Fancy This: Practice Gentleness Canvas

PY_Practice-Gentleness-Canvas

Hi everyone! Today I wanted to share a home decor/canvas project that I made with you all.  I used the fun Time For Spring collection for my project. And really this collection is great for anytime ... not just spring, so don't let the name fool you.  :)

Fancy Pants Designs Supplies:
Time For Spring: Flower Patch patterned paper
Time For Spring: Tip Me Over patterned paper
Time For Spring: Gingham Dress patterned paper
Time For Spring: Short & Stout patterned paper
Time For Spring: Ruffles patterned paper
Time For Spring: Pour Me Out patterned paper
Time For Spring: Sweet'ner patterned paper
Time For Spring: Die Cuts
Time For Spring: Alpha Stickers
Beach Babe: Chipboard Alphas

Other Supplies:
White Paint
Embroidery Floss

I started with 6 pieces of paper, cut into almost squares (one side is slightly longer than the other simply because of the size of my canvas). The pieces do not fit perfectly but that is ok because I know I am going to cover the edges with paint. I adhered the papers to my canvas.
PY_Practice-Gentleness-Canvas-step-1

I took white paint and covered the edges and brushed over the papers, over the middle of the canvas. Ideally, I wanted some of the patterns to show through a little.
PY_Practice-Gentleness-Canvas-step-2

I hand-cut three large leaf shapes from 3 different patterned papers. I arranged those and a strip of green paper to make a flower. I also added the words "practice gentleness" to my canvas, overlapping the stem on my flower.
PY_Practice-Gentleness-Canvas-step-3

For a final me step, I added a bit of stitching around the papers in my flower.
PY_Practice-Gentleness-Canvas-step-4

Well there you have it, a simple but fun canvas to hang on your walls. Thanks for stopping by the blog today! Have you created a home decor project using Fancy Pants Designs papers? We'd love to see it! Leave a link here or upload your project to our Facebook page!

Pocket Chick Spotlight: Amy Peterman + Giveaway!

MyRunBikeLife

Hi everyone! Amy here again! It's my turn for the Pocket Chick Spotlight and I am so excited to share a little bit about myself with you today! Before I answer the questionaire, I wanted to share this layout with you. When I'm not scrapbooking, you can most likely find me running or biking. It's become one of my passions and something I am grateful to have in my life. Like scrapbooking, running and biking is therapy for me and I wanted to document where I am right now in my Run Bike Life with photos taken by my eight-year-old and journaling of my goals met and future goals. I used papers and chipboard from The Good Life collection (my current Fancy Pants Designs fave!), along with papers from the Artist Edition Memo Notebook (I love that Memo Notebook and use it all the time!).

MyRunBikeLifeDetail1

Q: What is your favorite technique?
A: Currently, I love using my die-cutting machine. I love using the negative and positive shapes from the die-cut papers and layering them with foam adhesive.

MyRunBikeLifeDetail2

Q: How long have you been scrapbooking?
A: It's seems like forever. I have some of those really old newsprint scrapbooks (cringe!) from back in middle school. If it was a momento of any kind and could be flattened to fit in a scrapbook, I kept it!

Q: What are some goals you have for yourself, scrap-related or personal?
A: Well, you've probably read my journaling above already ... a personal goal of mine ... I want to run a marathon. It will have to be when both of my kids are in school all day, because the training is so time consuming. So, I'm thinking ... a marathon before I turn 40. :-) And no, I'm not telling you how far away that is! :-)

Q: If someone was to walk into your scrap room/area right now, what would they find?
A: A clean room! I'm serious!! It doesn't happen very often, but right this very moment, it is clean. Maybe I should get a picture! :-)

Q: What do you listen to or watch while scrapbooking?
A: A mix on my iPod. Toby Mac, old 80s tunes, Genesis, Chris Tomlin, Owl City, Phil Collins, The Beatles—to name a few.

Q: What time of day do you usually scrapbook and where?
A: During the day, in between dropping off and picking up kids from school or during "quiet time".

