Do me a favor. . .

pretty please? Check out the cute party favors inspired by Pinterest projects:

Created by Cathy, this tabletop favor features Penny Black Materials Hello Winter 30-141, Winter Magic 30-134 and Let it Snow 30-086. She used onion paper and embossed it with white snowflakes and then tore to put in strips round the cone, leaving a bit exposed to tease the recipient as to the contents. The snowman was also stamped on onion paper and shaded with Copics.

Edited: Here’s her template . . . and check out Cathy’s blog for a step-by-step tutorial, too!

And look at these cute pillow boxes from Stephanie, too! She made them with Best Witches. Aren’t they adorable?

Do you make your own party favors? We’d love to see them – no matter what they’re for!

Also. . . can you do us another little favor and check out the blog sidebar? We added a few new things we think you might like!

See you on Sunday! – Jenn

Scrapbooking Sunday 2

Hello! Halloween is right around the corner and Penny Black inc. has many fang-tastic stamps to celebrate that Holiday. For this week-end’s page,  I wanted to stir things a little and use a non-traditional stamp on my Halloween page. Slapstick/Cling #40-099 soft wings is such a beautiful detailed stamp that, when used simply with black ink, almost has an eerie quality to it!
I stamped it on a piece of watercolor paper and cut it out. Why watercolor paper, since I didn’t use any paint on it you might ask? Because once it was cut, I slightly added a little bit of water and massaged it with my fingers to give it a lot of dimension. Watercolor paper allows you to do just that and the result is worth the patience!

That “spooky” but not too spooky butterfly was perfect to showcase our Halloween decorations. The title actually comes from our 9 year-old Lily who declared upon seeing our arrangement of pumpkins and corn stalks “it’s not spooky enough”…

Alexandra has more explanations on her blog . . . see you all tomorrow with highlights from Penny Circle!

Penny Black Pinspiration 2

Good morning, and HAPPY FRIDAY!

Penny Black designers have found some FUN color inspiration on Pinterest this week!  Check out some of our Pinterest-inspired projects here, and then try it yourself – post a link to your inspiration and to your finished card. We’d love to see what you can do!

Karen took the citrus hues of this Pinterest image and went wild with her Distress inks.

Penny Black Pinterest Karen

“I created the background by inking my acrylic block with Distress inks…just rubbed yellow, orange and a bit of green and pink onto the block, sprayed with water and stamped.  When it was dry, I stamped over using the All You Need Product #40-092 stamp in orange and green.  I then stamped the sentiment from Gratitude Product #30-105 and mounted that piece with the Mix and Match paper and then onto an embossed background using a Sizzix folder.”

Heather used a little leaf punch to create a mask, then sponged ink onto the panel to create a look reminiscent of the leaves on the Pinterest pin. She used Wishing You  Cardstock: Mix & Match Paper Fall Festival & Olive Grove.

Peet was inspired by these lovely flowers to create this shaped card with Gift of Love & Winter Magic (sentiment):

Penny Black Pinterest Peet

Angela used  Butterfly Kiss 4233k and Inspiring 40-113 on her happy card.

Penny Black Butterfly Wishes

Cathy F found inspiration in the Robin’s egg hues:

Supplies : Penny Black Les Petites Chestnut Creme, Madison Paper Pads, A wish for peace, Mimi’s Winter Friends

Cathy was inspired by the bright summery shades and decided to find an equivalent for each one in Prisma Color pencils.  Here is her swatch of the corresponding colours.

Penny Black Materials Christmas Cheer 30-140, Christmas Fashion 30-127, Puzzle Parts 30-114, Rose Garden  14-003 and Storm 01-001 and 01-003 Mix and Match.

Pinterest is an amazing site where you can store all of kinds of bits and pieces of things you find and love all over the internet and share with anyone and everyone. Penny Black has been pinning our favorites – follow our pins here!

We’ll be back Sunday with some scrapbooking inspiration from Alexandra!  See you then!

