Fancy This: Flower Tutorial

  AllisonLandyFramed
Hi Everyone! It's a rainy day here in Phoenix. So, what better way to spend it than playing with the sunshine-y lines of Beach Babe and About a Girl! The bright hues are perfect for scrapping about a trip my daughter and I took to Costa Rica last January. As I was gathering the photos of these goofy toucans we saw, I knew that I wanted to create a fairly large, focal point embellishment. I decided to put a twist on the ribbon flowers popping up lately.

Fancy Pants Supplies:
About a Girl: Lola patterned paper
About a Girl: Brooklyn patterned paper
About a Girl: Strips patterned paper
Beach Babe: Reef patterned paper
Beach Babe: Strips patterned paper
Beach Babe: Chipboard Alphas
Beach Babe: Design Embellishments
It’s Your Day Trim
Tradition Trim

Other Supplies:
Paint
Marker
Die cut machine
Floss

Instructions:

1. Cut out a flower or sun image with an even number of petals/points from a patterned piece of paper. You can do this either by hand or with an electronic cutter of your choice.

AllisonLandy2-28step1

2. Find some coordinating floss and tape one end to the back of the cut out image.

AllisonLandy2-28step2

3. Start wrapping the floss around the image so that it goes from one end to the opposite end.

AllisonLandy2-28step3

4. Keep wrapping until floss has gone in between each petal/point. Cut end off and tape to back of shape.

AllisonLandy2-28step4

5. Take 1 foot of ribbon and tuck it under the floss, then tie one end off.

AllisonLandy2-28step5

6. Weave the ribbon over and under the floss until there is not enough ribbon to go over and under another time.

AllisonLandy2-28step6

AllisonLandy2-28step7

7. Tuck both ends under the ribbon center.

AllisonLandy2-28step8

8. I wanted a flattened look, so I sewed around the ribbon in messy circles.

AllisonLandy2-28step9

9. I added a little dry brushing of white paint.

AllisonLandy2-28step10

I've enjoyed playing with these summer filled colors, and even though it's still raining across the desert, I have sunny days on my mind. Hope you do too!

Product Spotlight: It's The Little Things Cards

AmyPetermanFramed
When was the last time you scrapbooked about yourself? I know I don't do it enough. I'm sure you can relate. And I'm sure you'll agree that it's important to take time to get in front of the camera and record where you are in you life from time to time, even if it's about simple, little things that make you happy. That's why I love that the new It's The Little Things: Cards patterned paper. The sweet designs and written prompts make becoming the subject of your own scrapbook page, easy and fun. Take a look at how Pamela Young and Guiseppa Gubler used today's Product Spotlight to give the generations after them a glimpse into who they are.

Little Things I Love
by Pamela Young
Pamela says, "Instead of cutting out one card and using it for my journaling, I decided to use 5 cards and create my background with it. I added some filters sprayed with pink glimmer mist and the bird cage glitter cut. And the papers are all from the "It's The Little Things" collection ... it's one of my favorites from the new releases. My pictures weren't that great...they were taken with my phone, but I still used them.  :)"

Guiseppa says, "It has been so much fun using Fancy Pants products, specially their new
collections! Today I am spotlighting the "cards" from the "It's the Little Things" collection. I knew right away when I first saw these that they would be perfect for a little mini album.  I decided to focus on all of the fun and cute little sayings that are found in this collection. These fun little cards were so much fun to dress up! My mini album is about finding joy everyday. In this album, I share the things that bring me joy. Hope you find joy in it as well."

Pocket Chick Pick: Sarah Crawford

LisaAndrewsFramed
When I saw Sarah's layout, on the Fancy Pants facebook page, I really liked the way she had arranged all of the elements on the page. I decided that it would be perfect for a scraplift.

SCrawford_Addiebath

by Sarah Crawford

I stuck to the same basic design Sarah used by using two photos, a patterned paper strip under the photos and a clutter of embellishments on the right lower corner of the photos.

