Hello MLS fans! This month has been so busy with new releases and CHA it's seems like July just flew by! Imaginisce swapped some of their fabulous product with our team and the girls wasted no time in creating some amazing things with them. Take a look at how easily Imaginisce's products mixed with our collections...

Keely also had fun accenting her layout with the glam rocks.

Nicole Wragge

More journaling ideas!

Hello MLS fans! We've got another day of journaling inspiration for you! Today we're sharing a few hidden journaling samples from Pearl and Rocio and a fantastic mini album by Melinda. First a look at Pearl's hidden journaling idea.

My Little Shoebox Sew Cute

June's tip: Use tags and journaling punch outs for hidden journaling as they are easily concealed behind your photos.

here's a closer look at the hidden tag journaling

Pearl layout1 clup1 jun2011

Here's Rocio's take on hidden journaling also using our Sew Cute collection.

My Little Shoebox Sew Cute

Rocio's Tip: Use patterned paper to create a small sleeve for your journaling tags to easily slip into that way you don't have to worry about them getting stuck in your adhesive.

A mini album is a great way to share more than a few lines of journaling as Melinda shows us now

My Little Shoebox
Melinda - HTH - June - Love Letters Mini page1

See the way Melinda used the picture to fill the page and then added journaling on the opposite page. She has plenty of room to tell her story and after reading her beautiful words, this will be a project her daughter will cherish. When we create projects like these we leave a piece of ourselves to those who receive them.

My Little Shoebox

My Little Shoebox

All the girls projects featured the following fun products from Imaginisce: I-rock and glam rocks and fashion fabric flowers. Thanks to Imaginisce for swapping goodies with us! Word is they are having Christmas in July over on the Imaginisce blog and you have a chance to snag an early gift for yourself so head on over there and leave a comment telling them MLS sent you on each post this week! Good Luck!

Have a great day!

Tuesday Tutorial with Linda

Hello MLS fans! It's time for another fabulous tutorial from one of our team members. Today we have Linda joining us to share a fun ribbon technique with you.

Ribbon Ruching by Linda Kretz

Use a piece of ribbon that is 5/8 or larger for the best result.  The ribbon should be about 2 and 1/2 times the size of the project.  The first step is to mark the ribbon on both sides in one-inch increments.  Use a running stitch between the marked points.  I used a contrasting color for demonstration purposes, but matching thread is also nice!

This shows the extended stitching for the length of the ribbon.  Please make sure your thread is one length for the entire ribbon - do not use shorter lengths, as it will end up uneven in appearance.

Once you have finished stitching, begin gently pulling the thread from each end, which will begin the process of gathering the ribbon.  It can be a loose look, or you can pull it tighter for a more compact look.  Once you have the desired look and length, tale a couple of stitches at each end, and loop into a knot.

The finished rushed ribbon is now ready to be used on a card, layout, or  project in many ways.  Happy embellishing!!!

We're back from the show!

Hello MLS fans! We're back from CHA and ready to start creating with the new releases! It was so fun to meet so many of you in Chicago! We saw some familiar faces and met some new ones. We enjoyed our class, walked the showroom floor oogling over innovative products. We found ourselves spying all the trends and indulged on ourselves with Chicago's famous pizza! We'll be sharing some pics all week long but first we're kicking off something fun!

All this week on the My Little Shoebox blog we are going to focus on journaling. So many times as scrapbookers we choose our photos, favorite paper, embellies and create our layouts but don't really tell the story of the photos. For many of us the purpose of scrapbooking is to record our memories so we can someday reminisce over them with our friends and family.

Many scrapbookers say they don't journal because they are afraid to put their thoughts out there for everyone to read, or they don't like their handwriting or just don't know what to journal.

So... this week our design team has come up with some fun ways to help you expand your journaling skills and take the leap!

Let's start with Beckie Dreyer and the importance of journaling with your own handwriting.

My Little Shoebox Oasis

Beckie's tip:
I have a small piece of white card on my craft desk and on it is written 'Milk, Bread and flour', nothing much I know but you see it is one of my most treasured items as those words are written in my grans hand writing! So how ever much you don't like your handwriting, remember it will be so precious to some one in the future so get it on your layouts!!  :)

Becky Williams shares her tip using our mini alpha stickers

My Little Shoebox Garden Party
Becky's tip: One way to add emphasis to your journaling is to use the cute MLS mini alphabet stickers available in a rainbow of colors. Choose a few key words and spell them out with your favorite color of stickers or mix them up to add interest to your journaling.

