Welcome Guest Blogger: Julie Bonner

JulieGuestflower

Hello everyone!!  My name is Julie Bonner & I am super excited to be today's guest blogger :)  I have been an avid scrapper for the past 5 years and primarily spend my creative time scrapping my 2 sweet sons, Nicholas & Ryan.  In addition to enjoying my evenings playing with paper, I also have spent the last few years creating numerous layout sketches for online stores, manufacturers, and my own website.  I have a slight obsession with layout design & LOVE coming up with new ways to organize photos, paper, and embellishments on a page.
Today I am going to share a layout I created featuring the charming & whimsical Playtime collection.  I recently took these pictures of my son Nicholas.  At just 8 months old, he is not quite ready to romp around with his older 4 year old brother Ryan :) While patiently watching and waiting to join in the fun, I snapped these photos of him.  For me, they just spoke of him wondering, "When is it my turn to play??".  I knew the bold colors & adorable graphics of the Playtime collection would be the perfect fit for these photos.

Dreamingofplaytime500

I thought the Playtime cardstock stickers were so cute & used them to embellish both circle elements on the page.  In this close up you can see the both the sun & cloud stickers.  To add some texture, I decided to emboss the clouds using my Cuttlebug & the Swiss Dots embossing folder.  By adhering the sticker to some cardstock beforehand it ran through the Cuttlebug super easy!!

Dreamingcu1

Although I love pre-made embellishments, it is always fun (and economical) to create your own.  In the close-up below I took one of the elements from the Playtime Daydream paper and cut it into a ribbon pennant shape.  Then I simply added a toothpick adhered with some glue dots behind & voila - instant embellishment!!

Dreamingcu2

I also created a sketch inspired from the layout for all of you . . .

Mlssketch500

The My Little Shoebox team would love for you to create a layout based on my sketch and link yours up here via Mr. Linky (see below). You have until midnight October 31st, Pacific time to share your take to be entered to win a MLS collection of your choice! Winner will be chosen at Random from all the layouts linked via Mr. Linky and announced on November 1st!

A BIG THANKS to Shemaine & My Little Shoebox for having me as today's guest blogger.  I hope you all find some time to play along with the sketch.

More Audrey with Melinda

Hello MLS fans! Hope you are having a great day so far! Today Melinda is sharing her work for this month with our Audrey collection. Melinda always adds  a lot of texture to her projects so I am sure we'll be delighted with what she has to share today. Let's take a look.

  Melindaflower

 Our Beautiful Cowgirl

Melinda - Aud - Layout

Products Used:

Audrey Sabrina Patterned Paper (11543)
Audrey Breakfast at Tiffany's Patterned Paper (11544)
Audrey Funny Face Patterned Paper (11545)
Audrey Love in the Afternoon Patterned Paper (11546)
Audrey Roman Holiday Patterned Paper (11547)
Audrey 3D Roll-Up Flowers (11541)
Sew Cute Carnation Glitter Alphabet Stickers (10121)
Fiskars Embossing Border Punch
Couture Creations Entangle Embossing Plate
Cricut Sentimentals Cartridge
Pebbles Chalks
Kaisercraft Rubons
Kaisercraft Pearls

Melinda's Tip: Audrey is such a fabulous collection for making a big statement that I wanted to keep the rest of the layout fairly muted and understated. A great way of adding just a subtle hint to your layout is to add border punch elements using the same paper as the background. I've also taken a similar approach with the layout title by using a similar colour alphabet sticker to the paper panel so that the title is visible yet soft and not overpowering.

Melinda - Aud - Layout Closeup 1

A close up of the beautiful rolled flowers

Melinda - Aud - Layout closeup 2

And another of the layered border punched paper

Melinda also created a beautiful card as well.

Melinda - AUD - Card

Supply List
Audrey - Sabrina patterned paper (11543)
Audrey - Cardstock Stickers (11549)
Audrey - 3D Roll-Up Flowers (11541)
American Crafts Ribbon
Kaisercraft Rubons
Twinklets Diamond Dust
Martha Stewart Leaf Punch

Melinda's Tip: I've used several pieces from the Audrey Cardstock Stickers on my card, however I needed to remove the adhesive from the back of each one because I needed to put pop dots under them to raise them up from each other. So a really quick and easy way to do this is to pour a little bit of baby powder on the back and rub it over the sticky area with your finger. The powder instantly takes away the adhesive and with a quick wipe down with a dry cloth you can add pop dots and they stick as per normal.
Thank you melinda for giving us these fun techniques to try! Tomorrow is the last day of our Punky Sprouts spotlight and we'll be sharing th rest of our teams albums so make sure you stop by for that!

