Earth Friendly Friday- Recycled Thrift Store Find

I LOVE visiting the local thrift stores!
I feel like it's a treasure hunt, don't always find something amazing...
but when I do!  Happy days!
I always check out the frames and look for the unusual or unique.
my favorite are these types

They are some type of plastic with a cardboard/chipboard type picture.
PERFECT for updating and having fun with.

For my project today I took off the picture ( it is held in by tiny screws)
I then spray painted the frame an Ivory color
then I began decorating the chipboard oval.
Since it's Autumn, and the season to focus on reasons to be thankful
I thought a little reminder in my kitchen would be nice.
I first layered the background with Believe from the Festive Collection
added some of the awesome swoon worthy  orange herringbone pattern from Enchanted
and letter stickers from Carefree to spell out my sentiment
a little bit of mixing and matching of AP products :)
I love that they all work together so well!
Flowers are from Petaloo
Thanks so much for stopping by the Authentique Blog today,
and maybe I'll see you at the thrift store!
We've got to get busy on those holiday gifts don't we!!?!

Authentique Road Trip - Part 2

If you missed Tuesday's blog post {Part 1 of our road trip - Authentique style}, be sure to jump back and take a look!

The goal of our tour across Utah, Nevada and Northern California was to visit retail partners who support the Authentique brand by purchasing our products every month, as our new collections are released. To continue the recap of our two week adventure, let's get started!

We made the windy drive up Hwy 17 from Santa Cruz to San Jose to visit "the island" - Scrapbook Island to be official. We not only love Laurie from years of working together, but she has owned and operated this gorgeous store for over 10 years! She has created a home-away-from-home for many of her loyal customers, and she truly is a charming woman!

Sam, Laurie (owner, Scrapbook Island) & Bret

During our store visit we were able to meet and greet with about a dozen ladies spending the afternoon cropping in the classroom. Below are a couple of die-hards we were able to meet!

Layouts from the talented ladies on "the island"

**Scrapbook Island is also the "home store" of Janeen Shember (Suburbngypsy)...if you don't know Janeen, look her up! She is one of the most funky, creative & talented gals we've ever met! Sadly, Janeen had to work her "day job" and wasn't able to swing by to say hello. We missed you Janeen!

Next up is a very well organized and super-cute store who has supported Authentique Paper from the beginning! We were thrilled to visit the beautiful city of Cupertino and meet Vivian and Gwen from Memories Live On.

Memories Live On, Cupertino, CA

Sam, Vivian (owner, Memories Live On) and Gwen (a rockstar employee)

One of two...or three "Authentique" sections in the store

After Cupertino, we made the trek toward the bay area to visit one of the most talked about scrapbook stores in the country...Scrapbook Territory. This store has one of the coolest exteriors we have ever seen. Step inside, and it just keeps getting better!

Berkeley, CA

The front door of Scrapbook Territory

Diane, owner of Scrapbook Territory was kind enough to step away from a meeting to walk us around her store and give us a run-down of how she has been successful in this business for 10 years! She is a genuine lady and made us feel welcome in her store. We were also able to chat with a couple of employees in the store...let me tell you, Diane has done a great job training her staff, these ladies were so knowledgeable and friendly!

Sam, Diane (owner of Scrapbook Territory) & Bret ***After standing next to Diane & Bret, (he's 6'4"!!)... I felt like I was the total "shorty" of the group (and I'm 5'8" tall)!

Our next stop was to It's Scrapbook Time...sadly, we missed Michelle (one of the owners), but we were able to meet her superb hubby, Kyle...come to find out, Kyle is quite the scrapbooker himself, making many of the page kits they sell in their store!

Bret & Kyle (co-owner) It's Scrapbook Time, Antioch, CA

Our last stop was certainly not the "least"...Richard's Crafts is an AMAZING craft store in Northern California. They have two locations, one in Alamo, CA and the other in Livermore, CA. This store offers the selection of a big-box craft store, but the personalized service of an independent retailer. They are a privately held company and they absolutely take pride in being friendly and helpful to all of their loyal customers! We were able to take a deep breath and visit with Linette and her excellent helper, daughter Davette. These ladies have created a dynamite scrapbooking section and we are proud to be represented by Richard's Crafts!

