We are pleased to have the pleasure of hearing from Kelly Marie Alvarez of Lawn Fawn and sharing with you the story behind their newest products. She is as delightful as the smiling faces on her stamps!
What are your upcoming collections? We have two new collections, Into the Woods and Peace Joy Love. We also have 14 new stamp sets and 12 new die sets!
What was the inspiration behind them? Where do you look for inspiration?
We absolutely love the outdoors and, of course, critters, so Into the Woods just sort of naturally happened! We knew we wanted a collection that was gender neutral and gave off that warmth of the Autumn season. We also wanted something that would make people smile!
For our Winter collection, we were inspired by the chalkboard trend. We really wanted to do it in the Lawn Fawn style! We thought that charcoal color was a great addition to the traditional colors of Christmas!
Once you have a concept for a collection, what is the design process like?
We have a secret Pinterest board where we collect ideas and concepts. From there we are able to narrow down all of our ideas until we find one that we think will work well. Once all of the patterns are drawn, we play with scale and color. It is a lot of fun!
How do you decide on the name for a line? How do you name the papers?
Erica and I have way too much fun naming our paper lines and stamp sets. In this case, we thought Into the Woods would be cute since there is a musical with the same name. We met doing musicals, so it was a perfect choice! We thought that Peace Joy Love really encapsulated the feelings of the Winter season, so it seemed perfect!
When we name individual papers, we always try to start with a theme. For Into the Woods we decided on tree names, and for Peace Joy Love we picked people's names that sounded like holiday themes, for example, Gloria, Rudolph, Klaus, and Holly!
What is the most rewarding part of developing a collection? What is the most challenging?
The most rewarding part, hands down, is seeing everyone create with it. Every morning feels like Christmas morning as we see tweets and blog posts of people creating with our paper and stamps. We just love it!
The most challenging part is narrowing everything down. It is so hard to make cuts on stamps or pattern ideas. We always have a tough time with that!
What is your favorite piece from your new release? This is such a hard question! I really love our new Lawn Ornaments flair and sequins, but, I have to say, that the Yeti, Set, Go stamp set has a very special place in my heart. I just love yetis! :)
Thanks so much for sharing with us, Kelly! You can check out more from Lawn Fawn on their blog, and browse our selection of their papers, stamps, dies and more from here.
