A Chocolate and Pistachio Birdhouse

Colleen2LO

Colleen's last birdhouse is enough to make you want a snack.  She  used the Chocolate and Pistachio Gelatos to create this little gem.  Book pages were adhered to the birdhouse with Gel Medium. Colleen used her trusty paint making technique to make watercolor paint with her Gelatos by swirling them on to a palette and adding water.  She chose a Pistachio house with a Chocolate roof and doesn't it look yummy!  Circles and Stripes were painted on with the Gesso in the Textural Accents Sampler.  While wet, Colleen sprinked with glitter.  The Gesso acts as both a glue and an opaque paint.  She topped it off with some silk leaves and what else, a tiny feathered friend.

Making Stones

Hey bloggers Rita Barakat here!Me200

A while back I posted this cute little house but I want to share with you how to make "stones" out of scrap chipboard! First cut various sizes out of chipboard, round the edges. (Think river rocks!)

Then take Design Memory Craft Gelatos in black, coconut and metallic silver
and randomly draw on parts of the chipboard.
(Hint * with black, less is more!)

Mist with water and spread  the color around with your finger.

This is what they should look like when you are finished.
You can always add more color if you don't like the look.

Use a glaze on top  and set aside to dry - if the chipboard was wet when
you added the glaze it  might take a little longer to dry but it will be worth it!

And here is the finished project - polished stones!
You should try this!

More Gelatos to love!

Colleen2LO

We're back with Colleen's second birdhouse project.  This time Collen used the Blueberry and Cotton Candy Gelato colors that will be debuting at CHA in Anaheim next month.  Using a similar collage technique, Colleen cut her music sheets to size and adhered once again with the Gel Medium from the Textural Accents Sampler.  She them painted over some areas using the Glaze, also found in the Textural Accents Sampler.  This glaze will make these places shiny and will also act as a resist in the next step when she paints the birdhouse. Colleen created paints by swirling her Gelato colors on to a palette and then added water to make the paint.  Then using her 2 colors painted the birdhouse.  You can see the white of the music papers still shows through where she used the Glaze.  Silver glitter glue makes the birdhouse glisten, while a silver ribbon makes a cozy spot for the blue bird to perch.

Gelato Bird Houses......and a SNEAK PEEK at NEW Gelato colors!

After you read this post, February 1st won't come fast enough.  Afterall, that is the day that the NEW Gelatos will be shipping to stores all around the country.  Design Memory Craft is launching 10 new Gelato colors at the CHA Winter show in Anaheim later next month.  Colleen McGinty had the unique opportunity to work with the new colors before they were available.  What she created was so special, well, we just couldn't hold off showing you her projects now.  And... since she was using the 10 new colors, you get a sneak peek at those too.  All this week we will be showing you what Colleen has been crafting using the new Gelatos.

Colleen2LO

Up first are Colleen's charming birdhouses.  We'll kick it off with the Cherry Red and Butterscotch Birdhouse.  Colleen used a collage technique to apply an old calendar to the birdhouse.  She simply cut the calendar pieces to fit, then adhered them with Gel Medium found in the Textural Accents Sampler.  While the Gel Medium dried, Colleen made paint using her Gelatos.  She swirled her Cherry Red & Butterscotch Gelatos into a paint palette then added a bit of water.  She then used this paint to add color to the birdhouse.  A bit of glitter adds sparkle, a garland adds a bit of woodsy whimsy and a tiny red bird calls it home.

Happy Birthday with Art Grip Colored Pencils

106_3752

Hi! It's Jill here, sharing a card I created by coloring with Art GRIP® Colored Pencils.  I love how smooth these colors blend giving you the look of marker with the control of colored pencils.  Here are the layers I applied to achieve this look using red, yellow, and orange pencils and varying amounts of pressure when coloring:

Easy technique with Art GRIP® Aquarelle pencils

Hi there everyone, Mou Saha here with today's post.Back in October, when I went to teach at Oh My Crafts' Discovering Possibilities event, many of the students wanted to know how to use the Art GRIP® Aquarelle watercolor pencils. So, I have been experimenting with these pencils. Let me share with you one of the simple things I learned.
Usually, I associate palette knives with oil and acrylic paints, but I found that they work great with watercolors too.
First I colored on my art journal page with several shades of the same color.

