Alter your papers with Céline

CelineNavarro_DT_Signature
Hi FPD lovers!  How are you today?!

Today I would like to take you into my Mixed Media world and show you that you can alter your papers easily and quickly with a tiny bit of paints!

I decided to use TWO different Fancy Pants Design b&w papers, as I knew I wouldadd colors to them.

I used the Swagger Gentleman paper and the Park Bench Lightpost paper.

Whether you like acrylic paints, watercolor, crayons or mists, you can use almost anything to alter your papers and turn them into colorful masterpieces.

Here, I used some inks and regular watercolor to add some colorful details to my patterned papers. Then, I simply added tiny drops and splashes of inks using uncaped mists.

Make sure you choose b&w or grey papers to get great contrasts!

My photo was printed on a 8,5x11 photo paper, with high contrast too - perfect to make bold colors pop!

Add some colorful embellishments, like yellow and blue felt flowers, for another kind of texture on you layout.

My title was made using the Artist Edition Stencil that I handcolored with watercolor.

Hope it inspired you and feel free to post your layouts on our Facebook page!

Creative Space with Julie

Juli Bonner_DT_Signature

I am so happy to be here today to share my creative space!!

I used to keep all my scrap supplies in our basement, but when we moved to our current home one of the first things I did was set claim to the home office :)

I am big on organization in my crafting space, and have LOTS of little spaces to house all my supplies.  This makes it easier for me to find exactly what I need.  When you first enter my room, you will see this large storage space on the wall.  It consists of a number of small cubes from my local crafting store, combined together to create a massive center of embellishment organization.  This unit houses pretty much any and all embellishments I have, by brand.  Above the cubes are two small hutch systems placed side by side.

There are lots of little cubbies on this to display projects I've made.  Also, to the left you will see a 3-tiered basket. This contains a bulk of my border punches.

Room1

The wall to the left contains another storage unit.  This is full of cubbies housing paper holders, labeled by manufacturer, to hold all my patterned paper.  The top four cubbies hold baskets containing punches.

Room2

Next to that is a small closet.  It is bit oddly shaped, as there is a slanted wall.  On the slanted wall I placed 4 coat rack holders.  Here, I have all my ribbons hanging by color.  This makes it super easy to find what I need!!  The wire shelves hold a variety of camera supplies, crafting tools, and papercrafting kits.

Room3

To the right of the doorway is more storage.  Again, I configured a number of cubes to create all sorts of places to organize my supplies.  These drawers hold stamps, tools, paint, brads, chipboard, and more.  The open cubes in the middle contain my albums and all my card stock, organized my color.  On top of the unit you will see two typewriters that I use often for journaling.

Room4

Right in front of the windows is my workspace.  It is made up of two saw-horse like desks and a small unit of cubes.  On the desks you will find my computer, printer, and scanner.  The cubes contain a variety of alphas, rub-ons, and 6 x 6 paper pads.  I also have some current kits I am using in the open cubbies.

Room5

This close up of my desk shows you my most frequently used supplies.  The basket contains scissors, journaling pens, adhesive, and rulers.  My Silhouette and sewing machine are right at arm's reach as I often use them on projects.

Room6

While I have lots of older Fancy Pants Designs products within various storage spaces, I keep my most current supplies in this portable file folder tote.  Each collection is placed in a large ziploc bag and the entire container is tucked under my desk when not in use.

Room7

Thanks so much for letting me share my creative space!!

Sketch Monday with Jess

JessMutty_DT_Signature

Welcome to another Sketch Monday! Mondays are, well, Mondays... and that usually means I need a kick start to get my scrappy mojo flowing.  And there's nothing better than a sketch to get your creativity going!

This week I played with the bold colors and fun designs of What a Wonderful Day.

