Monday Artistic Momentum

We know sometimes it's had to get going on a Monday, especially when it comes to creating. So we thought we would share a few projects to get your momentum fired up.

......................................................................

Are you trying to find an out of the box idea of scrapping your spring and summer photos? This layout by Brit Sviggum has a fun idea of how to single out your favorite little fairy and showcase them on the page.

Fairies - Brit

Brit says:

When I was looking at these papers with all those cute fairies, I knew at once what photo of my daughter I could use with them.
Tuva (my daughter) loves to dress up, dance and sing for us. So when she got a new dress from her uncle, she had to put it on at once.
The Fairy Belle papers are so girlie and sweet, and goes SO well with this photo.
Fairies1 - Brit
Supplies
  • Fairy Belle Paper #950118
  • Fairy Belle Paper #950095
  • Fairy Belle Paper #950088
  • Chipboards : #950286
Now do you need a new way to store those smaller embellishments? How about an altered spice rack. Juliana Montoya Found this adorable rack at a flea market. She uses Papers from the Pixie Glen Collection to alter each jar. She adds a title using Prima's textured alphabets.
IMG_0578

I found this old spice rack at my flea market and it makes a great storage idea for embellishments. I used the Prima Pixie Glen Collection so each little spice jar has a different paper from the collection. I didn't add too much because I wanted to keep it shabby and simple.
IMG_0528
IMG_0592
Supplies
  • Pixie Glen Collection - 843694
  • Prima Alphabets

Have you ever bought an outfit or a pair of shoes you couldn't help but show off? If so why not scrap about it. Janna Werner shares her style with this beautiful scrapbook page.

June20th_jw_1

Here's Janna about her stylish page:

I just bought myself new shoes - my first Converse shoes ever.
When I was a teenager all my friends wore them, I don´t know why but I never did. So, here I am, 33 years old with my first pair of Chucks. Lucky me!
June20th_jw_2
Supplies
  • Alla-Prima 8x8" paper stack #843717
  • Alla-Prima collection - Aquarelle #843366
  • Alla-Prima collection - Ferrulle #843380
  • Pixie Glen Collection - Dartmoor #843236
  • Pixie Glen Collection - Rose Arbor #843205
  • Prima Flowers - Tasha Frost #556969
  • Chipboard Pieces Doodle Deux #555276
  • Alphabet Stickers Meadow Lark #555337
  • Vintage Button #550783
  • Other: water color, color pencil, twine, punches, glue, 3D adhesive, white pen, doily

Here is one more project to help with the Monday madness. Brit Sviggum has created a wonderland using the Pixie Glen collection. She gives her photo a sense of whimsy.

Brit - Alle fugler 1

Brit shares her inspiration behind her layout:
I got the idea of making this page of my daughter when I watched her feeding the birds in the garden. She loves to join her father when he is feeding them. I have used some glimmer mist in the background, and I have also sprayed a piece of cheesecloth/gauze. The Garden Gate paper from Pixie Glen collection really did well with this picture. And I have added some Resin and Metal treasures. The title is the name of a Norwegian children's song (about birds) that everybody knows.
Supplies
  • Pixie Glen – Garden Gate Item # 843175
  • Resin - Small birds Item #890773
  • Metal treasures – Hutches Item #890896

Here is what Leslie has to say about her project: When I think of summer weddings, I think of BRIGHT, festive, jovial colors. That’s why I chose this color palette for my project. Instead of inserting a photo  - I decided to use words from a Colbie Calait song “All Of You”. Perfect for a wedding!

What is your biggest source of inspiration?  My biggest source of inspiration is other artists.  I go to art openings, museums, galleries, Pinterest, and blogs whenever I can!  I love to see what other artists are creating and they inspire me to try new things! My students are also a huge inspiration!  They discover new ways of doing things that I might not thought of.  It's awesome to see other people making artwork that I taught them how to do but put their own twist on it!

If you could pick a dream location to teach this year what would it be?
If I could teach anywhere, I'd love to go to Europe or Australia!  A beach location would be amazing too!

Stephanie Miller: California

What is your biggest source of inspiration? My biggest source of inspiration is other artists (scrapper gal pals) that share the same passion! I get excited chatting about all the beautiful products, sharing fun new techniques and thoughts about what we can create! And then... my favorite scrappy magical moment happens! Feeling that creative sensation hit me - I just know how all those colors, beautiful papers, awe-mazing gorgeous flowers, ribbons, embellishments will all come together !! It makes my fingers get jumpy!! ta-hee! Yes, sharing our scrappers passion with each other - it's a Magical Prima Moment! {sounds a bit corny but true for me.. awww I LOVE IT!}

If you could pick a dream location to teach this year what would it be? If I could pick a dream location to teach this year it would be located at a fun craft store with a gorgeous view of the crashing waves on a beach somewhere.. anywhere.. and the store filled with happy scrappers, lots of laughter, amazing scrapping supplies, snacks, and plenty of TIME! :)

If you could pick a dream location to teach this year what would it
be?  It would be New Zealand, and let me cheat and say South America too :)

Do you have a favorite color? I can't pick one- all colors are my friends! Right now I spent lots of time with my friends orange, yellow and purple :)

What is your favorite snack while scrapbooking? I love to chew on bubble gum or red licorice.

