Tecniques & Textures

RBarakatCanvasMini1

Hat

Hi everyone! RIta Barakat here with a few techniques using Gelatos!

Did you know that Gelatos work on canvas?
They are so versitale! I used a mini canvas album -
I dry embossed it and went over the top lightly with Gelatos!

They look beautiful on chipboard as well!
I used the gold metallic Gelato on top of the colors on
the chipboard bird - you can really see it in the middle!

I used the Stampers Big Brush to stamp the image and
go around the edges with a sponge. I love the way  it came out!

I used the same sponge for the edges of the paper rosette.RBarakatCanvasMini5
Here I used texture paste & Gelatos- depending on what brand you use this is modeling paste, artist spackle, heavy or medium gel. I scribbled on my non stick mat with the Gelatos, added the paste and mixed it up. If I wanted darker colors I added more Gelato to the mat and moved the paste over to blend.
I used a stencil and a plastic knife to spread and set it aside to dry. Depending on which compund you use it can dry pretty quickly.

RBarakatCanvasMini4
Here I drew all over the canvas with red and yellow Gelatos, sprayed with water and blended. I wanted more of a subtle finish so I went back over with the white Gelato, sprayed with water again. The felt flower was grey - I colored my non stick mat with red and white Gelatos, sprayed it with water and wiped  it up with my felt flower. After it was dry (you can use a  heat gun) I doodles on the edges with my PITT® Artist Pens.

RBarakatCanvasMini3
Here you can see the same techniques I used on the other pages - these are so easy and you can see how you can come up with many different looks!

RBarakatCanvasMini6
I hope you take the time to explore these techniques!
I love the Gelatos becasue there is so much you can do with them!

Victorian Homes with Art Grip Colored Pencils

Hi! It's Jill here sharing a card I created with simple stamping and coloring using our Art GRIP® Color Pencils.  I love how smooth and effortless these pencils are when it comes to blending and shading.  And of course, you can't beat the vibrant colors.

Unique gift box

Jen's headshot1

I don't know about you but I'm starting to panic over how close the holidays are!  I have a unique way to package a small gift such as a gift card, jewelry, or other small treasure.  I had been given a few of these containers to alter and decided to try to do so with some of my favorite Faber-Castell products.

Box1You can get some of these at your local craft store or restaurant supply store. Take the handle off carefully and set aside.  Open up the container and lay flat.  They have a waxy finish so you will want to sand them well with some extra fine grit sandpaper first.

Wipe clean and prime with gel medium or simply collage decorative papers such as tissue paper, patterns, maps, book pages, sheet music, thin patterned papers, wrapping papers, etc... rip and apply with a good gel medium, like the one in the Design Memory Craft Textural Accents Sampler.  Once it is dry, flip it over and do the other side.

Box5

Now, it's time to add some Gelatos!  Color over areas (no need to be very careful or precise) and add a bit of spray water to blend and allow to drip.  Blast with a heat gun to dry.  Continue until you are satisfied with the coverage and do the same with the other side in different colors.

I used a Stamper's Big Brush Pen in Black to stamp some butterflies on the inside.  You could do this all over if desired.  I also stamped on sentiment on a tag (this on is a Thank You for my son's teacher).

I decorated the finished box with paper flowers and canvas leaves.  The flowers were made using watercolor paper colored with Gelatos, Art GRIP® Aquarelle pencils, and bubblewrap stamped using black gelatos. I punched circles using 2" and 3" circles cut into a spiral and rolled.  The canvas leaves were colored with Gelatos and cut.  All pieces were applied with a hot glue gun.

Box4This little box could be used for an occasion.  How much fun would it be to get this with a gift card in it?  The possibilities are endless for color combinations and embellishments!

Filled the sections with colors using Art GRIP® Aquarelle pencils.

Blended the colors with wet brush
When dry, I journaled on the page using PITT® artist pen
I let a little water drip down and wrote 'Favorite Season' with Art GRIP® Aquarelle pencils on the wet surface to finish the page.
Have fun!