Fun-in-the-Sun

What a Wonderful Day Paper Superb What a Wonderful Day Paper This Way What a Wonderful Day Paper Wonderous What a Wonderful Day Paper Remarkable What a Wonderful Day Paper Strips What a Wonderful Day Sticker Fundamentals What a Wonderful Day Tape Stickers / What a Wonderful Day Label Stickers What a Wonderful Day Patterned Photo Frames What a Wonderful Day Pennants Etcetera 6x6 Paper Pad Etcetera Flair / Artist Edition Vacation Stencil Cards

The patterns on the paper are geometric and so I made my design with lots of geometric circles and rectangles.  The large outer circle is a great way to ground the three smaller embellishment clusters so they don't look like they're "floating" in space.

Fun-in-the-Sun-detail2

I created the title area from a coordinating frame, a painted Artist Edition title block, and two different colors of solid paper under the words.  I like the focus the title has with all the flowers, flags, and a bit of twine.

Fun-in-the-Sun-detail1

And here is the sketch I created for you from my layout.  I think it's pretty versatile and would work with pretty much any photo!

FPD June Sketch

I also created a card from my sketch:

Hello-Hi-Card

I turned the design on it's side so the long mat of patterned paper is horizontal and at the bottom.  But you can definitely see the placement inspiration that I drew from this sketch. The circle is smaller but still anchors three distinct embellishment clusters.

Hello-Hi-Card-detail1

The title area moved into what was the photo on my layout but the focal area is still at the bottom left with lots of little layers.

Thanks for joining me today and I hope you have had a spark of inspiration!

Trends with Tessa

TessaBuys_DT_Signature

Hi everyone! Tessa here with a fun trend - HOT AIR BALLOONS!

One of my fondest childhood memories is of a local hot air balloon festival. As the sun rose, my family and I would watch the empty balloons stretch across a field, then fill with hot air. They took on their round shape and stretched toward the early morning sky as they got taller and stood upright from their baskets. The colors and designs were glorious!

Then, we would watch them lift up and float away - hundreds, it seemed like, filling the sky.

Needless to say, I was so excited to see the hot air balloons make an appearance in the new What a Wonderful Day line. With a title inspired by those hot air balloons, I made a layout about the people who lift me up most - my sisters.

Hotairballoon1a

Wonderful Day Sensational Paper / Wonderful Day Swell Paper / Wonderful Day Strips Paper /Wonderful Day Sticker Fundamentals / Wonderful Day Tape Stickers / White Corrugate Paper

I loved the pre-printed diagonal of balloons, so I kept the rest of my design simple. To embellish the page, I die-cut clouds from the white corrugate paper. I love the texture the corrugated clouds add, especially lifted with dimensional adhesive.

Hotairballoon2a

The little hearts were fussy-cut from the heart tape sticker. The clouds needed some love, too.

Hotairballoon3a

While my scraps were on my table, I decided to make a card featuring a hot air balloon. I used my Silhouette Cameo to paper-piece a colorful, happy balloon.

Hotairballoon4a

To make it feel like the balloon was floating, I used more dimensional adhesive to lift it off the card.

Hotairballoon5a

If your spirits need a lift, try paper crafting with the trendy hot air balloon. I guarantee happiness will result!

FOCUS ON : Chalk Stickers with Diane

DianaBrodeur_DT_Signature

Hi everyone. It’s Diana here to show you a fun new product from Fancy Pants Designs – chalk embellishments! These little guys are pretty cool! They come in the form of labels and even tape! Once I saw these in my box, I just had to give them a whirl.

I used the chalk bracket for both my layout and card. They are perfect placeholders for a title or journaling. Instead of using chalk on the labels, I thought I would try a little something different and mimic the look by using white sticker letters. They really pop against the black chalk background.

Dianabrodeur_0613_chalk2

I discovered that the chalk tape holds up great to punching. I used my chalk tape to punch a sunburst and used it as an embellishment above my picture. Do you see the filter flower in the background? I had fun splattering paint on it to reinforce my paint theme.

Dianabrodeur_0613_chalk3

Here is what the complete layout looks like. The chalk bracket was a perfect addition to my layout about sidewalk chalk.

For my card, I used the same concept as my layout and used the white sticker letters to mimic the chalk look. I also outlined my bracket to really make it stand out from the background.

