How To Tuesday

First things first, I have a winner to announce from last week's "Favorite Things" giveaway. Thank you all so much for your comments. And the lucky winner is ...

Congratulations! Please email your full name and mailing information (including your phone number for shipping purposes) as well as your choice of current Pebbles collection to pebblesincdt(at)gmail(dot)com and put "Favorite Things Winner" in the subject line.

Design team member Laura Vegas is going to share a fun ribbon technique with us today.  You'll also notice that Laura is using our brand new mid-release collection Floral Lane - isn't it gorgeous?!?  Here's what Laura had to say ... "One of my favorite Pebbles products is their ribbons. I love all the fun and bright colors that they come in. I'm always looking for new ways to incorporate ribbons onto my layouts and cards. One new technique I have been having fun with, is making flowers out of ribbons."

First, you'll need to gather your supplies. You will need some ribbon, thread or floss, a needle, glue dots, and your embellishment of choice to add to the centers of the flowers. I'm using some dimensional stickers for mine. But you could also use buttons, felt embellishments, chipboard flowers, etc.

Thread your needle. White thread works just fine, since it really won't show once the flower is assembled. Start at one end of the ribbon, and do a basic running stitch (up and down through the fabric) along the bottom of the ribbon. You want to go about 1/8 of an inch from the bottom of the ribbon.

The length of your ribbon, will depend on how big you want your flower to be. I suggest doing your running stitch, and bunching up the ribbon now and then to get a feel for how more you need to stitch. For my flowers, I used a 10 inch strip of ribbon.

Once you have completed your running stitch, you will want to gather up the ribbon. To do this, you will hold the remaining thread (keeping the needle on there) with one hand, and push the ribbon down the thread to gather it. You might need to work it down from the bottom a little, and then come back to the top and work that part down. You can gather it as tightly or as loosely as you like.

The gathered ribbon will curl up, so you need to work it into a nice circle shape, making sure it doesn't get too twisted up as you go. Then hold the two ends of the ribbon together, and use your needle to sew those ends together, tying it off on the backside.

Repeat these steps for any remaining ribbons. I created three flowers, using yellow, pink, and blue ribbon. Also pull out your embellishment of choice for the flower centers.

To assemble my ribbon flowers, I use mini glue dots to adhere the ribbon to my card or layout, leaving the center open. Then I use foam pop dots to adhered my embellishment to the center, which gives it some lift and dimension in the center of the flower.

These ribbon flowers will look super cute on your layouts or cards. I hope you'll try out this fun technique, and see what you can come up with!

More "Favorite Things" Projects with Laura and Lisa

Design team member Laura Vegas documented her current list of "favorites" on this fun layout.  Here's what Laura had to say ... "I thought it would be fun to do a layout about some of my favorite things. I have created a few other layouts like this in the past, and it's fun to look back and compare which favorites have changed and which remain the same. As with a lot of my "all about me" layouts, I choose to create a photo-less layout. I have a lot of fun creating these, and just focusing on the fun products and what I want to say. I used my circle cutter, to cut out different sized circles from a variety of pattern papers. Each circle contains a list of favorites for a specific theme, like music, hobbies, TV shows, and more."

"When Lynn suggested we scrap a favourite thing, I immediately though of scrapping holding hands with my girls. I love walking down the street, a little girl on either side, clinging to my hands and chatting away. I beam like the proud mama I am! I wanted to contrast the black and white photo with something very delicate frilly-- so I made up these rolled paper flowers on my Wishblade using cut files from Laina Lamb.  I decided to type the journaling, and here's a tip! Print out journaling on scraps of photo paper. The text comes out crystal clear, and the shiny surface helps it to stand out better."

Theme: My Favorite Things

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  This week's theme is "My Favorite Things."  I've asked some of our Pebbles design team members to create projects either focusing on some of their favorite things (e.g., a favorite photo) or using some of their favorite things (e.g., a product, technique, etc).

First up, design team member Suzanne Sergi created this adorable layout focusing on one of her favorite techniques - creating paper flowers.  Here's what Suzanne had to say ... "It is all about favorites this week, and I decided to create a page using one of my favorite paper embellishments. My favorite paper flowers to create are simple scallop flowers. Pair them with the vibrant Happy Go Lucky line, and you have a perfect combination! I used the Glad patterned paper to create the red paper blooms. I used stickers, buttons, and cardstock to embellish the centers. This collection is all about happy, so I found this great photo of my daughter playing on her scooter. Her personality is colorful, and the papers helped to convey this story. The paper blooms were the perfect finishing detail to this fun page!"

