Challenge

Use a Two Peas free digital kit: a challenge

This week's challenge comes from Laura. She says:

My challenge for this week is to make a project using at least one of the free kits here at 2Peas. To find the free kits, go to the Digital Store. In the dropdown box above the kits select "price low to high" and all of the free kits will come up first. There are all sorts of great freebies to choose from. Every time I browse I find something new! For this layout I used a February Freebie Template by ChrissyW and Penned Words :: I Heart Scrapbooking by Shimelle Laine. You are free to make a digital scrapbooking page, hybrid layout, Project Life spread, card, whatever!, just as long as it uses one free digital kit from the 2Peas store. Upload your project to the gallery (be sure to check the correct challenge box) by midnight CST July 31st for your chance at this week's gift certificate!

And congratulations to last week's winner, TaraSroka!

Designer Spotlight: Emily of Polka Dot Pixels

1. How long have you been designing?

I started designing for web about ten years ago and stumbled upon digital scrapbooking. I thought...Hey! I can do that!! I was hooked. I opened my first online shop in 2008.

2. Were you a scrapbooker before starting to design? If so, have you always been digital or did you transition from traditional paper scrapping?

It is a bit embarrassing. Yes, I was a scrapbooker before starting to design but more specifically, a scrap supply hoarder. I shopped more than I scrapped. Once I started designing for digital, I started scrapping more but not as much as I should. I am ashamed of myself.

3. What are you favorite items to design?

I love creating labels and journaling tags. I LOVE PL and 365 projects!!

4. How long does it typically take you to design a kit?

If I am inspired or have a great idea, I can finish one in a day or two, but when I am busy with other projects, or having a creative block, it can be over a week. I wish sleeping was optional. I could really use more hours in my day.

5. What are some of your inspiration sources?

Old magazines, children's books, vintage catalogs, and of course, Pinterest! I can spend hours stalking everyone's boards. I love living vicariously through other's achievements, talents and style. When I am feeling down, Pinterest helps remind me of how much beauty there is in this world. :)

Challenge

Create a photo-less layout: a challenge

This week's layout comes from Katherine. She says:

We all have a memory or two (or even three ;D) that we want to document where we either have no photographs or the photographs that we have are well, not scrap worthy for whatever reason, lighting was horrible, photos are too blurry. Maybe you don't have any/enough photos because the batteries to your camera had died. Or maybe you are like me and had simply forgotten your camera that day (yep, done that!). There may even be a memory or two that you want to document that doesn't necessarily require any photos (something like my layout). My challenge to you this week is to create a photo-less layout documenting a moment or memory without using any photos. This challenge is open for any theme and/or any topic. Scrapbook anything you want (a birth, birthday, baptism, graduation, concert, etc.) or simply document a list of things that is significant to you . . . things that make you smile (maybe things that make you grumpy), things that are currently happening around you right now, a "he said, she said." Whatever you want. The only requirement is that you use no photos. None. Not even one. Upload your project to the gallery (be sure to check the right challenge box!) by midnight CST July 24th for your chance to win this week's gift certificate!

Have fun to all of you who play along!

And congratulations to last week's gift certificate winner, scrappin-grandma!

1. How long have you been designing?

I had to dig back through my gmail folders to figure that out :P May 2008 was when I first started designing. So that would make it just over 4 years!

2. Were you a scrapbooker before starting to design? If so, have you always been digital or did you transition from traditional paper scrapping?

I was! I was a paper scrapbooker forever (or so it seems) and worked at our local scrapbooking store. I accumulated a gigantic stash over the years that was about to take over my house but luckily, I jumped over to digital just before that happened.  I don't think I have made a single paper scrapped page since switching to digital! lol I love that I can press 'save' and walk away when I need to without having to pack everything up and put it away first. Another thing I love about digital scrapbooking is that I can print out an 8x8 of a layout for my kid's albums and a 12x12 of the same page for the family album. :)

3. What are you favorite items to design?

Templates were my first digi love and I still enjoy making them the best - collabs with my girl, Angie, are a close second though!

4. How long does it typically take you to design a kit?

That depends on how many kids are around and if I've remembered to turn on my classic rap youtube playlist or not.  (yes, I know that is the most ridiculous way to listen to music but it works, so I'll stick with it.)

5. What are some of your inspiration sources?

Angie Kovacs' gallery!! (just kidding) But I actually AM inspired by her layouts and you can tell by the umpteen numbers of Angie'licious sets in my store. :P I am often inspired by signs, magazine ads, book covers and things like that and I keep a notepad handy to sketch out template ideas incase inspiration hits me.

Challenge

Tell a funny story: a challenge

This week's challenge is from Joscie. She says:

My kids are always cracking me up, especially my younger son. The things that come out of his mouth make me laugh all the time and I love to post them on twitter or facebook so I can remember to come back and document them for the future. My boys love to read books and comics and one of their new favorites is called Nemu Nemu and is created by a couple that live here in Hawaii. We follow them on twitter, facebook and instagram and the boys love to share their common adventures with the pups from the comic strip who reply on twitter.  This weekend we saw a playground toy that reminded us of a strip where Anpan learns about inertia and we had to share  with him.  Jordan was thrilled when Anpan replied to our picture. My challenge this week is to tell a fun or funny story. Document it before you forget it! Upload your project to the gallery (be sure to check the right challenge box!) by midnight CST July 17th for your chance at this week's gift certificate!

And the winner of last week's challenge gift certificate is stefdesign - congratulations, Stef!!

Designer Spotlight: Jen Dipzinski

1. How long have you been designing?

I have been a graphic designer for 17 years and have always designed my own artwork for whatever project I was working on at the time. About 5 years ago I found the wonderful world of digital scrapbooking and fell in love with designing digital art! (It’s a whole lot more fun to create for the digi world than for the corporate world!) I’ve  been so exciting and honored to design for Two Peas for the past 2 years! My favorite design programs are Illustrator, Photoshop and ArtRage.

2. Were you a scrapbooker before starting to design? If so, have you always been digital or did you transition from traditional paper scrapping?

I started traditional paper scrapbooking about 16 years ago and found digital about 5 years ago. I mistakingly thought I would totally switch over and just do digital... less mess, easier to travel with, etc....  well that didn’t work the way I planned! I love the feel of paper too much! So now I do both! :)

3. What are you favorite items to design?

I love to doodle!! Almost all of my kits have some kind of doodling in them somewhere!

4. How long does it typically take you to design a kit?

Quite a while! I’m a S-L-O-W designer!! I have all these ideas in my head, but I love to hand draw almost everything so it takes a while. One kit has been known to take about 2 weeks or more.

5. What are some of your inspiration sources?

Inspiration for me comes from everywhere. It can be quite overwhelming sometimes! I try to keep a small notebook to write ideas in since I have a horrible memory!! Driving down the road can be especially frustrating...by the time I have a chance to write down my idea...it’s gone!

Independence: a challenge

This week's challenge is from Jen. She says:

Happy Independence Day!  For us American Peas, today is a day we celebrate the freedom we have in our country and the steps we took long ago to declare our independence.  So this week, whether you're sending up fireworks in the states or are just enjoying the day wherever you are in the world, the challenge is to create a layout with the topic of and title "Independence".  As you can see from my layout, I chose to speak to the independence my sister will have in the next phase of her life.  So what type of independence will you share with us?  Simply upload your project to the gallery (be sure to check the right challenge box!) by midnight CST July 10th for your chance at this week's gift certificate!
