photography.

So, I made full use of my camera and took loads of pictures which have been used all the time in my scrapbooking projects. I love that I can document my photos and drown them with all the beautiful products that can be offered in the market.

....................................................................................................................................................

I’d like to share a few of my projects with some of my favorite gorgeous products that Prima offers.

_MG_7274a-1

My first project is a shadow box which I got from Ikea. I decided to alter it into a display piece for my home with some amazing fall color Prima products.

_MG_7279a-1

_MG_7286a-1

The highlight of this shadow box that I altered would be the Felt Gates, which I love so much! I decided to cut it into 4 pieces and encircled them around the inner square where I adhered the words “Home Sweet Home”. It added a lovely touch to the box together with the other gorgeous flowers and leaves.

Another project that I made is a wood mounted canvas board that I’m planning to give it to my best friend Ally as a gift. I took this photo of her in her 7th month pregnancy together with her hubby. First, I painted, distressed and misted the canvas. I then cut out some flower motifs from another favorite product of mine, the Donna Downey Canvas sheet together with the doily motifs which is part of the packaging design. I also adhered a Felt Gate on the DD canvas sheet and used it to mat the photo. I completed the canvas board with more lovely flowers in shades of purple, blue and pink, SIIC and more DD Canvas sheet (bird cage design). This would be my first purple theme project that I’ve ever created and I love it very much!

My last piece of work would be a page titled “Me & My Favorite Chair” which I created using So Cute collection. I love how versatile the collection is as they can be used for either girl or boy projects. The papers are printed on both sides, with girls and boys theme and the embellishments that came with it are absolutely adorable! I decided to scrap the photos of my best friend’s little girl, Rylie which I took when I visited her a while back. I love how Rylie’s little pink top (a gift from me) matches the color palette of the So Cute papers. Complimented with some lovely pink based flowers, I love how pretty this page turned out. It’s a very girlie page indeed.

IMG_6732a

A few sparkly flowers and leaves are added effortlessly by using a ready-to-use Prima vine.

A bold title pulls the whole layout together and adds a burst of color!

Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater...

It's that time of the year when the air gets crisper, the mornings are chilly (or downright freezing if you are north of me!) and pumpkins are in abundance.

The Bad News: I don't really like pumpkin (no matter what Peter says.)

The Badder News: My family loves pumpkin (and I like to make up words.)

So, as a good mom and wife, I try to please my family everyonce in awhile. I went off exploring pumpkin recipes and want to share a few winners that I found with you!

Pumpkin pie bars1

This easy recipe for Pumpkin Pie Bars at cooks.com that is

A M A Z I N G

and will covert all of you pumpkin haters. If your family is BEGGING for something pumpkinY for Thanksgiving, try this easy recipe and you will have people kissing your feet!

Best part: You don't even have to make a traditional crust! (I can almost hear the BIG sighs of relief...ahhhHHHH.)

PUMPKIN PIE BARS
1 c. flour
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. quick oats
1/2 c. butter
Blend ingredients until crumbly. Press into 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
FILLING:
1 can pumpkin
13 oz. can evaporated milk
2 eggs, slightly beaten
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
Combine ingredients and pour into baked crust. Bake for 20 minutes.
TOPPING:
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. nut meats
Combine and spread over hot filling and bake for 20 minutes more.

 Pumpkinpiebars2
Yes, I actually made these bars myself! And my motto is, "Everything is better with tons of frosting on it." So, feel free to whip up some frosting for these yummy bars. Your family will absolutely adore you.

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Beat the cream cheese and butter together until creamy. Add the powdered sugar (don't mix on high at this point or you will dust your entire kitchen like I DID!) Add vanilla. Spread most of the frosting on the pumpkin bars. Save a little to eat straight out of the bowl.

.........................................................................................................................................

Then I went and outdid myself baking....

are you ready for it????

A Pumpkin Roll!

Pumpkin roll

Teehee! These are actually fun to make and they look...impressive!