FP_lisaandrews_Feb25

I loved all of the waves and swirls on the background paper from the new Beach Babe line and I didn't want to cover it all up with photos. So I did a little cutting with my craft knife so that the waves and swirls could overlap some of my photos.

Thanks to Sarah for the inspiration!

Pocket Chick Spotlight: Greta Hammond

GretaHammondFramed
Hey everyone! I'm Greta Hammond and excited to share a bit about me on the FB blog! I have been with Fancy Pants since 2007 and have loved being part of the team and working with their amazing releases. I currently work from home doing freelance work in the scrapbooking industry but love being available when my two kiddos get off the bus. I love what I do!

Q: How long have you been scrapbooking?
A: I have been scrapbooking for the past 10 years. Although I have always loved photography and documenting life that way, it wasn't until the birth of my first child that scrapbooking really became a part of my life.

Q: What time of day do you usually scrapbook and where?
A: I rarely scrap anywhere besides my scrap room. I'm not one for crops or taking my stuff elsewhere because I don't plan that well! I typically scrap during the day while the kids are at school and then after they go to bed at night.

Q: What is your favorite Fancy Pants product?
A: My favorites change all the time but I am really loving the new filter paper embellishments. They are so fresh and new and so much fun! I also adore the new "Little Things" line. The colors are amazing!

GretaHammond Little Things tray 1
GretaHammond Little Things tray 2
GretaHammond little Things tray 3

Q: What do you listen to or watch while scrapbooking?
A: If I'm home alone, I will watch tv on my computer or download something from Netflix. However, most of the time I don't have anything on because I tend to come and go too much! One of the downfalls of working from home, is always feeling the need to start a load of laundry or clean up the kitchen. It all seems to get done though, so I guess it works.

Q: If someone was to walk into your scrap room/area right now, what would they find?
A: Ummm ... yeah. A mess. I would love to say that this is not typical but I would be lying! I can't seem to keep up with organizing new product and the purging old. Every once in awhile I get things cleaned out and organized but it doesn't seem to stay that way for long. Oh well!

Fancy This: I {heart} You Mini with Tote

SuzanneSergiFramed
One of my favorite projects to create is mini albums! I love pre-made albums, but sometimes by using dies, punches, and pieces of chipboard, I can create an album quickly! Today, I am going to share with you a small mini using It's the Little Things collection. I love creating mini containers to tuck my mini albums into. I am going to share with you how easy it is to turn an ordinary tote bag into something special! Also, with a little bit of glitter you can add instant sparkle to your projects!

SuzanneSergiiheartu

Fancy Pants Supplies:
It's the Little Things: Four Birds patterned paper
It's the Little Things: Feathered patterned paper
It's the Little Things: Spring Fever patterned paper
It's the Little Things: Bird Cage patterned paper
It's the Little Things: Shuffle patterned paper
It's the Little Things: Gerber Daisy patterned paper
It's the Little Things: Headed South patterned paper
It's the Little Things: Strips patterned paper
It's the Little Things: Cards patterned paper
It's the Little Things: Flocked Transparency
It's the Little Things: Glitter Cuts
It's the Little Things: Design Embellishments
It's the Little Things: Buttons
Fancy Pants Ribbon

Other Supplies:
spray Mist
string
canvas bag
felt
glitter
acrylic paint

Canvas Bag Instructions:
You will need a canvas tote bag, and some spray mist. Super minimal, and super easy! I like to include a chipboard insert, inside the tote as I begin to mist.
SuzanneSergiFancyThisCanvasBag

You simply want to begin on one side, and spray entire surface using your favorite mist. Do not forget the sides, handles, and the crevices. Let dry.
SuzanneSergiCanvasToteBagTwo

There are so many possibilities with embellishing! I simply chose to create a large flower that was used on the cover of my mini album. I also used a mist on the flowers to give it dimension, and shine!

