More designs by Guest Designer, Vicky Alberto

Guest Designer Vicky Alberto back today to share a few more projects.

I adored the Breathless Collection by Marah Johnson when it was released but never had the chance to work with it so when Cheryl asked what papers I wanted to play with at jumped at the chance to get my hands on these before they are no longer available.
This "bitten" layout features a postcard advertisement of a Tribal Bellydance Fusion troop from a local studio I dance at (FYI the most amazing exercise for post baby bellies!). I took the gate diecut and chopped it to frame the distressed papers. I've always done some sort of dance classes most of my life and say that I've been bitten with the urge to explore my creativity though various mediums. I adore the richness of these papers. I used a large black flower from the Funtoolas Etsy shop and created my own red ones with velvet hydrangeas and Prima bling centres.

For my second project with the Breathless collection, I made a bonbon gift box using a simple template I found at Mirkwood designs

That's it for today but I will be back on Friday to share more new designs I made with the New IOD Devotion collection. Thanks for stopping by to take a peek at my work today!

Cards by Alice

Hello, it's Alice back to share more cards with you.  Today I would like to show you a really great line called Splish Splash. This is a great line to use for water sports, pool time, beach days or anything summer related.  The line also comes with die cut shapes and matching stickers!

Here's a sample of what I made using the Splish Splash Die Cut Shapes.

Don't you just love the die cut shapes?  The shapes are a perfect addition to the great paper lines in this collection and will enhance and tell your story when creating your layouts or cards.

Studio Basics 101, Splish Splash

Signature Collection

Cutables Collection

Next we have another line from Art Warehouse, called Inspired Traveler.  Perfect to use for those European vactions and vintage projects that need that old feel.  As a card maker I got great usage from being able to create my own emblishments by cutting out the detail images form the paper.  Cool, right?

Here's a few exmaples of using the paper to create your own emlishment.

Safe Travels
I used a circle punch to cut out some simple shapes form the paper and pop dot it to give it some dimension.

Here's a detail shot of what I did.

Here's another idea using Inspired Traveler and using the paper itself as an emlishment to add to your card.

I cut the arrows out of the design from the paper and added it to my card.  I also used die cut shapes from Marah Jonhson's Monarch Collection.  Isn't this cool?

Art Warehouse

Marah Johnson, Monarch Collection

Signature Collection

For my final card today I used Marah Johnson's Monarch collection and the Dots and Stripes collection.   Marah's wooden frames are pefect for framing pictures on layouts and cards.  I used the frame as a mat for my back ground on this card.  Neat, right?

I layered the different colors of brown from the Dots and Stripes Cool collection to give this card a softer touch.  What do you think?

The Monarch collection also has these chipboard sentiments that I just love!  Pefect when you need a quick little phrase and works really well when you piece them together in a sentence.

Signature Collection

That's all for today, but check back soon there's always something new and creative.  Have a great day!

Guest Designer Vicky Alberto

Hi, my name is Vicky Alberto (aka Simply Paper on in the online world) and I live in Alberta, Canada. Three years ago after having my daughter, I decided not to return to a corporate marketing job so I could raise my three young children. After 10 years in the marketing industry, scrapbooking was a natural extension of my work world to fill a creative void and I was instantly hooked. My style is best described as "a little shabby and a lot of chic". I adore adding layers, texture and flowers to my projects - handmade paper flowers are my passion (doilies and lace are my other weaknesses). I have "met" the most amazing ladies from all over the world through various online scrapbook communities and I now embrace (the thing I used to avoid) the internet to share and gain creative inspiration. My blog address Simply Paper and Creativity  is  where I chat about my work, the companies I design for, and share my tutorials. I also have an Etsy shop where I am proud to be one of the few to retail gorgeous chipboard from The Dusty Attic . I am so very thrilled to guest design for Creative Imaginations and was so excited when I was asked what paper lines that I would like to work with. It was tough to only choose a few since there has NEVER been an IOD line that I didn't like and I really adore Marah Johnson's stunning collections too.

Today I am sharing a brand new layout I created with the IOD Wild Spirit line. These gorgeous papers are featured in the Scrap That! August kit  - just a few kits left so grab one soon before it sells out! I will also be teaching this layout,  in Calgary, Alberta at Scrapbooker's Paradise on September 17th. The title is a Dusty Attic chipboard piece from my Etsy shop.

The picture is of my very supportive hubby who actually "gets" why I scrapbook since he is in a creative field himself. I was inspired by a Dusty Attic sketch for this layout. The warm and cool color combination of this paper collection is sunning don't you think?

Here is a fun and quick little kirigami gift box I made with once single sheet of IOD Beach Cottage paper, including the handmade flower. For box and flower tutorials, please see quick link on the right side of my blog Simply Paper and Creativity.

