Alexandra’s Sunday Scrapbook – Thanksgiving

If you’ve celebrated Thanksgiving, chances are you are still enjoying the warmth of friends and family and left-overs! For this week-end scrapbooking, I wanted to hold on to that warmth a little bit longer by showcasing a picture of our family. Our “big” kids are off to college this year so it was just the three of us!

I combined the Slapstick/Cling “All Over Pattern” with a piece of paper from the Madison collection to create a warm base…with a sketch and a step by step, why don’t you put the kettle on and join me?

And don’t forget. . .

See you tomorrow!

It’s never to late to start your Christmas cards

Today through Friday, we’re sharing some of the beautiful sample cards made for stores that carry Penny Black stamps, along with how-tos. All elegant, all easy-to-recreate . . . Penny Black has done all the thinking for you this season!

Season’s Greetings

Materials

Penny Black: 40-165 Hanging Treasures, 40-170 Harmony, 1999L, Mix and Match Cardstock (07-002, 02-002, White)
Versafine Ink: Onyx Black, Smokey Grey, Toffee; VersaMark Ink;  Distress Ink: Fired Brick, Barn Door, Pumice Stone, Walnut Stain, Brushed Corduroy;

Other: Pearls, Spellbinders Edgeabilities Classic Triple Scallop and Heirloom ornament die (optional), Twine, Diamond Stickles, White Embossing Powder

Instructions

Stamp 40-165 Hanging Treasures with VersaMark Ink, sprinkle with white embossing powder,  heat to set, and cut out.  Apply Fired Brick and Barn Door Distress Ink over embossing, carefully masking center of ornament.  Distress center of ornament with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink.  Stamp sentiment using Onyx Black Ink.  Stamp 40-170 Harmony with Toffee VersaFine Ink onto Mix and Match Cardstock.  Ink edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.  Tear corner.  Stamp 1999L with Smokey Grey Ink.  Ink edges with Walnut Stain and Pumice Stone Distress Ink.  Ink die cut border with Pumice Stone Distress Ink.  Adhere all layers and add pearls, twine, and Stickles.

And a sweet bonus from designer Cathy A:

Cathy A used Madison 80-001, Social Butterfly 30-116 and Salutations 30-014. She said, “My inspiration for this came from the trend of seeing all the hexagon cards on the web and as I only had an octagon die I decided to try that instead with the Madison Papers. The butterfly was created by scrunching up tissue paper and then inking with Tumbled Glass and Broken China Distress Stains, letting it dry and then scrunching again and spritzing with Peacock Green Cosmic Shimmer Mist.   I then embossed the butterfly with black powder when dry.”

All is bright

Penny Circle member NinaB created this absolutely DARLING card featuring the Madison paper pad (that she designed!) and All is Bright (another beauty Nina designed!). She wrote more about it here on her blog. We love the die-cut heart banner tied so sweetly, the pom pom trim on the house, the hand-cut snowdrift, and the bright and happy colors! It’s just perfection!

Another Friday free-for-all! We’ll skip the blahblahblah and get right to the pretties. What do you think?

Therese was inspired by the lovely spring colors and poppies pictured below

“I really love the sideways writing and wanted to try to mimic it on my card.  I stamped the Poppies image (so beautiful) several times directly on patterned paper.  The images were colored with Prismacolor pencils.  I matted the image on black CS and centered it on a embossed CS panel .   I used a Sizzix embossing folder for the panel.  The edges were distressed and inked on the corners with Distress Inks.  The sentiment was from Foliage Fancy which was set off with black gems.”

Karen saw this image

“I used a mask from Mr. Huey and sponged the Distress inks on first.  Leaving the mask in place, I stamped over with the small snowflake from this set:  Let it Snow Product No: 30-086 on top of the sponged areas.  The large snowflake is from Spellbinder that I sponged with more ink before removing it from the die.”

Cathy A was inspired by the doodles here:

And created this fun card -
John Name card
“This one cracks me up as the J has a girl and that just wouldn’t do for a guy, so I only partially inked it and made it into a circus muscle man! Used Zoophabet 30-015, Storm 01-001 and Coral Reef 15-003.”

A monochromatic collage

Designer Heather Telford said, “I created this monochrome collage panel with three shades of brown, two background stamps, an image plus a sentiment. I inked only parts of the background stamps in order that they blend into each other. I also masked parts of the sentiment and added a little handwriting to turn ‘Happy Birthday’ into ‘Oh Happy day’.” Don’t you think it’s pretty? We love the simplicity and vintage feel.

Stamps: Letter Background, Diamond Pattern, Aspire, Happy Birthday

Alexandra’s Sunday Scrapbook #6 – A weekend in Texas

This week-end, I’ve made a page to store all the hand written journaling I kept on our four day trip in Texas. The focus is stamping + heat embossing with Puzzle Parts stamp (#30-114) on a vellum envelope.

