Free For All Friday

We're ringing in the New Year here on the Pebbles blog with some Free For All Friday projects.  From all of us to all of you we wish you a very happy and healthy 2011!

First up I (Lynn Ghahary) created a mini fold book using this tutorial by the very talented and former Pebbles design team member Lisa Johnson.   My sister-in-law snaps monthly photos of my niece Gia in the same chair with the same stuffed animal to help document how she has grown from month to month.  I thought a mini fold book would be the perfect little place to store these photos for a quick glance at Gia's growth during her first year (there are enough pages for her first 12 months).  My sister-in-law can easily print and paste Gia's photos in the mini fold book and I think it will make the perfect book to add to Gia's keepsakes.

"I always love the start of a new year ... so much promise, so many great ideas, and a time for renewal. This year I plan on getting more organized. I actually kind of am already but a little bit more can never hurt and a cute little memo book like this makes it more fun. I love a big purse so this 5x7 memo book will fit in great and I won't need to be searching through all my purse contents to try to find my tiny little note pad. Now when a great idea comes to me or I remember I forgot to add milk to my shopping list I can just jot it down in one place and know just where it is."

Hey everyone! Today we are focusing on one of my favorite new additions to our Pebbles line of products ... Dimensional Stickers! Add a fun layer of dimension to all your paper crafting projects with Pebbles Dimensional Stickers.  Dimensional Stickers are featured in the New Arrival Girl and Boy collections and the Cats & Dogs collection.

Design team member Wendy Sue Anderson puts Pebbles Dimensional Stickers to good use on this layout about the New Year.  Here's what Wendy has to say ... "Last year I didn’t stay awake to witness the ball falling, hear the pans banging, or see the fireworks blasting, welcoming in the New Year.  But the next morning, as I looked out my window, my whole world was covered with a beautiful white frosting glow.  I couldn’t think of a more appropriate symbol of New Beginnings.  May your new year begin like these photos – pure and clean and white…a clean slate – full of beauty and potential!"

The inside of this book are just blank 8.5x11 card stock paper that I cut into 4.25x5.5 pieces. Whip It Up Wednesday

Does the aftermath of the holidays have you short on creative time?  If so then you'll love today's post. I challenged some of our design team members to whip up up a project in 30 minutes or less.

Design team member Laura Vegas created this holiday layout in no time at all.  Here's what Laura had to say ... "I love that the Pebbles collections have lots of basic patterns worked into their paper designs. So that when Pebbles doesn't actually have a Christmas collection, I was able to use the Cats & Dogs collection for my Christmas layout. To make a quick and easy 30 minute layout, I started by simply adhering all my photos to my background cardstock. And then I cut some strips and blocks of pattern paper, to fill the rest of the space. The striped pattern paper had the color orange, which didn't work on my Christmas layout. So I did some small pleats along the paper strip, folding it over to hide the orange parts. Then I simply added my sticker title, a chipboard accent, and a few candy dots to finish off the layout."

Pebbles supplies used:
Cats & Dogs Prrrfect Stripe (751047)
Cats & Dogs Top Dog (751040)
Cats & Dogs Sassy Cat (751049)
Cats & Dogs Buddy ABC Stickers (732013)
Tree House Trunk (751034)
Spring Green Chips (744108)
Red Glitter Candy Dots (744228)
Chocolate Brown Ribbon (744027)

Other supplies used:
Cardstock (American Crafts)

Staples (Tim Holtz)

Design team member Kryssi Ng created this fun layout using a watercolor effect on her background.  Here's what Kryssi had to say ... "With one of my BFFs recently engaged, I've been browsing wedding sites a lot lately. I came across this image, courtesy of oncewed.com, and love the soft watercolor effect swish swashes in the background and decided to emulate that in my layout. I sprayed some color from Smooch onto a silicone mat, watered it down and used a paintbrush to messily paint over my paper canvas.  I so love the rich colors in Tree House that is suitable to use in Christmas projects."

Pebbles supplies used:
Tree House Neighbors (751031)
Tree House Fun (751035)

Other supplies used:
Thickers (American Crafts)
Stamps (Hero Arts, Technique Tuesday)
Glitter (Ranger)
Spray (Smooch)

Design team member Stephanie Baxter created this bright and colorful "thank you" card.  Here's what Stephanie had to say ... ""With Christmas just behind us, I thought it would be a great time to start making some 'Thank You' cards to send to people expressing my appreciation for the lovely gifts they gave me for Christmas, and because it's still a busy time of year catching up with friends and family, it's good to be able to make something in not very much time at all! I love the 3x3 Cards that are part of each collection...they make it so easy to make quick cards because they have the sentiments already written on there for you, so all you have to do is just stick them down and you're good to go! Add a ribbon and an embellishment or two, and you've got yourself a fabulous card."