Mini Album Glitter Covers Instructions:
You will need acrylic paint, glitter, and your chipboard covers.
SuzanneSergicoverinstructionsa

1. Apply a generous amount of paint on the outer edges of your covers.
SuzanneSergiMiniAlbumCoversa

2. Sprinkle glitter onto the painted surface. The paint will act as your adhesive. I used a very coarse glitter on my covers.
Suzannesergiminialbumcoversb

3. I adhere the Pecking Order paper, diecut into a circle, to the center of my cover.
SuzanneSergiminialbumcoversc

4. Now, I begin to build my bloom on top of this circle. All of the blooms were misted, and then cut in between each scallop. This gives my flower added texture, and dimension.
SuzanneSergiMinialbumcoversd

5. Adhere two scallop blooms on top, layered a cricle from felt, and finish with a button in the center! Your cover is complete!
SuzannsergiMinialbumcovere

6. However, I am all about the details, so how about one last sweet embellishment with a lot of sparkle?
Sparkle It Technique:
This is done in three steps. So easy, but adds so much shine to your projects!
SuzanneSergiSparkleIttechnique

a. All you need is an adhesive applicator, your element, and glitter!
SuzanneSergiSparkleTechniquea

b. Run your element, with the printed side "Face Down" through the adhesive applicator. (The adhesive will be on top of your image.)
SuzanneSergiSparkleittechniquea

c. Apply glitter across your image!
SuzanneSergiSparkleita
Suzannesergisparkleitb

Instant sparkle, and oh so pretty!!! This technique works with all size preprinted diecuts, chipboard embellishments, and stamped images.  All you need is the correct size adhesive applicating machine, and glitter!!!

Here is my finished cover:
SuzanneSergifinalcoverimage

Now, the fun part begins, with building your pages!!!
SuzanneSergiminialbuminsides

I added one last bit to the cover, the sparkled rainbow! With the cute It's the Little Things Detail embellishment pack, it is hard to resist!!! I hope you have enjoyed this Mini Album tutorial! With Fancy Pants papers, and a little sparkle, you can add so much detail to your projects!!

Pocket Chick Pick: Anthea Peterson

I am a journaling spot junkie and so I was immediately drawn to Anthea's icy wintertime page! I love the way she layered them up and added texture and dimension to her layout with the fun snowflakes and twine!

I am ready for the summer sun to spread some warmth, so I choose some beach pictures of my girls and the new Beach Babe collection for my project.

The Beach Babe line's Journal Embellishments were perfect to achieve this look. I spread my journaling spots out a little and layered them with dimensional adhesive to give my layout a similar look as Anthea's! Then I used the new Beach Babe Glitter Cuts to fill in all the embellishment spots! I loved how it turned out!

Thanks for the inspiration Anthea!

Pocket Chick Spotlight: Cindy Tobey

  CindyTobeyFramed
Hello! Cindy Tobey, here – I am so excited to be able to share a little about myself with you today. I’ve been married to my college sweetheart, Allan for almost 16 years - I feel so old saying that! We have two amazing kiddos, Moya who is 11 going on 16 and Elijah who is 8 thankfully just going on 9! Church, homework, piano, basketball, soccer, volleyball, running, Cub Scouts, Legos and we can’t forget Super Mario Brothers are all a part of life at the Tobey’s. Sounds glamorous, doesn’t it? I certainly love it!

I’ve been with Fancy Pants since 2007, and I have to tell you, the past four years as a Pocket Chick has been an amazing creative adventure that I’ve loved! I am so blessed to be working with such great people and products.

CindyT Rest-500

Q: What is your favorite Fancy Pants product?
A: While I love the beautiful paper collections, my love of Fancy Pants started with my first purchase of their alterable products (raw chipboard) and that is where it still is for me. I LOVE the Artists Edition collection. My favorites are the Mixed Media Books, and the new Banners and Filter Papers – which are super fun to alter with spray ink or even chalk ink pads. For my page above I inked the edges of the filter paper with a small chalk ink pad.

