Beckie's Notes: On this card I cut the hearts from one journaling card to use as an embellishment on another card, layered that on the brown cardstock (Ocen and Brownie) and layered that on the polka dot which is on the reverse side of the paper with the journaling cards. I added a bit of twine and some stickers and popped up the spot with foam adhesive.

Project Friday with Linda

Hello MLS fans! It's Project Friday and we have a special treat for you from designer Linda Kretz. Linda has taken our very popular Up in the Trees collection and created a beautiful project to inspire you to scrap your weekend away!

Linda

Happy Days Album by Linda Kretz

TreesProj1Lindafeb

TreesProj2LindaFeb

TreesProj3LindaFeb

TreesProj4LindaFeb

Supplies: (Up in the Trees collection)

  • Heart on a String 118975
  • Woodgrain Love  11872
  • Cardboard Stickers 11881
  • Free as a Bird 11874
  • Birds Eye View 11873
  • Fly High Circle Paper
  • My Way 11876
  • Ocean Cardstock 11879
  • Oregano cardstock 11878
  • 3D Roll-Up Flower Diecut borders and clouds
  • Plaid pearl white acrylic paint, ribbons, doilies, mini-letters, stickles, acetate for cover

Linda's Tip:  Creating an acetate window for an album cover is a nice change of pace, and I love combining ribbon and lace on projects.  Adding pockets for pictures is also fun!

Linda feels she is in one of the best phases of life - being a grandparent.  Most of her scrapbooking focuses on four grandchildren - capturing memories as they grow!  She is retired and loving it!  It is a time to enjoy and explore anything that interests her.  That would include reading, volunteer work, traveling, and indulging in a lifelong interest in all kinds of crafts - particularly scrapbooking projects.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today.

We hope you have a very creative weekend!

Collection kit challenge take 2

Hello MLS fans! You might remember last month that we gave designer Mandy Starner the Collection kit challenge using our Keepsake collection.

Well for this month we gave the same challenge to designer Nicole Wragge and boy did she make the most of the Keepsake collection kit. Here's what she created.

Nicole
My take on the Collection Kit Challenge:

I just couldn't wait to get home and start playing! The Collection Kits consist of one of each paper within the collection, one die cut and one card stock sticker sheet. And the challenge was make as many beautiful things as you can using the Collection Kit! Throughout this creating process there were a couple tips that really helped me get the most out of my paper.

TIP #1:
First step was to trim the papers down to 12 x 12, removing the little 1/4 inch tab at the top. Instead of throwing away that little tab, I saved them and used them throughout the projects as journalling or stripes! Those little strips of paper could add a pop of color in a pinch!
TIP #2:
Layering different papers together adds such a beautiful effect to layouts, and I tend to lay everything out on my paper until I get things just the way I want it. But before I started adhering pieces together I used my trimmer to take a piece out of the bottom 12 x 12 to save it for later. For example, on the SCRAPPY TIME layout I saved a 5.5 x.5.5 inch piece of the card stock paper and used it on other projects.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY card:

IMG_6035

It seems like February is birthday month so I was excited to make a birthday card using the new Keepsake Collection. The rolly flower was altered using Viva Pink Glimmer Mist and then I used a pretty craft pearl for the center. The leaves were trimmed from the pretty rose card stock sticker and then distressed with some Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
HELLO card:

IMG_6036

The roses in this collection have such soft feel to them, so very pretty! Using Diamond Stickles made them glitter a little and then using the UNITY "hello" STAMP from the Pretty Little Things Collection added the sentiment to this card. The delicate pink bakers twine looped around the 4 x 4 card added nice dimension without much bulk.
ENGAGED layout:

IMG_6011

This layout was such fun to create! With my sister's recent engagement and her color choice of yellow for the wedding colors - the GARDEN DELIGHT paper was destined to be on this layout! I used 10 of the flowers on the die cut sheet - one for each year that they have been together - and then dressed them up with Stickles, buttons and Glossy Accents.

SCRAPPY TIME layout:

IMG_6008

I could tell where my inspiration came for this layout - I had been doing "square" homework with my daughter and that shape carried over to my layout! These photos of my dear friends were taken a few years ago at a scrapbook retreat in Arizona and we had such fun together! The pretty CHIFFON mini alphas were such a bright and happy yellow against the pink card stock.

