Fancy Friday Freebie! + FFF Inspiration

FancyFriday_header
Enjoy this free Saint Nick Candy Canes download and add something sweet to your digital and paper crafting projects!

FancyFreeFreebie_ad
And here's more to enjoy! Some inspiration from Piradee and Suzanne using some of our past Fancy Friday Freebies!!

Piradee - FP November1
Memories by Piradee Talvanna
Piradee says, "Hi Everyone, hope you guys are enjoying this month's Fancy Friday Freebies and just loving the sweet fall colors from the Summer's End collection that are being used to created these. Here I selected the November calendar download to create a fun calendar layout to capture some of the "memories" being created this month. Even though the files are created using the colors and elements from the Summer's End collection, I found that the Hopscotch collection works perfectly and went about embellishing the page with die cut leaves and chipboard/buttons from the collection.
Piradee - FP November2

Also I double punched the circle rings to be used to highlight the key dates. At the moment, I can't wait to get back from my trip to Italy to add even more events to the calendar!"

Life Is So Good! by Suzanne Sergi
Suzane says, "My daughter recently took a few snapshots of me, and thought I would use them today with the bright The Good Life collection. I used The Good Life Ribbon download, but did not scale down the original size. I love big, and bold embellishments on my pages! On the ribbon image, I cut around the large circle with the sentiment, Life is good. I added a bit of texture to it by running it through a dots embossing folder. Cut just a tad from the left hand side, so it could sit flush against the page. I also cut two of the banner ribbons, and tucked them underneath. Super fast to download, and perfect as is. However, with scissors, and embossing folders, you can turn it into something more special!"

I hope you keep coming back to the Fancy Pants Designs blog for more inspiration. We love sharing!!

Also, be sure to come back next week, we have yet to announce our Sketch Time November Challenge Winner. So, stay tuned!

LOVE....LOVE.....LOVE!

LOVELayout

I hope that all of you had a very nice Thanksgiving with your families, friends, acquaintances and such! We had a small Thanksgiving celebration this year, but it was filled with family, so no matter the size of the dinner table, it's just good to be surrounded by those you love ... and who love you back! So, that's what my next post is all about ... LOVE! It's a bit early for Valentine's Day, but I really wanted to share the layout (and kit set) with all of you using our new collection Love Note!

I am a pretty shy person, really, I am  :), and I don't often share a lot of my personal life, but I just LOVE so many things that I had to share this more personal layout today! You'll notice the pictures are not the best {they are from my iphone} ... a bit blurred, but they are some of my all time favorites and I just had to scrap them! That sweet little guy with me is my baby boy, Holden. When he was little we went through loads of worries about his health and had to take him in for tests when he was just a few months old. I was such a stressed out Mommy ... I didn't even really enjoy him being a baby. These pictures were taken on February 14th, 2011 (he was 1 1/2). He was all dressed up in his "I HEART Mommy" shirt, ready for Valentine's Day ... and, he also happened to have a test to be done for a heart murmur ... so, we headed to Primary Children's Medical Center to see the heart doctor on Valentine's day! The reason these pictures mean so much to me, is not that they are so cute (because they are, blurry and all), but because this was the LAST test we had to really go through to say that he was the HEALTHY and HAPPY baby boy we worried about so much! The LOVE of a mother is beyond description and I just LOVE this boy! So, this layout made me so happy to create! I hope you like it!

Give Thanks Décor Project

VickiChrisman_GiveThanksDecor

Here we are in November already, and Thanksgiving is here! Happy Thanksgiving! Today I thought I’d share with you a fun décor project you can whip up pretty quickly. I was inspired by some similar flowers I saw on Pinterest that I just had to try. Seems like I am always working on a square base, so this time we are going  …Round! Like I’ve said before, so many of the Fancy Pants Designs Lines can work for projects other than the their obvious “theme". I’m using the “Little Sport” line for this “Thanksgiving” themed project.