I love the Happy Go Lucky line and decided to combine it with the trend of a grid style page.  Of course the page needed some butterflies, another popular scrappy trend, which are also perfect for my girl!"

Guest Designer:

Hi everyone! I am so excited to introduce you to this week's Guest Designer Roree Rumph.  Let's get to know Roree a little better ...

Describe yourself in 3 words …  Caring, Shy, Procrastinator.

My guilty pleasure is …  without a doubt - Starbucks.  I should own part of that company by now.  ;)

You’ll never find me without …  my iPhone.  I am addicted to playing games on it.  It comes in so handy when I am waiting around.

You might be surprised to know that I …  learned to sew because of scrapbooking.  And the funny thing is that my mom made a living with her sewing machine while I was growing up.  (She made custom draperies.)  I never had any interest in learning when I was younger.

My least favorite chore is …  vacuuming.  My dogs are always bringing in dirt, so my floors always need to be cleaned.

I started scrapbooking in ...  2005.  I went to buy party invites for my daughter's 5th birthday party, and the ones I wanted were really expensive.  I decided to make my own, and after that I was hooked.  In hindsight, I should have gotten the expensive invitations.  I would have saved a ton of money in the long run.  LOL

My favorite thing about this hobby is ...  getting to be creative.  From picking and choosing color and patterns to making something from start to finish, I love it all.

If I were a Pebbles product I would be ...  the felt flowers.  You can't go wrong with flowers!

Roree created so many amazing projects for us including this gorgeous layout about her daughter.  Here's what Roree had to say ... "When I saw the felt flower embellishments from the Happy Go Lucky collection, I immediately started looking through my photos for something with flowers.  I found these pictures of my daughter picking flowers when she was 2.  (She's now 11!)  The flowers were the perfect embellishment to help tell my story."

Product Parade: Clear Stamps

Hey everyone! Today we are focusing on one of the newest additions to the Pebbles product family ... Clear Stamps! Clean and stylish, these stamp designs create just the right touch for cards and pages!

Design team member Savitri Wilder created this sweet "DREAM" card.  Here's what Savitri had to say ... "I love making cards and stamping. Not only is the process relaxing but the end result is quite satisfying. It always makes me happy when a face lights up after receiving a handmade card. While card making can be as time consuming as scrapbooking it doesn't have to be the case. A small piece of paper, a few embellishments, a stamp or two, and a bit of time is all you need to brighten someone's day. For this card Pebbles Ever After pieces gave me everything I needed to create a piece that I'd be proud to gift. LOVE the color combo, so pretty I think. :)"

Pebbles supplies used:
Ever After Magical (751112)
Ever After Buttons (747097)

Design team member Zoe Nemburt also created a card.  Here's what Zoe had to say ... "I’m really not much of a stamper pro! But I do like stamps and seem to keep collecting more and more, I know have a whole box full of acrylic stamps, My favourites are Quote stamps like the one I used today, the absolute best thing about this stamp is that the quote “Once upon a time” is separate from the swirly border so you could stamp on it’s own or in two different colours! Most importantly just break out those stamps and have fun with them."

May is a month full of celebrations. Besides Mother’s Day and two graduations, May brings two birthdays in our family. Our Clara is sixteen and recently had her braces removed, so this jar of gumballs is sure to put a smile on her face. At sixteen, life is definitely GOOD!"

How To Tuesday

First things first, I have a winner to announce from last week's "Guest Designer" giveaway. Thank you all so much for your comments. And the lucky winner is ...

Congratulations! Please email your full name and mailing information (including your phone number for shipping purposes) as well as your choice of Pebbles collection to pebblesincdt(at)gmail(dot)com and put "Guest Designer Winner" in the subject line.

Today's "How To" post is brought to you by the very talented Melinda Spinks.  Melinda shows us how to create this gorgeous candle decoration.  Here's what Melinda had to say ... "Today I'm going to share a fun way to 'temporarily' liven up a candle so that you can always have the colours of the season or the theme of the occasion on display with a decorative trim. I have a plain glass vase that holds a large table candle we use when guests come over and lately I've been adding little touches to give it a revamp. However, it's nice to be able to remove the decorations and change them for something new, especially if the sames guests are visiting."  And here are Melinda's step by step instructions ...

