Home decor with Oasis

Hello MLS fans!! Today we pleased to share some Oasis inspiration from designer Ro Philippsen. The Oasis collection is beautiful mix of spring colors and Asian flair. What we love most about this collection is that while it does have an Asian feel, it's easy to create many different themed projects and layouts using Oasis. A fan favorite are the cardstock stickers that coordinate with this collection.

Ro has created a beautiful family home decor project for you today.

Oasis Project - May - Ro Philippsen_1

Oasis Project - May - Ro Philippsen_2

Oasis Project - May - Ro Philippsen_3

Designer Tip: On this project I wanted to create a window, which represent the window of my soul, where I lay in the people I love.
I used hinges, so that windows can actually move like real windows! Loved doing this project with the lovely collection "oasis".

Oasis Project - May - Ro Philippsen_4

Love that beautiful cherry blossom tree in the center. It really symbolizes this family's bond. Such a beautiful idea Ro!

Oasis Layout - May - Ro Philippsen

Designer Tip: Layout:In those tags I used several layers of paper, which made the page very interesting. Also mixed cardboard with acrylic paint.

Ro Philippsen lives in Brazil with her family and teaches classes at her local scrapbook stores. for more information on Ro's classes visit her design blog.

Now before we sign off for Wednesday how about another Sneak peek of what's to come!

Tuesday Tutorial with Becky

Hello MLS fans! It's Tuesday and time for another fabulous tutorial from our design team. Today Becky Williams has a tip to share with you so take it away Becky...

Hello! Today I'm going to share with you something I do on just about every one of my layouts and cards. It's one of my favorite things to do, but something quite quick and easy- doodling. All it takes is a few minutes and an ink pen and it can add great detail to your project.
I enjoy doing faux stitching on a page either a running stitch or in a line that goes around the page. For me it's so much easier than fighting with my sewing machine! The fun thing about doodling is that it doesn't have to be perfect so don't worry too much if your lines aren't straight or perfectly spaced. Just have fun with it!
Beckytutorial1

You can add doodling around your pictures, around the edge of your layout or card or even on the embellishments. You can doodle on anything and any way you want to- faux stitching, zigzags, swirly lines, whatever you like!
Beckytutorial2
Beckytutorial3

Thanks for stopping by the blog today.
If you try out doodling on one of your MLS projects make sure to post it on our Facebook page so that we can see it!

In the Garden with Zoe

Hello MLS fans! Thanks for the huge buzz all of you generated with out sneak peek yesterday. We are so excited that you are looking forward to our summer collections! We are only 12 fans away from reaching our 4000 fan goal and then someone will win our Playtime collection before you can even buy it in the stores!!

Today we're getting into our Garden Party collection with inspiration from designer Zoe Nemburt. Zoe has created some beautiful layouts to share with you today.

My Sweet Fashionista

Zoe N - Garden Party - May - Layout

Designer's tip: I love the Journaling die cuts that come with each collection, I used almost a whole pack on this layout, they look great, peeking out from between the layers.

Spring is Here

Zoe N - Garden Party - May - Layout 3

Designer's Tip:  I love die cuts and My little Shoebox seriously has the best die cuts on the market, and you can use them in 1001 different ways but for this layout I layered the “cut off” portion over the die cut on the layout for a pretty cool layered look.

Our Sweetie Girl

  Zoe N - Garden Party - May Layout 2

Designer's Tip:  Creating Grid layouts is a new favourite thing for me to do, I love layers and you can create your own mini pictures within the layout, layer the grids on a contrasting cardstock to make them pop.

Finally we're finishing off today's post with a sweet Thank you card that Zoe created

Zoe N - Garden Party - May - Card
Designer's Tip: I love to add dimension to cards and this is super simple to achieve even with a small simple card like this one, I added foam squares behind the flower, and tied some sweet bakers twine to add the dimension and interest to this card.

A big thanks to Zoe for these amazing creations and a big MLS thanks to you, our blog readers and fans! We love your enthusiasm and support. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting us!

