Gesso and Gelato Stamping - With a Video

LifeIsArt
Hi!! Lisa with you here again and I'm super excited to have a VIDEO for you today. Woohoo! I was super excited to learn a nifty new way to use my Gesso in card-making and I thought I'd show you all how I used it in the above card. It's so easy and so fun! You can even TINT the Gesso with your Gelatos® if you want to give the Gesso a different color other than white.

Here are the supplies that I used and I hope that you enjoyed the video...even in double-time! ;)

Have a great day!

Lisa web Sig

Cross-stitch, silk ribbon embroidery...I love the creative process! I first looked into making cards as a way to keep in touch with family and friends after moving to CA in 2008 and wanting more than store-bought cards could offer. In my eyes cards are personal mini-pieces of art and a part of your soul that you are sending through the mail. I love dimension and color. LOTS of color.

Doodling with Gelatos®

Project 2 5-25-13
Hello, welcome back! Meihsia here sharing with you a project that I've always enjoyed doing with -- doodling. Here are some quick steps showing how I made this cute coaster that kids will also love to use or create with doodling and some awesome Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® products.

First, I cut the linen canvas paper into a 4" circle, drew an elephant using a pencil. Colored the image and background with Gelatos®.

Covered the image and background with a thin layer of Gesso to make the colors softer.

Stamped randomly on the background with the text stamp.

Drew some lines to make the image more interesting.

The final step is covering the front and back of the coaster with Glaze. I did it twice to make sure the coaster is totally sealed and waterproof.
Project 2 5-25-13

Made another fun and cute coaster here using the same technique and products.

Hope you get a chance to try some doodling and these great products.

Have fun!  ^_^

Ombré Cards with Gelatos

Hello Friends! alexandra here with a tutorial on how to make Ombré Cards with Gelatos. Here are some examples I've made...

TUTO:
To make them, you'll need some watercolor paper, masking tape, a few Gelatos, a paint brush and some water.
Use four strips of masking tape to frame your card.
Apply various hues of Gelatos on top of each other.
Blend colors with a wet brush.
When dry, stamp a sentiment or an image. Heat emboss.
And add an embellishment.
The second card was done exactly the same way.
For the third card, I started the same way but instead of stamping a sentiment and heat embossing it...

I applied a small amount of gesso directly onto the stamp.

Alexandra

Thank You! Merci!

Faux Wood Texture and Batik effect

Hello Everyone!!
Isha here, sharing my 2nd. post as Guest Designer at Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®. Today I want to share how I created the Faux Wood look using Stamper’s Big Brush Pens and Glaze. I also created a Faux Batik effect on paper using Paper Crafter Crayons™ and Stamper’s Big Brush Pen.

All the products are amazing as I told you before and the color code system by Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® makes it easy to pick the right colors/products.
I created Two Clean and Simple cards using various products on each card.
Card: 1
This is how I created it:

For the Faux Wood effect I used the Stamper’s Big Brush Pens onto my cardstock. I then mixed them using water but left the streaks of different shades. I then let it dry.

Once it was dry, I ran it through my Woodgrain embossing plate. To give the extra shine, I applied Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®  Glaze. It takes some time to dry but the effect is just stunning.
For the Faux Paper Batik effect, I colored a paper using the Paper Crafter Crayons™, in a ombre effect. Once colored, crush the paper and then flatten it.

Now scribble Stamper’s Big Brush Pen on the acrylic block and mix a bit of water. Brush this onto the colored paper. Dry with the paper tissue.

Cut the center out of the frame and put some twine. Now stamp the sentiment using the Stamper’s Big Brush Pen. Since the base has crayon it doesn't give a deep impression but you can always go over it with the pen and you will have a perfect sentiment.
Card: 2

For my 2nd. card, I used the center piece, which I had cut from the frame. Used it as a wood panel.
Now I die cut a flower. I colored on the flower using some Gelatos® and blended it using water. Finally assemble the card.
Have fun creating!!!
Supplies:

Card 1:
Paper Crafter Crayons™  (Neutral: White, Gold, Yellow Ocher, Brown)
Stamper’s Big Brush Pen (Black, Cobalt Turquoise, Neutral set)
Glaze
Card 2:
Gelatos® (Tea, Pistachio, Metallic: Rose)
Stamper’s Big Brush Pen (Black, Neutral set)
Glaze

Lace and Gelatos

Hello Everyone!

Elena Olinevich is here and I am very excited to share my first post as a Guest Designer at Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®. It is such a pleasure to play with these awesome products as you can mix them as you want and they match each other perfectly.

I like experimentig with the color and today I am ready to show some steps on how to create summer background. I am sure you will have plenty of spring - summer photos and all you will need is to pick some of your favorite colors as well.

CanvasSpringElenaOlinevichMain

I adore using lace and various trims, and I am addicted to use mediums on my projects too, that is why I decided to combine them.