If you could pick a dream location to teach this year what would it be? My dream location to teach would be Italy. I would love to visit Rome especially :)

Where would you love to teach? A dream location for me is somewhat limited, so I guess anywhere in the US or Canada-New York or Kentucky would be cool!

What's your favorite color? My favorite color right now is red.

Do you have a favorite color?

Turquoise is my favourite color. I think that is why the Sun Kiss line was one of my favorites also.

If you could pick a dream location to teach this year what would it be?

My dream location to teach would be the Greek Islands. Hopefully I will get there one day.

What is your biggest source of inspiration?
Fashion, even though I am a jean and tee-shirt girl!

Tell us one thing we don't know about you!
             I hate shopping for clothes!

If you could pick a dream location to teach in this year what would it be? I would love to teach in the snow. Anywhere that it’s warm and cosy inside with snow falling outside. We could scrap for a couple of hours, then take a break to drink mulled wine and build snowmen. Then scrap some more. Divine.

Do I have a favourite colour? No. I don’t. I never have, even as a child. I love all colours. I get inspired by them. I drool over the pinks/reds/oranges and yellows found in sunrises and sunsets. The purple in a cloudy day. The blue and greens found in ever changing oceans. Seems I have a thing for nature too?! LOL. But where better do you find the most beautiful colours in the world?

What music do you love to scrap to?
I listen to the radio until lunchtime, when I change to my iPod music.  On my iPod is Black Eye Peas, Cold Chisel, The Cult, Alanis Morrisette, Bruce Springsteen, lots of old stuff that I can sing along mindlessly (and badly) to! In the evenings I turn the radio back on.  I guess I like to listen to DJ chatter sometimes, but when it’s time to get really creative, the iPod goes on!

Do you have a favourite colour?
Teal – hands down.  Love it.   It sneaks into most of my pages in some form.  Teal and red, teal and yellow, teal and orange, teal and teal.

What is your favorite snack while scrapbooking?  I love to have a hot drink, Chai Latte, Coffee, Hot Chocolate. The flavour is less important than the feeling of a warm cup in my hands.

If you could pick a dream location to teach this year what would it be? Somewhere in Scandanavia, as I would dearly love to see the scenery and there are so many wonderful scrapbooking ladies in this area that I would love to meet.

Where is your dream place to teach? ANY place where I can stay just a little while afterwards to visit with the store owners, students and sightsee! I would love to teach in the Czech Republic (to see my grandparent's culture), or Africa or Ireland; or go back to Israel, Italy, or a million other places!

What is your biggest source of inspiration? New photos and new product really inspire me to start creating. I also love how almost everything around me can inspire in some way; from pinterest to online stores, to restaurant menus to billboards.

If you would like any of these talented educators to teach Prima-filled classes just leave a comment here on this post OR contact the gals on their private blogs!

June is the Month for Weddings...

Today we have some beautiful designs, by our brand new design team, to celebrate weddings.

We have a variety of projects ranging from layouts to gifts and even cards.

..............................................................................

Our first project is by Larissa Albernaz. Larissa uses pieces of the enchanting Fairy Belle collection to create this stunning page. She gives her photo a beautiful frame of embellishments.

A dream came true watermark

Here is a little from Larissa about her page... "For this special blog post, I decided to create a layout to portray one of the happiest days of my life - the day of my wedding! I wanted my photo to stand out and that´s why I decided to work with the contrast. I chose a black paper from the 12X12 Script paper pack as my background and added some layers of white and grey papers to create the page´s design with the help of some Prima´s Notecards. After that, I decorated everything with the most gorgeous blooms from Prima"

Lea uses the 6x6 Romantique paper line to make her card. She adds neutral tones for dimension and and subtle accents. She uses a Shabby Chic Resin to highlight her lovely sentiment.

Bride

Here is what gave Heidi the idea to put together this amazing piece..."I am getting a new sister in September, and I thought that today's feature was a perfect time to create her an altered gift box. (That is, unless she sees this post before she receive the box... lol.) Isn't she gorgeous? I wanted to dress her up, and living states away from her - the only way I can do that right now - is by creating a mixed media piece. :)"

Announcing Prima's 2012-2013 Design Team!

