checking in from the show : Lisa Truesdell

Hi Peas! I'm actually checking in from home - I was up bright and early (err, really, DARK and early) for a 7am flight out of O'Hare. I am absolutely exhausted after two busy days at CHA summer, but wanted to share a few favorites from the show with you!

I absolutely love going to all the booths and checking out the decor and projects. Here are three decor ideas that caught my eye this year - all of these companies really nailed carrying the feel for their lines / brand into every inch of the booth :

Frames with banners and papers at Studio Calico. How cute would this be in a craft room or kids room?

Vintage cameras tucked in with crates and twine at Jenni Bowlin Studio - I love the mix of textures, and this would be a cute display in any room!

Layout displayed on a clipboard at Amy Tangerine for American Crafts - I loved all the shapes and layers she has here.

Here's another little behind the scenes peek - when you're at CHA with a manufacturer, the work doesn't end when the show does. Each night and morning there are orders to be entered into the system, customer service inquiries to be answered and checking in with the home office to make sure that all is running smoothly there. This set up of dueling laptops just cracked me up.

My LEAST favorite part of the show? The entire convention center is nothing but Pepsi. I'm a diehard Diet Coke girl, and there is never enough sleep to go around! Fellow Garden Girl  Jen Jockisch was sweet enough to make a McD's Diet Coke run for most of the Studio Calico crew yesterday afternoon - it was the perfect pick me up!

I wish I had more photos to share, but I spent most of the show frantically running and never thought to take any! Instead, I'll link you up to Jamie's videos (and giveaways!) for my top 3 picks of the show :

Studio Calico - Sophisticated colors and patterns - these lines have been a dream to scrap with! I'm totally excited about the new Mister Huey colors and masks, the Hero Arts Stamps, the journals and the scrap pads (little shaped sticky notes)

October Afternoon - I adore OA's bright vintage feel, and am in LOVE with their new flag stickers and die cut embellishments. I was also thrilled that they continued the Miscellany packs - I have been using a lot of the ones that match their past lines.

Amy Tangerine for American Crafts - So fun, funky, and right on trend. My favorite items were the bits (little die cut shapes and journaling cards), the washi (oh, the washi!!) and the fabric paper. She has Thickers in great fonts and colors, too.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a little CHA tour with me - I have a suitcase to unpack and real life to get back to. ;) Happy Thursday!

CHA Show with Jamie

Hi Peas!  Jamie Sorenson here.  I hope you've enjoyed all the blog posts, chats, challenges and videos we've had going on with our social!  I see there's been a lot of chatter on the board and some amazing projects in the gallery.

I am home from the show - what a whirlwind of fun it was!  I so enjoyed seeing all the fantastic booths and new products, as well meeting for the first time the vendors I've emailed back and forth and the designers I've admired.  I was psyched to get to hang out with a few of our Garden Girls - most of which I had never met in person before!  I snapped photos when I could and thought I would share my show experience with you here ... come walk the floor with me!

First, I got up bright and early Tuesday morning.  Chicago is about 2 1/2 hours away from PeaTown.  My hubby, Chris, came along with me - he did the driving and took the video.

When we arrived at the show, this entrance area was packed with crowds.  There was an opening ceremony - we could hear the bag pipes playing right before the doors to the show room floor opened at 10.  Once the doors opened we roamed from booth to booth, taking video with vendors and snapping quick shots of some of the displays.

After we walk the show, we return to our hotel and kick our tired feet up.  In effort to get as many videos up as soon as possible, I have two laptops going editing and uploading videos.  They were working hard!

The next morning Kristina and I  met up with the Garden Girls who were there: Jen Jockisch, Lisa Truesdell, Shimelle Laine, Jenny Chesnick  and Julie Campbell- loved seeing them in person and getting to know them more!

They are super sweet and had me laughing.  Seriously.  My cheeks hurt from smiling. :)

Our day ended with one delicious slice of strawberry cheesecake (I didn't want to share...) and a little trip to the top of one very high skyscraper - the John Hancock building.  The view was breathtaking!

Thanks for "walking the show" with me!  If you'd like to see more from the show, be sure to check out the Garden Girls' posts - you can see them all here.  :)

Kristina's CHA post.....

I arrived home from CHA yesterday.... armed with catalogs, orders and a lot of ideas. I was already armed with quite a few orders before I arrived there, so my show walking experience is pretty easy. 1. finish up any orders from manufacturers that I have already spoken with. 2. place orders for products not yet seen. 3. find new manufacturers, if there are any that would fit into our business model and 4. look at all the ideas, samples and fun displays.