CHA WINTER mini album:

IMG_6031

IMG_6032
IMG_6033

IMG_6034

I LOVED MAKING THIS ALBUM! Using all the pictures from CHA, I trimmed them down to a 4 x4  to fit in the 7Gypsies Album and then had a ball embellishing each page! Ribbons, black & white polka dot SMASH tape and Stickles really brought out the beauty of the music notes, the darling birdies and the versatile journal tags!
IMG_6043
The last picture is what I have left over... which means more crafting creations using KEEPSAKE!!!
We hope you've been inspired by Nicole's tips!
Thanks for stopping by!

Tuesday Tutorial with Rocio

Hello MLS fans! It's Tuesday and time for another fun tutorial from our Design Team. Today's tutorial is brought to us by Rocio Duran.

Rocio

Origami Folding Flowers Tutorial

With spring just around the corner, I wanted to share with you all an origami folding flower tutorial using our Enchanted Garden collection.  I have been addicted to making these paper flowers.  We even make it as a family activity.  Hope you enjoy it!

Rociotutorialstep1-4

1.       Start with a 3x3 piece of paper. I used Enchanted Garden’s Classy paper.  I love all the colors.

2.       Fold the bottom corner to the top to make a triangle, this will be the side seen on the outside of your flower so make sure you are happy with your choice.

3.       Fold the right bottom corner of the triangle to the top point.

4.       Repeat for the left side.  I used a bone folder to ensure my folds and edges were flat.  You should now have a square.

  Rociotutorialstep5-8

5.       Fold the top left flap of the square backwards as shown.  This should form a little kite shape on each flap.  Repeat for the other side.

6.       Fold the top triangles as shown so that they are level with the edge of the paper.

7.       Fold the right flap along the existing crease.   Repeat for the other side.

8.       Place adhesive to one triangle as shown and attach to the other triangle.

  Rociotutorialstep9-10

9.   Here is a completed petal. Repeat steps 1-8 to create five more.  Note where I placed my adhesive to adhere the petals together.

10.    Adhere all six petals together.  When you have adhered three of the six petals add the floral wire in the middle as shown.

Here is what the completed flower looks like.

  Rociotutorialcomplete1

Once you have created a few flowers you can create your own bouquet of flowers.  I used all 6 papers from Enchanted Garden to create my flowers.  I also added a few leaves using the “B” side of Exquisite and adhering them to some floral wire.  Here is my completed bouquet:

Thanks for stopping by today! Have a creative day!

Aiko inspiration from Erin

Hello MLS fans! It's halfway thru the week and there are only a few days left to submit your application for our Design Team call. We've extended the deadline thru the weekend so you now have until Midnight pacific time Sunday March 11th to apply. We look forward to reviewing your submissions!
Our Aiko collection has a beautiful color palette and today we're sharing some beautiful projects that design team member Erin Yamabe has created.

So In Love Layout

My Little Shoebox Aiko:
11814 Blue Sky
11813 Bouquet
11820 March
11817 Happy Notes

11821 Cardstock sticker
Therm O Web
sticky tape runner
zot dots
I Craft adhesive sheets
foam squares
MFTStamps diecuts
Handmade felt flower by Pattie Beltran
This line is a lot of fun to work with!  Loving the bright contrasts, as well as the pretty softer tone on tone.  This layout, I paired a few of the papers with the B sides, to create a background!  And I cut out the circle pattern paper, and used the edges as an embellishment around the papers.
OZONI 2012

My Little Shoebox AIko:
11812 Little Princess

11811 3D Roll Up Flower
11821 Cardstock Sticker
Therm O Web
sticky tape runner
zot dots
foam squares
I Craft adhesive sheet
Bazzill in stitches
As tradition in our family, we celebrate the New Year with a traditional Japanese brunch, Ozoni, served at my Aunt's home.  For this photo, I chose the softer colors in this line, again with some of the oh so pretty B sides and added some stickers:)
 FIVE!

Therm O Web
sticky tape runner

American Crafts black pen

For these photos of my daughter's birthday...I chose the bright contrasts in this line, as they so fit her personality!  Love layering the beautiful patterns in this line:)
And finally a quick card Erin created as well.

Here's a quick and simple card, utilizing all of your scraps from the layouts:)  Just paired the papers with some border punches and a die cut doily and voila:)
We hope you are inspired by Erin's work today.