CindyT-Rest-Detail-500

Q: What is your favorite technique?
A: Sewing. I love the detail and texture that it adds to a page.

Q: What are some goals you have for yourself, scrap-related or personal?
A: Scrap-related I’d love to author an idea book and possibly design product. My dream to work as an illustrator is still alive too. I love to draw and paint, and ever since working with illustrators (years ago) as an Art Director it has been a dream of mine. I was actually working on finding my own illustration style when I stumbled, or rather, Amy Peterman pulled me – and I'm so glad she did – into the scrapbooking industry.

Q: What is/are the most unique topic/photos that you have scrapbooked?
A: My daughter cleaning the toilet for the first time. Hey, we have to document all those firsts right? LOL! Actually the photos were too funny not to scrap. I just had to. Why do I have photos of her cleaning the toilet? I think the camera was probably just sitting close by and once the faces of disgust started the instinct to grab the camera and click away took over.

Q: If someone was to walk into your scrap room/area right now, what would they find?
A:  A freezing Cindy with her space heater on high! It’s cold in Michigan in February! My studio is pretty clean right now. I clean up after every project…or assignment. It will get messy this afternoon though.

Q: What type of camera do you use?
A: My husband and I share a Canon Powershot and a Canon Rebel XTi, though we really want to upgrade to a Canon 5D. I love that my hubby is into photography too – it gives me twice as many photos to play with!

Q: Share something quirky about yourself.
A: This isn’t so much quirky as it is just random information, but I’m the girl in the plastic bubble. I have a LOT of allergies, including food allergies. Grocery shopping with me or eating at my house is an interesting experience!

Thanks for stopping by today and letting me share a little about myself. Have a great day and come back tomorrow for our next Product Spotlight.

Fancy This: Love Notes Mini Album

RachelTuckerFramed
I love making mini albums and today I want to share with you a quick and easy mini album that you can make right now for someone you love. Perfect for Valentines day because it is made from the Love Birds Valentines Cards collection. It is a mini album that has no photos but small sweet notes for your loved one.

RachelTucker project image 0 blog Feb11

First we will need to gather some supplies.

RachelTucker Image 1 Blog feb11

Fancy Pants Supplies:
Love Birds Valentines Cards kit (this kit includes 24 cards and envelopes and a sticker sheet)
Love Birds True Love pattern paper

Other Supplies:
White cardstock
Paper doily
Calico fabric
Brown ink
Black journaling pen
Border punches and/or decorative edge scissors
Circle punches in a variety of sizes from 1 – 2 ½ inches
Sewing machine or needle and thread

Lets begin.

1. Using white cardstock cut a piece measuring 10 inches wide x 4 ½ inches tall.

RachelTucker image2 blog feb11

2. Corner round all four corners and ink in a light brown ink.
3. Fold in half to create your album.
4. Take four envelopes from the Valentines Cards kit, fold them into envelopes and trim one of the “folding” flaps down to 1 inch as shown.

RachelTucker image 3 Blog Feb11

5. Check to ensure that the envelopes are going to fit inside the cover but do not adhere in place. Remove them from the album and ink all the envelope edges in a light brown ink.

RachelTucker image 4 Blog feb11

6. Cut a piece of calico fabric slightly smaller than the white cardstock, cover the cardstock in glue stick and adhere the fabric to the cover.

RachelTucker image 5 Blog Feb11

7. Stitch on a sewing machine (or by hand) the edges of the album to secure the fabric in place.

RachelTucker image6 blog Feb11

8. Slip the envelopes back into the album and stitch down the edge at 1 inch from the margin. Ensure that you “catch” the edge that you cut from the envelopes in the seam.

RachelTucker image7 Blog Feb11

9. To make the “notes” for the inside of the envelopes – take a white piece of cardstock and either print out or hand write onto it. Take out one of the Love Birds Valentines cards and trace around with a pencil. Cut out and adhere to the back of the card. Corner round the edges. Repeat four times.