PUMPKIN ROLL
3 eggs
2/3 cup plain pumpkin (not pie filling)
1 cup sugar (maple sugar may be used if available)
3/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ginger (optional)
1/2-3/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
powdered sugar (for sprinkling)
Preheat oven to 350°F.

Combine all dry ingredients, add eggs and pumpkin (fresh, frozen or canned; if using frozen, drain out excess liquid).

Butter or spray with non-stick spray a jelly roll pan (11x15 inch). Cut a sheet of wax or parchment paper to fit the bottom of the jelly roll pan. Line pan with wax or parchment paper to edges.

Spread pumpkin mixture evenly over paper liner. Sprinkle with chopped nuts.

Bake at 350°F for about 15 minutes or until done.

While the pumpkin roll is baking, spread a large clean cotton dish towel or cloth on a work surface; sprinkle the towel with powdered sugar.

When cake is done, remove from oven. Run a butter knife along edges to release cake from sides. While still warm, invert pumpkin roll onto towel. Gently peel off wax or parchment paper.

Using the towel to help lift the cake, roll up the towel (cake and all) beginning at the short side of the cake; continue rolling until you have the cake in the shape of a jelly roll. Allow to cool in this position.

When the cake has cooled, unroll gently; spread with filling (see below) and re-roll. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Filling for Pumpkin Roll:
Mix and whip until creamy:
2 teaspoons butter
8 oz. package cream cheese
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup confectioners sugar
Submitted by: CM

This roll from cooks.com was so much fun...and I only stressed once...when the cake stuck in one spot to the towel even though I dumped a TON of powdered sugar on it first. But, with a little begging, and a little pleading with the cake, it finally lifted off and rolled up beautifully! Let me tell you...my family calls me Betty Crocker now. :)

Pumpkinroll2

Wouldn't these make gorgeous little teacher/neighbor/friend gifts? I can see a slice or two wrapped up in a cute box and decorated with a few Prima flowers!

Box2
Now how simple is that? All I did was color a little tulle:

Baggie
Spray Pumpkin Pie GM in a baggie...add your tulle and seal. Smoosh everything around until the tulle is the color you want. Open the bag and let the tulle air dry.

Tulle
See how beautiful it is? (Save your baggie to use again!)

Products
Grab some Prima paper scraps (which I cut and punched to fit my box), a sweet Tuscany flower and a few autumn leaves.

Box1

  • Place your pumpkin bars or roll inside the box (place on parchment paper)
  • adhere the script paper to the lid,
  • tie the orange tulle around the box
  • adhere the punched paper circle, Prima flowers and leaves
  • add a greeting and give to your favorite person!

 Flowercu1

How sweet is that...(both inside and outside!)

Altered Box Supplies:

  • 539689 - Autumn Leaves
  • 841157 -  Shabby Chic Script Paper-Majestic Breeze
  • 841164 - Pastiche Paper-Vintage Garden
  • 543938 - Tuscany Flower- Seaside
  • Marvy Uchida scalloped punch
  • Tattered Angels Pumpkin Pie Glimmer Mist
  • Cupcake box-repurposed

AMAZING Projects!

Today we are really excited to show a sneak peek for our "Live With Prima" class tomorrow done by the talented Rebecca Gawryl!

Banner
Class: Fall Canvas Banner

Date: Tuesday, November 2, 2010

Time: 6:30 PST

Ustream Channel: Prima Flowers

This banner is simply stunning! Join Prima for this amazing class to see how you can create a gorgeous piece of home decor for the fall season. She will give you several ideas on how to decorate Prima canvas using different art mediums and masking techniques that will want to try; not to mention how to incorporate all of the gorgeous Prima flowers and various ideas for any project.

........................................................................................................................................

  Rebecca

First up: This is Rebecca and she will be teaching a super fun FALL banner loaded with cool artsy techniques and gorgeous Prima products!

DSC_0403

Rebeccas has three friends who help her scrap! This is Calypso.  She was a 4 week old stray that Rebecca took in one day.

