Playtime projects

Hello MLS fans. Today we have some fun Playtime projects to share. This collection is so fun and can easily fit almost any theme you want to scrapbook. First Ilene is showing us how easy it is to create a perfect birthday package for someone special.

Ileneflower

Birthday Gift Set

IleneGiftSet

Gift Bag
Supplies:
Paper, Stickers, Die-Cuts: My Little Shoebox
Die: Cottage Cuts/My Little Shoebox
Kraft Bag: Celebrate (Michael's)
Ink: Tsukineko
Glossy Accents: Ranger Industries
Other: measuring tape ribbon
Ilene's Tip: I bought the kraft gift bag at Michael's - it came in a pack of 13 for $6 and after using my 50% off coupon, it came out to be less than a quarter per bag. This is an extremely cheap way to make very cute gift bags and it adds a nice personal touch....not to mention that they're fun to make!

Tip: To create the tree, I used my Cottage Cuts/ My Little Shoebox die from the Playtime line to cut out the tree trunk. Then, I used one of the die-cut 3-D roll up flowers to make the top of the tree. First, ink the edges, then put some low-profile pop dots or foam dots in the center of the die-cut and glue it down, so the edges are flat on the paper, while the center comes up a little. This is a really quick way to create a dimensional tree!

Cards with Nicole

Hello MLS fans! We hope you had an amazing Thanksgiving holiday weekend with your families. It's a brand new week here at the MLS blog and we've got some great projects to share with you. To kick off the week, we're sharing some lovely cards created by designer Nicole Wragge using our Enchanted Garden collection.

Nicoleflower

Thanks

IMG_6373

THANKS: The stickers in the line are just beautiful and I wanted to make my own patterned paper featuring them. I cut a 4 x 5.5 inch piece of the "Graceful" paper and placed a flower sticker in the center, then worked my way around. I then trimmed the excess off and added the journal tag. The Glazed Alphas really make this card pop without adding a ton of bulk!
Supplies:
MLS Enchanted Garden Papers
MLS Whoopie Pies Glazed Alphas
Ranger Vintage Photo Distress Ink
Medium Zots
Scrapbook Adhesives Crafty Power Tape

A Simple Thanks: This card is just a quick, simple way to say thank you! I trimmed the bottoms of the flags from the MLS Die Cuts sheet and used the flowers stickers to complete the potted plants. I added the Mini Alphas {Blue Jeans, Chiffon and Blush} as the tops of the pots, then popped the flowers using the 3D Zots.
Supplies:
MLS Enchanted Garden Papers
MLS Stickers
MLS Die Cuts
MLS Mini Alphas {Blue Jeans, Chiffon, Blush}
Ranger Vintage Photo Distress Ink
3D Zots
Scrapbook Adhesives Crafty Power Tape
Thanks for your time

Thanks for your Time: For this card I wanted the blue flower from the MLS Sticker sheet to be the focus. I placed it on some white card stock, trimmed it and the used 3D Zots to raise the flower. I stamped the Magenta Clock Stamp image on the pink ledger paper and then centered the flower in the middle. I added the Recollections Rhinestone Sticker pieces underneath the flower to add a little bling!

LOVE GROWS: This card was inspired by a packet of seeds I saw at the checkout stand, it reminded me of my grandmother's garden in the spring just after she plants her flowers. The bright and happy paper with all the flowers designs were so much fun to play with!

Enchanted Garden layouts

Hello MLS fans! For many people the day before Thanksgiving is a big travel day. Everything is so busy! I never go shopping til the day before and it's always chaotic in the market. You think after all these years I'd wise up and shop earlier. If you are headed to the market or traveling to see family this Thanksgiving, please be careful out there.

Now for today we are sharing some lovely layouts by designer Linda Kretz with our Garden Party collection.

Lindaflower

Linda lo1

Supplies:  My Little Shoebox Enchanted Garden  11556 and 11552; the Circle Pattern 11558 and Cardboard stickers 11559; rosettes ribbon, and Stardust stickles.

Linda's Tip: I cut edge pieces from a second Circle Pattern, and embellished with the rosette ribbon.  Pop dots gave dimension to the layout.

LO3 Linda Oct

Supplies:  My Little Shoebox papers 11556, 11554, banners from 11551; Cardboard stickers 11559; Licorice Alphabet Stickers; Liquid Pearl, Prima pearl swirls, Diamond Stickles, and stamp Unities Enchanted Garden stamps.

Linda's Tip: I used the Unity stamps as a background for the sticker flowers, which gave it a different look.  I also doubled the banners to make them stand out, stickled the flowers; and used pop dots to add dimensions to parts of the layout.

Our Enchanted Garden collection is so versatile. Thanks to Linda for creating these wonderful layouts.

We know there are many beginner scrapbookers out there who stop by the blog and we'd love to hear from you. What technique would you like to see here on the MLS blog? We know getting started can be overwhelming at times so tell us your technique and we'll post a tutorial here just for you.

Have a creative day!

Project Friday

Hello MLS fans! Do we have a project for you today! Our very talented team member Melinda has created a unique and fun wreath using our patterned paper and twine. There's no denying twine is a hot trend right now and with so many colors available Melinda was able to match some to our Pretty Little Things collection.

Melindaflower

Floral Wreath project by Melinda Spinks

A look at the lovely twine.