Have a creative day!

2-Winter Wonderland-Sneak Peaks

A note from Helen about this collection: I created this playful winter collection with the hope that you'd enjoy scrapbooking your family's winter activities, holiday gatherings and memories. I know many of my scrapbooking fans also love to create their own holiday cards so I've included 6 different patterns that will work well for whatever theme you have in mind this year.

Look for our Winter Wonderland collection to arrive in stores in late October.

We'd love to hear what you think of this collection so be sure and leave a comment for Helen today. She loves hearing what her fans want to see next from My Little Shoebox.

Have a creative day!

Ilene shares some Pretty Little Things

Hello MLS fans! Is it Friday already? Wow did this week really fly by! We're sending you off this weekend with some adorable creations from designer Ilene that she made with our Pretty Little Things collection. Make sure you check out our next contest that will be at the end of today's post!

IMG_1555cr

Supplies: Paper, Die-cuts, stickers, letter stickers all MLS, lace is by Maya Road, Tsukineko ink, Martha Stewart Border Punch, EK Success flower punches, Liquid Enamel by Inksenntials for the white dots

Ilene's Tip: In order to make the most of your stickers or die-cut elements, it sometimes pays to adhere them to black cardstock and then cut out, as this really makes them pop. This also makes them more sturdy, which is wonderful when adhering them with pop dots or dressing them up (like I did here, by giving the little girl a hair bow). Also, when working with black and white photos, it really makes them stand out more to include a lot of white elements and accents on your layout.

ThankYouFriend

Supplies: Paper, Die-cuts, stickers, letter stickers all MLS, lace is by Maya Road, Tsukineko ink

Ilene's tip:

In order to make sure that your sentiment fits perfectly, adhere letters to cardstock first, then cut the words out, and then adhere to card.

A big thanks for the super cute layout and card today Ilene! We love that our designer's share their tips for our readers. We hope you find these helpful and inspiring!

Product Spotlight: Punky Sprouts

Hello MLS fans! It's another product spotlight Thursday and we're back with another look at some fantastic mini albums this month's product sponsor

Punkylogo

First up with Punky inspiration using our Pretty Little Things collection today is

Ileneflower

Ilenepunky

Supplies: Mini Album: Punky Sprouts, Paper, Die-cuts, stickers, letter stickers: MLS, lace: Maya Road, Prima Marketing, Flowers: Recollections, Martha Stewart, Prima Marketing, Glitter Glue: Ranger Industries, Rub-ons: Basic Grey, Paint is Gesso, Liquid Enamel: Inksenntials, Templates: Crafter's Workshop, Color Spray: Shimmerz, Flower Punches: Ek Success, Cloud die Cuts: Cottage Cuts, Leaf Die Cuts: Tim Holtz, Marker: Sharpie, Crackle Paint: Tim Holtz

Ilene's Tip: If you're working with clear acrylic, you can make a really fun background effect by dabbing white paint right onto the acrylic. And don't forget that you can paint the corrugated cardboard as well, after peeling off the top layer, for a pretty and very textured effect.

To see the rest of Ilene's album visit her blog. Next we have

Ro

Ropunky

Ro used the entire Enchanted Garden collection on her beautiful album. Be sure and visit Ro's blog for more of this beautifull album.

Now we get a peek at what Linda created

Lindaflower

Linda created her Punky album with the Audrey collection

  Lindapunky

Linda's tip: Audrey is a beautifully colored, feminine collection.  In each page of my album I used a lot of vintage lace, flowers and ribbon.  I also used some vintage paper tissue and pearls as accents. It's easy to glam up this collection with vintage accents.

Visit Linda's blog for a look at her entire album.