Q: What are some other hobbies you enjoy?
A: Knitting! I'm currently working on a cute short-sleeved, cabled hoodie. Hoping to get it done in time for fall.

Thanks for stopping by today! I loved sharing with you...

Oh wait! I promised you another giveaway, didn't I? All of us Fancy Pants Designs are so geeked about reaching 12K "likes" on our Facebook Page, that we just need to giveaway a little more. So, here's a little trivia question about me...

What type of dogs does my family own?

Leave a comment on this post and I'll choose one winner randomly from all correct answers, to win a Fancy Pants Designs collection pack and a 1-yr subscription to Scrapbook & Cards Today!

You have until Sunday, July 29, 2012, at midnight (12:00 am MDT), to enter. Winners will be drawn from all correct answers by a random number generator and posted here on our blog on Monday, July 30, 2012. Sorry, this giveaway is open to US and Canada residents only.

Come back again tomorrow for one more chance to win!!

Fancy This: 100% Sweet Layout

Larger layout
I was so excited when I saw these gorgeous papers! They lend themselves so well to so many life events!!  One of my favorite things in this line are the Die Cut Sheets!!  Using these elements, you can put together layouts, cards or other projects so quickly!!  I need several of each!

Fancy Pants Designs Supplies:
Country Boutique: Patterned Papers (Barn Door, Loved, Charlotte)
Country Boutique: Die Cut Sheets (Banner & Element)
Country Boutique: Alpha Stickers
Fancy Pants Designs Kraft Corrugate Paper

Other Supplies:
Ultra Thick Embossing Powder & Heat Embossing Gun
Versamark Watermark pad
Water mister bottle
Brown Ink
Adhesive Runner & Dimensional Foam Adhesives
Paper Piercer, Needle & White string
1/16” Hole Punch

Instructions:
1. I used the Barn Door paper as my base. Punch out 5 banners in various sizes from the Banner Die Cut sheet. Ink edges with brown ink and arrange in the upper left corner of your layout, adjusting heights.  Trim flush with the top edge. If you can, save a trimmed piece from the top of one of the large banners for step #3. Using your paper piercer, poke holes across the top of your banners, about ¼” from the top edge and ¼” apart. Use your needle & string to hand stitch across the top. Leaving small tails of string at the ends.
Me&You close up stitching

2. Cut a 1” x 12” strip of Charlotte paper (with lines going vertically) to use as your ruffle under the 5 x 7” photo. Mist the strip lightly with water—or wet with your fingertips—this will help you ruffle the paper! Proceed to “gather” your paper strip along the wet edge, just as you would if making a fabric ruffle. Once dry (it will dry quickly), ink ruffled edge and adhere to the bottom back of your photo with an adhesive runner. Use dimensional foam adhesives on the back of your photo to adhere to upper right portion of layout. This helps keep your photo level as the ruffle will add some dimension to the bottom edge.
Me&You close up paper ruffle

3.Punch out the brown & white chevron tabbed tag element, and the “100% sweet” element from your Die Cut Sheet. Ink edges. Cut a small banner from one of your larger banners, approximately ¾”x 2” and ink with brown ink. (See step #1 above). Add “Love” stickers and adhere over the tab of the element.  Add a 2”x3” photo to the mat. Pierce holes and stitch a couple of cross-stitches in the upper right corner, overlapping the photo.
Me&You close up

4.Tear a piece of Kraft Corrugate paper, lines going vertically, approximately 3” x 2 ¾”.Ink edges and adhere photo. Make a couple of stitches with the string to the lower left of the photo and adhere to layout. Add the tabbed photo mat with dimensional foam adhesives, overlapping the first photo. Pierce holes in each scallop of the “100% Sweet” element and add at the bottom.

5. To make our vintage heart buttons, cut out 3 heart shapes from the Loved paper, and ink edge. Punch two holes in the center of each with a 1/16” hole punch.

