Sorry I missed posting yesterday. When I woke up yesterday I had every intention of getting a POTD up for the day but, an unscheduled run to the vet, with one of the cats who came home a little the worse for her meeting with something, apparently bigger than her and hostile, put everything behind schedule. After a few stiches in her neck, some topical antibiotic on her ear and a package of antibiotic pills to be administered over the next few days she seems to be doing okay and was of course clamoring to get out of the house again first thing this AM.
In any case here are the pictures I meant to post yesterday plus one more I finished up just this morning. All from another trip to my local park pond. I really need to get a little farther afield but time constraints seem to be keeping me close to home these days.
This blue heron seems to have taken up residence at the pond this summer. I've only ever seen the one here and he is much more wary of people than the multitudes of ducks and geese are, so it's more difficult to get a decent shot of him. He is a lot of fun to watch if you have patience, as he will stand still for a very long time and when he finally does decide to move does so in a slow and oddly jerky way. Frighten him however and he takes to the wing in a fast and fluid motion.
I have so many duck pictures that I hesitate to take more but this little one was so outgoing and kept coming right up to me so in the end I had to give her her portrait ( maybe some people feed the ducks here which might account for her friendliness, but if so she was disappointed in me).
I just liked the way the the light coming from the side illuminated this girl and the water around her.
The geese are quite self assured and tend to hold their ground with a haughty stare. One step closer elicited a hiss from this one.
