Inspiration From The Everyday: Gift Wrapping

Over the recent festive period I was inspired by the beautifully wrapped gifts which my family were fortunate to receive.

The twirled gift ribbon particularly caught my eye and inspired me to attempt to incorporate paper twirls in to my next scrapbook page design.

Whilst putting the page together I knew I didn’t want the twirled paper to take away focus from the main image, so set about using them as an extension of the page accents in hope of drawing the viewer’s eye across the page.

By cutting thin ribbon strips of patterned paper I was able to achieve the twirled effect by gently drawing the paper across the blade of my scissors and thus creating gentle twirls which tumble from the top to the bottom of the page design.

Inspiration certainly is all around and I hope I have inspired you today to try adding paper twirls to your page or project designs!

Product Spotlight: Love Story

Valentine's Day is only a little over a month away. So, why not stock up on some of our newest collection—Love Story! And with the ideas below from a few of our Pocket Chicks, come Valentine's Day, you'll be ready to scrap those fun, lovey-dovey memories.

Snow Beauty by Yuki Shimada
Yuki says, "I just love the sweet colors of the Love Story collection! I made a non-Valentine’s Day theme page this time. I added some buttons and pom-pom ribbon from the Beach Babe collection. I love it! The pink rick-rack trim and ribbon are from the Artist's Edition collection as well as the white chipboard alphas. I used some Filter Embellishment flowers on this page. They are my all-time favorite products!! I made a flower with the white Floral Filter Embellishments and the pink brad from the  Beach Babe collection. I added pink ink on the edge of the large white Filter Embellishment, and put the yellow circle Filter Embellishment from the Baby Mine collection at the bottom."

Sweet Hearts by Amy Peterman
I love the neutral colors in this collection. They are almost like a kraft paper color—a wonderful compliment to the fun, punchy reds, hot pinks and aquas in the patterned paper and stickers. For my large heart accent, I cut a heart from one of the patterned papers and then cut a small heart out of it. I then placed a red doily heart behind the opening. I then adhered the large heart on top of a another doily hear with foam adhesive, so I had room to tuck in a little tage with journaling on it.

Everyday by Kim Watson
Kim says, "The colors & designs of this Love Story collection are so beautiful & sophisticated. I love how the red & magenta perfectly compliment the neutrals. Just what I needed for a page about 'big-people' love :)"

Guest Designer: Geralyn Sy

Hi everyone! I’m Geralyn Sy, and I’m so honored to be Fancy Pants’ guest designer this month. I’ve been scrapbooking for a few years now, and I’m currently on the Crate Paper design team and Studio Calico design team. When looking through Fancy Pants’ collections, I fell in love with the new Love Story collection. This Valentine’s collection is so pretty and I love the patterns and color combination of neutrals, reds, pinks and blues. I was so excited to work with this line!

I Love You
There are so many beautiful neutral colors in this collection, so I cut strips of paper from the various neutral designs for the background, and also added a pop of red. This is one of my favorite photos of my sister and nephew. The pretty blue patterned paper (Love Always) was perfect to highlight my sister’s blue shirt. I also cut out the fun text hearts from the One Heart patterned paper and popped them up with some foam adhesive.

The pretty pinks in Love Story are perfect for a fun, girly layout about my cousin. I love the tiny little envelopes on the XOXO paper, so I cut some of them out for this layout and popped them up with foam adhesive. I also had fun with the coffee filters and misted them with some pink mist.

Be Mine
Of course, this collection is perfect for Valentine’s Day cards! I made this simple card using Love Story’s patterned papers and a large element sticker.

Thanks so much Fancy Pants for having me as a guest and I hope you like what I’ve made with the Love Story collection!

Product Spotlight: Winterland

Brrrr, it's finally starting to feel a little more like winter here in the mid-west. Now if only we'd get some snow! I love winter. The crisp, nippy days frolicing in the snow make for wonderful cozy nights by the fireplace. Our new collection, Winterland, reminds me of all that I love about Winter. Take a look at a few creations using this delightful line.

All Bundled Up by Jodi Sanford
Jodi syas, "I love the Winterland is so beautiful, soft and pretty ... and the other thing I love, is that it can also be as fun and playful as my kids in the snow!  The color pallet is softer than my images, but by highlighting some of the brighter colors in the line, it helps to tie the photos in and comes together with a fun and vibrant look!!"

1+1=2 by Jodi Sanford
Jodi says, "For this layout, I went with the more sophisticated looks of the line! I focused in on the softer colors, added more ink for distressing and the softer look came right out!  I also snuck in a flashcard from our Off to School collection ...WinterlandCloseUp
... and the text paper is actually from our new Love Story collection, and the chipboard banners are from the Summer's End line ... so, there is definitely opportunity to change things up a bit and mix and match with the versatility of Winterland ... love it!"

Sweet Snow by Amy Peterman
When I received this collection, I immediately thought of these photos. What is more wintery than a big ol' bite of snow? Mmmm... Brrrr! I love the soft tones in this collection and the pretty snowflake patterns throughout.

Baby It's Cold Outside by Lisa Tenney
Lisa says, "I just love the soft colors of the Winterland line! These papers were perfect for these cute pictures of my granddaughter in the little sweater and hat set I crocheted for her! I used a spray mist to color the Artist's Edition filter embellishments, then folded and cut some fun snowflakes to add some dimension to my layout...
I punched out a scalloped circle for the center of each of my snowflakes, from the Warm Mitten paper, backed them with punched brown circles and added some buttons. I also added in the crocheted lace trim from the Lilac House line to tie in the crochet theme and added my journaling in waves to make it look like the words were blowing on a blustery day!"