Shemaine shares her love of printed fonts for journaling

My Little Shoebox City By The Bay
Shemaine tip: Yes it's true, I hate my own handwriting but thank goodness there are so many fabulous fonts avail free online! I simply choose the one that fits what I am sharing and print it out onto cardstock. Don't be afraid to try this on patterened paper too! Just be sure the print isn't too busy.

So that wraps up today's tips! We hope you'll join us for more tmr! In the mean time here's a few snaps of our fun at CHA!

DSC_0143
Miss Erin looking fab as always!

Helen and Norine

(do you spy some Audrey and Trick or Treat in the background)

We'd love to read your feedback about today's journaling tips so be sure and share your comments with us and share what techniques you like to use as well. We always enjoy your feedback!

Have a great day!

Hello from the Craft and Hobby Trade show

Hello MLS fans! We're coming to you from CHA in Rosemont. The show floor opened this morning at 10 a.m. with the traditional march of bagpipe players marching thru the isles. When the the doors opened we were happy to greet so many of our wonderful customers and share our new collections with them. Our Trick or Treat, Audrey and Enchanted Garden were the early favorites.

Here's the girls that were able to join us for the show sporting their handmade aprons with Claudine's Sticky back canvas! Each one of the girls worked with a different collection to make their aprons unique. We must admit that Norine's birdcage was absolutely stunning! We'll be sure and include a photo for you real soon.

The booth was really easy to set up for this show and we even have a fun Silhouette photo booth! Here's miss Helen trying it out first!

What's fun about the photo booth is that when you get home you can crop the image to look like a silhouette on a wall. I'm working off a laptop tonight so pardon the non cropped sample image (wink)

After a very full day we headed over to teach our latest at greatest class and what an amazing class it was!

Tuesday Tutorial with Norine

Hello MLS fans! It's time for another Tuesday Tutorial! Today we have designer Norine Borys showing you something fun so let's get to it!

Hi everyone, Norine here with the July tutorial.  What I'm going to show you today is not new, nor is it especially difficult.  It involves a little bit of fussy cutting but that's about as challenging as it gets!

I love My Little Shoebox stamps and their outline designs are particularly suitable for this kind of application.  Not to mention a wonderful way to use up the bits and scraps leftover after a layout or project.

Tute1NorineJuly

Start by using black Stazon ink, and stamp repeated images on a variety of different colors and patterns of MLS scraps.

Tute2NorineJuly

Using a pair of sharp tipped scissors, cut out the shapes, cutting along the outside of the thick stamped lines.

Tute3NorineJuly

When you have everything cut out, layer and assemble the pieces to form the complete image.  Feel free to re-arrange or add to the design.  Use a glue pen and tweezers to adhere the small pieces and complete a card or layout embellishment as desired!

Tute4NorineJuly

I'd love to see what you come up with using this as inspiration!!

Some Sew Cute multiple photo inspiration

Hello MLS fans! It's Friday! Any crafty plans for the weekend? You know you've got tons of pictures waiting to be scrapped in your "little shoeboxes" Why not get them out this weekend along with some MLS in your stash and have fun creating. If you need some layout ideas, Kristine Berc is going to help you out today with a tip for scrapbooking multiple photos.

  For the love of cake

Lo1kristine

Two page layouts are a great way to add multiple photos from a special event.

Lo1kristine-left

You can plan out your own page or use a sketch like Kristine did here.

Lo1kristine-right

Designer Tip: If you have several great photos from a special event, consider using them all on a balanced two-page layout.  If designing two-page layouts stumps you, use one of the fabulous PageMaps sketches, like I did!  Add some fun dimension by layering your Sew Cute die cuts with foam tape.

As Kristine mentioned, if you need some sketch inspiration to help get you started, our friend Becky Fleck has an amazing website called Page Maps where new sketch inspiration is added monthly. The July sketches were posted today! Our design team contributed to the layout and card gallery for June!

Have a fantastic weekend!
