Fall ... it's such a beautiful time of year isn't it? I have always loved this time of year. I thought it was a great time to create a project with the Summer's End line. Temperatures have really dropped here the past couple of weeks. Enough so that I made a pot of chili the other night. (Empting a few more jars of my canned garden tomatoes). The next morning when I pulled those clean sparkling quart canning jars out of the dishwasher ... an idea popped into my head. What pretty luminaries they would make, hanging in a tree by the deck. So I got started.
 
If you'd like to make some, here is what you'll need.

Summer's End: Flocked Transparency (or from any matching Fancy Pants Designs line)
Summer's End: Chipboard Banners
Summer's End: Filter Embellishment
Summer's End: Buttons
 
Other supplies:
Canning Jars ( quart or pint) I used quart
Wire
hot glue or other quick dry adhesive
Wire cutter
battery operated tea lights
 
Instructions:
1. You'll want to start by cutting two pieces of wire the same length. The length you cut will vary depending on how long you want the wire handle to be, but I made my pieces approximately 24 inches long, and that gave me more than enough to work with. Once you have them cut, you will put one on either side of your jar (making sure that before you connect them and twist them tight, that you have them under the bottom lip of the jar... where the lid would screw on). You can have one of the lengths of wire on each side, left much shorter than the other, as it will just be cut and curled a bit. Twist the wires tightly where they meet on two side of the jar.



 
2. Now you can cut the shorter piece of wire on each side, to about 4 inches. To curl it, wrap it around a pencil, then just pull the pencil out.


 
3. After you have both sides curled, pull the two long wires you will be hanging your jar from, straight up to meet above the jar ( to the length you desire), then twist them together to hold tightly.


 
4. Now ... it's time to have fun assembling your tissue flowers and add buttons to the centers. (I use hot glue to assemble these).


 
5. Before adding your flowers to the jars, measure and cut pieces of flocked transparency to line the inside of your jar. Drop the cut transparency into the jar, with the flocking facing out ward, to you see it when you look at the outside of the jar. You dont have to be concerned with the transparency overlapping itself. Much better that it over lap a bit then to be to short. Once you cut it and drop it into the jar, it will naturally stay against the edges of the jar, so no adhesive is even necessary. Once you have at finished you can add your flowers to your jar, and add the banner pieces below them.


 
6. Now all that is left to do is add the light to the inside of the jar, hang them and enjoy!