Oh..and we just might have some more sneak peeks and prizes in the coming days...so watch for them here and on our Facebook page.

Thanks for stopping by!

Tuesday Tutorial with Rocio

Good Morning MLS fans! It's time for another Tuesday Tutorial from our talented designers. Today Rocio Duran is sharing a perfect tutorial for summer!

Pinwheel Tutorial by Rocio Duran

With summer just around the corner, this pinwheel tutorial will help you find the perfect decorations for a summer party.  They are so easy to create that you can just watch TV and make as many as needed in a short amount of time.  Using the wonderful Garden Party line to create bright summer inspired pinwheels.

First, cut a square paper
, I used a 4”x4”.

   Pinwheel1

Then cut diagonally on each corner towards the middle but stopping short as seen in the photo above.  It creates 4 triangles.

   Pinwheel2

Fold one corner of each triangle ensuring that it’s always the same side of each triangle as seen above, the right side it folded towards the center.  Staple the center to hold it all together.

   Pinwheel3

Once all corners are folded the pinwheel is formed.  If you want to use it on a layout you can leave it there, but if you want it to be functional continue with the following steps

   Pinwheel4

Pierce thru the center of the pinwheel.

 Pinwheel5

Using a short pin mark the wooden stick as seen above.  Then thru the pierced center of the pinwheel  so that the pinwheel is attached to the wooden stick and it will rotate with the wind.

  Pinwheel6

Once you attach it to the wooden stick you can embellish the center as seen.

Now go and enjoy creating beautiful pinwheels.

 Have a great day!

Cards and more with Garden Party

Hello MLS fans! We hope you had a great weekend! We're excited to be starting another week of My Little Shoebox inspiration here at our blog. We've given Keely our Garden Party collection to create with and she made some super cute projects to share with you today.

First we have a gift bag and card set

KYowlerMLSGardenPartyGiftBagCard

Love the faux stitching (no sewing required just black pen)

KYowlerMLSThanksCard
Next Keely created this adorable card with our Garden Party clear stamps and coordinating paper.

KYowlerMLSHelloCard

This beautiful hello card has such an old fashioned feel. The rose is just stunning on this card. If you love it too, Keely has some step by step instructions below for re-creating your own flowers.

When creating these fun flowers, I find that a flower with 8 petals works best, but you can also adapt the design to work with other flower diecuts. No diecuts? Try drawing your own 8 petal flower. Art isn't meant to be perfect :)
(Insert pic 1)
1. Cut 5 diecut flowers. I cut these 2 1/2" each. Just remember, the bigger the diecuts, the bigger your final flowers. My diecuts have the center cut out, but you can use solid flowers.
(Insert pic 2)
2. Cut one petal from the first flower, two petals from the second flower, three petals from the third flower, four flowers from the fourth flower, and five petals from the fifth flower.
(Insert pic 3)
3. Use a quick drying glue (I like Zip Dry) or a hot glue gun to glue each flower into a ring. If your flowers are solid, they will form a cone. Snip off the the tip of the cones, so your flowers will lie flat.
(Insert pic 4)
 4. Adhere the layers to form your flower. I like to ink around each layer for shading. These are also beautiful lightly painted with glue and sprinkled with glitter. Just perfect for your Summer projects.

Finally, Keely is sharing this beautiful layout

KYowlerMLSBlendingTogether
Love that little bee buzzing by above the photo. This is a beautiful family photo and Keely, you look amazing!

Thanks for sharing your beautiful work and the flower tip with us today! We hope you are inspired to create with our Garden Party collections today! Remember to share them with us on our Facebook page here.

Have a great day!

Let's give a warm welcome to June's Guest Designer!

Web

Vicki Boutin

Hello MLS fans! We are so pleased to welcome Vicki as our June Guest Designer. For those that don't know Vicki, here's a little bit about this talented lady.