Lastly, instead of including a bio picture for this feature, I leave you today with 2 of my past Scrap That! projects from 2010, featuring myself in the pictures (using the Beloved and Night Divine collections). LOVED these gorgeous papers!

That's it for today but I will be back on Wednesday and Friday to share more new designs I made with CI papers. Thanks for stopping by to take a peek at my work today!

Even More Scraps of Darkness Designer Inspiration!

Cheryl Casas
- Design Team

This amazing layout created by Cheryl was based on a sketch featuring guest designer Suepup (Charlotte) at Creativelyyourssketches.blogspot. A ruffled effect ws created around the edges and marker was used to create the mock stitching. Black cardstock was used to ground the layout and seperate the similiar pink colors of the papers.

The filter circles were inked and flocked. The Marrakesh diecuts were used to embellish the page along with the coin ribbon that was included in the Scraps of Darkness kit. The flourishes were created from wire and bent to the curved shape and added as an accent to the flowers.

More Inspiraton from Scraps of Darkness Designers

Renea Harrison- Design Team

This amazing altered work of art was created by Renea for the "Skeletons in the Closet" challege over at Scraps of Darkness. The background is canvas, coated with a gel medium and then painted. The chipboard brackets enclosing the canvas were also painted then coated with rock candy and glam. Sakura papers were used on this piece and the tree was fussy cut and added. Tiles were laid under the journal and snow tex was used to adhere them. The gate is a chipboard piece and contaings the journaling. The paper was constructed so the gates would open out to reveal the print.

Supplies: Creative Imaginations Sakura Papers, Canvas, Dusty Attic Bracket Frame and Gate, Prima vines & roses, Martha Stewart Punch, Gel Medium, Acrylic Paint, Digital Goth Image, Tattered Angels Glam, Tim Holtz Fragments

Celina Matthews- Scraps of Darkness Mistress of Mayhem

Celina selected a Geisha Image found on Photobucket to create her layout around. Scraps of Darkness encourages "alternative" techniques and true to form Celina altered the look of the gorgeous Pink Peony Sakura paper by using a Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Scarlet. She misted the paper to achieve the red tone to match the kimono in her photo! Embossing was done on the strip of paper cut to resemble the "Obi" in the photo. The flowers and leaves were cut on a Cricut.

Supplies: Creative Imaginations Sakura Paper, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, Lindys Gold Embossing Powder, Petaloo Flowers, Cricut, Prima trinkets and rub ons, stickles, alcohol ink

More talent from the Scraps of Darkness Designers!

Nancy Hanttula- Design Team

Nancy's beautiful page titled "Be the Change" is true art work featuring the Sakura Collection.

The rolling hills on this piece were created by hand tearing the "Serenity and Fan Dance" papers. The background papers were finger painted and stamped. A great deal of fussy cutting was involved here. The tree, lanterns, and grass accents were cut from the Bonsai, Blossom and Butterflies and Serenity papers. The leaves were created using a small punch.

Supplies: Creative Imaginations Sakura Papers, Plaid acrylic paint, Staz on & Color Box Chalk Ink, Marvy Uchida leaf punch, Stamps- Prima, Misc- rub ons

Karen Zueger- Design Team

This beautiful page created by Karen features a stenciled cardstock background layered with the Marrakesh papers and dicuts. Martha Stewart punch around the page was used on one of the pattern papers for a softly textured effect. A canvas flower was misted with a stencil for that beautiful pattern. The coin ribbon was a special touch included in the Scraps of Darkness kit.

Supplies: Creative Imaginations Marrakesh Collection paper and diecuts, Creative Imaginations Twinkling H20's, Prima Mistable Canvas, Mask, Flower Center Embellishment, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, Distress Ink, Martha Stewart Punch

Introducing Designer, Lisa Novogrodski!

Me-hat    My name is Lisa Novogrodski and I joined the Scraps of Darkness Design Team in January 2011. I ventured into the world of scrapbooking several years ago when a friend introduced me to a little pattern paper, cardstock and a tape runner. Little did she know how much of my life this craft would rule! As my love for paper, scissors and glue grew so did my "Scrap Space!" I am slowly but surely edging my family out of the basement as my life, ahem, hobby encroaches on the "family" areas! They aren't complaining though... at least not yet.

As a designer for Scraps of Darkness I have been privileged to work with two of Creative Imaginations lines. Artsy, whimsical and deliciously colorful, Christine Adolph is one of my favorite designers.  I enjoyed every moment of creating with her Sakura and Marrakesh Collections.

I would like to share two of my layouts with you today featuring these collections offered in our May "Now and Zen" kit and our July "Marrakesh Express" kit.

I did some machine stitching around the edges of the two main papers. I used a border punch to doubled back to back to get the edging across the bottom. The leaves and butterflies were stamped. The gate was cut on my Silhouette SD. The background paper was misted to achieve that color. The flowers and leaves were clustered along with small umbrellas cut to resemble flowers.