FlowerbadgeShemaine

Shemaine used the playtime collection for her punky album

Shemainepunky
Shemaine's Tips: When it comes to creating mini's I dig thru my stash for extras I haven't been able to use yet. I love mixing old product, adding some paint and making use of my stamps. For the canvas page I stamped the flower image from the Unity/MLS co banded Pretty Little Things set and colored in the flowers with Luminarte paints.

Thanks for stopping by to see more of these fun albums from our team. Tomorrow we have a new contest to announce!

Have a creative day!

Card inspiration Wednesday

Hello MLS fans. We know you've got lots of MLS scraps in your stash. We want to help you get out those scraps and create some cards. I must admit there are times I really do challenge myself to use up all my cardstock stickers and scraps and creating cards is an awesome way to do that! So here's some card inspiration from our team.

Norine small

Card1norine.jpg

Norine's notes: MLS journal paper makes it so easy to do a color block design.  I just cut a square of four journal spots and then made a card the same size.  I divided each square so they could be inked on the edges, and fit them back together.  Add some embellishments and you have a quick and easy card for pretty much any occasion!

Card2norine.jpg

Norine's Notes: I love to "pop" MLS stickers and an easy way to remove the "stick" on the back so they don't get stuck to anything else, is to apply your pop-dot, and before removing the 2nd paper backing, lightly powder with baby powder.  The excess brushes off easily and the remainder of the sticker is now sticky-free!

Supplies:

MLS Destination Paper Souvenir
MLS Destination Paper Happy Hour
MLS Destination Paper Postcard
MLS Destination Paper Sit Back and Relax
MLS Destination 3D Roll Up Flowers
MLS Cherry Pie Glitter Aplhabet Sticker

Beckie's Notes: My little tip here is to use the 'left overs' from the 3D Roll Up flowers to create more flowers but cutting around the outlines.  You could even glue them on to coloured papers for a different effect.

Thanks ladies for these beautiful cards and your wonderful tips! We hope you are inspired!

 Have a creative day!

It's a Boo-rific Monday!

Hello MLS fans. We hope you had all had a great weekend! It's the start of a new week and we want to know have you picked out your Halloween costumes yet? Does your family dress up as a theme or do you let everyone choose their own costume? If you're  not quite sure like me, maybe you'll be inspired by the cute little spooks in our Trick or Treat collection.

11530-Sneak Peek Icon(200dpi)

Today we're sharing some Boo-rific inspiration from Nicole and Pattie.

Nicoleflower

IMG_4771

Nicole's tip: This a is cute little Halloween card that came to life after eating about 100 candy corns. I wanted to get into the Halloween spirit and I guess you could call the bag of candy corns my inspiration! I just cut out a rounded-triangle like shape using an old manilla envelope and then took my scraps and layered them to resemble a candy corn. I did have to borrow a "B" side from one of the papers in the Destinations line but as it has been said before My Little Shoebox papers from different collections coordinate really well together! It was super easy and a nice way to use those itty bitty left over scrap pieces! A dear friend shared with my long ago to create layouts first and then use the leftovers for cards! It works and stretches those creative muscles a bit!

IMG_4772

Nicole's Tip: This layout is a picture of siblings being their goofy selves with 80's rock band hair! These three are quite the trio and when I saw the new Trick or Treat stickers featuring the spooky bat, the cute witch and the silly devil I knew that they would really bring this photo to life. I made the fence out of my daughters craft sticks and the google-y eyes added a silly touch to the spooky pumpkins. I cut the tree {free hand} and then distressed it with Ranger's Vintage Photo, then lined the edges with glossy accents which resulted in an orangish tent to the tree which coordinated with the rest of the line. Again, such a treat to play with Trick or Treat!

Designer Tip: I'll be the first to admit that I tend to avoid using mini-albums.  I think it might have something to do with my perfectionistic need for my albums to all be the same size, shape, style, etc.  But, I really wanted to have a try at the super cool Punky Sprouts products that I received, and boy am I glad I did!  I got to work with the Punky Sprouts "Trunk Punky" album, some of their trim, and some of their roll-up flowers.  As you can see, I went a different direction and used the products to make myself a much-needed notebook!  I'm always searching for paper to jot down phone numbers, reminders about work, DT assignments, and so on.  Well now I have a 75-page custom notebook in my favorite color combination sitting on my desk :)  Because I wanted my notebook to be pretty and practical, instead of just pretty, I kept the inside simple and designated the dimensional elements to the front cover.  I used my binding machine to assemble the finished notebook.  I hope I've encouraged you to think outside the box... mini-albums are not just for photos!