Pebbles supplies:
New Arrival Girl Welcome Home (751060)
Treehouse 3x3 Cards (751024)
Twitterpated Chipboard Embellishments (74112)
Raspberry Ribbon (44030)

Other supplies:

How To Tuesday

Today's "How To Tuesday" post is brought to you today by Kristen Swain. Here's what Kristen had to say "I love creating a matching card and gift wrap. I keep tins and boxes that are interesting and regift them once I've filled them and given them new life. Those who receive these gifts are doubly wowed, the outside is beautiful and the treats inside are yummy! I found these gorgeous cupcake shaped truffles at a store, I love that I could show them off in the tin because they are just so pretty."  And here are Kristen's step by step instructions ...

1. Cut blocks of Twitterpated Giddy and I Love You, then stitch around outside edge of Twitterpated Giddy, adhere to card base.

2. Cut and tear corrugated cardboard, then tear off top paper of cardboard.  Adhere Twitterpated 3x3 Card at an angle.

3. Adhere chipboard flower and dot ribbon to card.

4. Layer Paper Flowers with Epoxy Brad, add journaling sticker and chipboard heart to card, then add greeting with letter stickers and finish with Candy Dots.

1. Fill tin with treats, then tape sides and tie ribbon around tin with bow topper.

2. Cut strip of Twitterpated Giddy, wrap around tin, and hold in place with ribbon.

3. Add journaling sticker, Paper Flower with epoxy brad and letter stickers to tin, finish with Candy Dots.

"For this layout I used different collections combining greens, pinks and yellows. I love the versatility of the themed lines - the papers and embellishments can be used for all kind of layouts! More Traditions with Suzanne and LG

Design team member Suzanne Sergi created this stunning layout to celebrate a relatively new tradition in her family. Here's what Suzanne had to say ... "I am all about tradition with my family, and sometimes the best traditions, are new ones! Last year, was the first time, my children had seen snow. Living in Southern California, we are spoiled with beautiful weather. However, every once in awhile, I do long for the change of seasons. Last year, my friends convinced me to tread to another city, so the children could have a day of sledding! I was hesitant at first. I love living in my bubble. However, in the end, I am glad they changed my mind! The children had a wonderful day playing in the snow, sledding, and even building their first snowman. We are definitely, making this an annual tradition. We will be going again in a couple of weeks. For this page, I used the Cats & Dogs Collection. The colors and the patterns matched perfectly with my snapshot! The back of Top Dog has a pattern that reminded me of snow, so my main embellishment is a large glittered snowflake! I also dusted the white New Arrival sticker letters with glitter too! I pulled in a flower sticker from the Skipping Along collection, to embellish the center of the snowflake. Love the playfulness of the Cats & Dogs collection, and loved that it captured our new tradition perfectly!"

I take advantage of the time before midnight to take some family pics while the kids are awake and excited to open their presents. I cut out the tree using my Slice machine and folded the spool ribbon to use as trim and positioned a few epoxy brads as the balls. I traced the bracket/journaling sheet from paper I have on-hand and cut it by hand. I found strips of doily lace in a baking supplies shop and used it to add some old-fashioned charm to my layout."

More Holiday Traditions with Lisa and Anna

Design team member Lisa Kisch created this festive layout to celebrate her daughters' visit with Santa.  Here's what Lisa had to say ... ""One of my favourite traditions at Christmas is taking the girls to see Santa. It's always a little dicey - I never know how they are going to react to the Big Guy. This year went pretty smoothly and we got a cute picture to boot! In terms of the design of this layout, I was pleasantly surprised at how well "Cats and Dogs" lends itself to the holidays. I used both patterned papers and letter stickers from that line for this project. I even used the red heart-shaped kitty tag to add my date. Then there are the red glitter candy dots - they practically scream Christmas! I mounted them on paper snowflakes and circle punches of generic red metallic wrapping paper. Have a look in your non-holiday stash to find supplies that are perfect for holiday scrapping - you might be surprised what you find!"

Pebbles supplies used:

Design team member Anna Sigga used non-traditional holiday colors on her layout.  Here's what Anna had to say ... "Every year we go to my older daughters Kindergarten/Day-care and decorate gingerbread cookies along with all the other kids and parents. This is such a fun time and it always brings out the Christmas spirit in me and my girl. I decided to use the Twitterpated collection because it was just a perfect fit with all the colors in the photos - so it is OK to crate a layout about the holidays without using the traditional themed papers."