I love looking at all the samples. I think almost all of my photos are of samples that I enjoyed looking at. Sometimes, though, I am tired and just don't take out my camera (or iphone) and just absorb the creativity around me. This was the case with the last thing I saw before I left the show.... I was in the Stampers Anonymous booth at the very end of the show room, and was taking in the beautiful mixed media art by artist Dyan Reaveley.  Wow. I was really impressed and taken with her work. I have always been drawn to mixed media art and have spent most of my creative time in 2011 doing mixed media and putting off my scrapbooking. I loved looking at how she uses her stamps. I wanted to run my fingers over her large old church ledger that she is using for her art. Each page is filled with color and goodness. I did not take any photos. I was timid and didn't ask her if I could. I am certain we could find some of her beautiful art somewhere out there on the internet.....

I did take photos though of projects in Bella Blvd, Jillibean, Studio Calico, October Afternoon, and some mixed media art in Design.Memory.Craft.....

I love just being surrounded by the colors and designs of each of the booths. You don't know what you will see when you come upon the next booth. Will it be a bike hanging from the ceiling? a jumbo TV? A christmas tree? pom pom creations? Will the whole booth be head to toe decorated in the current collection's theme? Or will it be large scale posters of their designs? little displays for each collection? A big booth? A small booth? Will they have a table to sit or stand at? Can I get in the booth or is it mobbed? Sometimes an important thing to note... do they have a candy dish for those in my party who crave a chocolate fix in the mid-afternoon?

October Afternoon's booth has been fun and themey the last 2 shows. This year was an old west building to promote their new Sasparilla collection.
While we were still present at the show yesterday, there was an announcement awarding Doodlebug Design the best booth of the summer show. They were very excited and still a bit shocked and overwhelmed when we arrived a little bit later. They have created a few nice sets of card creating displays for stores to purchase for easy selling during the holiday season. Very colorful and clever with all of their color coordinated items.

Other things I wonder and like to note as I look around... what kind of samples do they have? scrapbook layouts? cards? other paper crafted projects? It was interesting that 2 different booths I went into had taken the black 7gypsies tray and used it to create a Haunted House wall decor with their new halloween paper collections. there was multiple christmas trees and christmas decorations. wreaths, cards, tags, packages, etc. Crate paper had a cute little display of antique items holding their products, including a candy type dish that was made by someone for them. They had adhered the tops of their brads in it. It was fun.
The EK Success booth had each corner set up like a show room... they were presenting all of the products that were for purchase for that set in a beautifully manicured display. There was a bright cheery Martha Celebrations set up, with all kinds of home decor items, food packaging and projects created using the cupcake wrappers and other items. Eye candy for sure.

Is the booth working a Make & take or creating samples right there in the booth. The Pink Paislee team had a nice small table set up in front to demonstrate their mistables products----the papers are treated with a clear printed material which resists the paints, inks and sprays , so that it stays raised and clear while the paper around it soaks up the colors. Each time you use one of these products you create a unique product all your own. American Crafts had a great little display for their new collaborative collection with Amy Tangerine. Not only had Amy built a lovely little display area of her favorite things that she used as inspiration in her collection, it was also used as a backdrop to the photo station they had set up. You could have your photo taken and then immediately tweet, facebook or email it out there to your social network so everyone knew that you had just spent a moment with the lovely Amy Tangerine.

All in all, I think I was more aware and absorbing more of the creativeness floating around the room than perhaps I had been in the past. It could be that the show was smaller and I was really attempting to take it all in, or maybe I was just more focused on these things this time since I had already placed so many orders before arriving at the show. Did order a lot of new products? Yes. I sure did. and like you, I can't wait for it all to arrive in the warehouse.

Checking in from the Show- Jen Chesnick

Good Morning Peas! It's early here in Chicago and I am getting set to head down to the Convention Center to meet up the rest of the Peas who are here.  What fun eh?  The show is always madness, crazy and fun.  I'm here helping out Maya Road in their booth and for set-up.  It's been great fun, but hard work wink  In my free time I've wandered the showroom looking for what is going to be my new favorites.  Vintage still seems to be the hot trend, banners have yet to make a departure and canvas is only getting hotter.

I stopped by the Lifestyle Crafts booth to check out some projects made with the Silhouette.  I absolutely need to try and quilt with it! How cool!  I also loved this vinyl on metal idea.