Bret, Davette and Linette, Richard's Crafts in Alamo,CA.

Well, this pretty much wraps up our adventure, it was so much fun! We created memories to last a lifetime and strengthened relationships with some wonderful people. We learned many valuable lessons that will be translated into our future product offering. Sometimes in life it's hard to take the time needed to make a long trek, away from home, but each moment was fulfilling and worth more than we'll ever know.

As our company mission states, we are committed to promoting the belief that being genuine is the only way to live. We genuinely love our retail partners and consumers. We strive to create products (made exclusively in the USA) which enhance the authentic side in each of us, and we are proud to produce products with this in mind!

If you live near one of the stores we visited, next time you are there, please be sure to check out the latest and greatest from Authentique Paper. Tell them we sent you and that you read about them on our blog!

Wishing you all the very best,

Sam & Bret

Road trip - Authentique style!

After almost a year and a half of building and growing Authentique Paper, Bret and I (Samantha) decided to hit the road and tour some of our retail accounts. We wanted to see first-hand how our vision was being translated in the "real" world. It was a humbling and unique experience to see our product as well as visiting our retail partners in their store (and not just at a trade show), without the filter of the telephone or social media to hide behind.

Mid-way between Utah & Nevada...the Salt Flats

Over the next couple of blog posts, we will attempt to capture a few of the highlights of our two week, yes....two week road trip across Utah, Nevada and Northern California. We were able to visit almost a dozen stores...and to be completely honest, we managed to squeeze in a little play-time too!

Without further adieu...in {somewhat} chronological order, here's a re-cap of our road trip...Authentique style!

We had the opportunity to meet Laura (owner), her mother and one of her great employees...Scrapbook Paradise has been around for years and they have figured out a secret to success...it's no wonder they are a successful store in Nevada.

As we drove through Reno and made our way over the Donner Pass in Truckee/Tahoe, CA, we were tempted by the majestic mountain scenery to stop and play a round of golf. The temperature was just-right and this little pit-stop was a great way to start our trip!

Bret & Sam in Tahoe, CA.

Donner Lake, Truckee, CA

Green Tangerines, Rockin, CA.

Kelly, owner of Green Tangerines has created an environment unlike anything we've ever seen in our collective 20+ years in the paper-craft industry. This store is clean, modern and absolutely gorgeous.

Memories for the Making is an adorable store where local ladies go to gather with their friends to scrapbook. Teran, the owner, is so sweet and friendly, she even popped in on her day off to visit with Bret and me, and we were thrilled to the our handmade Authentique display front and center in her store!

Teran (owner), Bret, Sam and Amy

Here are a few projects we spotted during our visit at Memories for the Making featuring Authentique Paper:

As we continued to make our way out west, we stopped in Monterey, CA for the weekend. If you have never been to this part of the world, it is breath taking!

Monterey Bay on a Saturday morning before the fog cleared.

We spent the next couple of days with good friends and business associates...at this point in the trip we met up with Ginger Essick, owner of Paperoni, a company which is best known for making cards for the troops overseas. The gals who work with Ginger make cards for all occasions and send them to American soldiers so they can send home a card to their family members for a birthday or other special occasion. Ginger's efforts are all done out of the kindness of her heart, and she donates both her time and money for this cause.

Ginger also spoiled us by treating us to a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play golf at her exclusive country club. Below are a couple of photos from our perfect afternoon on the links at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club...

View of the ocean from the Monterey Peninsula Country Club

 Ginger Essick (Paperoni) and Sam

Ginger and Bret

We capped off the first half of our trip by meeting up with one of the most friendly, warm and magical ladies in the industry...Vickie has years of experience in retail management and purchasing, she is a great woman and we were thrilled she was able to make time to let us interrupt her busy day!

Bret, Vickie from Beverly's Fabrics and Sam

Terry & Sam at Beverly's in CA

Terry is a true gem. She is so friendly, a very talented crafter, and a super smart lady! We enjoyed our tour of the Beverly's corporate offices and were able to gain a little bit of an insiders perspective of how they run this great company!