As you can see, the new chalk labels and tapes are very versatile and fun to use. Check out the other labels and stickers which are available here.

Happy creating!

FOCUS ON : Patterned Photo Frames with Céline

CelineNavarro_DT_Signature
Hello everyone! How are you?

Today I have a brand new layout for you, usin vellum and Fancy Pants Designs Patterned Photo Frames

I used vellum here as a way to soften my background, to create depth here on my patterned papers (the ones inside the photoframe).

The Patterned Photo Frames are a way to focus on the patterned papers inside them, and are part of my 4-rectangle design layout.

My photos and photo frames make the main design here, in the middle of my background here, and the vellum with soften the papers to make the photos pop from the background.

Add felt flowers to create a contrast with the vellum !

IMG_5621
IMG_5622
I sewed the vellum and even stapled it (just for the fun look!) to attach it to my background.

Challenge with Angie

AngieGutshall_DT_Signature

Hello Angie here to share a fun new challenge with you!  I love banners and love having them hanging around.

So my challenge is to MAKE A BANNER!

Here is my banner using the brand new Fancy Pants Designs line called Wonderful Day.  This line is so bright and cheery!  I wanted to make a banner for my girls and so I created one that said "SISTERS".

  June-Project

Capture Memories Emphemera PackWonderful Day Reminder / Wonderful Day Astounding /Wonderful Day Awe-Inspiring / Wonderful Day Remarkable / Wonderful Day Outstanding /Wonderful Day Label Stickers / Wonderful Day Decorative Bags / Wonderful Day Pennants /Wonderful Day Button Set /Square Cork Label Stickers / Artist Editiom Filters / Artist Edition Pink Trim / Artist Edition Metal Frames

To create this banner I first cut out banner pieces from some of the patterned paper.

June-1

I then took each banner piece and machine sewed around the center pieces.

June-2

After I had the pieces sewed I went to town decorating each banner.

I also want to mention I cut the letter out on my Cameo using the patterned paper from the wonderful day collection.

I just love the cute flairs and the Emphemera pack from the new Capture Memories line.

June-3

And aren't those new cork board pieces amazing?!  I think so!

June-4

And in this close up you can see the cute metal charms.  I added a picture to this one.

June-5

And in this close up you can see I used some of the super fun filters.

June-6

After the banner pieces were all decorated I then took some Fancy Pants Design ribbon and sewed across the top of each banner to put them all together.

Hope I inspired you to go create a banner!!

Sketch Monday with Becky

BeckyLitz_DT_Signature

Hi Everyone! Becky here with you today to share a little sketch challenge 2 ways! Have you ever used the same sketch to create both a layout and a card? Well today I’m going to share my take on this challenge with you.

I created this sketch to use for both my layout and my card.

BeckyL-FPDsketch2ways

Let’s start with my layout.

  BeckyL+FPD+layout (3)

Etcetera 6x6 paper pad / Etcetera brag pad / Etcetera decorative tags / Etcetera Flair / Etcetera Patterned Photo Frames / Swagger Paper Clever / Swagger Paper Gentleman / Swagger Paper Mustache Fever / Swagger Sticker Fundamentals / Swagger Label Stickers / Swagger Button Set / Swagger Felt Pieces / Swagger Clips / Swagger Ephemera Pack / Cool Gray Corrugate Paper

I love how the Etcetera collection coordinates so well with the Swagger collection. I mixed and matched pieces and paper from each to bring this layout together. Every year on their birthday, I take a photo of my kiddos wearing the same adult sized piece of clothing. My son wears this shirt and tie that are the size his dad wears, and I take the photo in the same location to help show how much they grow each year. I have done this with my daughter for the past 10 years already and the sweater she wears almost fits her now! The photos on my layout are from this past February when my son turned 2! I can’t wait to see how he grows into his shirt and tie. The Swagger and Etcetera collections were perfect for scrapbooking these photos!

I layered a tag with some letters cut with my die cut machine to create my title. I layered some buttons in place of the letter ‘O’ to add some interest and dimension.