This year I decided that I'd dress the wine bottle up with a little bottle box and tag creating a simple yet festive decoration. Design team member Kim Kesti shares with us a layout about decorating a gingerbread house for the holidays!  Here's what Kim has to say ... "“What could be better (and more fun) than using Pebbles Candy Dots on a layout about gingerbread houses? Not much! I kept the layout pretty simple and put most of the emphasis on the photos and the fun border at the bottom. I love using the Candy Dots because they are self adhesive; it’s easy as pie to whip up a cute border.  Happy Holidays, everyone!”

More Holiday Cards with Wendy Sue and I plus a GIVEAWAY!

First up, I (Lynn Ghahary) created a set of holiday tags using patterned papers from the Tree House collection.  The Tree House collection has the perfect color palette for the holidays.  I used my Cricut Expression and the Winter Frolic cartridge to create fun tag shapes and images.  These tags will be the perfect addition to my holiday gifts this Christmas.

Pebbles supplies used:
Tree House View (751027)
Tree House Melody (751030)
Tree House Adventure (751032)
Tree House Bliss (751033)
Tree House Trunk (751034)
Tree House Fun (751035)
Chocolate Brown ABC Stickers (732023)

Other supplies used:
Cardstock (American Crafts)
Jewels (Me & My Big Ideas)
Punches (EK Success)
Cricut Machine and Cartridges (Provo Craft)
Baker's Twine

Design team member Wendy Sue Anderson also used the Tree House collection to create this fun and festive holiday card.  Here's what Wendy Sue had to say ... "To make the little Christmas tree on my card, I cut apart the strips from the Merriment paper and used the green, red, and brown patterns.  I cut various lengths and arranged them from smallest (on top) to longest (on bottom).  I didn’t take too much time making everything perfect – I kind of like that it’s a little wonky.  I added Candy Dots to act as ornaments ... and what’s a Christmas Tree without a star on top (even a beautiful yellow flower)?  To create the sentiment, I placed the large stickers down, then added “to you” by using letters from the “thank you” sentiment sheet.  And of course, I had to use lots of foam dots to add dimension!"

Pebbles supplies used:
Tree House Merriment (751028)
Tree House Club (751026)
Tree House Trunk (751034)
Red Candy Dots (744228)
Tree House Paper Flowers (741002)
Chirpy ABC Stickers (732008)
Duplicate Rub Ons, Thank You – White (760206)
Earth Tones Chalk (742127)

More Holiday Cards with Deena and Savitri

Design team member Deena Wuest created this stunning Christmas tree using products from our New Arrival Boy collection.  Here's what Deena had to say ... "Who says Christmas trees have to be green? A recent trip to a department store opened my eyes to the world of colored Christmas trees. Of course, there were the standard green but then there stood blue trees, red trees, white trees, pink trees, even black trees! It was the perfect inspiration for this funky non-traditional Christmas card. I ran three patterned papers from the New Arrival Boy collection through my die cut machine to get these fun scallops then just layered them and trimmed them into a triangle. I topped it with a layered felt star and sprinkled on pearl candy dots for some sparkle. A few letter stickers artfully arranged becomes a fun typography trunk and completes this quick and easy card!"

Theme: Holiday Cards

This week on the Pebbles blog we are focusing on Holiday Cards.  There's nothing better than giving (and receiving) a handmade card during the holidays.  I've asked some of our design team members to share with us some of their ideas for creating holiday cards made with Pebbles products.

Design team member Kristen Swain created this stunning card using scraps from some previous Pebbles projects.  Here's what Kristen had to say ... "One of my favorite things to do is to use my scraps from other projects, I find it's so much easier to see unique combinations of colors and patterns when you are playing with the smaller pieces like scraps. I love that I can make several cards with my scraps, and my throw away is minimal, what a great way to save money and paper! I put these two red and green papers together and thought it was just a fun and pretty Christmas combo, making a card came easy once I was inspired to add a little kraft cardstock to the mix. Adding this large ribbon and bow really gives my card a lot of punch too!! I also used foam tabs on the chipboards, not just for the dimension they add, but now my card has more sticking power to stay well adhered."

"I love making my Christmas cards each year and I always include a photo.  The pretty blue doily designs in the New Arrival Rub Ons reminded me of snowflakes and I thought they would look perfect on my Christmas card."