6. Cover each heart with Versamark, and cover with ultra-thick embossing powder and heat emboss.  Repeat this process a second time for two clear layers. When completely cooled, bend hearts in different directions to crack the clear layers. Add ink to the cracks to give them that vintage look. Tie string through each button.Me&You close up2

7. Tear a piece of Kraft Corrugate –lines going horizontally—approx.  5”x 1 ½”, ink edges. Adhere your buttons to the Kraft Corrugate piece.

8. From your Die Cut Sheet, punch out the “Me & You” ticket, ink edges and adhere just above hearts.

Making your own buttons and other embellishments is a fun and easy thing to do to get that perfectly matched item for your layouts and projects!! Try adding a pop of different colors when you work with these papers!

Layout Lift: Jess & Piradee

Welcome to the very first Layout Lift—a new regular post we'll be doing here on the blog! Today I am sharing a page I scraplifted from another Pocket Chick. Piradee Talvanna's layout from her "getting to know you" interview really struck me as simple but so very fun. I loved the dimensional pennants and the bright colors of Summer Soul. SO fresh!

Piradee's page

My layout is a pretty close lift, design wise. I used Time for Spring and some neutrals from Country Boutique and created a more masculine page.

Jess Mutty Live Love Be Happy1

I chose to stitch around each of my flags and keep them flat. I exchanged the filter paper flower for a more masculine accordion circle and switched up the title placement a bit. But ... there is no mistaking that this is a scraplift! My black and white photo looked great with the cool greys from Country Boutique and I love how the colors from Time for Spring pop.

Jess Mutty Live Love Be Happy2

Jess Mutty Live Love Be Happy3

Jess Mutty Live Love Be Happy4

I used bits and pieces of chipboard from other lines as well. So many of the recent Fancy Pants Designs collections can be mixed and matched to get exactly the look you need.

Thanks to Piradee for the inspiration here. Like sketches, lifts can really get your mojo flowing. The end result can be very close to the original or look absolutely nothing like it by the time you are done, but it is a jumping off point either way.

Thanks for taking a look today!

Pocket Chick Spotlight: Betsy Veldman

Life-Now

Hi Fancy Pants Designs fans! I am Betsy Veldman and I'm so pleased to be joining you here today. I don't know about you, but I've been loving all of the new product reveals this past week! I guess it's my turn to be in the Pocket Chick Spotlight. I've been designing for Fancy Pants Designs since the beginning of this year and have been loving it. Fancy Pants Designs products have had a place in my craft room for years. In fact, I have probably owned at least bits and pieces of almost every collection they've ever released!  Besides working with Fancy Pants Designs, I am a Go-to Gal for Paper Crafts Magazine and a designer for Papertrey Ink, an online stamp retailer. Outside of my paper life, I am a wife of 14 years, and a mother to three busy kiddos, my youngest of which is looking forward to starting Kindergarten this fall! Quiet time ... whatever will I do with it?  Oh yeah ... make stuff!  :-)

Q: What is your favorite Fancy Pants product?
A:  I'm thinking everything from the new Hopscotch line is my new favorite.  :-)

Q:  What is your favorite technique?
A:  Stamping. Hands down. You can get so creative and get so many different looks from a single stamp set.

Q:  How long have you been scrapbooking?
A:  I started scrapbooking shortly after my oldest child was born, so about 12 years ago. Lately though, my focus has been card making and stamping. Working with Fancy Pants Designs has renewed my love for scrapbooking though, and I am so thankful for that! I have so many photos that need to be put into albums to be enjoyed.

Life-Now-dtl1

LIfe-Now-dtl2

Q:  Where do you find inspiration?
A:  Lately it's Pinterest. If I'm stuck, I do a search for something on Pinterest and 9 times out of 10 something will inspire me and I'll literally jump out of my chair to get to work!  :-)

Q: If someone was to walk into your scrap room/area right now, what would they find?
A:  Hmm ... 3 kids, a dog, a husband, stacks of stamps and papers that need to be put away, my latest pages and cards, a stack of clothes that need to be mended (making pretty paper things is way more fun), and my daughter's latest sewing project. Let's just say the craft room is typically the busiest room in the house. But it's more fun that way.  :-)

Fancy This: Button Cup

Fp button cup

Hello Everyone! Today I'm going to share how to make this little gift cup. I made mine a general "Oh.. Happy Day" cup to give to a friend. You could easily make it for a Birthday, or a number of other occasions, just by changing the greeting.