Supply List:
Pretty Little Things 3D Roll Up Flowers (11521)
Foam ring
Aqua Baker's Twine
Aqua Gingham Ribbon
Martha Stewart Leaf Punch

Designer's tip: You don't always need to spend a fortune creating projects as it's amazing what you can find around the house to re-use and re-cycle. I found a foam ring amongst my daughter's science project stash (I actually think it was supposed to be a planet ring) and thought it would be perfect for making a pretty floral wreath for her door. The new 3D Roll Up Flower sheets are fabulous and you can get so many floral arrangements from just one sheet. I only used half the sheet on this wreath and punched the leaves from the banner pieces on the the same sheet.
Well that's a wrap on another week of creativity here at the blog. We hope you enjoyed this week's posts. If there is any techniques or video how to's you'd like to see here on the blog please leave a comment and we'll do our best to make it happen.
We'll be back Monday with our Winter Wonderland Card hop and a chance for you to win this beautiful collection!

Have a creative weekend!

Product Spotlight: The Scrapping Cottage

Index

Hello MLS fans! It's Thursday and we are pleased to be spotlighting The Scrapping Cottage all month long. We are so pleased to have partnered with The Scrapping Cottage to bring you high quality dies to coordinate with our My Little Shoebox collections.

Today we're featuring work with the co-branded dies from The Scrapping Cottage design team. Let's start with our very own

Pearl Liu

PearlSC

Pearl's tip: On of my favorite techniques using Cottage Cutz MLSB designed dies is to diecut with patterned paper - and this card is one such example . I used the following Cottage Cutz MLSB dies - leaves from the Ornate Circle frame ,  Orchid Flower; the oval frame from the Cameo and Oval Frame die set.  Finally , I added a little feathery boa to the flower set for a fun, wispy touch.

Lorie Souther

LorieSC

Lorie's tip:  My tip or technique would be using white card stock and coloring the die cuts with Copic markers, rather than using the colored card stock.

Gini Williams Cagle

Ginni made with love1

Gini made with love open

Gini's tip: try creating cards like a is a Z-fold card., this is a really easy folded card to make (especially if you are using your Scor-pal.

Janice Wilson

Janice mylittleshoebox

Janice's notes: I cut all the die cuts with white cardstock and then colored with my copics, with the exception of the scissors.  I used a Creative Memories silver pen to color the scissor blades.

When you're creating layouts do you like to draw out sketches and plan your pages or do you just let your creativity be your guide? Let's see what our girls created but first a look at Becky's layout with her own handmade embellishments.

Tuesday Tutorial with Becky

Tuesday Tutorial

Hello MLS fans! One of my favorite things to do while scrapbooking is to make my own embellishments.  Sure, most collections come with coordinating embellishments but it's so much fun to make your own! I'm going to show you how to quickly and easily create some layered dimensional elements that are quite popular these days!
Materials needed: patterned paper, adhesive, staples or glue, string or other embellishment, your favorite paper punch.
1. Gather materials and then use your favorite punch to create several of each size for each embellishment you will make. I chose a butterfly because they're my favorite!
Butterflytutorial1

2.  I knew I'd be making 3 butterflies with 3 pieces each so I simply punched butterflies from different sheets of MLS paper and layered them. Punch as many as you will need in a variety of colors and/or sizes.  Glue the butterflies together in the center with a strong glue or with staples.

Butterflytutorial2

Butterflytutorial3

3. Once the glue or staple is set you can "fluff up" the layers to give them more dimension.

4. You can keep the staples visible or cover the center of the shapes with string or other desired product (rhinestones, pearls, twine, etc.)  and then adhere to your card, layout or other project.

Butterflytutorial4

Have fun and be sure to share the link to your project if you create some of these!

Thanks so much for stopping by the My Little Shoebox blog today!

Trick or Treat Tuesday

Hello MLS fans! It's been a week since Halloween and you've probably taken lots of photos of your trick or treaters and Halloween memories that you're ready to scrap. Well, it just so happens that we still have some fun ideas to share with you.

Halloween memories are perfect for saving in a mini album and I happened to have a fun mini from Making Memories tucked away in my scrap stash perfect for my assignment this month.

Using our Trick or Treat collection, our Unity Co-branded stamps and matching Cottage Cutz dies from Scrapping Cottage here's what I created.

Shemaine's Notes: I must admit that I have always looked at mini albums as exhausting because of the pressure to create multiple pages quickly. For me a layout is so much easier because it's only one page. So...I decided to look at this mini as one mini layout page at a time and I spent a few days to take my time to create each one and adding additional items that have been in my stash year after year like the cupcake stick on the cover. I realized that by changing my thinking towards this project I was able to create a fun keepsake for my kids.

And sharing some layout inspiration with you today is Norine Borys who has a few ideas for some Halloween layouts.

Supplies used: Scaredy Cat - 11532, Itsy Bitsy Spider - 11538, Monster Crossing - 11533, Sunrise alpha minis - 08412, Cornmeal glitter stickers - 10119, 3D rolled-up flowers - 11531, Bazzill cs, Prima pearls, Cardworks Candi paper brads, SEI buttons.

Norine's notes: For this layout, I played with a Zig embossing pen and embossing powder by drawing over all the webbing and heat embossing the lines.  I love how it makes the web design pop!  More 3D roll-up flowers make for a very pretty Halloween layout!

Supplies used: Starry Night - 11535, Batty For You - 11536, Monster Crossing - 11533, 3D roll-up flowers - 11531, Blackberry mini alphas - 08409, Black Diamond glitter alphabets - 10113, Cardworks Candi paper brads, Crate Paper ribbon.

Norine's Notes: For this layout it was fun to leave the 3D roll-up flowers flat and use them as an embellishment that way.  To emphasize the roll, I inked the edges all the way to the center.

That's it for the Trick or Treat inspiration today. Have a creative day!