Vicki has loved making pretty things since she was a little girl.  With a background in fine arts and graphic design she was always searching for a creative outlet that was a good fit.  She finally found it in the world of paper crafting after the birth of her first child 10 years ago.  She hasn’t looked back since!

In 2006 Vicki became a Creating Keepsakes Hall of Fame winner and went on to be part of Better Homes and Gardens Scrapbooks Etc’s Creative Team.  Her work is currently published in Scrapbooks, Etc and Vicki writes a quarterly article for Scrapbooks and Cards, Today magazine.  She enjoys working closely with a number of the industry’s top manufacturers including Sassafras, 7 Gypsies, Basic Grey, Little Yellow Bicycle and Pink Paislee.  Vicki is also a Ranger Certified instructor.

Vicki is always on a mission to learn something new and then find a way to share it!  That is where teaching comes in.  She has taught workshops in the United States, Canada and Europe and loves to approach art in a fun, fresh and accessible way.  Her motto is “Try anything once.  You won’t know if it’s your style unless you try it!”  Her workshops offer an opportunity to meet new friends, try new things and most of all have FUN!!!

Vicki is currently writing her first technique based book called Creative Foundations which will be available in December 2011. You can follow Vicki on her blog: vickiboutin.typepad.com

We gave Vicki some of our collections to create with and she has some cute layouts to show you today.

Farmer's Market inspiration

Hello MLS fans! Today we have some fantastic projects to share with you from design team member Nicole Wragge! She's creating with our Farmers Market collection today.

What's on your plate

IMG_2162_2

Designer tip: I was at a women's luncheon last month and their was this charming guest speaker who asked us all to consider what we have on our plate. Well, sadly I missed the rest of what she had to say because I immediately starting planning out this layout! The scallop paper made for a nice  place mat and with the help of some Chalkboard Glimmer Mist, the Tutti Frutti paper rolled up nicely to resemble a colorful napkin. All the little things on my plate came from one of my many "lists" but I have to say seeing all the things I need to do dressed up in pretty cardstock stickers and mini alphas make me smile!

Nicole's layout is a perfect example of how we can find inspiration in our everyday life and events.

This girl can eat

IMG_2234_2

Designer's tip: When I look at this line there is one thing that stands out, those darling fruit stands! I wanted to create one just a tad bit bigger to go with this photo of Avery thoroughly enjoying her lunch. I used one of the squares off of the Fresh from the Field paper as my journaling tag and then used Claudine Hellmuth's Sticky Back Canvas & Glossy Accents to create the awning of the fruit stand. The open sign was made with the minis, Cherries Jubilee & Sweet Pea paper scraps and red & white baker's twine.

Now for our card maker fans, a few fun card ideas

IMG_2237

Designer tip: Use a corner rounder to create a different look for your cards. Don't be afraid to stack and create movement with our mini alphas.

Nicole1

Designer tip: Backgrounds don't always have to be images. Wall paper your background with sentiment stamps too!

Nicole shows us that the Farmers Market collection can easily be used to create a cute Happy Halloween card. We love the dimension of that pumpkin.

Thanks to Nicole for her fun projects today!

Now it's time to announce the winner of our sketch challenge! Drum roll please....

Angela Simonet

Congratulations! Thanks to everyone for creating with us! We really love seeing your work.

Some fun looks at City by the Bay

Hello MLS fans! We hope you had a great weekend! We're kicking off another week of creativity at the MLS blog with some great projects from Linda and Melinda today that they created with our City by the Bay collection.

First, here's a fun banner from Linda!

Linda 1

There are so many fun details that Linda used for her banner.

Project2 Linda

This rosette is beautiful and perfect!

Project3 Linda

Love the way the houses are cut out and mounted on the clouds here. One of the best things about patterned paper is that often you can cut the images out and use them exactly the way Linda has used the houses from our Marina paper. Get out those scissors friends and cut away!

Project4 Linda

The hand cut mini banners stapled on the string of this banner is also fun!

Project5 Linda

Paper folding is a fun technique to use when you don't have matching ribbon on hand. Paired with the lace makes for a vintage feel here.

