"When I saw all the colorful papers from the Margarita line it was love at first sight. It breathes summer. Thinking of summer I also think of flowers, butterflies, and birdhouses. So using those fierce papers and a mini canvas (2 3/4" square) I created this cute mini wall hanging.
Step 1: Make a background. I inked up my canvas using my Aqua Pigment ink. I just love how bright the colors are. The woodgrain stamp from The Campy Trails collection is just the right size and covers the canvas perfectly
Step 2: Time to start playing with paper while the ink dries. I cut a strip measuring 1 1/4 x 3 1/4", scoring at 1/2 and 2 3/4. The birds need a door so I punched a small hole in the middle of my paper strip. Then I shaped my strip, making a rounded little house; the back flaps are barely overlapping.
Step 3: Make the bottom piece. We can't have those birds falling out of their house can we?! I used the first house piece as a template, tracing around it, and making a few flaps. I used a strong adhesive to fasten the flaps to the inside of the house.
Step 4: Every house needs a roof! I punched out a scalloped circle (2 3/4") from a gorgeous Pow! paper. Find the exact middle and cut away 1/3 of the circle. Glue the ends together, making a rounded shape.
Step 5: Adhere ribbon along the bottom edge as a cute trim. Finish the house by adding the roof. To get it to fit as I wanted I had to adhere it using dimensional dots. Step 6: I just love cutting out details from patterned paper and the Margarita papers are filled with cute details. Some fun circles, pretty flowers, and beautiful butterflies were cut out. Then I layered them on my canvas background.
Step 7: Finishing touches. Give those flowers a little crinkle to add some dimension. Glue down your birdhouse and voila: you've got your own super cute mini canvas with a summer-feeling to it!
What a cute little piece of bright, happy, and fun home decor! Thanks for the step-by-step tutorial Mahlin!
