Tutorial Tuesday with Susan

Today Design Team member Susan Dupre has a fun flower tutorial to share with you! We hope you'll find this tutorial easy to try a home!

SusanDupre_IdPickYouCard

What you will need

Tutorial1

Use any size circle punch that you wish.  I used one that was 1 1/8" - making my flowers about 1 1/2" high

Tutorial2

Tutorial3

Fold each punched circle in half, but be sure not to crease it.  Using a Tim Holtz "Tiny Attacher" staple the very ends of the the circles together.

Holding the stapled end, spread out each of the circles.

Tutorial5

Now punch two more circles using "Farmers Market / Berkeley (back side)".  This will be you flower base (bud) and your leaf.  Cut one of your circles in half which will form the leaf for your flower.

Using the "Tiny Attacher" staple the end of one circle together.

Tutorial6

Next fold out the edges of the green stapled paper as shown in the photo.

Tutorial7

Take your punched circle that you cut in half and staple the bottom of that together as well.

Tutorial8

Using any quick drying glue, add plenty to the inside of the flower base.  Insert your three petal flower and hold until dry.  Glue your leaf now to the stem of the flower and hold until dry.

You can add a button or any other embellishment you like to finish off your flower.  This is how your flower should turn out.

Tutorial10_Flower

Thanks for making the My Little Shoebox blog a part of your day!

Tutorial Tuesday with Aphra

    Aphra's Layered Flower Tutorial

Aphra_Dec 3 Tutorial 9

First, gather your supplies.  For my flower I used Harmony All Natural Paper, Harmony Cardstock Stickers, Pearls, pop dots, glue dots, scissors, 1" circle punch, and a scrap piece of cardboard.

  Aphra_Dec 3 Tutorial
Use your scrap cardboard to create a petal template.  Mine is about 1 1/2".  Don't worry if it isn't perfectly symmetrical; you'll never notice.

Aphra_Dec 3 Tutorial 2

Cut out ten solid petals.  Then, fold five of them in half and cut out the center.

Aphra_Dec 3 Tutorial 3

Aphra_Dec 3 Tutorial 4

Cut out five more solid petals and trim them up a bit so they are slightly thinner than the others.  You should have fifteen petals.

Aphra_Dec 3 Tutorial 5

Punch out a 1" circle and use glue dots to adhere the five larger solid petals around it.

Aphra_Dec 3 Tutorial 6

Now use dimensional glue dots to attach the next two layers:  the hollow petals and the slender petals.

Aphra_Dec 3 Tutorial 7
Aphra_Dec 3 Tutorial 8

To finish off the center, use a foam dot to add the scalloped circle sticker and an orange flower sticker.  Add a pearl flower and you're done.  Well, almost.  Add your lovely layered flower to your project and admire!

Welcome February's Guest Designer Becky Novacek

We're back from CHA and excited to introduce our February Guest Designer

Becky Novak

Becky Novacek

Bio:

She was always drawn to paper and photos, so when Becky Novacek was first exposed to scrapbooking, she was hooked. In 2004, life changed and paper crafts became much more than a hobby, it became a daily creative endeavor. Although life has changed yet again, and now photography plays an important role in her life, she still finds time to scrapbook and play with paper. Becky has been published in BHG Scrapbooks Etc, Creating Keepsakes, Scrapbook Trends, Memory Makers, Cards, Legacy, Somerset and back in the day, Autumn Leaves Books. Currently, Becky serves on the design teams for Jenni Bowlin and Fiskars, and is honored to be guest designing this month for My Little Shoebox.

Becky lives in Fremont, Nebraska with her husband Tom. They have 4 grown, married children and 8 grandchildren. She enjoys photography, paper crafts, flea marketing, reading, lunching with friends and spending Sunday afternoons in the summer around the pool with her whole family.

Here's a beautiful shadow box project Becky created with our Summer Breeze collection

Pure of heart shadowbox

And a close up of the inside

Shadow box detail

We are so excited to have Becky joining us this month. Check back every Thursday this month to see more of Becky's beautiful work and be sure and visit her amazing photography blog.