We have tons of other photos to share from our road trip and hope you'll check back on Thursday to see the rest of our adventure!

Pinspired Monday - Quatrefoil

Hello Authentique friends!  JJ here today, with my take on "Pin-spired Monday".   Lately, I've been very drawn to quatrefoil patterns, so I took my inspiration from this 'Pin':

I incorporated the quatrefoil design into my layout by die-cutting simple black cardstock and using the pieces like trim or lace on my page:

It almost looks like iron-work when used for a Hallowe'en theme, but in another colour it could be light and airy.  I like the added texture it gives, while still allowing the beautiful paper beneath to show through.

Details and Elements stickers and letters finish off the page, including this journaling spot.  I love it when journaling can also be an embellishment!  Tracing around the stickers gives them a little extra definition against a busy background like this one.

Mummy's the Word this Halloween

Authentique Paper and Petaloo are teaming up over the
next couple of days to bring you tons of inspiration using
 Authentique Paper and Petaloo products!

After you check out the projects here on the Authentique
Paper blog, be sure to head on over to the Petaloo blog to
find out what the talented members of their Design Team
have in store for you today!
-------------------------------------------------------------

Shellye here today with a Friday Greetings to our sensational
blog hop with Petaloo.  I've been a Petaloo fan pretty much
since it's inception, so I was pretty much ecstatic when it
was announced that we would be creating with
Enchanted & Petaloo!

I love a mini.
I just get a kick out of starting with a blank album,
covering it with pretty paper and then embellishing it to the
hilt with fun stickers, ribbons and embellishments.
 It makes this girl *happy!*

I started with a scrolled album from KaiserCraft, which I
covered in different patterned papers from the
Enchanted Collection.
The front cover, to me, is like designing a card.
You want the WOW factor...you want to invite people
into your album :) So I always spend a little more time
trying to get the cover just right.  I layered a couple of
different sizes of ovals (covered in Enchanted) and
then embellished with the totally  adorable ghost and
spider from Petaloo's Mummies Dazzlers and
 flowers from FloraDoodles Mixed Blooms-Sienna
 and Black Beaded Peonies.

Using Authentique's cardstock sticker shapes and sentiments
makes mini album making fun and easy!

Velvet Hydrangeas?  Yes, please!
Black velvet just screams Halloween...and Elvis paintings
(sorry, I couldn't resist!)
I created small photo mats using strips of various
Enchanted papers, which I simply machine stitched into place.

On the final two pages, I added the top of a cupcake
pick and a 3-D brad, along with Enchanted 12x12
Detail Stickers.
I like to 'hide' the edges of thick album pages, so I applied
a thick orange jute around the perimeter.  A gingham bow to
the ring completes the mini album and is ready now for photos!
--------------------------------------------------------

Be sure to check back every day this week for more project
inspiration! We have an Authentique Prize Pack to give away
to one of our lucky commenters (please leave unique
comments!) Winner will be announced here on the blog on Monday! Also, make sure you stop and visit us as well as
our friends  over at Petaloo for prizes and lots of
wonderful  inspiration coming your way!  Also, make sure
you stop by the Petaloo Facebook Page and tell them

Día de los Muertos Decor & an Enchanted Mini Album!

As soon as I saw the Black Beaded Peonies, I knew what I wanted to make. I had previously found a cute wooden skull at my local craft store knowing that I was going to make a Calavera (skull) for the Day of the Dead. One of my co-workers teaches Spanish, and her students make altars for the Día de los Muertos / Day of the Dead celebration at our local museum. I plan on gifting this to her for the celebration this year.

