DSD CreativeTeam Challenge: Journaling

Hello there. Happy Digital Scrapbooking Day! Kimberly Kalil here and I’m so excited to share a fun little challenge with you.

One of my favorite parts of scrapbooking is journaling. Basically, I scrap so I can journal. I have a degree in journalism and have spent more than a 15 years working at newspaper. Writing is my thing! But every now and then, I get stuck and need a little help. When that happens, I often Google things like “journaling prompts” to kick start my creative process.

So if you haven’t figured it out yet, my challenge is a journaling one. Finish the sentence “I’m most thankful for … “
Once you have something in mind, create a scrapbook page based on your response. You can use the prompt as your title. Or, you can start each sentence with the prompt and repeat it throughout your journaling. Lots of times I repeat a single phrase, multiple times to build a meaningful journaling block. I often use phrases such as:

I want …
I need …
I hope …
I always want to remember …
I love you because …
I’m thankful for …

Repetition is such a fabulous and powerful writing tool and makes journaling that much easier. Next time you get stuck, try it.
For this challenge and the page I created, I used the overall theme of gratitude in my journaling, listing all the things I’m thankful for (I started each sentence with “I’m thankful for…). I included silly things, right alongside serious things, because that’s “real” and I want to tell the whole, real story of my life. When I got to the end, I named the one thing I’m most thankful for and used a photo that represented that particular blessing.

Here's the page I created:

My journaling reads:

There are a lot of things I am thankful for this year. I'm thankful for a good job in a crappy economy. I'm thankful for two bright and extremely happy children. I'm thankful I’m able to indulge in large quantities of rocky road ice cream. I'm thankful for fun, memorable trips to lots of cool places. I’m thankful for a rock solid family. I’m thankful for a super hardworking and funny husband who tries hard to make my life better and easier. I'm thankful for jeggings, because they are just so plain comfy. I'm thankful for an army of friends who love and get me. I’m thankful for excellent insurance and great doctors. I'm thankful for a house manager who happily does laundry, cleans our messes and generally loves and takes care of us. I'm thankful to live close to grandparents who adore my kiddos. But this year, I'm most thankful for my health. Two tumors, one the size of a small orange, can make that happen. One, totally uncomplicated surgery only increased the amount of gratitude I felt. Said tumors being benign makes me more than thankful, it makes me the luckiest girl in the world. I am so very thankful. And I'll be feeling this way for a long time.

Now … ready, set, scrap. A $5 gift certificate to the Two Peas store is up for grabs for one lucky winner! Have fun and don't forget to check the challenge box to link your layout in the gallery to the challenge.