RachelTucker image8 Blog Feb11

10. Tuck the notes inside the envelopes and secure with a Love Birds Valentines sticker.

RachelTucker image9 Blog Feb11

11. Print or hand write small “open here” labels and attach to the sticker and envelope. The note can be opened by taking the sticker off, or simply by sliding from the pocket.

RachelTucker image10 Blog Feb11
RachelTucker image11 Blog Feb11
RachelTucker Image12 Blog Feb11

12. For the front cover punch a selection of circles from the Love Birds Valentines cards and the Love Birds True Love paper. Punch two white strips of white cardstock, ink in brown ink and layer on top of the doily.

RachelTucker image13 Blog Feb11

13. To finish – using the remainder Love Birds True love pattern paper, cut two pieces 4 inches by 4 inches and use to cover the front and back inside covers to hide the sewing.

RachelTucker image14 Blog Feb11

I hope that I have inspired you to create a “notes” mini album for your special someone. The Love Birds Valentines Cards kit makes it so quick and easy.

Pocket Chick Pick: Lg Elefano Belarmino

BenedicteRaphalenFramed
My pick comes from Lg Elefano Belarmino's layout. What struck me first and inspired me most about this project were the beautiful portrait photos of this sweet litlle girl and the way they were set on the layout. I also really love the series of borders (scallop, punched with butterflies...) that she put on her layout.

Sweet Smile by Lg Elefano Belarmino

To create my own layout, I set the photos exactly the same way.

Benedicte Raphalen Pocket chick pick

I also used borders and butterflies but with a more freestyle touch, thanks to the colorful Love Birds collection.

Pocket Chick Spotlight: Amy Peterman

AmyPetermanFramed
Hi everyone! I'm so happy to be able to share a little about myself with you today! I'm Amy Peterman, and I'm blissfully married to the cute boy I met when I was going on 15. We have two beautiful girlies, Hattie and Josie, and two crazy puppies, Millie and Remi. My family fills my life with so much joy and adventure ... life is never boring at the Peterman home!

I've been a part with Fancy Pants since 2007. I love being on this team and am blown away every time Fancy Pants comes up with something new and (always) brilliant! It has truly been a blessing to be a Pocket Chick!

Q: What is your favorite Fancy Pants product?
A: I think many of the other Pocket Chicks would agree with me that the new Filter Paper Embellishments are THE BOMB! All of you who are waiting to try them—you will love them!

Q: What is your favorite technique?
A: I really love working with paint. It's my first love. It's not often that I create a layout that doesn't include a least a little of it. I love the subtle texture of the brush strokes and the artsy quality the paint adds.

HereAndNow

Q: What are some goals you have for yourself, scrap-related or personal?
A: Scrap-related ... some day I'd love to design product and write a book, but those things will probably have to wait until both of my girls are in school all day. And my personal goals ... right now I am training for my first half-marathon that I will run on Memorial Day weekend. I'm really not sure what I've gotten myself into! I know that when I accomplish the goal though, I will be very proud of myself.

Q: If someone was to walk into your scrap room/area right now, what would they find?
A: Right at this moment, you will see a very clean, very organized space. This is NOT normal! We are trying to sell our house right now, so the rest of the house is staying very clean too, in case we need to show it to a potential buyer. When we're not trying to sell our house, my scrap space is usually in a state of happy messiness, although I never let it get too out of control.

Q: What do you listen to or watch while scrapbooking?
A: Sometimes I listen to iTunes on my computer, but lately I've just been enjoying the quiet while I scrap during Josie's naps and Hattie is in school.

Q: What are some other hobbies you enjoy?
A: I LOVE knitting! I also enjoy cooking and baking, running, making quilts and small sewing projects.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself?

Pocket Chick Pick: Stacey Michaud

JenMartakisFramed
I picked Stacey's layout because the simple design really caught my eye. I love a clean design (and I'm also a fan of Stacey)!