DSC_5882

Then there is Buddy.  Buddy is Rebecca's son's cat! He was just 8 weeks old when they adopted him, was very tiny and funny, funny, funny!  Now, 4 years later, he's a big lazy loaf!  He weighs over 20 pounds and this is his favorite sitting position!

DSC_9728

And here is Petey.  Petey was Rebecca's first cat... the old, wise man!  He is always at her side (or should we say, on her craft table!)  He is absolutely the BEST cat, but he thinks he's a dog.  He plays fetch and likes to lick her to show his love!

Rebecca loves to dabble in all things art!  She doesn't really consider herself a scrapbooker so much as a mixed-media artist.  Changing mediums and using fun new products keeps the hobby fresh for her.  We think you will just LOVE learning how to make this fabulous banner...so jump on Ustream tomorrow and JOIN US!

Banner2
The holidays are such a wonderful time to welcome friends and family into your home.  It’s a time of sharing food, fun, and feeling festive!  What better way to welcome your guests than with a gorgeous handmade banner celebrating the season?

Bannercu1

Made with Prima’s amazing canvas 4x6 page refills and gushing with beautiful Prima flowers, papers and swirls, this is a one of a kind masterpiece that you will use for years to come!

Bannercu2

Now how fun does this look? We offer a variety of quality classes each month. The November schedule will be posted on our Live with Prima website the end of this week. And if you are looking for Prima supplies or kits, be sure to check out our store locator located on the site too. If you are interested in attending our classes, tune in at the scheduled times and go to our Prima channel on ustream!

How about sharing a BONUS project that Rebecca made just for you?

  Layout

"First off I just love Prima papers.  The designs are so intricate and delicate.  They are perfect for my black and white photos.  I don't know about you, but I always love to get the 6x6 paper pads because they are the perfect size for a mini book.  Once I've used them on a mini book, however, I often have tons of left over pages that never get used.  Well, why not use them on a 12x12 layout? "

6x6mini

"For this layout, I chose some of my favorite patterns from our new Fairy Flora 6x6 paper pad to use on my page."

Ink
"I cut a some of the papers down a bit so that I would have random sizes, inked the edges using Ranger Industries Distress Ink in Vintage Photo (my most favorite brown color ever), then adhered the papers to the page at random."

Cut papers copy

"I don't like to use a ruler or to stress about keeping things perfectly straight.  I just add some glue and throw the papers down.  Then, I added my photo over the papers.  This photo was originally 5x7, but I did cut it down just a tad, mostly because I had printing issues!"

"I knew that I wanted to have a little bit of journaling, but I didn't want to take too much away from the papers and image.  I decided to add an office tag to use as my journaling block.  I inked the edges and glued the edge just underneath the photo, allowing the tag to hang down lower than the papers."

Gesso

"Next came the title.  I just love the font and size of the Whisper Collection Chipboard Letters, but the colors were not exactly what I was looking for on this page.  I decided to just paint them in the color that I wanted.  I first added a coat of gesso so that my paint color would be nice and vibrant."

Paint 1

"Then, I painted the letters with acrylic craft paint."

Paint 2

"And for a little added sparkle I painted a layer of Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam!"

Flowers
"Flower clustering has always been a challenge for me.  However, I've recently discovered a couple of secrets.  Are you ready for them?  "
Flowercluster1

"You want to have a variety of colors, shapes and sizes!  You also want to be sure to layer some on top of the others for added dimension and color interest."

Flowercluster2

"Our Essentials flowers are PERFECT for adding just a touch of color and are a great way to add some dimension to your layouts."

Pearl

"Last, but certainly not least, come the crystals.  Our crystal swirls are amazing!  They come off in one piece so you get a gorgeous blinged-out swirl without having to do any work!  I ALWAYS cut our crystals into several pieces and use the swirls in various places on my layout.  You will make your swirls go a long way by doing this.  On this layout, I only cut it in half, but I have been known to cut them up into very small pieces to use them!"  ~~Rebecca
