Tuesday Tutorial with Rocio

Rocio

Origami Folding Flowers Tutorial

With spring just around the corner, I wanted to share with you all an origami folding flower tutorial.  I have been addicted to making these paper flowers.  We even make it as a family activity.  Hope you enjoy it!

  Rociotutorialstep1-4

1.       Start with a 3x3 piece of paper. I used Enchanted Garden’s Classy paper.  I love all the colors.

2.       Fold the bottom corner to the top to make a triangle, this will be the side seen on the outside of your flower so make sure you are happy with your choice.

3.       Fold the right bottom corner of the triangle to the top point.

4.       Repeat for the left side.  I used a bone folder to ensure my folds and edges were flat.  You should now have a square.

Rociotutorialstep5-8

5.       Fold the top left flap of the square backwards as shown.  This should form a little kite shape on each flap.  Repeat for the other side.

6.       Fold the top triangles as shown so that they are level with the edge of the paper.

7.       Fold the right flap along the existing crease.   Repeat for the other side.

8.       Place adhesive to one triangle as shown and attach to the other triangle.

  Rociotutorialstep9-10

9.       Here is a completed petal. Repeat steps 1-8 to create five more.  Note where I placed my adhesive to adhere the petals together.

10.    Adhere all six petals together.  When you have adhered three of the six petals add the floral wire in the middle as shown.

Here is what the completed flower looks like.

  Rociotutorialcomplete1

Once you have created a few flowers you can create your own bouquet of flowers.  I used all 6 papers from Enchanted Garden to create my flowers.  I also added a few leaves using the “B” side of Exquisite and adhering them to some floral wire.  Here is my completed bouquet:

  Rociotutorialcomplete2

Our Thanks to Rocio for a fabulous tutorial!

Have a creative day!

This is a great idea and would be fun to create for your little ones. I know it seems like only yesterday my son was 5 and now he's 14 and passed my 5'7 self right by. It's funny how when they're taller than you it's a little harder to scold them looking up.
Thanks for stopping by today.

Destinations with Nicole Wragge

Hello My Little Shoebox fans! Today designer Nicole Wragge is sharing some fantastic layouts and cards she created using our Destination collection.

Nicole

STORYTIME LAYOUT:
IMG_5109

Nicole's notes: This layout was 100% inspired by the picture. Our family loves to read and the idea of making a mini-3D book using foam board and the bright papers and cardstock stickers just made my heart happy! I made sure to create a bookmark made of ribbon because we wouldn't want to loose our place in the story! I used a few of the role-up flowers along with the flag banners for the leaves to add additional dimension to the layout. The journalling was done using the a few of the icons which were popped using Therm-o-web's 3D Zots and of course the Mini Alphas and Glitter Alphas. I love this layout on the TRIP OF A LIFETIME Circle Scallop paper!!!
WELCOME HOME CARD:
IMG_5115

Nicole's Notes: For this card I used the HAPPY HOUR paper as the backdrop, then trimmed the bar-code strip off and used the "B" side grey stripe to anchor the top/bottom of the card. The journaling tag found on the POSTCARD paper helped tie in the grey and the turquoise in the HAPPY HOUR paper. I used the LOLLIPOP MINI ALPHAS and the LADYBUG SPRINKLE ALPHAS for the sentiment. The two flowers on the die-cut sheet were secured with Therm-o-web 3D Zots and added a pretty touch to the card.
SWEET ADDISON LAYOUT:
IMG_5136

Nicole's Notes: For this layout I wanted to highlight the bright-happy red and pink combination of this line. The HAPPY HOUR and SIT BACK AND RELAX papers are so pretty when they are layered together and then there is a pop of the fun turquoise color! I hand-cut the journalling tag off the POSTCARD paper and then layered it with the photo and the "B" side of the HAPPY HOUR paper. I added a few of the flowers from the die-cut sheet and then added a homemade role up flower using the "B" side of the SOUVENIR paper. Making the title was the fun part... I like to stretch myself sometimes and I was trying to come up with a way to use all the fun icons on the JOURNEY and POSTCARD papers.
A = made from the triangle flag on the die-cut sheet
d = flipped the "parking" sign to make a lower-case "d"
I = turned the "do not enter" sign to make the "I"
S = fussy cut out 2 of the "U-turn" red arrows and then turned them over to use the "B" side and connected the arrows to make an "S"
O = fussy cut out the "60 mph" sign and then layered it with white cardstock to create a white border
N = fussy cut the letter "N" off of the "ONE WAY" sign on the POSTCARD paper
THIS GIRL LOVES SUNGLASSES LAYOUT:
IMG_5116