Fancy Pants Designs supplies:
Hopscotch: Patterned Papers
Hopscotch: Mingled buttons
Fancy Pants Designs Buttons
Fancy Pants Designs Ribbon and Trim

Other Supplies:
cup
circle punches
wire (I used soft galvanized #19)
wire cutter (needle nose work the best)
styrofoam
bbq skewers
moss
hot glue gun

Instructions:
First you need a cup. Any cup. I find cups at flea markets, and thrift stores all the time. If your cup has a saucer, that's great, but if it doesn't, that's okay too. I created my own saucer look with shapes cut from my Fancy Pants Designs papers. Start by cutting a piece of styrofoam to fit inside your cup, and hot glue it to the bottom and sides of the cup to hold it in place.
Fp button cup 1

Once you have your styrofoam in place, add some moss to the the top to hide the styrofoam.
Fp button cup 2

Now that your cup is ready, it's time to make the button flowers to add to it. Layout all your buttons and get ready to pick the colors and sizes you want to put together. (The fun part:)
Fp button cup 3

For each flower you will want to cut a piece of wire approximately 6 inches long. Although you probably won't want your flowers that high out of your cup,  you will want that length so that you have enough wire to wrap around in the back of the button. This is where you can get creative, and choose what buttons (regular or chipboard), and punched circles from your  papers, that you want to use together to create your layered button flowers. If you are using multiple buttons you will want to line up the holes so that the wire will go thru them all. If you are wanting to add punched paper circles, using a needle to create holes for the wire to go thru works well. Using your wire cutter to bend your wire,  run the wire thru at least two of the button holes in your button.
Fp button cup 4

You will want your wire to meet in the back of the button.
Fp button cup 5

Use your wire cutter or a needle nose pliers to twist the wire in the back of your button to hold it in place. (using your needle nose pliers will help you be able to twist the wire tight. The tighter the better, to hold your button upright and not be floppy.)  If you need to, just add a bit of hot glue). Don't worry to much about the back of your button being really tidy, you really wont see it:)  I suggest adding your button flowers to your cup as you finish them, so you can arrange them and see how many you will want to add, and what height you would like each one.
Fp button cup 6

Once you have your cup of button flowers finished, cut two small pennant shapes from your patterned papers to add to these skewers to hold your greeting or message. I cut a long thin strip of one of my papers and wrapped it around  the skewers. (Hot gluing the paper strip to the skewer only at the top and the bottom will hold it in place fine).
Fp button cup 8

If your cup has a saucer, and you want to attach it to the cup, E6000 will work well to hold it in place.   If you don't have a saucer, you can easily get that look by cutting round decorative shapes from your papers with a die cutting machine, and adhering them to the bottom of the cup like I did.
Fp button cup 9

Finish off with some Fancy Pants Designs trim around the cup and a bit of ribbon tied on the handle.
Fp button cup 10

Whether it's a friend's birthday, or you know someone who could just use a little pick me up, this should make them SMILE!

Thanks for stopping by!

Product Spotlight: Country Boutique

1610CountryBoutiqueKitCoverFLAT

Hi everyone, it's Valerie! Back from North Dakota fetching grandkids!! Boy, I wish they lived closer... it sure is hard to drive up there every time I need pictures to scrapbook!!! You can only imagine how many pictures I've taken in the last month with them!

Fancy pants 015

Anyhoo ... on to these gorgeous papers that are this week's Product Spotlight—Country Boutique! Have you seen them? I'm talking stunning, and there is no end to the possibilities with these! A good friend of mine, Leslie, gave me the idea of turning the long banners into a pen holder, or even a vase, and it went from there!

Fancy pants 005

I made that first, and used chipboard I traced from the banners to make it stronger.  A few deckle cut strips and some ribbon finished it off.  But I knew the pens would fall through, so I stuck a trimmed down paper towel tube inside and stuffed a little tissue inside so the pens would sit on top and look pretty!  I even glued a little cupcake liner to the bottom so the tissue wouldn't fall out!

