5 Designer Tips with Jess

It's Project life day here at Fancy Pants Designs but this is what I call Project Life for the non-Project Lifer.  Even if you don't want to commit to this style of scrapbooking it's fun to take the elements of this type of design and apply it to our pages.  So while I am not ready to fully take the plunge I do like to dabble!

As you can see I used the familiar layout of Project Life: rectangles of 3x4 and 4x6.

Here are my tips for modifying the Project Life style to fit a regular layout:

1. Don't worry about the page protectors.  If you know you won't need a ton of them don't buy them!  You could sew your own pockets from 12x12 protectors or just do what I've done and leave a small border of white background around your rectangles.

2. Furthermore, you don't need "official" PL products!  Everything I used here is from Fancy Pants Designs' regular Collecting Moments line.  In fact, it makes choosing products ultra simple.

3. Repeat motifs or embellishments to tie your page together.  Clearly using one collection means that the colors and patterns will coordinate but I also repeated patterns and colors and strategically arranged them for balance.  I also repeated elements like the pie chart circle.

4. Use quotes, ephemera, or other creative elements to fill in the spaces where you don't have pictures.  Some of my rectangles have fun pieces of the Collecting Moments ephemera pack or stickers.  I even used a small coordinating envelope to hide more journaling.

5. Project Life usually has a lot of journaling.  I used my spread as a traditional one-event spread so I didn't have too much to say about each photo.  But I made sure to include an area with journaling strips and another rectangle with die cuts to date the page.

If you've looked at PL in the past and though it looked great but wasn't for you this is a great way to dip your toe in.  It's really pretty simple to grab your favorite products and draw from the PL style to make something that will seamlessly blend with the rest of your album.