Watercolor1
Then spritzed it with water lightly. I blended the colors and moved them around with a few quick strokes of the palette knife.

Once the backgrounds dried, I wrote on them, stamped and embellished them.

Quick Card Inspiration

Need a quick and easy card for the holidays?  Mou Saha has got your inspiration!  Mou created this card using Art GRIP® aquarelle pencils to add color to the background and ornaments.  You can cut out your ornaments by had for a fun free form shape, or use your die cutter of you want something a bit more crisp and polished.  Add your ornaments using Helmar 3D Scrap Dots and 3D Zap Dots.  Mou then layered her card onto some craft paper and did a quick sew around the edges and to add the strings for the ornaments.  Quick, easy and best of all made by YOU!

Creativity Week Bonus Post!

Well, since it is Creativity Week it seems like there's no better time than the present for a extra post for the day.  We've been talking about holiday crafts this week and the holidays are often great inspiration for scrapbooking.  Rita Barakat created these 2 layouts using Design Memory Craft Mix & Match Gelatos and Helmar Zapdots and 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.  Rita used the Gelatos to add color to her chipboard pieces.  The Gelatos cover chipboard really well and the color stays nice and bright.  Of course if you need a more subtle look for your projects, the Gelatos can be easily blended with water or your fingertip to create a gentle wash of color.  Zapdots and 450 Quick Dry Adhesive are great for affixing chipboard and heavier embellishments like the flowers, buttons and ribbons Rita added to her pages.

Dreaming of a White Christmas?

If you’re like Rita Barakat and you live where there’s not much snow falling this time of year, you don’t have to just dream about a White Christmas.  You can make one!  Rita built this cozy house complete with a snow kissed tree.  Using Helmar’s  450 Quick Dry Helmar Adhesive she was able to adhere her snow to the tree, yard and roof and hold the house securely together.

Cards that POP!

Need some inspiration for your holiday cards?  Jill Foster created these bright and vibrant cards using Art GRIP color pencils.  She stamped the houses and colored them in using the soft as butter and totally blendable Art GRIP color pencils.  Then she added those adorable tags.  She made them POP using Zapdots.  Oh how we love Zapdots…..

Houses
Another thing we love, Gelatos!  Who doesn’t?  Gelatos are creamy sticks of pigment that glide on like lipstick.  You can blend, smear and smudge them to get just the right effect.  Or, if you want something more subtle, blend them with water.  Jill Foster created this lovely canvas that anyone would just love to find under their tree.  Jill used the Gelatos to create her background and added the vibrant red to the chipboard birds which she affixed with, you  guessed it, Zapdots!

A canvas
Hope you enjoy today's projects.  We'll see you back here tomorrow for some more creative fun!  Meanwhile, take a peek at what the Helmar team has been up to!

Gelato Background

Hi everyone! Jill here sharing a card created using Gelatos and Art GRIP® Colored Pencils.

106_3720
Begin by coloring with various colors of Gelatos onto a smooth hard surface.  (I used a piece of plastic.)  Next, spray the surface with several mists of water.  Dip white cardstock into mixture, repeating until you get a look you like.  Allow to dry (you can speed up the process with a heat gun).  Darken corners by coloring directly onto paper with Gelato and rub with fingertip to blend.  Stamp onto background and lightly color images with Art GRIP ® Colored Pencils.  Finally, add script and flourish by coloring onto stamp with Big Brush Markers.  (All stamps by Penny Black.)

Thanks for visiting- happy stamping!

Doodling...

Hey bloggers!
Me200
Rita  Barakat here with a reminder of what you can do with your PITT® artist pens and Pastel Pencils!
Over the summer I took these pictures and there were even more that I didn't use!
This is a great way to get lots of pictures on a page but with all those pictures,
I wanted to make sure I left some white space too.
Well I just couldn't do it and I went back and added some journaling and accents!
I used the PITT® artist pens for journaling and accenting around the embellishments!
 I
I also enjoyed using my Pastel Pencils and PITT® artist pens to enhance the journaling.
It kind of reminded me of high school & college
where I doodled all the time to stay awake in class! LOL!
If you haven't done this in a while you should try it!
Supplies: Clear Embellishments from Clear Scraps.