Now we have some fun cards from Melinda. She created 4 different looks with scraps of the same paper.

Designer tip: I decided to create a matching set and really showcase each side of the patterned papers and the wonderful way in which every colour blends beautifully. I kept the theme continuous throughout the cards with the same scalloped border pattern and added a sweet touch with a bow of baker's twine.

Now for some really fun cards that Melinda created with her Cricut

Love how Melinda used the glitter alpha's here. They don't always have to be used for sentiments and titles.

Designer's tip:
The first two cards with the m'n'm bubbles are a fun way to make little boy cards using a not-so-little boy collection and add a bit of chocky which most little boys love. My five year old has been playing with the cards and loves to come and shake them to hear the m'n'm's rattle away in their container. Fortunately he's not a big fan of chocolate so they've remained in tact. I combined City By The Bay papers using the flip sides and the Cricut cartridge 'Boys Will Be Boys' for the rocket and helicopter. All in all they were a fun and bright way to make cards for any little chap that will keep him entertained for quite some time in working out how to get to the treat.

Thanks to our designers for creating some fun projects to share with today! We thank you for stopping by our blog today. We really enjoy creating fun projects to give you ideas for creating with our collections. Be sure and share your work with us at our Facebook page.

Sew Cute with Becky and some news...

Hello MLS fans! Today we are sharing some designs from designer Becky Williams. Becky is creating with Sew Cute this month and she's created 3 wonderful layouts for you.

Pretty Little Sunshine Girls

Lo1beckyw

Supplies:
Sew Cute Collection: Nothing But Buttons paper, In Stitches paper, Handmade paper, Journaling diecuts, cardstock stickers.
Glitter Alphabet Stickers: Toffee, Oregano, Carnation
Mini Alphabet Stickers: Seaside
Other: foam adhesive, pen for faux stitching/doodling, Prima pearls, staples.
Designer Note: One of my favorite parts of the MLS collections is the diecuts. You can either use them the way they are or cut them to suit your needs and style. To create the sun on this page I cut out the cloud shape from one of the diecuts and used another diecut for the sun. I cut pieces of the "In Stitches" paper to make the sun rays and added some foam adhesive and doodling for added visual interest.

Real Cowgirl Boots

Lo2beckyw

Supplies:
Sew Cute Collection: 100% Cotton paper, Made with Love paper, journaling diecuts, cardstock stickers.

Clean and simple scrapbooking with Home Tweet Home

Hello MLS fans! It's June 1st and we're kicking off a new month of inspiration from our design team. Today designer Shemaine Smith is creating with Home Tweet Home and sharing some layout inspiration and a couple of tricks you can use to add interest to your pages.

She loves dad

Shemainelo1

"My daughter can be a bit difficult to photograph these days. Sometimes the best photos can be ones where the subject isn't looking like the top photo of my daughter. I based my title on her expression as she's looking at her dad."

Easter

Shemainelo2a

I love layering and matting paper. Bird house is my favorite sheet of paper from this collection so I knew it would make a great background. I matted it with a similar color solid cardstock to make the pattern pop and then layered it with pink double dot Bazzill. I also used my Cricut to cut the basket and then layered the coordinating cardstock stickers with pop dots. I also used the mini alphas to document the year and nestled them in the flowers.

My two kids

Shemainelo3

With this layout I wanted to show that you can use a pattern as your base and layer solid cardstock to create your layout. Choose your solid colors by pulling some of the color out of the patterned cardstock like I did here with the orange. To add interest I added a 3 dimensional element by cutting out one of the trees and layering with pop dots. I did so with the clouds too.

Thanks to Shemaine for sharing her work with us today. We hope you'll give some of her tips a try with your next layout. As always we love seeing what you create with My Little Shoebox so be sure and post your work to our Facebook wall. You never know when you'll be spotted for our monthly newsletter!

We'll be announcing the winners of our Farmers Market contest later today so stay tuned for that post!

Have a great day!