An Art Journal page

Hi everyone, Mou Saha here with a page from my art journal creaed with Faber Castell Gelatos, Essential Tool Kit. Stamper's Big Brush pen, and Artists' PITT® pen.

I started with mixed media paper cut, folded and stitched to make booklets. I rubbed yellow, pink and orange Gelatos along the right edge of the page.

FCArtJournalPage1Step1
I used the little misting bottle from the Essential Tool Kit to spray water and let it drip.

FCArtJournalPage1Step2
Next, I inked up a stamp using the black Stamper's Big Brush Pen and stamp on the right side of the page where the Gelato had dried.

FCArtJournalPage1Step3

I added a strips of paper tape at the top left and rubbed some blue Gelatos, sprayed water and let it drip for a layered effect.

FCArtJournalPage1Step4
I stamped a butterfly using the same Stamper's Big Brush Pen and filled in with Art GRIP® Aquarelle pencils.

FCArtJournalPage1Step5

Finally, I added my journaling using a Black PITT® artist pen.

FCArtJournalPage1Step6

Hope you enjoyed and thanks for stopping by!

Day 6 card and giveaway with Brenda Pinnick!

Welcome to day 6 of my 7 day card crafting / giveaway week!

Thank you for all the thoughtful comments, it's so interesting the different points of view on the floor color choices. Each suggestion could totally work in that space - I've decided on a clean, clear apple green for my floor. Green is energetic while grounding. It also invokes creative thinking and is easy to look at for long periods of time, (think of a beautiful, rolling pasture or forest). Green is considered a neutral and it is wonderful as a stand alone hue to combined with a variety of other hues...perfect for my studio!

WINNERS -Friday's winner is Cori and yesterday's winner is Kimberlee, as chosen by random number generator. Congrats, Kimberlee and Cori, please send me an email with your mailing address! brenda@brendapinnick.com

Today's prize- Day 6 Red Ink & Aquarelles Set, Red PITT artist Pen Set, Red/Yellow Gelatos, AND, from me, you will win a set of fabric fat quarters ( 4 ) from my last collection, Couleur Vie. Even if you don't sew, these fat quarters are great for all types of crafting including scrapbooking, card crafting and more.

Tomorrow is the grand prize and it's pretty darn wonderful!!! ****** In order to be eligible to win, you must have commented on every single day, on both blogs -here and on my blog, http://brendapinnick.typepad.com

so if you haven't already done so, go leave your comments on each day's post and you might be the LUCKY WINNER!

Today's card- Purse_BP blog

Once again, I used my Piccadilly Circus stamps and Faber Castell BigBrush Markers to create this purse card. The circle is made from a piece of diecut chipboard and metallic paper, cut from my new dies for jewelry making, found here, on the Sizzix website or in various retail outlets. If you would like this pattern, just join my mailing list today and it's yours for free! I'll email it to you personally.

Thank you for your continued visits and I so look forward to the big day tomorrow!! See you then!

Today's question- Do you feel you understand color theory and all it's complexities? If no is your answer, would you be interested in taking an on-line class to learn more about color?

Technique Tuesday: Resist

Jen's Headshot3

I have a quick and fun technique to try with stamping and Gelatos!  I had the priviledge to work with Brenday Pinnick's new stamps and boy did I have fun!  I used a clear embossing powder to create a background of paisleys from her Piccadilly line.  Here stamps were crisp and have great images that can be stacked!

BrendaP_JenMatott1Having started on white background paper, I heat set the powders and allowed them to cool.  Next I added several colors of Gelatos over the entire page.  I smeared a bit with my fingers or a blending sponge right over the embossed images.

Once I finished that, I added a bit of spritzed water over a section with a large brush and further blended.  I used a soft rag or paper towel and rubbed away any color that settled on the embossing powder.  It wiped off those areas very easily.  Mostly the embossing powdered areas resisted the color and water.  I loved that I can create my own striking backgrounds in this way!  You can use any color embossing powder for different effects.