First gather the supplies you will need -

Pebbles supplies used:
Happy Go Lucky Carefree (751083)
Happy Go Lucky Splendid (751081)
Mr & Mrs Pearl Candy Dot Flourish (747081)

Other supplies used:
Clear Acetate
Burlap (hessian) in two neutral colours
Small flower punch (EK Success)
Circle cutter
Quilling tool
Hot Glue Gun
Adhesive Magnet Strips

Step 1: First you'll need to dig around in your cupboards for an appropriate size glass container to house your candle and then measure the distance around. Cut a strip of acetate to the desired length and add an extra half an inch for overlap.

Step 2: Place adhesive magnet strips on both ends of the acetate.

Step 3: Wrap the acetate around your container to check the magnets are in the right place and holding firm before you go any further.

Step 4: Cut a strip of Burlap to cover the acetate and allow for extra to overhang both top and bottom. Frey the edges slightly and adhere strip to acetate making sure not to cover the magnets.

Making the flowers -

Step 1: Cut different size circles from your patterned paper.

Step 2: Using a sharp pair of scissors cut your cirles into spiral shapes and leave a circle tab in the center which will become the base of your flower.

Step 3: Roll the edges of your spiral slightly - I use a small screwdriver.

Step 4: Using your quilling tool start rolling the spiral from the outside edge in towards the center. Using a hot glue gun adhere your rolled spiral to the base.

Step 5: Cut a handful of flowers from patterned paper using a small flower punch.

Step 6: Hand cut some small leaves from your burlap and frey the edges slightly.

Assembly -

Step 1: Starting from the centre front of your burlap strip, adhere your flowers and leaves using a hot glue gun.

Step 2: Place a pearl gem into the centre of each small punched flower to finish.

Step 3: Allow a few minutes for your glue to dry and cool before wrapping around your glass candle holder. Put the kettle on, grab a biscuit and a book, light your candle and enjoy!

Mix & Match Monday

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a great weekend.  Time to mix things up a bit on the Pebbles blog as some of our design team members show off their creative skills while mixing and matching products from several Pebbles collections.

Design team member Ria Mojica created this simply adorable layout about her daughter's meeting with Tinkerbelle.  Here's what Ria had to say ... "It's obvious just by looking at it that I had a lot of fun playing with this layout. I pulled together the green and orange from Happy Go Lucky and the blue from Ever After with a little pink from both collections. They complemented my photos perfectly. The sunburst design in the background helps to bring out the happy mood of this day."

Pebbles supplies used:
Happy Go Lucky Cheery (751080)
Happy Go Lucky Carefree (751083)
Happy Go Lucky Happy (751091)
Happy Go Lucky Chipboard Flowers (747071)

Happy Go Lucky Fabric Brads (747077)
Happy Go Lucky Candy Dots Boysenberry (747080)

Ever After Sparkle (751113)
Ever After Royal Banner (751115)

Other supplies used:

Thickers (American Crafts)
Ink (Clearsnap)
Punches (EK Success)

Design team member Deena Wuest created this sweet card using both the Ever After and New Addition Girl collections as well as the pearl flourish from The Mr. & Mrs. collection.  Here's what Deena had to say ... "The mix of fairy tale and elegance in the last few collections go so very well together. I loved these pearl candy dot flourishes and thought they would be perfect to decoratively divide two different patterned papers. To do this temporarily position the flourish on your paper, outline it lightly with a pencil then trim with a scissors. Then simply place the flourish so it covers the seam and position an epoxy embellishment front and center. Simple!"

Pebbles supplies used:
Ever After Royal Garden (751106)
New Arrival GirlSweet Moments (751056)
The Mr. & Mrs. Pearl Flourishes (747081)
Ever After Epoxy Embellishments (747095)

Guest Designer: Sheri Reguly plus a GIVEAWAY!

I am so very excited to share with you a new feature here on the Pebbles blog.  Several times a month we will be asking some very talented scrapbookers to share their time and talent with us here on the Pebbles blog as a Guest Designer.  Our very first Guest Designer comes to us all the way from Canada and is none other than the amazingly talented Sheri Reguly!  Let's get to know Sheri a little bit better ...

Describe yourself in 3 words …  Loving, Dependable, Stubborn.

My guilty pleasure is …chocolate (in any shape or form).

You’ll never find me without …chapstick, lipgloss, or lipstick on. Dry lips drive me absolutely crazy.  I generally have about a dozen Bonne Bell Lip Smackers on the go at once, and keep them conveniently spread across the house.