I decided early on that my calavera was a girl, so I could use even more flowers on her. I started the entire process by adhering the back of the Spellbound paper to the thin wood with spray adhesive. I really enjoyed the light color, and knew that it would look the closest to the color of a skull. I then used a craft knife to cut around it all.
Where the holes in the face were, I just adhered peices of paper behind so they would peek out (Bewitched and Charmed). The eyes also needed somewhere to hold the gorgeous Petaloo Black Beaded Peonies.
I also handcut the flowers and cheekbones, then used a white pen to add some more interest.
I had the most fun with the hair. I used my 3L Dodz to stick all of the Orange Velvet Hydrangeas and a few leaves to the top of her head like hair. To make her even more feminine I added a cute Black Velet Hydrangea as an accent.

The last details were the cute little spider and the iRock gem designs. I couldn't resist the spider Dazzler (even though I'm not a fan in real life!) Then I used the Memento Ink in Gray Flannel around her head, nose and mouth.

Authentique: Enchanted Collection: Spellbound, Bewitched, Charmed
Petaloo: Orange Velvet Hydrangeas, Black Beaded Peonies, Black Velvet Hydrangeas

I am so excited to share my mini album with you today
It is is one of my favorite projects in a LONG time!
I absolutely LOVE Petaloo, Halloween and Authentique
so you can imagine how much fun I had making it.
The Enchanted patterns and the amazing cardstock stickers
really do make things like this come together so easily....
add some gorgeous flowers and sparkly spiders and it's a match made in heaven!!

I decided to break out my cuttlebug and a great sizzix die to create the base of this album,
using black cardstock as my base to make it just a bit sturdier.

Here's a look at the finished product

This orange herringbone pattern is swoon worthy if you ask me :)

Here's a peek at the inside pages,

Isn't this ghost the cutest!?!  He did come white but I wanted him to match the tone of the patterned paper so I used my Tim Holtz Distress stain in Vintage paper and just distressed him a bit...worked like a charm!

and the big finish..the last page in the album!

Decorate Your Home for Halloween with Authentique Paper & Petaloo!

Loes de Groot

Hello and welcome to day three!

I decided to make a Happy Halloween board to hang by my door. I love this time of the year when the harvest is in and the day's are shorter....... and of course, Halloween!

I painted the wooden tray, it was a present with candles on it so the candles are gone. I re-purposed the tray and turned it into a Halloween decor piece!

I made a cord beneath the tray so the Halloween banner could hang below.

I'm in love with the little spiders!

It was so much fun to play with the flowers, butterflies, spiders and mummies from Petaloo, they mixed so well with the stickers & papers from Authentique!
Products Used:
Authentique:  Enchanted 12x12 papers, details, elements stickers
Petaloo: velvet butterflies orange, velvet hydrangeas orange, beaded peonies, small black, dazzlers mummies

Janeen Shember

I love my Petaloos - and when I received my box of goodies, the butterflies immediately caught my eye. The gorgeous deep orange - just the right shade to compliment our Enchanted paper. But what to make..
Then I remembered seeing vintage mounted insects in a museum book and voila!

Halloween Under Glass

I used paper from Enchanted, and two different dies from Tim Holtz's Sizzix Alterations to create the tiny branch. It's delicate enough for the daintiest butterfly.

Around the base is florist's moss and more Petaloos - this time their hydrangeas in black and orange. Some twists of different black ribbons and a scientific label finish off this spookily beautiful little piece.

Adding flowers to any project is a plus for me.  I love working with flower, so when I heard we got to work with Petaloo products...I was thrilled.  Once again...my cute little neighbor, Blayke, is the subject of my layout.   Here is a look at my my project!

I used the Enchanted Collection for this layout and all of the flowers are Petaloo!  I love clustering my flowers, so that is what I did here.

I made these cute Halloween magnetic clothes pins.. They are large wooden ones I got

something fun with them.
Well then, I got these cute mummy's and spider foam stickers from the Petaloo colletction.
Topped with some of their amazing flowers and butterflies.. and perfectly paired with the "Enchanted" line of papers. I know these will add some cuteness to my fridge door this season!!

Recycled Home Decor with Authentique Paper & Petaloo

Authentique Paper and Petaloo are teaming up over the next couple of days to bring you tons of inspiration using Authentique Paper and Petaloo products!

We are all about recycling here (if you haven't noticed that already). My husband  is always finding "trash" for me to re-purpose into neat projects & home decor pieces. A few months ago he brought home a bunch of old picture frames that someone was throwing away. So my first thought was to make something with them!