The last month has been an absolutely wonderful experience as we pored over entries for our latest Design Team call. Never have we seen so many beautiful projects. The layouts, cards, tags, altered, and mixed media projects simply overwhelmed us. We spent countless hours going through each entry, looking at blogs, re-looking at entries, and blogs, and so on until we finally narrowed down the field.

That was the hardest job. Ever. We know we had one of the most talented group of entrants! Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your time, your energy, your creativity, and the love that you invested into your entries. We appreciate each one of you! If we could have the biggest DT in the world we would, but, since we cannot, we have narrowed the field to this amazing group of designers and guest designers.

Please join us in welcoming the 2012-2013 Prima Design Team and our Guest Designers!

  • What music do you listen to when you scrap? Unfortunately I listen to all kinds of music from opera to disco :) really... But lately I like one song the most... Maroon5 "Moves like Jagger". Very inspiring song.
  • What's your favorite color? I loooove BLUE colour. I adore every kind of blue: cyan, navy, ultramarine, pale blue. This is the colour of my eyes, of the sky and sea - the special one :)

Anna Dabrowska: Poland

  • What's your favorite color?
  • Hah, this is an easy question: black! I use it on every single page together with others of course - colors are a great source of inspiration and main element of any creative project, but I feel that black is special to me: no matter in what way - as embellishment, background, stamping, paint drops, photo - there has to be something black!
  • What is your favorite Prima product ever?
  • I've got 3 favorites: trinkets of all kinds - as I love metal findings, background stamps, which I use over and over again and everything made from canvas: resist elements, canvas sheets, album or book covers, flowers, page elements.

  • What is your favorite thing about your country? My favorite thing about my country Norway is not nature that everyone is so impressed or how well we do in especially winter sports ... What I'm most proud of is actually the people. We have a reputation for being cool and cold, but just see how our country reacted to the terrorist act- July 22th 2011. No promises of revenge ... we were angry, but mostly sad. Very very sad .. But we stood together and showed our grief by caring for each other. I love my country!

  • What is your favorite movie? My favorite movies are simply  "Hang Over" 1 & 2. Along with "Bridesmaids". They are really my kind of movies where I can just relax and laugh so much that the tears flow and I almost cannot breathe :-D

  • If you could go on vacation anywhere in the world where would you go? I want to travel to Australia so bad, I can taste it!!  My husband and I both feel this way, and we have our dream vacation basically planned out!  We want to go to Australia over the Australian Open, take in some good tennis, and just explore the amazing country and all it has to share!!  One day, we will take that dream vacation...I just know it!!

Mixed Media Monday

Today we have a stunning mixed media project designed by Anna Dabrowska. She has created this canvas by using Prima embellishments and a blend of art mediums.

Inviting the wind

Here a little bit from Anna about her work of art: "Inviting The Wind"

My biggest love is mixed-media collage - rich in texture and
details... you can actually say I'm obsessed with creating
multilayered backgrounds and crazy compositions from tiny treasures, flowers and junk coexisting in harmony, giving each other new meanings and giving people fun of finding new and new elements in the collage. What can be more inspiring than Pirma embellishments? Amazing range of flowers, trinkets and gems simply blows my mind, making me play with them, finding new shapes, materials and textures, making them work together with my flea market findings or... computer parts just like I
did here. Flowers and memory chips, gems and usb plugs, vines and metal findings... you can find this all on this mixed media collage! But texture and detail is not enough: my other addiction is color: I used tons of acrylics, Ranger Dylusions and gesso together with LuminArte pigments and Silks to get this effect. What can be more fun? All kinds of color mediums work just perfectly with Prima - try by yourselves and have a wonderful time experimenting!

It's Been A Wonderful Ride Together!

It's that time of the year to say:

THANK YOU!

to our amazing Design Team. After working together on a daily basis for a whole year we have become far more than just co-designers.

This amazingly talented group of gals made the whole year smooth sailing for me as a coordinator. Not only were they super easy to work with (while putting up with me), but they encouraged one another, helped one another, and provided priceless friendship to one another. The camaraderie on the team is simply a wonderful blessing.

Each one of these talented designers constantly brought fresh designs, and the most creative ideas, to share with you. It's not an exaggeration to say that each gal has a special place in my heart!

And a special shout out to a few of my girls who are leaving after fulfilling two years on the team. These gals stepped up to the plate and became amazing mentors to the new gals when the team first started last June. They are talented beyond measure, professional in all their ways, and are going to go places in this industry!