Fancy Pants Designs supplies:
Little Sport: Ball Game
Little Sport: Player
Little Sport: Basket Ball
Little Sport: Soccer
Little Sport: Football
Home for Christmas: Glittered Chipboard Alphas & More
Fancy Pants Designs buttons

Other Supplies:
Plastic Charger Plate
Acrylic paint
Tattered Angel’s mists
Circle punch(s)
Hot glue
Twigs
Photo
Brown ink

Instructions:
1. You’ll start with a charger plate like the one below. This one is plastic and was purchased a dollar discount store for $2. Since I painted mine I started by lightly sanding it and then whipped it clean. You certainly don’t have to paint it.
Vicki step 1

2. I painted my plate with a ivory acrylic paint, (available at almost all craft stores). Don’t worry about being really particular about your painting, because you will sand it a bit after it dries to give it a distressed look.
Vicki step 2

3. Once the paint is completely dry, sand the edges lightly and scuff it up a bit. (go for it ... you can’t go wrong)
Vicki step 3

4. If you want, you can add some more color to the plate base using mists, and by inking around the edges with brown ink.
Vicki step 4

5. Now you can set your plate aside while you work on creating your flowers. You can use whatever size/or sizes of circle punches you like. I used a 1 ¾” inch punch for the larger circles and a 1” for the smaller circles. How many circles you need to punch will depend on how closely you put them together when you create your flower, so just punch out about a dozen to get started and add from there.
Vicki step 5

6. I found using a hot glue gun worked best for assembling these flowers. Start by adding a button to the center of one of the punched circles. (I used the larger circle simply because I had a bigger area to adhere my other pieces too).
Vicki step 6

7. For the flower I’m showing here, I alternated plain brown circles with patterned circles to create a multi colored flower. Start with one of the larger circles and squeeze it together (kind of like a taco )  Without actually folding it. Add hot glue to the bottom edge and add it to the circle with the button.
Vicki step 7

8. Continue all the way around the base circle, using the button as your guide. Remember to alternate your colors if you want to achieve this look.
Vicki step 8

9. I used my smaller circle punch to add another element to the design, by adding them inside the opposite color or patterned like this. (below)
Vicki step 9

10. Now it’s time to add your flowers to the charger. Like I said, I found that hot glue worked well. I started by adding a few twigs I picked up outside, then my flowers, and a few leaves I cut out of the brown paper. Just for fun, I gave the entire thing a light mist of Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist. Once that is finished; add your letters and your photo. Now you have a fun piece to set out for the Holiday, or a great gift for a friend or family member.

Fancy This: Thanksgiving Headdresses

AmyPeterman_ThanksgivingHeaddresses

Good morning and happy Monday! For those of you who will be celebrating Thanksgiving, I wanted to share this fun little project perfect for the little ones sitting at the kids table this Thursday.

Fancy Pants Designs supplies:
Hopscotch: patterned papers
Hopscotch: Glittered Chipboard Alphas
Artist Edition: Filter Papers
Various ribbons and trims
Feather download

Other supplies:
hot glue gun
scissors
scallop punch
spray ink/mist
fabric pencil
die-cutting machine or kraft knife for handcutting
sewing machine

Instructions:
1.Download Feather art to use with a die-cutting machine or as a template for handcutting.
Amypeterman_feathers_FPD

2. Cut feathers from various Hopcotch patterned papers in varying sizes (for each headdress, I cut one feather at 7" and eight feathers at 6"). Mark with a fabric pencil, desired spacing of feathers onto a length of ribbon (I used a little over a yard).
HeaddressStep1

3. Stitch feathers onto ribbon.
HeaddressStep2

4. Layer another length of ribbon over feathers (feathers will now be sandwiched in between both lengths of ribbon) and stitch along top, bottom and sides, leaving ribbon free near last feather at each end (this will allow one ribbon to be used to tied in a bow, while the other will hang free).
HeaddressStep3