I was really drawn to this frame. The dimension and design on it screamed "Enchanted!"

I painted the frame with a matte black spray paint, it was previously an antique gold color, which was not going to work for my project. Here you can see the neat detail. Adding the beautiful flowers from Petaloo was just the icing on the cake for this project.

The dimensional flowers were made from recycled toilet paper rolls. I cut them into strips and spray painted them then added a little shimmer with some glimmer mist. I used stickers from the "Enchanted" 12x12 Details sticker sheet for the centers of the flowers.

I thought that the little spiders were just the cutest little things! I had to add them on here somewhere... and I am NOT a fan of spiders... I'm actually terrified of them. These however, are simply adorable and were the perfect addition to my Halloween home decor project!

Pinspired: Herringbone Patterns

Herringbone always reminds me of Fall. Probably because it looks like tweed, and tweed reminds me of professors, which always makes me think of the start of school. Herringbone is very similar to chevrons, which are super popular now, but a little easier to recreate without a die cutting machine if you are so inclined. Here are a few of my favorite pins that all incorporate Herringbone patterns right now.

As you can see, the shape is fairly simple. I tend to like the squared off herringbone patterns. I saw this image of a print, and knew that I wanted to incorporate it into a layout.

I really enjoyed that the herringbone pattern was clearly evident, but it allowed for some of the negative space to minimize the busy pattern behind the white paint.

To recreate this look, I used my Cameo to create an overlay using a herringbone background file that I found in the store. I knew that I was going to use some of the pieces to fill in negative space, so was careful not to damage too many of them when removing them from the mat.  I really love the Studious paper, and knew that I needed to use it for my background.
I just filled in spaces where I knew that my items that I also wanted to include were not going to cover. If you want to do something similar, I suggest placing pieces back, and gluing them down all at once. If you feel that something is missing, and you need more pieces, add more.
I also wanted to include a few details to make this special: a series of 3's cut from strips of the Interested paper for my daughter's age in these photos, a few stickers, a journaling block and a rosette that I also cut, then decorated with paper and a Details sticker.
I had originally cut two rosettes, but they took over the layout, so I chose to add a Maya Road Trinket star instead. This large rosette is actually two cuts, that were both stretched so that they were taller than the original size.

I really hope that you find inspiration for your paper projects in all kinds of sources. ~Heather

Earth Friendly Friday.. paper container!

Hi everyone, Angie Blom here with another
 Earth Friendly Authentique Friday.
I wanted to make something using these amazing Halloween papers
"Enchanted" , I am a big fan of the season
and love to make some different things to hold
candy to give  the teacher for her desk.

here are the steps to make this Halloween container.

step one: you will need a piece of the Enchanted 12x12 paper
I used "spooked" paper
some mod podge and a container from your recycling bin..
I am using a large cottage cheese container.

step 2: you are going to need to  spray your paper very lightly on one side .. enough to
soften it lightly.

step 3:  on the side you did not spray with water you
will need to add alot of mod podge,
cover the whole sheet.

step 4:  turning the container over and placing the paper
with the mod podge on the outside of the container..
form your paper around the container..
step5: with 2 strips of paper mod podge one side and wrap it around the folds..
now your paper might tear in sections.. that is okay.. you can press them together
with some mod podge.
step 6: let dry completely and then add another generous
coat of mod podge all over the outside.

Once dry.. you can decorate using the Enchanted stickers , you have a great variety
of styles and shapes of stickers that are just perfect .
Here is the candy holder.. It will sit lovely on the teacher's desk this year.

Now if you are going to someones house for a Halloween Party or dinner.. this would also look lovely with a plant inside.. it would make a great hostess gift!!

Hope you enjoyed this Earth Friendly Authentique project , would love to see you try it..
and if you do please link it up to the Authentique Facebook page.. we always love seeing your
creations.
Have a wonderful Friday
Hugs,
Angie
xoxo

HUESday fun & a few announcements!