Nicole's Notes: Let me start by saying this photo makes me laugh hysterically! I know you don't know my oldest whom I call our Desert Darling, however she is so the opposite of what this picture shows. She is kind, she is friendly, she ALWAYS has a smile on her face... never a growly-bad-to-the-bone look. To say the least when it came time to edit pictures I knew I had to scrap this one!!! I used the "B" side of the JOURNEY paper as my backdrop and then layered a newly-punched "B" side of the HAPPY HOUR strip of paper to the right of the layout. I really liked the look of the turquoise die-cut Rollie flower undone so that was added in the upper right corner. I used the punch out clouds - My Little Shoebox is known for their clouds and personally I can't get enough of them - to round out that same corner. I layered the picture on white cardstock {TIP: if I don't have white cardstock handy, I go to my scrap pile and reach for the My Little Shoebox Circle Scallops since their "B" sides are white} and then again on the "B" side of the SOUVENIR paper. The SPARKLE GLITTER ALPHAS and MINI ALPHAS make up the title along with a hand-cut heart out of the polka dot journalling tag on the POSTCARD paper.

Weren't these layouts fun! Thanks for the inspiration with Destination today. We love that Nicole shared that while Destination is a vacation and travel themed collection it can also work well for everyday photos too!

Have a creative day!

A lot of layout Inspiration today just for you

Hello MLS fans. Today we are sharing some layout inspiration with you from a few of the designers. It's fun to put a few different scrapbooking styles together so you can draw inspiration from which ever designer you most identify with. We hope you'll enjoy this fun look at each girls style with a few of our different collections.  Let's get started with Keely.

Glitter Alphabet Stickers - Toffee (10123)

Fiskars Scallop Punch
Doodlebug mini alpha rub-ons

Melinda - PT - DEC - Freestyler closeup 3

Melinda's Tip: Layouts can sometimes get a little crowded and overstated so I tried to keep this layout fairly simple with pops of embellishments to enhance the overall appearance. I also tried something a bit different and cut one rounded corner for all three layers of the backing sheets to add that touch of difference.

MLS Destination - Souvenir B Side
MLS Destination - Happy Hour B Side
MLS Destination - Postcard
Paper Crimper

Shelly's Notes: I used only the back sides for this layout and actually cut small strips on one side and curled the paper in at varying lengths.  Then I attached another B side underneath for a unique effect.

Ilene

Layout: Winter Sport

Supplies:
Paper, Letters, Stickers, Roll-Up Flowers, Die-Cut Banner: My Little Shoebox

Ilene's Notes: You can buy kits of various-sized imitation pearls really cheaply at big-box stores - I got mine at ACMoore with a 50% off coupon, and it came with various sizes and colors of pearls. These really large pearls make perfect flower centers, especially for the cute Roll-Up flowers!

Winter Wonderland Monday

Happy New Year MLS fans! It's a brand new year full of possibilities! If you've made some resolutions to scrap more we've got plenty of inspiration to share with you here on the My Little Shoebox blog.

Today Rocio is sharing some projects she created with Winter Wonderland.

Rocio

I know the holidays are over for some but I thought you might like an idea for a quick and easy holiday wreath for your homes.

Rocioproject1

You can create fun paper bows with scraps of paper.

Rocioproject2

Use border punches like these ones from Martha Stewart to create decorative strips to easily wrap around the wicker wreath.

Rocioproject3

I also created a few cards to share as well

Rociocard1

I made another fun paper box for this card.

Rociocard2

The coordinating Winter Wonderland cardstock stickers make it easy to create holiday cards quickly.

I hope you're inspired to create something fun today! Share your work with us on our Facebook wall. We love seeing what you are creating with your MLS stash!

Have a creative day!