5. Stitch another trim on top for added decoration. I used ric-rack on one headdress and ball trim on the other.
HeaddressStep4a

6. Clip off feather tips.
HeaddressStep4

7.Create a flattened paper rosette.
Rosette

8. Layer paper rosette with filter paper (I sprayed mine with mist), scalloped paper circle and glittered chipboard alpha (as a monogram). Hot glue layers together and then hot glue to front of headdress.
HeaddressClose

Headdresses

9. To wear, tie at the back of head with ribbon.

10. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Sketch Time: November Challenge Inspiration!

Happy Thursday everyone! Our Pocket Chicks have got some inspiration for you today!! They have created these layouts based on our Sketch Time November Challenge sketch. So, if you haven't had a chance to play around with the sketch yet, here's some eye candy to get you inspired!

JessMutty_The Good Life
O & L by Jess Mutty
Jess says, "I love layers and this sketch was pretty simple so I ended up adding a lot more to my page.  The Good Life begs to be layered and played with! The basic design is still there, but I added several frames to the left of the photo to place a second photo and the title.
JessMutty_The Good Life detail2

JessMutty_The Good Life detail1
My banner fairly closely mimics the sketch. I also moved the small upper element to the left side to help balance the busyness of the lower right. This sketch gave me a lot of freedom to add my own unique touches!"

Greta Hammond_November sketch layout 1
Nine by Greta Hammond
Greta says, "Sketches are a great starting point. I intended to follow it rather closely but ended up switching the photos around to fit the page better.
Greta Hammond_November sketch layout 1a
I then also added a lot more paper layering to make the page more my own. For the banner, I used a variety of the banner pieces from the line to come up with my own version."

Blissful Blizzard Layout & Cards Kit

BBLayout

Blissful Blizzard... That is what we had this past weekend in Utah. At least it was kind of 'blissful' because I didn't have to go out in it too much ... I'm sure for others it may not have felt quite so 'blissful'! Either way you look at it, it was snowy and beautiful! Which got me in the mood to scrapbook using some of our latest collection named, what else? Blissful Blizzard! Most of you have seen the previews of this line ... and our team will be sharing layouts and projects from it soon, but since I was lucky enough to get a hold of the products right when they came in to our office, I scrapped the weekend away. {I should mention that my sweet husband and oldest son were gone for a baseball tournament, so I got more time than usual, when the other kids were tucked in to bed, to scrap all night!} Oh and some fun news for our blog followers and fans, this little blog post is going to be available to all stores as a kit! Yes! That's right, we will have kits to go with our new releases so that you can recreate EXACTLY (or not so exactly) what you see on our blog (only specially noted blog posts, of course :))! Help us spread this news by stopping in to your local store and telling them about this line and kit offering! We're so stoked about it and we know you will be, too! First, is a layout of my sweet Abbi in her new 'winter' hat. Technically speaking, it's not the warmest winter hat since it's made from recycled t-shirts, but it's cute nonetheless, so we're going with it! I've used Blissful Blizzard papers, stickers, corrugate paper, glitter paper and some small extra embellishments to spice up the page!

For the second part of the kit, we've created 4 different cards for different occasions, but you can easily change to suit your needs since there are like a bazillion alpha sticker options on our 12x12 Sticker Fundamentals sheet! Yay! Here are the cards!

Fancy This: Christmas Tags

ValerieSanchez_FancyPantsDesigns

Hi everybody!!! Christmas is in the air around our house! I know, Thanksgiving isn't even here yet ... but I don't know why, I'm just excited for the holidays this year! So, I've been busy making cards, tags and layouts! And yes, I will admit to listening to Christmas music in the background...  shhhhh...