We know not all of our fans are on Facebook and we don't ever want you to miss out on the action on our Facebook page, so we thought it would be fun to share a post from Friday which was a total random act of color-matching!

Our owners, Bret and Samantha noticed about 5:30pm that their individual outfits were a perfect match to two of our collections released this summer.

Do you know which collections they are holding up to show off their coordinating outfits? The photo doesn't show it, but Bret's shoes match too!

Also, if you frequently check out the homepage of our website or the products section, you may have noticed a couple of new collections pop up last week...

The first is a true denim & leather inspired collection called "Original" & the second is a fall/Thanksgiving collection titled "Thankful".

When you find the perfect pair of jeans, you want them in every color... the same applies to pretty paper! "Original" is an encore to our best-selling "Genuine" collection; we, along with our customers, wanted more! The denim-inspired feel is continued, and we've added in a hint of leather, yet this collection is centered around being "you...wonderful, unique, original you!" The papers and sticker embellishments are universal and akin to denim, a staple and compliment to any project. Original is set to be an October release, but we are shipping it to many stores who have requested to receive it ahead of schedule. You will love playing with this line, it just "feels" right - with our signature heavy-weight textured paper, the look of denim is highlighted beautifully!

"Thankful" was created as a response to overwhelming requests for Authentique Paper (that's us!) to release a Thanksgiving/fall collection...our holidays have been reported as some of the top selling collections in stores, so it seemed logical for us to create a line for this autumn season. Nostalgic colors and patterns will take you back to your childhood and remind you of family gatherings. This was a surprise collection, not shown at the Summer CHA show, this is the first official time we have shown it to anyone! Thankful arrived in our warehouse on Friday and is set to officially release in October, but we're happy to ship it early so you can get started on designing some fun fall decor or other creative projects!

For a full view of BOTH of these collections, be sure to check out the Products page on our website!

Pin-spired Monday: Haunted Treehouse

Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday. Ghosties, goblins, bat and cats, boney feet and witches hats. Who can resist?? Not me!

So off I went to Pinterest and this is what I found - a haunted house!

Which led me to create...
a haunted treehouse!

The treehouse itself is built with a Configuration cabinet, lined with papers from our Enchanted line. Once the sections are covered in paper and the edges covered with paper tape the real fun begins - creating each scene!

The Apothecary's Shoppe is my favorite. I loved mixing potions and poisons for these tiny bottles.

All of the potion bottles have labels made with stickers from the Enchanted collection.
I used a combination of different things to fill each one.

~ Allow 24 hours for the bottles that use Glossy Accent in them to set properly. ~
~ Sand and distress the stickers before adhering them to the bottles for extra creepiness ~
~ Rub ink on the corks to make those look older too ~

~ Potion Recipes ~

"Poison"
"Slate" alcohol ink
Glossy Accent
cat litter
~ pour a small amount of Glossy Accent in the bottle and add cat litter.
~ twist and turn the bottle to mix and coat the inside of the glass
~ add a few drops of alcohol ink
~ twist and turn the bottle to mix
~ set bottle on its side to set, occasionally turning the bottle to remix and smear the sides

"Witch's Brew"
"Red Pepper" alcohol ink
Glossy Accent
~ pour a small amount of Glossy Accent in the bottle
~ add a few drops of alcohol ink
~ twist and turn the bottle to mix
~ set bottle on its side to set, occasionally turning the bottle to remix and smear the sides

"Eye of Spider"
Black Sparkly Fluff
~ tip a small amount of Sparkly Fluff into the bottle

"Beware" vapor
"Meadow" alcohol ink
cotton ball
~ add a few drops of alcohol ink
~ twist and turn the bottle to coat the sides of the bottle
~ put a small amount of glue on the inside lip of the bottle
~ attach a small amount of cotton from the cotton ball
~ hold in place and lightly pull to make wisps

~ Products Used ~
Paper - Enchanted - Authentique
Configuration Cabinet - Tim Holtz
Wooden Tree - Kaisercraft
Black acrylic paint
Black embossing powder
Assorted tiny bottles with corks
Bird Cage - Idea-ology
Crows
Skeleton