You might be surprised to know that I …got married when I was only 22. This summer we'll be celebrating 16 wonderful years!

My least favorite chore is …cleaning the bathrooms.

I started scrapbooking in ... 2001, shortly after the birth of my son, Justin.

My favorite thing about this hobby is ... the fact that I'm preserving our family's memories in both photos and words. A close second would be that little bit of "me time" where I get to relax and unwind at the end of the day. :)

If I were a Pebbles product I would be ...  the entire Happy Go Lucky collection. I just love it's wonderful combination of colors, as well as it's playful and lighthearted feel.

Sheri created several wonderful projects for us including this stunning layout.  Here's what Sheri had to say ... "My inspiration for this layout was the embossed sticker that I used for my title. My daughter, Shailyn, has such an amazing little personality, and is a true free spirit at heart. I love her just the way she is, and truly hope that she never changes. I chose my cardstock and patterned papers based on the colors within my photo. The gray cardstock resembles the concrete background, and the pinks, reds, greens, and blues can all be found within her outfit. The flowers, tress, butterfly and clouds all reflect her love for nature and, as well as her genuine love for life. I wanted this page to be as happy as she is."

Pebbles supplies used:
Happy Go Lucky Glad Varnish (751087)
Happy Go Lucky Delight (751086)
Happy Go Lucky Dandy (751089)
Happy Go Lucky Embossed Stickers (732036)
Happy Go Lucky Chipboard Flowers (747071)
Happy Go Lucky Buttons (747069)

Other supplies used:

Cardstock (American Crafts)

Here's what Sheri had to say about her next project ... "My inspiration for this layout was the epoxy accent that I used for my title. The fairytale wording inspired everything from my color choices, to the words I chose for my journaling, as well as the feminine embellishments that I incorporated into my design. My goal was to create a very girly page, that was fit for a princess."

Pebbles supplies used:
Happy Go Lucky Dandy (751089)
Happy Go Lucky Glad Varnish (751087)
Happy Go Lucky Border Stickers (732037)
Happy Go Lucky Dimensional Stickers (732038)

Happy Go Lucky Embossed Stickers (732036)
Ever After Flower Brads (747101)
Ever After Epoxy Brads (747095)

Other supplies used:

Cardstock (American Crafts)

Here's what Sheri had to say about her next project ... "It has made me so incredibly happy, that my children have finally found that they have a friend in eachother. I wanted this layout to document that very special relationship. The cloud paper that I chose for the top portion of my page, blends in perfectly with the background of my photo. If you look closely, you can spot the blue sky just behind the trees. The dimensional sticker was perfectly fitting with the theme of my page, therefore making for the ideal title choice. I chose my patterned papers based on the colors within my photo, and incorporated a few simple accents to complete my design."

Pebbles supplies used:
Happy Go Lucky Cloud Nine (751090)
Happy Go Lucky Delight (751086)

Happy Go Lucky Buttons (747069)
Happy Go Lucky Embossed Stickers (732036)
Happy Go Lucky Dimensional Stickers (732038)

And finally Sheri created this adorably sweet "thank you" card.  Here's what Sheri had to say ... "Whenever I get the chance, I like to create simple cards, just to have on hand. Often, I'll create a card with the leftovers that are sitting on my desk after designing a layout. All of the colors and patterns from the Happy Go Lucky collection work so wonderfully together, and the decorative border strips make for the perfect simple embellishment. I used one strip to separate my two main patterns, and incorporated another into the flag banner that I used for my sentiment. A simple dimensional flower accent was then added to my card for the perfect finishing touch."

Pebbles supplies used:
Happy Go Lucky Splendid (751081)

"For this card I combined both the Happy Go Lucky  and the Ever After collections.  Combining these two was perfect.  Both collections are so fun, bright and have a Spring feel to them ... perfect for a Mother's Day card.  If your mother is like mine, she will really appreciate a handmade card.  I love that Pebbles Inc. has the perfect collections to create fun cards. Now, off to the mailbox this one goes!"