Sweet Hugs by Stacey Michaud

I stayed very true to her layout, just adding a little here and taking a little there. ;) I used the new Fancy Pants Beach Bum collection. I am in love with the colors and fun embellishments. Perfect for those summer beach photos.

CindyTobeyFramed
With February here and Valentine's Day just under two weeks away, I thought taking a closer look at our Love Birds collection would be fun! Twenty-six adorable stickers perfect for sealing those Valentine card envelopes, as well as decorating your love themed scrapbook pages and projects.

LoveBirds SquareElementStickers

So what do you think? Pretty cute, right? Take a look at what our Pocket Chicks did with these sweet little stickers!

Iris-Uy-With-Love-Frame

With Love by Iris Babao Uy
Iris says, "I adore the designs in the square stickers and wanted to keep the focus on that. I decided to create a Valentine Easel Stand Frame using the stickers as the main design element."

KatjaS-Birds of a Feather

Birds of a Feather by Katja Schneider
Katja says, "The Love Birds Stickers are so cute that I wanted to make them stand out on my page and be part of my design. I have kept other embellishments to a minimum to allow the stickers to be the focus. I have tied them together by sewing around the stickers and connecting them as well as lifting some of them with pop dots."

LeahFarquharson_love_you
Love You by Leah Farquharson
Leah says, "Ever since I first saw these little square stickers, I've wanted to put together a layout just like this. They're perfect for this type of graphic style look - and turn lots of the focus to the photos! Our boys are so silly... this was when I was setting up a family photo shoot and they were hamming it up for the camera with dad - our youngest got over it quick, but the oldest kept throwing faces! Love it!"

I just love what Iris, Katja and Leah did with these stickers! Don't you? Thanks for stopping by today and be sure to come back Friday for our latest Pocket Chick Pick!

Pocket Chick Spotlight: Brenda Hurd

 BrendaHurdFramed
Hi, my name is Brenda Hurd and I'm so grateful to be joining the Fancy Pants team for another year. I love scrapbooking and the satisfaction I get from creating something that I know my family will treasure forever, for generations to come. Fancy Pants products are amazing and so versatile to any scrapbooker. I am currently a stay-at-home mom and a full-time student (which has really made my scrapbooking time more precious than ever). I live in Honeyville, Utah - we just moved here 6 months ago and are still trying to fit in. :) But we love our home and the land around it, so it makes up for it all. I have a wonderful husband of 14 years and 3 beautiful kids who are usually the spotlights in my work.

Just-me

Q: What is your favorite Fancy Pants product?
A: Probably the paper, I LOVE paper, and even if I struggle with the A side, Fancy Pants has always had FABULOUS B sides that are so versatile and I love the distressed feel in most of the lines.

Q: What is your favorite technique?
A: Distressing, distressing and distressing :), I also love misting.

Q: How long have you been scrapbooking?
A: I started when I was about 14, (more than 20 years ago) and haven't stopped since!

Q: If someone was to walk into your scrap room/area right now, what would they find?
A: A really big mess. Now that I seem to have less time to scrapbook because I'm going to school - I hardly ever clean up after myself, I seem to just keep adding project on top of project on top of project - I'm going to start losing things soon.

Q: What do you listen to or watch while scrapbooking?
A: I just recently discovered Pandora (I know I'm late to the game :)) but I love it!

Q: What time of day do you usually scrapbook and where?
A: Like ten o'clock at night - too late.  Every once in a while I can grab a few hours during the day, but I'm usually studying then.

Q: What are some other hobbies you enjoy?
A: I love being outdoors and going camping with my family. I also like to cross stitch - even though my latest project is going on 5 years. But i still enjoy it!

Q: Share something quirky about yourself.
A: I never go barefoot. I always have socks or slippers on - even when I wear sandals or flip flops in the summer, I always take a pair of socks with me so I can put them on if I have to take my shoes off.