Fancy Pants Designs supplies:
Home for Christmas: Patterened papers (Merry Tree, Pine, Nativity, Seasons, Cheer)
Home for Christmas: Banners
Home for Christmas: Stickers
Home for Christmas: chipboard frames pieces
Home for Christmas: Tape Stickers
Home for Christmas: stamps

Other supplies:
circle die
scallop punch
small snowflake punch
large snowflake punch
tree punch
bling!!
star brad
raffia

Instructions:
For this project I'm going to show you how to make some simple, and quick (did I say quick) tags! We'll start with the JOY one... (if you know my designs, it goes without saying I inked everything!!!)  I used the MERRY TREE paper and my large scallop circle punch to make one of the layers, and turned the stripes up and down (so it looks like wallpaper!)
20121106_124035
Then I used one of my circle dies and cut a larger cream circle using the  SEASONS paper. Using more of the SEASONS paper, I stamped the frame in brown and the JOY in red. Fussy cut this out, and glue so it looks like a large picture hanging on the wall!
20121106_124658

Next, punch your tree out of the green side of MERRY TREE. Embellish with bling, add a sticker star and a small raffia bow. Glue this down...  I fussy cut an ornament top from a small scrap square of MERRY TREE and tied a bit of raffia for the tie.
20121106_160919

One down, 2 to go!! Using the same circle die and scallop punch, I used CHEER and PINE for this one. I also punched the snowflake out of the PINE. I loved the green dot tape sticker, so I stuck that down, and trimmed the scalloped edges. If you don't want to trim, it would probably look good going all the way across the tag! Layer the snowflake and the large Dec. 25th chipboard and adhere to your tag.
20121106_133223
Add the bird so it looks like he's standing on the green tape sticker. Add bling and a small brown pearl for the bird's eye. Again, I fussy cut an ornament top, but tried making some scallops on it to be different from the last one. Tie your raffia and number two is done!!

The last design evolved from a friend of mine's idea to turn one of the banners upside down and make it a tree on a long-ish tag for a larger present! Great idea! I used the tiny chipboard banners and added JOY using the tiny alpha stickers. I used the SEASONS paper, and punched  3 small snowflakes. I added the tiny banners to them. Using the brown pattern sticker tape, I made a hanging banner of sorts for the JOY to rest on.
20121106_154005
Using a tiny bit more, I made a tree trunk. I added some red bling and a star brad for the tree topper! Using the same small snowflake punch, I punched one in the MERRY TREE paper... added the raffia tie, and all done!
20121106_160931

I hope you have enjoyed these and give them a try! A homemade tag is so wonderful, especially when you've made the gift as well! If you didn't want to use these as tags, they would also make great ornaments for your tree! Until the next time, happy scrappin'!

Layout Lift: Kim & Pamela

Kim Watson+Cool Snapshots+FP
Cool Snapshots by Kim Watson

Hello everyone! Today I am sharing a page I scrap lifted from another Pocket Chick, Pamela Young. I was drawn to her page because of the uber cool title treatment she did using one of the Just Words stencil cards from the Artist Edition collection. For my take on her page, I used not only the title idea but the overall page design as inspiration too.

PamelaY_Happy-Happy-Good-Life
Happy by Pamela Young

I used the fun, bright colored patterned papers from the Hopscotch collection for this page about my daughter.

Kim Watson+Cool Snapshots+cls#4+FP
I thought I'd take advantage of the super die-cut and use it as a mist template, as well as layering the elements as a the page title, like Pamela did.

Kim Watson+Cool Snapshots+cls#3+FP
Mist is a fabulous way to re-color the die-cuts with fun results!

Kim Watson+Cool Snapshots+cls#2+FP
I liked how the journaling sat beneath the title, so did the same. Instead of handwriting the journaling I made use of the 12x12 page of Sticker Fundamentals from the Hopscotch collection. The convenient printed words and array of mini alphas jump started my journaling, as well as making it into a colorful collage.