Design team member Kryssi Ng also created a sweet card perfect for her mom.  Here's what Kryssi had to say ... "First I have to say that in all these years, with all my paper crafting tools and supplies, I have never made my mom a card. Shame, I know. I probably did as a school project during grade school, but that would still be aeons ago. My mom has always been encouraging when it came to nurturing my education in the arts. She was always so proud that one of her kids was "gifted", hah! Around here, we refer to our mom as "M", so I played on that with the ABC stickers and opting for a felt embellishment in the middle. I wanted to keep it simple as her English language is limited, but I think she can read M-O-M! :)"

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day and a very Happy National Scrapbook Day as well!  Since we were partnering up with American Crafts last week we didn't get a chance to celebrate Mother's Day here on the Pebbles blog.  Well we plan on celebrating all week long with lots of inspirational projects created by some of our Pebbles design team members.

First up, design team member Anna Sigga created this adorable mini album - simply stunning!  Here's what Anna had to say ... "This Mother's Day I plan to give my mother and mother in-law a mini album, and I thought why not make one for myself too. I've always loved American Crafts products and to do a swap gave me a wonderful opportunity to play around with some new American Crafts goodies! Thanks American Crafts and Pebbles for arranging this! As for my project ... I love this picture of our little girl. It was a casual shot that I took while we went for walk after school. She was still in her uniform too! Since I wanted to really highlight the photo I went for a clean and simple take on this layout. There were so many paper options to choose from but the Peachy Keen line were perfect for the photograph. I finally settled on this yellow one because while it's still neutral and soft there's a tad bit pop of color which made the layout girlie and fun. I added a few awesome embellishments from different lines and voila. Now, not only do I love this photo I LOVE the layout it's in."

Design team member Laura Vegas created this layout that just screams "summertime" to me.  Here's what Laura had to say ... "American Crafts and Pebbles products really do go hand in hand. I really wanted to get a good mix of product, from different collections, to show how easily they all work together. I used patterned papers from 2 different Pebbles collections, and 3 different American Crafts collections. And yet they all look like they were meant to go together. "What a treat to combine our Pebbles lines with some of the delicious new lines from American Crafts. I started out with a two page layout about some of my recent sewing projects.  Once I finished this layout, I had some very interesting scraps - what to do with a perfectly good sheet of paper with a big hole in it? I'll be honest, usually this would end up in the scrap bin, but since it's one of my favourite patterns from Happy Go Lucky I decided to challenge myself to put it to good use. I came up with another layout about a local french pastry shop, 'Bobette and Belle'"

More American Crafts/Pebbles Product Swap Projects!

Design team member Deena Wuest always creates such fun projects and this card is no exception.  Here is what Deena had to say ... "Working with both Pebbles and American Crafts, I was surprised at how well the colors coordinated between the two lines. And since all the papers have a larger print on one side and a smaller subtle print on the other, it makes mixing and matching so simple. I also love that Pebbles ribbon is wide and American Crafts ribbon is thinner which is perfect for layering. Because of all of the above, this quick card came together in mere minutes. (The hardest part was deciding which of the many fun products to use.)"

I wanted it to be full of color, and I  accented the sticker butterflies, to create movement on this page. I love these photos of my little girl, so the Pebbles stick pins, and the jewel flowers were the perfect finishing details. I loved working with the kraft papers from American Crafts, and how easy it was to find a paper from my Pebbles stash. American Crafts/Pebbles Product Swap!

Hi everyone! So this week proves to be a very exciting one here on the Pebbles blog. I am so excited to announce that we have teamed up with our parent company American Crafts this week to bring you projects that use BOTH Pebbles and American Crafts products. We'll be sharing lots of projects to show you not only how easy it is to mix these two manufacturers but also just how fun it can be as well. So sit back and get ready to be inspired!

Design team member Anna Sigga created this adorable layout using a mix of products from American Crafts and Pebbles.  Just look at those photos!  Here's what Anna had to say ... "American Crafts and Pebbles products are so fun to mix.  Lots of soft vibrant colors and different textures that are almost meant to be.  I decided to mix two collections from Pebbles and one from American Crafts, and I love the result.  These three collections were just perfect for my 100% happy lil butterfly!"

"So many of the American Crafts and Pebbles papers and embellishments mix together so well! Some of my favorites are from the Hello Sunshine, Happy Go Lucky, and Ever After lines! I decided to mix these lines up a bit and create some dinosaurs for my son Ty's room. He has wanted to hang some dinosaurs on the wall for quite some time and this seemed like the perfect chance to get some done. I cut the Dinosaurs out using my Cricut and then added them to these frames. The title was also cut with my Cricut and layered on top of some Hello Sunshine tags. I love the simple, yet cute results! I also loved mounting them on the great kraft background papers of the Hello Sunshine line."
