Hi Everyone! It's Allison here, though most people call me, Ally <waving>! I am not the "typical" scrapbooker. I'm a single mom of two kiddos who are now actually young adults 22 and 19. By day I work as a policy specialist around early childhood special education issues, but by night I'm an avid crafter. I'm delighted to be a Pocket Chick with Fancy Pants Designs and to have the opportunity to introduce myself to you all.
Q: What is your favorite Fancy Pants product?
A: My favorite product that I've had a chance to play with and use has to be the die cut felt. I love anything with texture and that fits the bill. But I WANT to play with the flocked transparency in a BAD way. I just haven't found the right layout yet... but just wait!
Q: What is your favorite technique?
A: Usually, it's the one I've just learned! I love learning how to re-purpose any and all of my supplies from inks to paints and scraps to punches.
Q: How long have you been scrapbooking?
A: I have a scrapbook that I made of a road trip my parents and I took up the coast of California when I was 12. It has photos, thoughts and lots of ephemera. So, if you say that's when I started that was 3....er .... a long time ago ;-)
Q: What kind of scrapper would you consider yourself to be?
A: Typically, I'd say I'm a clean and graphic scrapbooker, but since I'm always challenging myself to try new techniques and designs, it's sometimes tough to pinpoint a single style. The one thing that I always try to emphasize though, regardless of style is that the focus remain on the photos.
Q: What are some goals you have for yourself, scrap-related or personal?
A: Totally non-scrap related, but I plan to attain my doctorate some time within the next 8 years. As for scrap-related goals, I've hit most of those. I even had a layout on a magazine cover which felt like the best scrappy accomplishment ever!
Q: Where do you find inspiration?
A: I know it's cliche, but everywhere. I see billboards with catch phrases or fashion catalogs or building architecture that sometimes just hit me with an idea.
Q: What is the most unique topic/photos that you have scrapbooked?
A: No topic is really off-limits for me. I enjoy documenting every aspect of life from the exciting to the mundane. But I'd say that the most unique topic I scrapbooked was the Jewish tradition of placing stones on the graves of loved ones who have passed away. I really like documenting family history in a way that shows meaning and depth.
Q: If someone was to walk into your scrap room/area right now, what would they find?
A: A half packed tote for the crop I was going to attend, but was cancelled.
My most recently completed layout put in its album and open to the page on the table.
All the scraps from that last page strewn about my craft table.
A half-finished sewing project.
Lots of hobby store ads with the latest coupons waiting to be used.
Q: What do you listen to or watch while scrapbooking?
A: Occasionally, I'll just shuffle my iTunes catalog. But more often than not, I'm scrapping in silence. I love the quiet of the house - lets me just concentrate and become completely engrossed in the creative thought process.
Q: What time of day do you usually scrapbook and where?
A: I tend to scrap in the early morning when I am most awake. I normally get up at 4:30 am, so I naturally awake fairly early on other days as well. Once I've had my second cup of coffee, I'm ready and rarin' to go.
Q: What type of camera do you use?
A: I recently upgraded to a Canon 50D and couldn't be happier. I love my camera - so much that I'm even known as the "staff photographer" at work.
Q: What are some other hobbies you enjoy?
A: Well, I bought a sewing machine a year ago and I've been teaching myself to sew. So far I've made a pillow and a camera strap. It's definitely more a hobby out of wanting things (like a fun, individualized camera strap) than a passion. But who knows? :)