Supplies: Christine Adolph "Sakura" Paper, Cardstock, Martha Stewart Punch, Silhouette SD, flowers, Heartfelt Creations stamps, Ink, Starburst Mist

On this layout I fussy cut the pattern paper, layered and punched the edges of various papers from this collection to follow the July sketch created by Charlotte Jenkins, the Scraps of Darkness sketch artist. Some of the flowers were created by fussy cutting the paper out of the paper and adding beads to the center. The berry vines and large leaves were cut on my Silhouette SD. I used alot of distress ink on the paper edges.

Supplies: Creative Imaginations Christine Adolph "Marrakesh" pattern papers, CI- Chipboard Letters, Distress Ink, Martha Stewart punches, Silhouette SD. Flowers, Misc- ribbon.

Stay tuned for more beautiful creations from other members of our design team!

Introducing Melinda Kelly from Scraps of Darkness

My name is Melinda Kelly. I am the owner of Scraps of Darkness Kit Club along with the most wonderful man in the world, my husband Brian.  We have two beautiful grown daughters and a sweet grandson who will be turning 1 in a few weeks. I started scrapping in 2007, and what a wonderful journey it has taken me on!

As my style developed, I found that it wasn't always easy to find the items I wanted.  I really enjoy doing what I call "Alternative" layouts, meaning they don't necessarily fit in with what seems to be the norm.  There are a substantial number of established kit clubs that offer products leaning toward the "cute, feminine or child centered" style of scrapping. I had difficulty finding clubs that catered to a more  "edgy, alternative, distinctively different" style that most would consider "scrap art." From this Scraps of Darkness was born in the summer of 2010.

Scraps of Darkness kits are designed for artists who wish to take scrapbooking to another level. We strive to include the latest and greatest items on the market that will enable you to create not "just a layout", but a piece of art.  And don't let our name fool you - while we regularly include items for those who like to create "darker"  layouts, we also want to inspire you to venture into what we consider Alternative Scrapbooking, such as Steampunk, Grunge, and Technique based layouts and projects.

Each month, we offer a Main Kit and several Add On Kits that coordinate with the Main Kit.  We currently offer 5 different Add On kits, and will soon increasing that to 6.  Our standard  Add Ons include Patterned Paper, Cardstock and an additional embellishment add on we call “Romance.”  We recently added the Flora & Fauna Add On which is comprised of premium flowers and a "critter" - butterflies, dragonflies, birds, etc.  The Color Add On is the Scraps of Darkness signature.  This Add On encourages our customers to build their technique supply.  It includes various colors of mists, paints, inks, and other mediums for altering the colors on your projects. Masks, canvas, and stamps vary each month but there is always something unique to apply to the mists and paints.

In addition to offering monthly kits, we have an online store, and offer free shipping to kit subscribers for store purchases that they would like shipped with their Main Kit.  We also have an amazing and diverse Design Team that never ceases to inspire with their gorgeous creations.  Our forums are a lively warm community of supportive scrappers and unique challenges. Stop by and visit our gallery where you can see work from both our Design Team and our subscribers!

Our May 2011 Kit titled “Now and Zen” featured Creative Imaginations, Christine Adolph’s “Sakura” Collection.

Our July 2011 Kit titled “Marrakesh Express” featured Creative Imaginations, Chrisine Adolph’s “Marrakesh” Collection.

The Scraps of Darkness design team and subscribers were thrilled to work with these stunning lines and both of the Main kits were completely sold out!!!

New Teri Martin Christmas Collection

Hi everyone, Nicole again with another CHA sneak...isn't it alll so exciting?!?!  I was thrilled to receive this beautiful Teri Martin Christmas collection with a slightly romantic feel and traditional color combination called
Tidings of Joy!

AVMC2U Layout
Since my style lends itself to a more non-traditional palette, I combined this collection with some  of our Cardstock Basics and Gingham Basics to change the color combo up a bit.  I also added a bit of glitter and some Eye Candy to the snowflake stickers for a bit of extra whimsy.

Happy Holidays Card

This cute collection paired with a little tulle, hand stitching, and buttons makes for a more traditional feel to this Christmas card.  I also added some green glitter around the cardstock sticker sentiment to add a little sparkle!

Fresh Picked ...

Hi Everyone, Lynn here with another CHA Sneak Peek of a new Signature Collection called "Fresh Picked" to be released in September. This collection features double-sided papers and stickers with gorgeous images of fresh fruits and fun basketweave papers. This collection is perfect for those apple-picking pictures and perfect for showcasing your favorite recipes or desserts. I chose to use the strawberry papers to create a layout of Josh picking strawberries. I fussy-cut several strawberries from the paper and added several coordinating stickers around the photos.

I painted white chipboard alpha with Burnt Umber Twinkling H20's - which adds a nice shimmery effect!!