This die by Sizzix also caught my eye.  How great for weddings and parties would this be?

Bella Blvd's Midterm is adorable! So great for back to school.  I also loved the new chipboard pieces.

Maya Roads' trim is by far my must have obsession waiting to happen.  Check out this trim! I am going to make a camera strap out of it because it's so wide!

I have falling in love with Jimmy Johns LOL! I was shocked to find out they are in my area back home.  They delivered us box lunches and were so good, plus how cool is the packaging?

To wrap up my day I ended with some goods for my poor aching feet wink

Checking in from the show - Jen Jockisch

Hi Peas! This is Jen Jockisch checking in from CHA Summer 2011 in Rosemont, Il. It is INSANELY hot here today, as it is in many parts of the country, but we're having a great time and there is a TON fun new product being featured everywhere you look!

I wanted to share with you a few things that caught my eye today. I know that I didn't get to see everything and I can't wait to walk around tomorrow and take more photos.

    Some of my faves:

Amy Tan for American Crafts line - WOWOWOWOW. This stuff is so kitschy to me, so colorful and bold and vibrant. I think it's a breath of fresh air into the industry and will prove to be super versatile. Love this new Thickers font too!. Plus, you guys should SEE this booth! Amy worked so hard and the whole thing just looks amazing.

Studio Calico - Another HUGE WOW. Seriously. The colors are so vibrant and the patterns are awesome and would be great for so many different kinds of projects. And the new Hero Arts plus SC stamp sets? TO DIE FOR. With tons of new embellishments and new Mister Huey colors, this is sure to be another big hit .Another great booth design too!

Fancy Pants - These papers! Such a great palette and lovely designs. I'm really loving the new chipboard shapes and buttons and new coffee filters! (My fave product of theirs!)

October Afternoon - Who doesn't love everything they release? This show is no exception, and there is some great stuff to look forward to from OA!

Crate Paper - One of my favorite releases from the show. I feel like they broke into my head and pulled out my dream paper line. The colors are a bit unexpected, a little different than most other lines on the market, but man oh man do they work. You are sure to love every bit of these new releases!

Jenni Bowlin - As always, Jenni knocks it out of the park. Such great vintage lines in her signature style. I especially love these new alphas and these new doily flowers.

I didn't get a chance to see everything I wanted to today, luckily there's a few more days at the show! I'll leave you with a pic of myself with Jamie Sorenson and Shimelle!

Anyway. That's all I've got. I hope you guys enjoyed seeing a little bit of CHA through my eyes. Which reminds me, I should add that all photos were taken with the Instagram app on my iPhone, so the colors may be a bit different than the actual product, but trust me when I tell you that it is all gorgeous!

CHA Challenge #10: Give Me Vintage

We've seen the traditional designs.  We've seen the cutesy designs.  Perhaps your favorite designs are ones from times past.  Many manufacturers are using vintage imagery as we see in these Halloween and Christmas releases.  And chances are, if you enjoy this style, you have some vintage imagery in your stash already.  This challenge is to use that in a holiday project.  (See also Challenge #6 if you dig the Retro look)

You have one week to upload your project. It could be a card, layout, altered project - it's up to you!   While you may enter multiple projects per challenge, we ask that you not combine challenges for one project. Be sure to check the challenge checkbox so that your project is attached to this post.  A drawing will be made and the winner of this challenge will receive a goodie box from one of our sponsors!  Look out for the announcement on the CHA message board.   Enjoy!

CHA Challenge #1: Get Cozy!

Are you ready for your first CHA Online Social challenge?  Okay, we won't keep you waiting any longer!  Your first challenge is to get cozy with your projects!  Many of the sneaks we are seeing from the show remind us of some of the things we find comfort in - our homes and the items in them - like quilts, cups of hot tea, sweaters and don't forget - comfort foods!  How you interpret this challenge is up to you.  You could scrap a favorite recipe, mimic the design of a quilt or simply scrap the theme of home, food, or even relationships -  whatever you find coziness and comfort in!

Enjoy!

Snap & Scrap Your Summer with Jen Jockisch

Snap & Scrap Your Summer with Jen Jockisch

Hello and welcome to the final day in our series.  Can you believe these two weeks are gone already and July has arrived?!  We hope you've had fun with the challenges and have been inspired, giving you a few extra tools in your tool belt for documenting your summer.  There are still many challenges open, if you'd like to play along for your chance to win a prize pack from 2P's, click here.