Enchanted Garden with Kris

Hello MLS fans! We have been looking over all the fabulous entries we received for our "Your layout could be our Ad challenge". Thanks to all who submitted their creative creations! We are narrowing down the entries to choose our winner very soon. Don't worry, we'll be posting the winner's name here on our blog his Friday!

Krisflower

Today Kris is sharing some beautiful designs she created with our Enchanted Garden collection.

Other products used:

border punches

Designer Tip: I really wanted this photo of my daughter to shine.  Since it has a lot of bright blue on its background, I avoided using any of the blue papers and instead layered several of the beautiful, soft green and pink papers.  That in itself really made the photo stand out.  Still, there wasn't enough "wow" for me, so I made a quick visit to my ribbon stash.  By adding a layer of blue trim topped with a blue triple bow, I was able to achieve color balance and make the photo "pop".

Other products used

Designer Tip: I always try to use an odd number of items in my embellishment clusters.  For some reason, an odd number of items (3, 5, 7, etc.) seems to be more pleasing to the eye than an even number.  Have you ever noticed that appetizers in restaurants tend to come in sets of odd numbers (i.e., 5 cheese sticks)?  Following this rule, my card includes an odd number of flowers.  Give it a try!

Join us tomorrow as we share more of the fabulous Punky alterable mini's our designers created with this month's product sponsor Punky Sprouts.

Video Tuesday Tutorial

Product Spotlight: Punky Sprouts

Punkysprouts

We kicked off September with an introduction to our product sponsor, Punky Sprouts and a fun pumpkin album by Nicole Wragge. All this month our design team is sharing some really creative mini's they put together along with our newest releases. The girls really enjoyed digging into these fun albums and creating one of a kind keepsakes that they'll treasure for years to come.

Let's start off with

BeckiephotoDown South Mini by Beckie

Beckie D Punky

MLS Destination Paper Trip of A Lifetime
MLS Destination Paper Miss U Already
MLS Destination Paper Souvenir
MLS Destination Paper Happy Hour
MLS Destination Paper Postcard
MLS Destination Paper Journey
MLS Destination Paper Sit Back and Relax
MLS Destination Cardstock Stickers
MLS Destination 3D Roll Up Flowers
MLS Razzleberry , Carrot Juice and Lollipop, Mini Alphabet Stickers
MLS Marshmellow Sprinkle Glaze Alphabet Stickers
MLS Cherry Pie Glitter Alphabet Sticker
MLS Oasis Clear Stamps
Stazon Black Ink
Clearsnaps Smooch Spritz
Anitas Acrylic Paint
Rusty Pickle Buttons

Designer's Tips: I absolutely adored this teenie - beanie sprout album from Phunky Sprouts.  There was so much fun to be had and I LOVED the idea of it being mixed media.  The canvas page was perfect for adding some Smooch Spritz to and also some acrylic paint.  I loved the effect as well when I decided to sew the pictures and paper on.  I also used the stamps from the Oasis range to stamp on the canvas which was perfect to soften the background.
The 3d roll up flower and buntings have a gorgeous white core so try sanding them to add some texture to the top on them. It is easier if you sand before you roll the flowers.

Life is too short to wear boring dresses
by Pearl

Pearl Punky

Designer's tip: Cover: I used Distress Stain in Vintage Photo to quickly cover most of it in a streaky manner . I then misted over the whole cover in Pink Bubblegum Glimmer Mist and that made it quick work creating a plain colored dark base to work with.
I love using diecuts whether it be ready made ( like our MLSB rolled flowers ) or cut using my Cuttlebug. I simply designed this cover first using the ready made diecuts on the Pretty Little Things die cut sheet. Then I looked for previously diecut pieces ( using Cottage Cutz MLSB designs ) to further embellish the page .
Inside Page 2 : I love using Alcohol Inks on Clear Acrylic Pages for a quick, dramatic effect. Here i used neutral colors with some Gold Mixative to allow my pic to "pop ".
Inside Page 3 : For this canvas page, I used a 6x6 circle template and 3 colors of Glimmer Mists to quickly create a suitable background to work with.
Inside Page 4 : The chipboard page was first colored with Broken China Distress Ink and when dry I went over the whole page with Glimmer Glaze and a fan brush.

