Things are getting a little squirrelly...

A couple of days ago, I hung out a piece of dried bread, spread with peanut butter and with some seeds pressed into it as a homemade bird treat. I purposely hung it on a smallish tree, with thin bendy branches, with the thought that the birds could get to it, but the squirrels wouldn't be able to.

What I didn't take into account was the relentless rain that started, shortly after I hung it out and softened the bread to the point that the string holding it tore right through the bread and the whole piece ended up on the ground.  For the next couple of hours I kept glancing out as I went about my household chores wondering how long it would take for some creature to notice it.

Sure enough on one of those glances I saw that a small 'black' squirrel had found the peanut butter bonanza and was chowing down;

He sat there for a while snacking away then finally grabbed what was left of the treat in his mouth and took off with it.

Later I saw the same guy pause in his run across the back fence and grab a mouthful of fresh snow. Maybe the peanut butter made him thirsty?

Then one of the lighter, grey squirrels, that are around here too, chased him along the fence. The grey one looks bigger and plumper to me, so maybe he didn't need the extra food bonus as much as the smaller black one did.

Great captures of the squirrels! I enjoyed the story too. The first one is my favorite.

Both squirrels are looking pretty healthy for this time of year. Fun story and images.