BeckyL+FPD+layout (2)

I layered embellishments, tags, and die cuts up and down from the title on the right side of the page.

BeckyL+FPD+layout (5)

BeckyL+FPD+layout (6)

On the left side of my photos I added a little cluster of embellishments and corrugated paper. The felt tie had orange stripes which didn’t really go with my layout so I colored over the orange. I framed one of my photos with a frame from the Etcetera collection and layered it with some die cuts and stickers.

BeckyL+FPD+layout (1)

With Father’s Day right around the corner I decided to make a Dad themed card. You could give it to Dad for Father’s Day or a Birthday, as a thank you, or just because.

BeckyL+FPD+Swaggercard (3)

Swagger Paper Top Hat / Park Bench Paper Conversation / Swagger Banner Die Cuts / Swagger Felt Pieces / Etcetera Label Stickers / Etcetera Decorative Tags / Etcetera Flair / Swagger Sticker Fundamental

I used the large polkadot tag as the stripe of papers from the sketch and added the title and embellishments down the right hand side like the sketch shows.

BeckyL+FPD+Swaggercard (1)

I used a sticker, letter stickers and cut the word DAD with my die cut machine to create the sentiment on the card. And finally, a bunch of masculine embellishments finish it off.

BeckyL+FPD+Swaggercard (2)

Well, that’s that for me...I’d love to see how you interpret my sketch! If you decide to put your own spin on a layout and card made from the same sketch please send me a link in the comments, I’d love to check it out!

Cardmaking with Jenny

JennyEvans_DT_Signature

Hello Fancy Pants Designs friends!

Today I am sharing some cards with you using the amazing Swagger, Trend Setter & Park Bench collections. The cards are all very different, but have some common elements about them. For instance, they all have buttons (I count the felt flower centers as buttons), have machine stitching, and all of their backgrounds are from the different collection's brag pads.

JennyEvans_FPD_5cardJune2013

Now, let's go through each card, shall we??

  JennyEvans_FPD_Hello_card

Trend Setter Brag Pad / Trend Setter Patterned Photo Frames / Trend Setter Banner Die Cuts / Trend Setter Felt Flowers / Trend Setter Button Set

For my first card, I used the Trend Setter collection. I started off with the Hello banner sentiment from the Banner Die Cuts page. I then went to the brag pad for my background paper. I added the frame and the other banner strip, and then did my stitching. I lifted the banner ends on the right side of the card and stitched under them so they would hang over. I finished it off with the felt flower and buttons.

A detailed photo of my first card.

Park Bench Brag Pad / Park Bench Felt Flowers

For card #2 I went with the Park Bench collection. I have to say that this color combo is one of my favorites! The brag pad is the star of this card, as the whole base of it is one sheet from the pad! I simply cut the sentiment part off, matted it on some smooth, black cardstock and added my stitching embellishments. Then, I stitched the sentiment back on and added the felt flower. All that was left was to adhere that to the cardbase (that is a great way to hide your stitching, too!)

A detailed photo of card #2.

JennyEvans_FPD_ManOfTheHour_card

Swagger Brag Pad / Swagger Success Paper / Swagger Ephemera Pack / Swagger Felt Pieces / Swagger Button Set

The next card is made using the Swagger collection. I knew that I wanted to make a card using the felt pieces, but I thought it would be with one of the mustaches. But, after pushing paper around, I decided that the cute, little tie deserved his own card! The background is from the brag pad, and is matted on smooth, black cardstock. I cut my own banner, instead of one of the die cuts, as I really wanted to use the Success paper. I adhered my banner and sentiment, and then did my machine stitching. Then I added the buttons and felt tie, and adhered the card front to the card base.

  JennyEvans_FPD_ManOfTheHour_card2

A closer look at this card.