One of the ways I love to make my gifts a little more special is to make my own bags. I have done this every year and I feel like the wrap is an extension of the gift. Design team member Melinda Spinks created this colorful pillow box to hold goodies for a gift.  Here's what Melinda had to say ... "I can honestly relate to the name 'silly season' to describe the lead-up to Christmas. There seems to be so much going on, especially as I live on a farm and we are also in the middle of harvesting which adds to the craziness. My calendar is full of functions between now and Christmas and there seem to be so many gifts that need to be given in all directions for school teachers, kinder teachers, family, friends to say "thank you" for everything they've done during the year. So I decided that I needed a small gift that could be reproduced quickly with versatility to change it around for different occasions and different people ... the trusty pillow box filled with treats was the perfect solution. And to make it even more fun, I decided to use really thick clear acetate so that you can see what's inside. Now, I have acetate templates all over my table, bags of chocolates and lollies scattered everywhere ... almost looks like Santa's workshop minus the elves!"

More Gift Giving Projects with Ginger and Lisa

Design team member Ginger Williams created this fabulous home decor project perfect for gift giving and displaying all winter long.  Here's what Ginger had to say ... "I love using my scrapbook supplies to make home decor! For this assignment I knew right away what I wanted to do! A sweet friend of mine last year gave me a set of cute blocks that said "joy" and I've wanted to make a set of blocks as a Christmas gift for a super sweet scrapbooking friend of mine ever since. The versatility of the New Arrival lines really makes it easy to use them for just about any theme. I choose the boy line to help me make this set of winter blocks for my friend! The blocks were easy to get I just bought a thin board at the local home improvement store and cut them into 3 1/2" blocks. I spray painted them silver and then added my Pebbles supplies. The letters, snowman, and snowflakes were cut with my Cricut."

Design team member Lisa Kisch shows off her crafty skills and adorns this sweet felted dress with some of Pebbles new felt embellishments.  Here's what Lisa had to say ... "Have you tried felting? I'm a little addicted! I've been collecting wool and cashmere sweaters from thrift stores, and then I wash and dry them a few times at a high temperature. The result is a shrunken sweater that is ready to be cut up and used for different projects. The best part is the felt doesn't unravel, which mean no need to finish the edges.  For the project below, I took a felted women's turtleneck and turned it into a dress and hairband for my daughter. What little girl wouldn't want this for Christmas? I simply cut off the turtleneck and sleeves, put it over Audrey's head and used my scissors to cut the arm holes to the right size right on her body. I trimmed the sides of the sweater to make an A-line, and sewed them up with my sewing machine. A quick snip across the top of the removed turtleneck created the headband. After that, it was about embellishing with New Arrival Girl felt embellishments and buttons! I roughly cut flower shapes out of the the leftover felt, then sewed the felt flowers and buttons to the centres -- as far as I'm concerned, these embellishments are what make the dress so special. Another flower attached to the hair band and it became a perfectly coordinating outfit that Audrey wore to see Santa last weekend.  Does this give you other gift ideas? Mittens? Neck warmer? Flower pin? I'd love to see what you come up with using Pebbles to embellish your holiday gifts."

Theme: Gift Giving

This week on the Pebbles blog we are focusing on Gift Giving.  With the holidays upon us it is the perfect time to use that stash of paper and creative skills to whip up something crafty for friends and family.  I've asked some of our design team members to share with us some of their ideas for creating the perfect gift made with Pebbles products.

Design team member Stephanie Baxter is all set for the Christmas holiday thanks to the Tree House collection.  Here's what Stephanie had to say ... "I know I keep saying how versatile Pebbles products are, but it’s really true! You might not think at first that the collections really lend themselves to Christmas projects, but just take a look at the colours in the Tree House line ... lots of lovely red and green in there to add a festive feel to your projects ... just perfect for creating little gift tags or gift card holders, like I’ve done here. For the gift card, I added some red Glitter Dots to the chipboard tree from the Tree House collection to make it a bit more glitzy and Christmas-y and tied a red ribbon to the front of the card for that little extra something. I also made sure to staple a small piece of paper to the inside of the card in order to slip a gift card in there. The gift tag is pretty much as you see it ... just a few fab Tree House products, finished off by pleating a piece of red ribbon and sewing it down. You could whip up quite a few of these in no time!”

Design team member LG Belarmino created this stunning altered frame using the New Arrival Boy collection.  Here's what LG had to say ... "There are so many ways to save this holiday season and one of them is by altering items found in your home. For my project, I have used an old photo frame and altered it with patterned paper and embellishments from the New Arrival Boy collection. By simply using one patterned paper, I was able to cover the body of the frame with paper rolls. This technique added dimension to the original frame that I started with. The great thing about Pebbles embellishments is that the work has already been made for you. By simply placing them together, I was able to create a beautiful layering of design. This project is so easy to do and you should try it out!"