Spooky Trick or Treat Punky album

ShellyPunky

Shelly used several of our Trick or Treat papers and misc ribbon, trims and spid
 er web on her mini.

So what does everyone think of these albums? We think MLS products paired with Punky albums are a perfect fit!  Join us each Thursday in September as we showcase more of our designer's albums.
Please visit our sponsor's Facebook page and let them know what you think of the design team projects!
Have a creative day everyone.

Destinations: where did you spend your summer traveling to?

Hello MLS fans! Summer is officially over for most kids now that School has started. Did summer really fly by that fast? We hope you had fun traveling with your families and creating lasting memories of another summer of fun. Our designers have created some fun projects with our Destinations collection to share their summer trips with you. Let's find out how they spent the summer...

Supply List:
MLS Destination Postcard
MLS Destination Journey
MLS Destination Sit Back and Relax
MLS Destination Trip of A Lifetime
MLS Destination Cardstock Stickers
MLS Destination 3D Roll Up Flowers
MLS Marshmellow Sprinkle Glaze Alphabet Stickers
Papermania Kraft 12 x 12 cardstock
Papermania Glazed Brads
Green and Yellow Acrylic paint
Zig Writer - Black

I mixed in a kraft 12 x 12 sheet to create this layout and painted it with acrylic paint to coordinate with the papers.  The flowers and banners made perfect embellishments and texture to the page and I have sanded them to bring through the white core.
When using alphabet stickers you can make them pop of the page but slowly (!) edging them with a black pen.  Here I used a Zig writer.

Hello MLS fans! Are you ready for your long weekend? What are your weekend holiday plans? BBQ's, swimming, one last trip out on the lake before summer is officially over? What ever you are up to this weekend we hope you have fun!

Today Becky Williams is showing us some inspiration with our Audrey collection.

  Beckycard1
Supplies: Audrey collection: Breakfast at Tiffany's paper, 3D roll up flower, mini alphas in Lollipop. Other supplies: staples, foam adhesive.

Designer tip: The new 3D roll up flowers are quite a hit! I decided to use one a little differently on this card and instead of rolling up the flower I used it to make the sun seen here.

Beckycard2

September Product Sponsor

Punkysprouts

Hello MLS fans! It's September 1st and that means it's time to introduce this month's product sponsor. We are so pleased to team up with Punky Sprouts for the month of September. Our design team has created some fantastic projects with the Punky Sprouts line. Join us every Thursday this month for some fabulous mini album inspiration!

Today to kick off our product spotlight is Nicole's fabulous album created with our Trick or Treat collection. Nicole is such a talented designer who always thinks outside of the box. Nicole has shared some one of a kind techniques with our design team members and blog followers and today's album is another example of her out of the box approach to paper crafting.

Pumpkin Patch Moments by Nicole Wragge

IMG_4751

Nicole is always coming up with innovative ways to use our mini alpha sticker sheets. We love how she used them here as the background for one of her pages.

IMG_4752

Designers Notes: I received the Sprocket album which with a little trimming quickly became a pumpkin album! That is what I loved about working with this album from Punky Sprouts is the versatility! There were so many fun pages to play with and the little accessories like the canvas flowers or the paper bag-like pieces just really got my creative juices flowing. Using trick or treat literally was a treat! The new die-cut flowers were easy to role and alter. One of them became a stem with leaves while others just bloomed in their own beautiful way. And again, those Mini Alphas {my version of candy yielding absolutely zero calories!} were so fun to pair with the different My Little Shoebox papers!

IMG_4757

This album is all kinds of fun! Thanks to Nicole for sharing her talent with us! Now we'd love for you to head on over to the Punky Sprouts Facebook page and tell them we sent you! We'll have a fabulous prize package (that includes a Punky album) up for grabs tmr for our Free Product Friday post and here's a hint on how you can win: we'll be choosing our winner from those that have posted to the Punky Sprouts wall.

Have a great day!