Creating with Keepsake

Hello MLS fans! Today it's Becky and Ilene's turn to share their talents with our Keepsake collection. We love seeing the designer's work coming in each month and these two ladies continue to WOW us with their talents. Today we're starting with some beautiful projects by Becky Williams.

Becky

"Now and Then" by Becky Williams
Supplies
Keepsake Collection: Window View, Garden Delight, English Rose, Razzleberry and Chiffon, Simple Treasures, Cardstock Stickers.
Designer Note:
This is one of my very favorites of all of the My Little Shoebox collections! I really like the bright, happy colors and the cute little frames. I cut out some of the patterned paper frames to add to this layout.

"For You" gift box by Becky Williams

Beckywilliams_februaryproje

Supplies
Keepsake Collection: Simple Treasures, English Rose, Window View, 3D Roll-Up Flowers.
Other: jewels from ZVA Creative and Prima, paper tape and twine from American Crafts, pompom trim from craft supply.

Designer Note: I have been getting a package ready to send to a good friend and wanted to make a cute box to put some treats in for her and this collection was perfect! I love the elegance that the roll-up flowers add to a project and the happy colors of the Keepsake collection. She is sure to love it! I covered the box and lid with patterned paper, made some of the roll-up flowers, added those to the box along with some bling and then added the final details of the pompom trim and twine.

Now it's Ilene's turn!

Ilene

Ice Cream Fun (layout) by Ilene Tell

IceCreamFun

Supplies:
Paper, die-cut border, stickers: My Little Shoebox Keepsake Collection
Chipboard Letters: Heidi Swapp (these are from my stash from years ago)
Buttons: Fancy Pants Designs
Chipboard: 7 Gypsies
Cloth Flowers: Prima Marketing
Other: brads, Liquid Pearls, Sharpie, black cardstock

About the page: The background sheet of paper with all the frames on it made me think of a modern art piece, which went well with this photo that had a somewhat modern, artsy feel, with all the bright colors in the background and us sitting at a high counter. It made me think of a painting that I had seen, which inspired me to put this page together. If you're ever short on inspiration, open up and art book, and it's sure to get you in the mood again :)

 A Little Note (card)

Card

Supplies:
Paper, stickers: My Little Shoebox Keepsake Collection
Sticker letters: My Little Shoebox
Stamp: Kraftin' Kimmie
Other: Glossy Accents, Copic Markers

About the card: Lately, I've been having a lot of fun coloring stamped images with my Copics. What I love about My Little Shoebox collection is that they always come with a sheet of journaling cards/frames that you can cut apart yourself. These make the PERFECT frames or mats for the stamped images. They're always sized just right and coordinate beautifully with the rest of the collection.

Our Happy Day

Buttons: Fancy Pants Designs
Laser-Cut Chipboard: Scrapmatts
Flowers, leaves: Prima Marketing
Die-Cutting Machine: Sizzix Big Shot

About the Page: I took the word "cutie" from my daughter's shirt and used it for the title. I love the new 12x12 sheet of stickers that comes with the collections and the two types of alphas you get with it. The little round ones were perfect for doing the title here.
Well fans we hope you enjoyed all the eye candy. Please tell us which project inspired you the most today.
Thanks for stopping by and as always...
Have a creative day!

Speaking of the weekend, how many of you are working on your submissions for our Design Team Call? There's only 8 days left to get your submissions in!
We've gotten a few questions concerning the Design Team call that we'd like to answer so everyone feels good about submitting their designs.
Q. Does it matter if I use some older collections to submit with?

A. We welcome any My Little Shoebox collection you want to create your submissions with.
Q. Is it OK that I use other manufacturers embellishments on my submission projects?

A. You are free to use any embellishments that you think compliment our collections
Q. Do I have to create new projects for the DT Call?

A. No, we welcome any project, layout or card that you have created using any of our collections. If you're inspired to create something new, that is great too!
From the MLS Team:
We hope this answers some of your questions and that you'll be encouraged to submit your projects for our Design Team Call. If you've never applied for a DT Call before, don't be shy... Go For It!
If you have applied before and not made the team we want to encourage you to... not give up! Some of our previous Design Team members did not make the team on their 1st try. So get out those scrappy supplies this weekend and scrap your hearts out!
We can't wait to see all of your beautiful work!
Dt siggy