  JennyEvans_FPD_CallMe_card

Trend Setter Brag Pad / Trend Setter Banner Die Cuts / Trend Setter Sticker Fundamentals / Trend Setter Flair / Trend Setter Button Set

On to card #4! For this one I used Trend Setter. After pulling out all of this collection for my first card, I knew that I wanted to make a card with the "call me..." sentiment. I also wanted to make a card from this collection using only the blue/green colors. I pulled out everything I wanted to use and just started placing things until I liked the over all look. I then stitched down the banners, and adhered the flair, the buttons and sentiment. I added some foam adhesive to the banner ends to give a little dimension to those pieces.

JennyEvans_FPD_Smile_card

Park Bench Brag Pad / Park Bench Light Post Paper / Park Bench Button Set

And here is your last card for today, using the Park Bench collection. The sentiment was so pretty sitting in the brag pad, but I knew that I wanted to cut it out, stitch on it, and then foam adhere it on to another paper. So, I did! I love how it looks like there is all these layers and dimension, but it is one, single sheet! I added some trim to the top and bottom and then stitched them down. I topped the card off with a button, and that is it!

JennyEvans_FPD_Smile_card2

A close-up of the final card.

And there you have it! I hope these cards inspire you to get out your Fancy Pants Designs products and get creative!!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

5 Designer Tips with Stacy

StacyCohen_DT_Signature

Hi everyone!  When it comes to scrapbooking, I’m normally a 1-page layout kind of gal.  However, I sometimes create 2-page layouts for magazine assignments and classes because many scrappers prefer that format.  Here’s a 2-page spread I created using the lovely Park Bench collection :

You Make Me Happy Stacy Cohen FPD

Park Bench Paper Park Walk / Park Bench Paper Light Post / Park Bench Paper Strips / Park Bench Flower Garden / Park Bench Paper Blanket / Park Bench Paper Pond Fundamentals / Park Bench Flair / Park Bench Label Stickers / Park Bench Decorative Tags / Park Bench Button Set /

If you’re used to scrapping 1-page layouts, you might find that 2-page spreads are a little more challenging (I certainly do!).  I have 5 tips to share in this regard.

Tip #1:  Use 8.5” x 11” size pages instead of the standard 12” x 12” size pages.

One of the challenges of creating 2-page layouts (when you’re used to doing 1-pagers) is that the “canvas” is twice as big and therefore you have more space to fill.  Plus, you’re scrapping on a long rectangle shaped canvas rather than a square one.  A couple years ago I switched from 12” x 12” pages to 8.5” x 11” pages for 2-page spreads (thank you, Kim Watson, for this idea!).  I found the smaller paper size to be easier to work with because there’s a smaller space to fill and the overall shape is closer to the square that I’m used to when I scrap 1-page 12” x 12” layouts.

Tip #2:  Balance, but not necessarily symmetry.

The two page designs don’t have to be -- and in most cases shouldn’t be -- perfectly symmetrical.  But they should be balanced.  As you’ll notice above, there’s a cluster of embellishments on the bottom left of my layout that balances out the cluster of embellishments on the top right side.  Additionally, I balanced out the one large photo on the left side with three smaller photos on the right side.

Tip #3:  Add a unifying element.

To create a cohesive look to the two pages, add at least one unifying element that joins the pages into one integrated layout.  I did this with the chevron patterned paper strip that runs along the bottom of the layout from one side to the other.

You Make Me Happy Stacy Cohen FPD close-up

Tip #4:  Use a variety of eye-catching embellishments to anchor the primary photo.

When you have multiple photos on a layout, sometimes the focal photo gets lost in the shuffle.  If you have one prominent photo that you want to highlight, anchor the photo with a large cluster of layered embellishments to make it stand out.

You Make Me Happy Stacy Cohen FPD close-up2

Tip #5:  Add small details and dimension to help draw the eye all around the page.

My layout is pretty simple overall, so I wanted to make sure that there were detailed accents on both sides of the page to draw the eye all around.  To add some detail to my page, I machine-stitched around the background papers.   In addition, I added clusters of dollies and ruler strips (fussy cut from the patterned papers) that I popped up with 3D adhesive.  I topped off the clusters with some small buttons and stickers.