Fancy pants 017

I set to making the pens... covering them in paper and glue dotting (with some BIG glue dots) them to the rosettes. Everyone likes a fancy pen, so I wanted TWO!  Well, one is simple, with the button and ribbon bow, and the other one got a little more detailed!  I made a lot of little flowers with my flower punch and foam pad! Can you say F-U-N! I layered them all up and stuck them on the other pens rosette.

Fancy pants 008

Vase/pen holder all done ... the end of it? Nope ... decided I needed more things to play with so it was a quick trip to the local craft store, grabbed a little dollar spiral bound journal, and a dollar clipboard, perfect companions to my pen holder. (of course they aren't the only things that found their way into my shopping cart.. )

Fancy pants 022

Back home now, I set to work adding papers and embellies to my craft store prizes. After covering the journal with paper, I found some black pom pom border and thought, "Wow, that would look awesome stuck in between all the little spirals.."  Worth the effort of stringing it through, don't you think!  I wanted to continue the rosette theme, so I made a really big one for the cover, and added some of the smaller banners to make a giant ribbon.

Fancy pants 014

On to the clipboard, made it simple ... people keep telling me "less is more"... I usually don't listen, but this time it worked. Covered it with paper, glue dotted a flower on the lever, but hmmmm ... they all lacked something to tie them together. AHA! I remembered some brown gingham ribbon from an older Fancy Pants Designs line, and voila! Ribbons everywhere now! Tied one on the pen holder, tied some on the journal, and tied one around the clipboard!  Add a picture of my grandson, Beckett and I, and all done!

I hope you have enjoyed these projects! Have a great day and happy scrappin'!

Fancy This: Home Sweet Home

Piradee - FP Home Sweet Home4

Hi Everyone, I've got a fun and simple home decor project to share with you guys today - a little something I created using the gorgeous Time For Spring collection, for my "somewhat-new" apartment (although we moved in about 2.5 months ago, I just finished unpacking my last box yesterday. YES finally!!!)

Fancy Pants Designs Supplies:
Time For Spring: Spring Floral Pattern Paper
Time For Spring: Tip Me Over Pattern Paper
Time For Spring: Honeycomb Pattern Paper
Time For Spring: Alpha Stickers
Time For Spring: Die Cuts
Childish Things: Trims
Assorted Buttons

Other Supplies:
Cardstock (brown)
Chipboard
Chipboard Alphabets
Mist (to be used on the alphabets)
White Paint

Instructions:
1. Once you have gathered all the supplies that you might need, then depending on the size of chipboard that you have, you'll need to cut them into 4 rectangular cards (mine are 4"x6"); that will be used as the backing for each of the cards.
Piradee - FP Home Sweet Home1

2. Then in putting together the cards, I first started by adhering a dark brown cardstock onto one of the chipboard sides, in order to create that outline look when I later adhere the red grid pattern paper. Then cutting out various hexagon designs and flowers from the other two pattern papers (along with tons of foam dots), I layered the elements onto the cards leaving space in the middle for the alphabets/letters.
Piradee - FP Home Sweet Home2

3. Next using the widest ribbon from the childish things trim set, I adhere the ribbon onto the backside of the cards leaving a bit of space between each of cards. Do make sure that you use super duper glue/adhesive and that the trim is adhere fully to the cards (this will make it more sturdy when you display the cards).
Piradee - FP Home Sweet Home3

4. Then after selecting the chipboard letters that I need and with a coat of blue mist, I adhered the letters onto the cards using foam dots (to add more dimension to the project).
Piradee - FP Home Sweet Home5

5. And to create that shabby chic feel, I lightly brushed white paint over some the elements and also certain areas of the pattern paper. I used a dry paint brush, so that you would get a more streaky look and feel.
Piradee - FP Home Sweet Home6

6. Finally, I added some buttons here and there and used the Time For Spring alphabet stickers to completed my title for this little Home Sweet Home decor piece.
Piradee - FP Home Sweet Home7

A big thanks for stopping by and hope your week is off to a great {creative}start!