Make a joyful noise

Isn’t this tag from Penny Black designer Elizabeth Allan just delightful? She die cut the tag base from a cereal box, then covered it with book text, gesso, and acrylic paint.  Joyful Noise 40-181 (illustrated by Mo Manning) was colored with Copics, then fussy cut and adhered with dimensional foam. She also used In A Pear Tree 30-035 (sentiment), Crystalline 30-018 (snowflakes) on her tag.

Penny Black Pinspiration

Pinterest is an amazing site where you can store all of this bits and pieces of things you find and love all over the internet and share with anyone and everyone. Penny Black has a new account we’ve been pinning to – follow our pins here!

To celebrate, the Penny Black designers have scoured the internet for Winter Wonderland-themed images that inspired them to create with their stamps. Find some of our Pinterest-inspired projects here, and then try it yourself! Post a link to your inspiration and to your finished card. We’d love to see what you can do!

Penny Black Pinterest

Cathy said, “I was drawn to the greys and wintery browns on this picture and loved the random sizes of the white snow falling and the strength from the black tree in the foreground and hoped to capture these elements in my card.  This card would also be suitable for the Help the Heroes ’cause as it has no glitter!”

Penny Black materials used: Crystal Pattern 40-162, Christmas Cheer 30-140, Village Christmas 4205L and Berry Red, Snow White 4202L.

Penny Black Pinterest Challenge

Heather said, “I chose the tree above as my inspiration and started with just some pretty coloured balls on my card. It wasn’t until I decided to sponge some background sky that it transformed into the Northern Lights.”

The tree was stamped first in Versafine Onyx Black and then embossed in clear. Selected balls were colored with Sharpie fineliners before masking the horizon and sponging the sky and snowdrifts using Memento Teal Zeal and Grape Jelly.

Karen was inspired by the snowy scene and pulled out Polar Mimi 4279H, Let is Snow 30-086 and a Sizzix EB folder to create her wintery card.
Penny Black Pinterest
Peet drew inspiration from the icy colors of the snowflake image. Her card uses Fairy Stardust & Winter Magic (sentiment).
Penny Black Pinterest
Alexandra said, “I almost turned on the Christmas music the gallery was so inspiring! Because it is never too early to think “stocking stuffer”, the image inspired me to make this quick and easy mini book  (Mimi’s Mini Book!) I loved the contrast between the aqua and the sense of warmth the image projected. I used watercolor pencils to color Mimi and her baby seal.”  Click for a tutorial for Alexandra’s mini book.

Jawdropping jewel-tones

I don’t know about everyone else, but I am SO ready for this Friday! Partly because it’s the end of a busy week, partly because I get to share some beautiful tags from Penny Black designer Jillian Foster.  These tags, like most all of Jill’s work, feature bold colors and lots of mediums and techniques. The combination of timeless designs, artful image layering, and rich colors on these three distinctly different yet cohesive tags is simply captivating!

Let it snow!

This cool creation comes from Penny Black contributing artist Peet Roeven and features one of Mo Manning’s sweet illustrations, Winter Fairy. Aren’t all of the details exquisite? Just look at all of the perfectly applied glitter! Not to mention the amazing cut work, the paper piecing, the stitching, the dimension. . . it all comes together beautifully in this card.

Paper: Madison Paper Pad
Peet lives in Belgium and started making cards more than 10 years ago. She loves layering, hand stitching, paper piercing, and wet embossing, and shares her creations on her blog, Scrapalbum.

Feast your eyes

on this simple, elegant, and frosty delight from Penny Black designer Cathy Adronicou. It showcases Winter Berries, Crystal Pattern, and a sentiment from Lace Delight. I’m in awe of all of the fussy cutting!  Cathy created it as an anniversary card, but I think it would be just perfect for a winter wedding, or even an “I miss you” kind of card, don’t you?

Penny Black Winter Berries

Cathy hails from the United Kingdom, and shares her stamped artwork on her blog, The Bright Side of Life. Visit for more Penny Black creations!