Kim Watson+Cool Snapshots+cls#1+FP
Thanks for your great ideas, Pamela! Remember, if this inspires you to try a similar technique using Fancy Pants Designs products; post your latest creations on our Facebook page, we'd love to see them!

Have a super day!

Sketch Time: November Challenge

NovSketch copy

Happy Wednesday! Today it is time to start up our November sketch ... we had a FABULOUS month in October with all of the fun cards (from sketches) that you created so we are thrilled to focus in on a layout this month! This is a super simple sketch that you can keep that way {simple} or add some fun embellishments to really spice up the look!

NovemberSketchLayoutLow

For my layout, I kind of changed the sketch up a bit by putting my banner at the bottom of the page and incorporating a bit more details around the photo! I used our Childish Things collection papers, stamps, stickers and embellishments for this design and I just love how it turned out! Feel free to make this sketch your own and we can't wait to see what you come up with this month!!!

*To take our November Sketch Challenge, create a layout/project based on the sketch in this post, using some of your Fancy Pants Designs stash, then post your entry to the Fancy Pants Designs Facebook page OR your personal blog OR online gallery (just make sure to share a link in a comment on this post). This challenge is open to US and International residents. Projects posted to our Facebook page prior to Nov. 7, 2012 do not qualify. Entries are due by midnight MST, Monday, November 26th, 2012. We will post the winner on Thursday, November 29th on our blog and Facebook, so be sure to check back then to see if you've won.

Fancy This: Attitude of Gratitude

PamelaY_Attitude-of-Gratitude-2011

For several years now, every November, I have been posting "Attitude of Gratitude" posts every day on Facebook. Basically I just post something I am thankful for each day. There are lots of people playing along. If you haven't started, it's not too late! ;) Well for the past three years I have also used my Attitude of Gratitude posts and made a layout with them. It's fun, and I love looking back at them. This time I decided to make a 2 page layout to fit it all in better. The Facebook posts are from last year. I used the wonderful Hopscotch collection. It is hands down one of my favorites.

Fancy Pants Designs supplies:
Hopscotch: Charming Patterned paper
Hopscotch: Tangerine Patterned paper
Hopscotch: Sidewalk Patterned paper
Hopscotch: Jump Rope Patterned paper
Hopscotch: Strolling Patterned paper
Hopscotch: Skipping Patterned paper
Hopscotch: Collage Patterned paper
Hopscotch: Grove Patterned paper
Hopscotch: Seamstress Patterned paper
Hopscotch: Butternut Patterned paper
Hopscotch: Puddle Patterned paper
Hopscotch: Mingled Buttons
Artist Edition: Number Stencil Cards
Artist Edition: Calendar Cards
Artist Edition: White Chipboard Alphas
Baby Mine: Chipboard Alphas

Other supplies:
orange floss
adhesive
die cut machine (leaves)

Instructions:
1. I printed off my Facebook posts. I actually did a screen print and essentially saved a photo of my computer screen for each of my posts and then opened them in Photoshop. But you could just copy and paste your posts into a document. Or you could even just print your full Facebook screen and cut the parts out you want.

2. I created a base for my layout.

I didn't have enough full sheets, so as you can see from one the picture, I had one sheet that already had a leaf cut out of it and also had to piece together one side of the blue polka dot papers. No big deal.  :)

3. I took a craft knife and cut out each of my posts, leaving a tail to make it look like a word bubble.  You can always use scissors or a trimmer and just cut it out normally. I've said this before, but don'w worry about being perfect! You can see that mine are not cut out perfectly at all.

4. I already had an idea in my head oh how I wanted my layout to turn out, so I arranged my Facebook posts and adhered them down.

5. I cut strips of patterned paper and laid adhered them to my layout. I made sure to extend them across each page of my layout because I love the way that looks.

6. Then I added my photo, my title, some leaves and some buttons. For my title I cut down slightly the negative parts of the numbers and adhered them first. Then I took the numbers and put them on top, but popped them up. I really like the cool look it gives the title.