Guest Designer: Vicki Boutin

Expressing myself creatively is something I have always been compelled to do. I like to live in a world of full of color and pattern and I enjoy creating art that encompasses those things. Whether it be paper crafting, photography or mixed media art, I like to get my hands in it and have fun doing it!! This was an exciting year for me with the release of my first book Creative Foundations. You can currently find my work in Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine or come and visit me at one of the workshops I teach!

I am so happy to be guest designing for Fancy Pants this month! I have been a lover and collector of Fancy Pants Designs product for many years and I couldn’t wait to dig in and create a few projects.

VB_Life-at-the-Beach_Summer

In the Life at the Beach layout, I used the Summer Soul line and some color blocking. This line is so “HOT” with the pinks and orange and it worked well with these photos of my niece at the beach!

VB_Life-at-the-Beach-close-

Color blocking or in this case using a grid pattern, allows for fun product layering.

VB_My-Lil-Girl_Childish

The Childish Things line is so fun and whimsical!  I like the play on the primary color palette in this line and the little girl and little boy elements.

VB_My-Lil-Girl-close-up.1

VB_My-Lil-Girl-close-up

I like to stretch my uses of pattern paper and opted to punch a bunch of circles and layer them on this page. I also added this thick striped ribbon with a few loops in buttons.

VB_Happy-Go-Lucky

For this final layout I mixed product from Time For Spring and Country Boutique.  I like to mix monochromatic and tone on tone patterns on a project and then tie them together with a stripe.

VB_Happy-Go-Lucky-close-up

VB_Happy-go-Lucky-close-up-

Here I used star punchs instead of circles and layered some punchouts and an arrow from the Wave Searcher line.

VB_Summertime-Party_Wavesea

I finished up my projects with a quick card using the Wave Searcher line. Love the tiki elements in this line!!!

Thanks so much to the gang at Fancy Pants Designs for letting me stop by! I can’t wait to see what you have in store for your next release!!!

Please stop by and visit me at my blog.

Childish Things: Chipboard Banners
Childish Things: Trim (wide striped ribbon & green lace trim)
Childish Things: Filter Enbellishments (star)
Artist's Edition: Chipboard Alphas (black)

Other supplies:
Green buttons
White cardstock
Vellum/Tracing paper
Cutting machine
Glue pen
Stapler
Foam adhesive squares
Pick-Me-Up from Silhouette USA

I have put together the following layout, including step-outs for you to follow along, showing you how subway can art can create a great look on any scrapbook page.

1. Cut out your subway art.
Kim Watson+4th July+Step#1

2. Using your pick-me-up tool transfer your die cut subway art to a piece of vellum, adhering the pieces down as you go along. NOTE: If you place your vellum sheet over a grid or cutting mat, you'll find it easier to stick it straight.
Kim Watson+4th July+Step#2

3. Attach your completed subway art to a piece of star patterned paper.
Kim Watson+4th July+Step#3

4. Cut another '4th July' title (I used the font Franklin Gothic Demi Condensed) in white cardstock and raise it off the base art for some dimensional height.
Kim Watson+4th July+Step#4

5. Adhere your other pieces of patterned pieces onto the layout like I did.
Kim Watson+4th July+Step#5

6. Add your chipboard banner pieces below yellow paper piece & attach photographs.
Kim Watson+4th July+Step#6

7. Follow above step-outs & make a cute pinwheel rosette.
Kim watson+Pinwheel rosette

8. Attach your pinwheel & 'celebrate' title to the page.
Kim Watson+4th July+Step#7

9. Lastly add your journaling, stitching, extra chipboard accents & buttons for a little 'twinkle' and you are all done.

I am so glad you stopped by. If you download & use the subway art, remember to upload your project to the Fancy Pants Designs Facebook page for us all to admire.

Have a fabulous day tomorrow! Come back again later today ... we'll announce our Little Sport winners!