Free For All Friday

Hey everyone!  We are wrapping up the week with a few "free for all" projects from some of our design team members.

Design team member Deena Wuest altered this super sweet mini key chain holder using the New Arrival Boy collection.  Here's what Deena had to say ... "When I found this mini key chain photo holder in the clearance bin, I knew it would be perfect for a little newborn brag album. Originally there was only enough space for two photos. Hmm, that will never do! I trimmed small pieces of patterned paper and made it into a mini book to hold lots of photos and text. Although I wouldn't recommend using this as your primary key ring, it would be super sweet attached to the strap of a diaper bag!"

Design team member Ria Mojica created several projects perfect for the holiday season.  Here's what Ria had to say ... "I am so happy that my favorite season of the year is here. Granted, it is a very busy, tiring, fattening and expensive season, but it's also so much fun! Seeing my daughter squeal with delight when she opens her presents makes it all worth it! The Turkey Thank You and Recipe Cards were a cinch to make with some scraps and my die-cutting machine. I love how the strips of patterned paper at the bottom worked double time as tabs for the recipe cards! And what more can I say about the Tree House line? This is absolutely the most versatile collection ever ... I can't think of a season in the year that you can't use all or part of it ... of course, it's perfect for my Christmas layout, too!"

For today's edition of "Sketchy Thursday" I asked some of our design team members to create a project based on this fabulous sketch by Becky Fleck.

Design team member Guiseppa Gubler used the sketch to scrap these adorable pictures of her daughter.  Here's what Guiseppa had to say ... "I really love these pictures of my daughter.  I knew that I needed to scrap them using the Tree House collection.  The bright colors of this line went perfectly with the pictures.  I used a lot of pop dots to add dimension to highlight some of the fun patterns of the paper.  The sketch was also perfect.  It allowed me to really focus on the pictures.  When you have the right papers, a fun sketch, and beautiful pictures it allows everything to come together beautifully!"

Design team member Anna Sigga did an amazing job with the sketch and created this beautiful layout of her sweet daughter.  Here's what Anna had to say ... "I really loved the sketch so I decided to create my layout mostly according to the sketch. I mainly focused on the paper layers and the flowers - plus the journal spot gave me the push I needed to add a bit of journaling to the layout. Even if I don't like my own handwriting it felt important to add that little bit of storytelling to my creation. The Cats & Dogs collection was just so perfectly playful for the happy pics of my younger daughter - this truly is a versatile line."

Whip It Up Wednesday

For today's post I challenged some of our design team members to "whip up" a project using Pebbles products in 30 minutes or less. Check out these fabulous projects that can be created in no time at all!

Design team member Christa Paustenbaugh created this fun layout about her family in less than 30 minutes!  Here's what Christa had to say ... ""Doing quick layouts for me is pretty difficult even though my pages tend to be fairly simple - go figure!  I've been wanting to do a layout like this for some time and I thought a symmetrical layout would be quick and a great highlight for my daughters' differences!  A linear design paired with my favorite punches, makes for an easy layout!"

Design team member Sarah Webb put her scrapping skills to the test and created this sweet layout in no time at all.  Here's what Sarah had to say ... "I am not a quick scrapper. 30 minutes? Oh boy! My husband laughed when he heard about the assignment, as he watched me shuffle around pink product. But then he gave me some sage advice - don't cut anything. And he was right. When I pared down what I needed to cut or 'create', as I normally would, it all went much better and much faster. There are so many cute elements to choose from! I chose the Word Dimensional stickers as my starting point for the rest of the page."

Design team member Suzanne Sergi shows us how you can use Pebbles supplies not only in the craft room but the kitchen as well!  Here's what Suzanne had to say ... "Each Thanksgiving I try out a new cookie recipe. This year I tried a Crinkle Chocolate Cookie, but wanted to dress the tops of the cookies. Inspired by a similar cookie in Martha Stewart's Holiday Cookie Magazine, I knew the Pebbles Flowers Stencil would be the perfect tool! I simply layered the stencil on top of each cookie, and lightly dusted confectioner's sugar. I gently lifted the stencil, and loved the beautiful image it created! I love to bake, and now I have another baking tool in the kitchen!  I created a simple, and dainty card to attach to my boxed cookies, gifted for the hostess of Thanksgiving! Pebbles has a variety of stencils to choose from, and will be perfect for any cookie or celebration!"