Here is Jen sharing her scrappy summer with us - don't forget to check out the final challenge at the bottom of this post.  Looking for the previous days in our series?  No problem!  Click here.

I recently got an iPhone, and am loving taking pics with the Instagram or Hipstamatic apps. It's so much easier than lugging out my big camera, and I'm finding that I'm taking far more photos since I've gotten it.

Taking photos in the summer is tough. All that bright light with zero shade makes it pretty difficult. I usually shoot in auto on sunny days because it's just easier than trying to figure it out. Not to mention that with little kids you usually need to be fast, and if I'm fiddling with aperture and shutter speed I end up missing the photo. And summer is all about the memories, right? All those little moments when our kids (and us) are having a blast and just being innocent with no demands. Another reason I'm super excited about my iphone....I hate lugging my dSLR when we go places, now I can just take it and snap away.

I really love the American Crafts Margarita line. The colors are so bright and vivid and so fun for scrapping summer photos.

I love this Captain American page. It was our daughter Ayla's first time being in a parade, and seeing that photo makes me smile all over again remembering how happy and excited she was. It was the perfect end to our summer.

This page by Cheryl Nelson - I  love all the dimension and it's such a great way to scrap beach photos.

I love to do 'month in review' type layouts for summer. Summer is usually so jam packed with fun things and that means tons of photos! The best way for me to stay on top of it is to include a ton of smaller photos, 2x2 or 3x3 and just cover the entire month in one shot.  Your challenge: Create an in-review project and upload it to the gallery, making sure to check the challenge checkbox.  You have through next Friday, the 8th, to complete it.  A drawing will be made and the winner will be posted on the Education board.  Have fun!

Thanks so much, Jen!  And thanks everyone for joining us as we scrap our summers.  We pulled a little inspiration from Jen's gallery to get you jumpstarted on her 'in review' challenge - these 'in review' projects use multiple photos.  Have fun with it and we'll see you at our next event!

Snap & Scrap Your Summer with Jamie Waters

Hi there and welcome back!  Today Jamie Waters shares her secrets, faves and tips.  You might be tempted to squeeze in her suitcase on her next vacation, and she's sure to encourage with her paparazzi approach to photographing her family when they're not ready to smile for the camera.  Have fun scrapping her challenge at the end of this post!

One more thing before we get started - good news!  We've had so much fun with this series we're not quite ready to end it today.  Look for a bonus post tomorrow!

Looking for more interviews from this series?  Click here!

I love this photo because this son of mine is the only one of my 4 kids who isn't a 'water' kinda kid. I love that he overcame his tendency to sit near the pool with his nose in a book, and participate with the family. It's a proud mom thing.

When going on a vacation, try taking a few photos without anyone in them! It's nice to go back home and look back on those photos and mentally go back there. It's easy to get them without people in them too- that way you're not stressing on everyone looking at the camera, etc. For these, I stepped out of our hotel room and wandered the grounds and snapped at what I thought was pretty and wanted to remember once I got back home into the routine of regular life! :)

It's not as bright as normal summer layouts but I am so excited to use these with some of the bright summer photos I have! For me it's easier to go with muted background colors when using bright photos. This Basic Grey collection, Out of Print, is perfect!

This is one of my summer favorites, my girls on the way to the beach. I like scrapping the story behind the story. Yes, we were off to the beach but I didn't want to focus on that, I wanted to focus on the sisters. I love the colors and the paper choices, it's a layout that just flowed for me!

I love how this page showcases a single event yet incorporates so many details of the event! I love the 'bite sized' photos and colors!

I love the trees! I don't have a silhouette (as she used here) but I like the look and think I could incorporate more hand cut embellishments into my layouts!

When the kids don't feel like posing, be paparazzi! Capture them when they least expect it. I captured my son just as he came out of the water. Below in the photo, I captured my daughter as she was sitting on the sidelines at the pool. I like how she's not "camera ready" but is so her... something I don't want to forget about her during our trip.

Your challenge: Play paparazzi and then scrap that candid photo.  Upload your layout to the member gallery - you have through next Thursday to share.  The winner of a prize pack from Two Peas will be announced on the Education board.  Are you a digi scrapper?  No problem!  We will give a gift certificate if the winning layout is digital.

Join us tomorrow for our last post of the series as Jen Jockisch shares with us!  Happy Friday!
