Fabulous Friday

March is almost over. The end of our Meadow Lark contest is coming to an end so make sure you post your projects on our Facebook page before the end of tomorrow!

Today we have a few more creative layouts to share with you. We have fun and funky to shabby and chic. Something for everyone.

................................................................................

This bright, fun layout was created by Marie-Nicolas Alliot. Marie-Nicolas uses the Doodle-Deux collection and combines it with a burst of color. We love her use of white space, and how she carries her design across the page.

Techniques by Trina McClune

Trina shares with us a fun technique that you might have forgotten about. She has created a beautiful Prima layout, to show you how you can utilize this technique on your scrapbook pages.

................................................................................

Hey everyone! Trina here.

I recently taught a class using an older technique which isn't around as much anymore. Embossing. It went down really well and I thought it would be a perfect idea to show here, reminding us all how cool it looks and how easy it is to add a little something special to your projects....

This is a new LO I've created for you here using the delightful "Nature's Garden" range of papers.

Sweet-girl

And here's how I created the backdrop of tags.....

First off I cut the tags using a Sizzix die cut. Of course, you can make your own using some scissors/craft knife/trimmer!

Then I stamped the tags with Prima stamps and a versamark stamp pad.

Tipping some WHITE embossing powder onto the ink leaves a great image to heat and set...

Sweet-girl-sbs1

I knew I wanted a flower shaped stamp (it matches so well with Prima products!) in the same pattern as one of the other stamps I used, so punched a flower out of some scrap paper, placed the negative part of the paper over the tags, then used my Prima stamp to create the pattern....

Sweet-girl-sbs2

Once I'd stamped all the designs I wanted on my tags and embossed them I was ready to colour the tags.

Sweet-girl-sbs3

In this case I used Tim Holtz distress ink, but Pan Pastels would work just as well (if you have the right colours ;)).

I was then able to add the tags to the base page of my LO and build from there.

In the last couple of years I've tended to use a lot of little photos on my LO's. I find you can fit more of them on a page which means I can tell a story more easily. If I tried to do this LO with 6" x 4" photos, it wouldn't have worked.

Here's how I create my smaller photos (using photoshop - I'm sure there are plenty of other programmes that could help you do this!).....

1. Choose the photo/s you want to print, and change to black and white / process it if necessary.

2. Open a new folder that is size 6" x 4".

3. Change the size of your original photo to 3" x 2".

4. Copy and paste into your new file.

5. Repeat another 3 times.

You now have a 6" x 4" photo/file that has 4 3x2" photos on it. Print it, and cut to separate. Then use on your LO.

Once I had my tags and photos in place it was simply a matter of finding some gorgeous Prima embellishments to fit my ideas of what the final look would be.

I used a piece of Midsummer's Eve paper to cut several flower rosettes to place across the page, then added some gorgeous Prima flowers, clocks, crystals, and trinkets to complete it.

Sweet-Girl-CU1

Sweet-Girl-CU3

In this instance having so many photos has allowed my title to also be my journaling. But I have also added a date and some private words to the back of the LO. Something I do when I think the aesthetics of a LO are better off as they are without any journaling.

And that's it. Another story told using Prima.

Prima and PanPastels...A 'Graceful' Combination

Happy Friday all, we have a creative project tutorial by Trudi Harrison, showing a creative way on how to use PanPastels with Prima's products.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hi Everyone,

Today I have a project to share created with the beautiful Fairy Belle Collection.  Layers of  hand cut elements and paper strips from the Fairy Belle patterned papers have been combined with pretty Prima blooms.

Cotton Tape, Masks, PanPastels, and Texture Paste have been used to first alter the background.

To recreate a similar effect:

Start with the Fairy Belle 'Marcelle' Patterned Paper as the base - I used the reverse side

1. Attach strips of Cotton Tape vertically and horizontally over the area where the main design elements and photo will be featured. Cut them at different lengths and stagger them.
Prima Cotton Tape is already adhesive backed which makes it quick and easy to attach.

2. Lay a large Prima Swirl Mask over the top the attached tape - I used the Prima 12 x 12 Mask #545628

3. Apply Texture Paste over the top of the mask. Remove Mask and allow to dry.

4. With a 'Sofft Art Sponge, add some colour to the Texture Paste with PanPastel.

A light application of Yellow Ochre Tint was first applied. Highlights of Turquoise and Permanent Red were added. A round sponge bar was used to apply the PanPastel.

If the color was too intense for my liking, I was able to remove by erasing.
The area was then sealed.
5. Some additional masking were added.  The thistle element of the mask was highlighted with Pan Pastel Turquoise.

6. Attach thin strips of patterned paper vertically and horizontally - I used the decorative strip at the bottom of the Fairy Belle Patterned Paper and attached over some of the previously attached Cotton Tape.

 7. Add other design elements and photo.

PanPastel How-To with Emeline Seet

Happy Friday everyone. Today on the Prima blog we would like to share a start to finish project created by Emeline Seet. She will show you all the steps to recreate this beautiful work of art.

