Fancy This: Altered Clipboard

SuzanneSergi_FancyPants_BeYou_1a

Hello, Fancy Pants Fans!
The inspiration for the above project came from my oldest daughter, Gabi. I was in her room, putting away laundry, and noticed the 12x12 Subway Art piece of paper on her desk. I was curious to know why she had it, and she simply replied that she wanted to hang it in her room. She loved all the subway words, and the colors were a perfect match for the decor in her room. Luckily, her Mom is a scrapbooker, so, I decided to help her out, by revisiting a 12x12 clipboard that has also been sitting on her desk. With the clipboard, and the paper as the main supplies, I set out to create something that would make her happy, each time she saw the altered clipboard. I did not want to cover too many of the words, because that is what makes this paper special. However, I knew, I needed to include a photo of her. A visual reminder as well.

So for this project you will need the following:

Let us get started:

First, I stamped a heart border along the bottom of the clipboard using the 2x2 I love you stamp. I used black stazon, and was not trying achieve a perfect inked border. Later, I will brush it lightly with a sanding block to achieve faint lines, and only  about a 1/2 inch will be seen at the bottom.

Next, I pulled another 2x2 stamp, Be You. However, this time I decided to use the transparency that comes in the package. Using a circle cutter, I cut the printed words into a small circle. Later, I will use this as an accent on my photo.

I used the Daylight 12x12 paper from the Be You collection. My photo is 3x5, and I cut two pieces of paper to 31/4 x51/4 to layer underneath the photo. I did add texture to one of them, by using my Cuttlebug.

I will admit, I have used this collection in its entirety! Love the papers, and this is one time I decided not to hold onto my "favorites." I used the Nesting paper to cut out two scallop borders. I used the top of the paper, and will save the remaining part for another project.

I wanted to create a few button embellishments throughout the clipboard. I decided to dress them up by using the Be You rubons. I cut the rectangle doily pattern from the sheet, and lightly adhered this directly on top of each of the buttons above. A quick way to add a decorative touch to buttons. I did turn them over, so I was adhering the rubon to the flat side of the button.

Next, I cut out two butterflies using my Cricut diecutting machine. One from grey paper, and the other from vellum. I love texture on my projects, and you probably know by now, the Cuttlebug is my best friend! Using two embossing folders, I ran each butterfly through them to achieve

Here are few of the details of the altered clipboard.

You can see the butterfly layered together with all the components above. I added two stick pins for the top of the butterfly, and loosely tied black twine around one of them.

You can see how I layered the pattern papers underneath the picture of my daughter. I did tuck in small heart cut from vellum. I also ran it through my sewing machine just to add a bit more detail. I layered the circle transparency on top of a scallop circle that was also embossed.

The final finishing detail to the board was using this beautiful stripe ribbon, also found in the collection. Trust me, I did not want to use it, but knew it was perfect to tie at the top. I pulled out my Fancy frames to embellish the center of the bow. I cut out a 1" square from cardstock to sit inside the bracket metal frame. I used the BE YOU rubon from the rubon sheet to adhere onto the cardstock. It was the perfect fit.

I hope you have enjoyed the project above. The 12x12 Subway Paper is perfect on its own, or in a black frame. In fact, I purchase one last sheet to do this, as well. I am going to sit it on the kitchen counter, so we are reminded everyday of the inspiring words, to simply BE YOU!