LaceBgTut1

I started with gluing the lace trims onto canvas using Gel Medium and big brush. I did it randomly but you can prepare a sketch before.

LaceBGTut2

After Lace trims have been completely dried (it took me one noght) I started applying Gelatos of blue and green colors. To blend them use your fingers or the Stipple Brush, as the lace is textural and it takes more efforts to belnd it well.

LaceBgTut3

Mist some areas with water for better blending of the colors. Add more accents with blue  or any different colors.

LaceBGTut4

To highlight some of the areas, I used Gesso and a sponge. I applied it over and there as it creates a resist effect for the next Gelato covering.

LaceBGTut5

I used yellow and grey colors to create the dandelion spots on the background. If you feel that you need more light colors you can add more Gesso, as it is layered amazingly on the lace .

CanvasFlowersElenaOlinevich

I applied Gelato on the flowers too

CanvasChipboardElenaOlinevich

and on the chipboard as well.

CanvasAlphasElenaOlinevich

I covered canvas alphas with Gelato and lined with Artists Pens.

Thank you so much for stopping by today! I hope I have inspired to use some trims from your stash and color them as you desire. If you would like to watch more tips and some of my works, you are welcome to visit my blog.

Supply List:

Gel Medium

Gelatos® Designer Colors - 50's Diner

Gelatos® Color 4ct - GREEN

Metallic Gelatos® Color & Clear Stamp

Gesso

Essential PITT® Artist Pens: BLACK

Tailor-made background with Art GRIP® Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils

Walking-on-sunshine

Hello Faber-Castell fans!

Emmy's here with my first post as a Guest Designer for Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft.

I had this cute picture from my best friend's little girl and I was wondering for a long time what would be the best way to desplay it. And after I saw the bright yellow and red Art GRIP® Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils I knew in an instant that the best way is to create my own background paper.

I started with white cardstock, 12" background mask and Art GRIP® Aquarelles: YELLOW (#770111). I used five different colors to create my dotted frame.

Walking-on-sunshine-det-a

After I was done drawing, I added just water to get this amazing watercolor painting effect. The best thing about the Art GRIP® Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils is that the watercolor pigments dissolve completely and are permanent, waterproof and lightfast when dry. So you can add layer upon layer of different colors, media and textural acents and your colors won't change even a bit.

Walking-on-sunshine-det-b

After the water was dry, I used another mask with a floral motive and Gel Medium (#770303) to give extra dimension to my background paper.

Walking-on-sunshine-det-c

Walking-on-sunshine-det-d

For my title I used Tickers and Paper Crafter Crayons™ RED/YELLOW (#770520)

Walking-on-sunshine-det-e

the colors look perfect together and they covered the letters completely.

Walking-on-sunshine-det-f

I did a lot of stamping on my layout, using the Stamper's Big Brush Pens - Stamper's Big Brush 3 ct. NEUTRAL (#770054). Mixing colors directly on the stamp was never easier!

As a final touch I added transperent semi-gloss Glaze to my flowers.

Walking-on-sunshine-det-g

I hope you enjoyed my post today!

Come back tomorrow for more inspiration from our design team!

hugs 'n smiles,

Emmy

Mixed Media House using Gelato®

Hello, Faber-Castell fans, Meihsia here sharing with you some quick steps to make these cute mixed media houses using my favorite Faber-Castell Design, Memory, Craft® products.
(You may click on the picture for a lager view)

First, I prepared the materials and tools including Gelato®, Stamper's Big Brush Pen®, Gesso, Gel Meduim, sequin waste ribbon and an old book page, etc.
I also cut a piece of linen canvas paper (size about 3" x 7") into a house shape.

After I drew some lines of the roof, window and door on the paper, I pasted some ripped small pieces of old book page using Gel Medium.

I applied different colors of Gelato on the paper randomly and black Gelato on the roof then used brush pen with water to spread the colors.

Next, I added a thin layer of Gesso to blend with all the colors and made colors softer.  Then edged the house and outlined the window and door with black Gelato.

Drew some scalloped lines and shaded the window and door using the white Stamper's Big Brush Pen. I also used the Dot Dabber and sequin waste ribbon to make more texture.

After adding the cutout embellishments, I added a layer of Glaze to make a beautiful sheen and protect the surface.

I used the same techniques and made two more houses except on the left house, I used the Palette Knife and sequin waste ribbon to add Gesso on it.
And on the middle house, I used Gelato and white Stamper's Big Brush Pen to make bubbles and added some stamped text.

I really hope you will try these fun techniques and wonderful products, and make some cute little houses when you get a chance.

Happy creating!!  ^_^

Stamper's Big Brush Pen:® black 199, cold grey III, white, 101
Gelatos Tool Set®: Palette Knife, Dot Dabber
Faber-Castell Gel Medium, Gesso, Glaze

Other Supplies: Strathmore Acrylic linen canvas, Tim Holtz ideaology paper stash and stamp, Spare Parts metal embellishments