  • Janine Koczwara
  • Stacy Cohen
  • Karola Witczak
  • Trina McClune

As a special treat I want to share one of my favorite projects from each Prima designer from the last year. (It was a tough job choosing just one!)  I ? you girls! ~~ Sharon

Video Day with Heidi Kelley

Today we would like to share with you an amazing project designed by the artistic Heidi Kelley. Heidi has also put a video together to show you how to recreate her stunning page! How great is that?

We hope this helps make your weekend a creative one!

.............................................................................

I love grunge, and I suppose that is no surprise based on the projects that I am forever turning out! One of the things that I adore about Prima is that even though it is beautiful, and girly with its delicate details - it is very easy to turn masculine with its prints, and boyish, by grunging it up!! This video today is all about creating this layout... from start to finish, totally boy, totally grungy, totally Prima.

Scraplift a Little Inspiration

Happy Friday! Today is our last day of the design team's scraplifts for the month. This has been a fun addition to our blog and we hope you've enjoyed it as well. Scraplifting can give you that boost of inspiration and creativity.

...............................................................................

This first stunning layout by Karola Witczak has inspired Hege Lundquist's scraplift for today.

MAY_PPP_KAROLA1

Here is what Hege found creative about Karola's work:

I've had the honor of scraplifting Karola! I've been a great admirer of her for a long time. I chose this slightly different layout with earth colors and cool blue. I chose to focus on how she has built up the layout and the location of all her items.
I have used a different color scale than her when I'm really in love with the bright and pastel ones.
I have really enjoyed this and will probably try even more to
scraplift Karola another time and use her as inspiration later. Thank
you so much, Karola :-)

Our next lift was inspired by this layout by Stacy Cohen. Stacy inspired Maiko Kosugi to create a fresh colorful page.

WalkingonSunshinesized

Here is Maiko's insight on Stacy's beautiful work:

I had the honor of scrap lifting from the very talented Stacy Cohen!
I adore Stacy's color sense filled with her wonderful ideas. It was so difficult to choose which layout to scrap lift since all her layouts are just gorgeous,
but chose this one after seeing Stacy's gallery over and over again!
I followed Stacy's sketch for my layout and decided to make mine using the Sun Kiss Collection.
I love the delicate designs of Stacy's work, and it is a true inspiration where the part Stacy cut paper like waves! I really enjoyed it too!
Also I added some touches of my style by adding a large flower and Vine. I really wanted to add handmade doilies like Stacy did, but since I am not good at it, I decided to add die cut doily to my page. lol
Moreover, I am using the mulberry paper instead of gauze.
And finally, I added modeling paste to some places in order to make the whole color tone more settled down.
Thank you so much Stacy for this wonderful inspiration I really enjoyed it very much!!!

Sharon Laakkonen designed this colorful scrapbook page that inspired Heidi Kelley on her scraplift page.

Meandmyboys

Heidi shares what inspired her about Sharon's page:

I scraplifted this layout of Sharon's for a few reasons! First, I loved the title - something about it struck a chord with me, so I played off of it - just changing it a bit. Secondly, I loved that she used a cluster of three photos. Inspired by this, I tweaked it a bit to feature one larger photo, and stuck a couple smaller photos behind them too to make it look like a pile of pics. I used the same paper line, Doodle Deux, but mimicked her design elements instead of using the same ones. I thought it would be fun to use gesso to take the place of the wide yellow strip in the middle of her page, and then I clustered various cuts from the paper as well. :) Of course, I still had to add my art mediums as well, making the layout my own!

AnnaMarie Modro chose to scraplift this beautiful page by Janine Koczwara:
May You Always Be *Fairy Belle Collection*

To be on the Prima Design Team with the fabulous Janine is truly an honor...to be able to scraplift her – BONUS!!  :) One of the things I admire most about Janine's style (beyond her stunning photography of those gorgeous children! :) ) is her ability to layer - paper, elements, embellishments...she is truly able to layer with ease. As one scans over her page, the eye is drawn to the many layers and details, placed just right...and the way she layers and clusters is both fluid and smooth. There are so many wonderful elements to Janine’s layering - hand-cut images from the patterned papers, mixing and matching of florals, the use of punches, die-cuts, and/or doilies, and the mixing of colors within a palette. And yet even with the multiple layers and clustering going on, there is never a sense of the page being too "busy"...the layers instead serve to enhance her amazing photography which remains central focus.
In scraplifting this layout, I retained many of the original design elements within Janine's "May you always be this sweet" layout, but rearranged some of the vertical layers into horizontal ones and added in more floral elements. Many of Janine’s layouts also seem to highlight one absolutely stunning photo, and I chose to use one photo on my layout as well, slightly enlarging it from her original design.

It was truly an honor to scraplift you Janine - thank you for inspiring me! :)