Alexandra has a step by step + the sketch for this page on her blog.

Love using decorated envelopes on my scrapbook projects as I find it to be a pretty way to store them and it’s also a very good way to sort of hide the journaling. This weekend’s page also bears a few “recycled” elements such as the gift card, the stamp and the luggage tag…

Thank You! Merci ;-)

Pinterest Inspiration 5

This week, we had a little Pinterest free-for-all. The assignment: find something pretty, make something pretty. I think all of the ladies succeeded, don’t you?

Heather was inspired by the snowy scene here. She said, “I stamped the trees in both Versamark and black before embossing with clear. By stamping the black slightly lower than the Versamark, it is possible to make the branches look snow laden. The moon and snow drifts are made using masks and sponging.”

Stamps:  Christmas Park, Silent Night

Therese loved the tone on tone effect on this letterpress card.  The white pearls on her card are made with Ranger Inkssentials Enamel Accents.

Stamps:  Christmas Magic, Golden Leaves

Karen created the lovely “Joy to the World” card below based on the lovely still life.  I love the little punch of red from the bells and twine, and the elegant embossing folder frame.

Supplies:  leaf sprig Product No: 2926H;  let it snow Product No: 30-086/ Cuttlebug EB folder/ mini bells/ twine

Have you been inspired to create by something you saw on Pinterest or on this blog? Share here! We’d love to see!

With Gratitude – Pinterest Inspiration 4

There’s no shortage of times where we are thankful for both simple kindnesses and grand gestures extended to us, and as temperatures drop and the calendar pages fly (seriously – it’s NOVEMBER already!?), here in the States, we are especially thankful around Thanksgiving. With that in mind, our designers scoured Pinterest for inspiration with the theme of “gratitude” – would you like to see what they created?

Heather was inspired to create this beauty

after seeing this piece of art:

She used Thanks, thanks and Fantasy  as well as Memento inks, markers, and clear embossing powder.

Cathy saw this color combination,

And made this lovely card, saying, “It has cool blue green shades that reflect the current cold spell of weather that we are experiencing, although I have to admit to not being entirely thankful for that, I would far rather have some warm sunshine!”

She used these supplies: Letter Background 1999L, Social Butterfly 30-116, Awakening 4237K, So Blessed 40-132, Madison Paper Pad 80-001 and Sea Breeze 08-001 Mix and Match Cardstock.

Karen saw this

and then masked, sponged over a mask from Mr. Huey with Distress inks then stamped the Hill Flowers in black and the sentiment.  I also added scoring lines just to give it all a clean edge.

Therese shared this one before she knew about the Pinterest challenge – I thought it fit in perfectly!

Background was colored in alcohol inks on glossy paper.
Stamps used: 3984K Inclinations, 40-074 Warm Wishes, & 30-103 Wishes

Alexandra used emboss resist to create this card with Flower Flourish:

Last, but certainly not least, we have a little peek to share from Jill:

Come back on Wednesday for another installment of PB&J to learn more about the technique used, and to see the full picture!

As always, we are grateful for YOU . . . thanks for stopping by today!

See y’all Sunday – Jenn

Blog Post

Please extend a warm welcome to our newest designer

Meet Therese Schaffer! This New Yorker calls Texas home, and has written a short bio to tell everyone more about herself:

“I am a SAHM to 2 children who keep me very busy. I have dabbled in some sort of craft since I was a child. My first introduction to stamping was at a SU! party 5 years ago. I had no idea what this party entailed but once I got my hands on those stamps and inks, I was completely hooked. I started sharing my cards on Flickr just last year and finally created a blog a few months ago. I lean toward a clean and simple look (love white space) but I am willing to try different techniques and mediums for a different effect. I have always loved Penny Black stamps. My first ever set of clear stamps were Spooky and Holly-Jolly – love those little critters (especially Hedgie)! The collection has vastly multiplied! I am so very thankful to Shaida for this opportunity. I am very excited to be on the Penny Black design team and am looking forward to working with the rest of these talented women and sharing my work with you all.”

Therese shares her creations on her blog, Cardography, and has sent us a few of her favorites to share here:

Stamps used:  Free Flight 30-117 , Warm Wishes 40-074 , Sweet Home 40-054 , Gratitude 30-105

There is glitter on the furry parts of the birds’ hats.  Also, Therese added flock on the snow that these cute little birds are standing on.  The images were colored with Prismacolor Pencils. Here’s a close up:

Make sure to say “Hi!” to Therese, and see what she contributed to this week’s Pinterest challenge, too!

Another card you can’t resist . . .

On Sunday, we shared a lovely page featuring an emboss resist technique from designer Alexandra. She also made this cool card using the same technique. For a refresher (or in case you missed it!), click here.

Here’s the whole card:

A beauty, isn’t it?

See y’all tomorrow with some more Pinterest-inspired art AND an announcement! – Jenn