Emeline Pan Pastel Medow Lark

Supplies you will need:

  • Pan Pastel Colors (Violet Tint, Permanent Red, Yellow Ochre Tint)
  • Pan Pastel Art Sponge (Sponge Bar Point)
  • Pan Pastel Knife and Cover #3 Oval
  • Prima Mask  #881692
  • Prima Meadow Lark Journaling Chipboard  #554774
  • Prima Meadow Lark Wood Buttons #554453
  • Prima Meadow Lark Floralee #843809
  • Prima Louisa May Alcotts Lavender #542443
  • Prima Jardinere Alla #552596
  • Prima Flower Market Printery #556565
  • Prima Cardstock Alphabet Stickers Meadow Lark #554293
  • Prima 8”x10” Alphabet Sticker Song Bird Sheet
  • Prima Alphabet Stickers #655350
  • Prima Resin #890759
  • Prima Poppies and Poenies #921750
  • Prima Resist Canvas Pixie Glen #551643
  • Prima Laraine Pearl White #557645
  • Say It With Crystals #551537
  • Gel Medium
  • Script Stamp
  • Staz On black Ink
  • Ranger's Tissue Tape
  • Masking Tape
  • Tulle

Instructions:

1) Adhere masking tapes, tissue tape and paper doily onto canvas.

2) Arrange and adhere alphabet stickers onto doily.

3) Paint a layer of gesso over the stickers and tapes.

Picture 1

4) Cut pattern motif from pattern paper. Adhere to top and bottom right hand corner of the canvas.

Do not discard remaining pattern paper. Tuck under doily. Paint a layer of gesso over the motifs.

Picture 2

Picture 3

5) Cut out a generic shape from chipboard (or cardstock) and use it as a mask. Here, I used a heart shape. Apply Pan Pastel's color with a sponge applicator.

Increase color control by varying pressure with the sponge. If you wish to tone down the intensity, dab some gesso over to dilute the colors.

Picture 4

6) Apply and mix colors using Prima's mask over the edges.

One thing I like about Pan Pastel's is that it can be easily erased with any eraser!

7) Apply Pan Pastel's Color onto canvas clock (I married Yellow Ochre Tint and Violet Tint).

I wanted to have a more intense color , so I started with the Violet tint and then applied Yellow Ochre Tint.

Picture 5

Picture 6

8) Arrange flowers, leaves and other embellishments.

9) Tie Tulle around the perimeter of the canvas.

A Tin Perfect for Giving by Anne Jo Lexander

Today we have a designer showcase project by Anne Jo Lexander. She brings us this adorable tin that she has re-purposed using Prima products and art mediums. The small smoking tin makes for the perfect Gift Card holder. Here is one of the tins she altered using the Doodle-Deux collection.

Jens

Jens2

................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Here is the step by step instructions for you to recreate this inventive idea.

Box1

How-to:

 1. Paint the tin twice with gesso, just so you cover the original surface.

Box2

2.Add a slight dash of glimmer mist and flocked rub-ons onto the surface. Spray the butterfly-resist canvas piece, and lightly add cold ice chalk to the edges when dry. Generously apply clear crackle paint onto the wood clock and add some randomly on the flowers and leaves as well. Let dry.

Card3

3.Measure the size of the tin and cut a strip which’s 12” long. Fold it three times and round the corners.

Card5

4.Build a nice layered cover for the tin using paper, transparencies, canvas, tag and flowers. I find that varying the materials used in the layers will help on the overall look.

Card1

Card2

5.Decorate the inner pages like you would a normal card; just remember that it needs to be somewhat flat-ish so it will fit into the tin.

Products:

  • Supplies for the tutorial tin: Laraine black tie – 557638
  • Printery collection – negative 843502, pressman 843496, emperor 843489

The Live with Prima March schedule is here!

The classes this month are so inspiring and we hope you'll join us to see our talented group of instructors recreate these fabulous projects on Live with Prima. Join us for these shows on our Prima channel at ustream.com. Create a free log in at ustream, to participate in our live chats that take place during every show. All of our shows are recorded and ready to view on the same channel.

Our schedule is changing, starting this month. We wanted to let everyone know that we are going to continue classes on Thursday nights, since it has been the most popular show night during the week. We will not be scheduling Tuesday night shows any longer, but we will be offering a bonus show each month for guest designers.

This month, we have a very special guest artist, Julie Nutting, joining us with an adorable project she made just for our viewers! Julie has been creating fashion-themed art since she was about 8 years old. Never quite growing out of the paper doll stage, she has gone onto writing Collage Couture, a bestselling book featuring collaged paper fashion illustrations with North Light Books. Her work has been published in Somerset Studio, as well as some of its sister publications, and Cloth, Paper, Scissors. Julie also teaches her unique workshops across the United States. Check out more of Julie’s stunning art work on her blog here.

Take a little notebook from the $1 section and transform it into a darling journal, cute enough to give as a gift! Made from Prima’s new Sun Kiss line and just a few goodies you probably already have in your stash, this whole project can be made in about an hour. Fun bonus: Julie will even show you how to paint hair!
